ITunes does not recognize iPod but computer does

I just bought an iPod and I can't get the iTunes to recognize the iPod, however, it appears in windows. When I open iTunes it says that I need to download the updater but I have already done that. I've read the support pages apple had provided and have done everything they have said to do but it still does not work.
I bought one a week before this and it worked but the battery did not last so I traded it in for this one. So I know my computer and iTunes is capable of working, just not the iPod.
If anyone has any reasons for this, please let me know. I would appreciate it greatly.

  • Itunes won't recognize ipod, but computer will

my ipod recently crashed, and I lost all my songs. At first, whenever I plugged it in, it would be super slow, and it would show up on the computer as this white thing, i'm not sure what it is, but not the ipod icon. Now, after I set my ipod on disk mode, it shows up on the computer as my ipod, but still it does not appear under the devices in itunes. Usually, when you plug in an ipod, itunes automatically comes up, but it took a really long time for it finally to appear.
    Any ideas?
    help would be greatly appreciated!

  • Itunes doesn't recognize ipod, but desktop does

When I plug my 5th generation iPod into my MacBook, the desktop recognizes it, but iTunes doesn't and then iTunes freezes and I have to force-quit it. What is wrong?

You cannot sync music from an iPhone to a computer. It does not support disk mode, as other iPods do. If the music is purchased you can connect the iPhone to iTunes and choose "Transfer Purchases" from the File menu.

  • ITunes won't recognize iPod but Windows does.

At first neither Windows nor iTunes recognized my iPod mini. I reinstalled my driver and Windows can now recognize the iPod but iTunes won't. When I connect the iPod the "do not disconnect" message stays on my screen but nothing happens in iTunes. Can anyone help me?

  • Windows and iTunes do not recognize iPod

Help! I have read everything in this forum and have not found the solution yet. I have the 30gb ipod video and I've had it for almost a month now and it doesnt work. I've tried the 5r's.. didnt do anything.. when i connect it to my laptop, it says its charging.. it also tells me that it would work better with a 2.0 usb, but according to the specs, it should still work with the 1.1 usb. Also, when i look at it in the device manager, it says "Location: Location 0 (iPod)" and "The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28) To reinstall the drivers for this device, click Reinstall Driver." but when i try to reinstall them from the cd, it says they're not there.. i'm not the only one having this problem.. from all the posts.. is it possible its the cable? I dont have another computer to try it on.. HELP!

    Frustrated Mom,
I am having the exact same issue. It all worked fine
yesterday (the first day I used it) and now today
there is no recognition on either
    computers...anywhere. I called the Apple S.O.S. line
and they took me through all of the possible fixes.
Nothing worked. In the end, they suggested that the
iPod is faulty and I should send it in to have it
repaired. I just got it yesterday so I will be
calling MacMall back for an exchange, otherwise I
just paid full price for a refurbished item. Not
    cool.
    Good Luck,

I had similar problems with my office Dell (Windows XP). My 60GB Video iPod works fine at home with my ibook, but when I first used with iTunes on this Dell I could only get it to intermitently recognize the ipod the first day. The next day the PC would recognize it was in the USB in that it showed up in the lower bar of devices to remove, and it would run the ipod service program and then start itunes (still does this) but it would not show up in itunes any longer or as a drive any longer in Mycomputer. On the other hand in an identical Dell in office nex to mine I was able to use it fine the last 3 days when it no longer worked on my office Dell.
After some experimentation the fact that the iPod service runs when I put my iPod into the USB port and then runs iTunes shows the PC sees it. And I can eject it via the device eject icon on bar at screen bottom. I determined the reason the Dell in other office sees it while the one in my office no longer sees it in iTunes is likely due to the fact that I do not have administrative access to my PC and iTunes is not installed as my default application. The Dell next door has iTunes installed as default application for music and thus I have no problems.
It shows my iPod is ok but the PCs (not my ibook) vary in response due to minor differences (such as not being default application for music in my case --at least that appears to be cause which I will test later when I get my itunes set as default application). You may want to look at issues with iTunes rather than the iPod being faulty?

  • Itunes will not recognize Ipod Touch

Ok, so I tried to install Itunes 8 when it first released the other day. I received the BSOD, I ended up reverting back to the last known working configuration for windows. So back to Itunes 7.7.1 or whatever. Plugged my Touch in, and it would not recognize at all. I checked in the hardware config and it seemed that the drivers were not installed for the Ipod. I found out about the HP printer fix, and unplugged my HP printer. I installed Itunes 8, works fine now.
BUT, I plugged my Ipod Touch in, and I get a new hardware wizard, installs the drivers, and asks what I want to do with it, pull pictures off? It's acting like an external drive. Itunes won't recognize it though, no beeps stating it was connected, just won't recognize it is there.
Is there anything I can do to fix this?

The first five of those I actually tried. I should check the services menu, and I uninstalled Itunes, but did not restart afterwards. So when I reinstalled, everything was still there. I will try doing that tonight after work.

  • HT1459 iTunes will not recognize iPod for syncing, downloading versions, etc?

I am attempting to connect/sync/download latest version of iTunes to my brand new iPod Touch, 4th generation.  Nothing happens.  It says I need to have 10.6.3 version or higher, but when I attempt to download to the iPod, it only downloads to my computer.  I am connected via the USB cable, not via WiFi.

Well, it looks like the iPod will need to come back to factory settings none the less. Try doing this:
First, show "Hidden Files and Folders" (Open my computer, click on "Tools" then Folder options, click on the view tab, put the dot next to show hidden files and folders and apply, ok)
Then, Terminate ipodservice.exe and ituneshelper.exe (This is assuming iTunes launches)
Connect the ipod, wait for it to show in My Computer.
Double click on it and you will find an ipod control folder in here - Drag and drop this to the recycle bin, close and open iTunes....Let's see if the ipod will be recognized allowing you to restore it.

  • ITunes not recognizing iPod, but computer does

I have an older iPod touch (model MC008LL) and I just updated iTunes to 11.1.4 (I'm running Windows 8).Whatever version I was using before (I don't remember what it was) had no issues with my iPod at all. After I did this last update, my iPod shows up on my computer, iTunes refuses to acknowledge it being there (which is rude if you ask me). I've unplugged it and plugged it back in and browsed the internet and have come up with nothing.
I just got a bunch of new music and would like to sync it across. Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi Christopher
To get iTunes to recognise your mini, try resetting while it is connected to your computer (hold menu and select until the Apple logo appears)

  • ITunes will not recognize IPod Or Nano

Help - i have spent the entire day reading and trying different options to no avail.
I have a Dell Latitude D620 Microsft XP. I have not synced to my nano in 2 months. Just purchsed an IPod Classic for my girlfriend.
I connected the nano to the computer. ITunes comes up as it should, but does not show the device. Windows does recognize it.
    Ipod - samething.
I can not get Itunes to show the devices so that I can sync.
I have tried uninstalling and installing ITunes several times.
I give up and I am at the point of returning the IPod.

Kristine, thanks for the suggestion. I have tried that already, to no avail, and have also reinstalled iTunes and trashed the AppleMobileDeviceHelper files per the instructions..
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1747,
also without result. Glad that you were able to resolve your trouble with a hard reboot, thanks again for the suggestions.
