ITunes doesn't allow transfer of playlists or songs to ATV 1G

I've been trying to upload a few playlists from my Mac Mini to my ATV 1G but it seem impossible. Opening iTunes and clicking on Devices > Apple TV brings up a screen that shows Settings and Photos at the top. There is no access to Music like there once was. The Settings show simply device info (name, cap'y, software version and s/n. There are no user-changeable settings. Clicking the Photos tab provides an easy means of transferring photos.
The Help (for G1) states that to sync my ATV with iTunes, to go to Prefs > Apple TV... but in my prefs there is NO ATV tab to select! I've checked ever menu bar and item and have found absolutely nothing relating to syncing iTunes songs with the ATV.
Now strangely enough, I can select the ATV as an output device from the selection dropdown in the lower right corner of iTunes, and I can play songs that way.
So what in heck gives here?
My itunes version is 10.1.1 (and this is not a new problem).

Hi, and thanks for pointing me to that thread. I had already seen it in my forum search and it doesn't work for me. Here's why:

Well, I'm running ATV software version 3.0.2 and under General there is no Computers tab to click on! All that's under General are About, Network, iTunes Store, parental Controls, Remotes, Update Software, Languages, Legal, Reset Settings. I checked each of these options and nowhere is there a way to obtain those numbers to input into iTunes.

I had a problem getting any calendar events after a hd failure and reinstall. Someone here told me to try this and it worked!
1. Launch iTunes - Preferences - Devices - Reset Sync History - Confirm - Give it 1 min. You may or may not see a progress bar. Ensure Outlook is closed when you do this.
*Now go ahead and sync Outlook Calenders to iPod
2. Attempt to try and sync using the different USB Ports in the system and see weather or not syncing takes a bit longer and actually copies information over
3. If you are able to Restore the iPod as a new iPod so it has a fresh info.. And sync everything to it like it is the first time.

When I've had a similar problem, it was because I was accessing the iTunes store from a device I hadn't used before, such as when I upgraded from an iPad 1 to the iPad 2. It was a little confusing to me until I figured it out.
All I had to do was use the ID of my existing account and play along with the iTunes store. As I recall, it asked for my password twice, and the security code from the back of my credit card. After that, downloads proceeded as before.

Copy everything from your backup copy of your computer.
If for some reason you have failed to maintain a backup copy, not good, then you can transfer itunes purchases from an ipod. Without syncing: File>Transfer Purchases

Just a few questions first. When did the problem begin & did you install/change anything at that time? Are the songs greyed out and do they play okay?

Hi. I have realized, that my iTunes doesn't introduce the music I select into my iPhone5. Kind of weird. If I choose just a few songs (5,10) they go in. But if I select a vast amount of them (400+) they just stay with this sign and sometimes with grey color or sometimes and unselectable, or also sometimes just with this sing but selectable. (With selectable I mean I can use it and play it)
I have tried everything. First I thought it was a mess with the enough space, but it isn't. I restart counters but doesn't work. I've updated iTunes, and iPhone (7.1.1) but neither is.

ITunes 9 not allowing most smart playlists to automatically sync with iPod

Oh dearie me. This is another major blunder for iTunes 9 - which I cannot see anyone else has noticed yet (but sorry if I couldn't find an existing related post).
Since upgrading to iTunes 9- almost all of my smart playlists (whick worked perfectly before) have disappeared from my iPod. They have also removed themselves from the list in iTunes where I choose which playlists to sync. Yes- I use the 'sync only checked songs & playlists' option (but please don't suggest I manually manage music, as I've been there before).
The problem seems to happen when a smart playlist references 2 or more other (smart or normal) playlists in iTunes. This excludes about 95% of my playlists from syncing in iTunes 9.
Before the upgrade I noticed that iTunes posted an exclamation mark next to any playlist on my iPod that had a rule referencing a playlist in iTunes- but they still sunc perfectly for years. I mean if Apple allowed us to make our own smart playlists only for the iPod- then I would understand- but its the only way I can see to have a playlist for example that plays all favourite but not recently played dance music (regardles of actual genre); nor anything I have moved to a manual playlist called 'not for syncing'.
As a test, I tried an experiment with a new smart playlist which said so long as the song appears in (all) 2 smart playlists- to see when it would become 'syncable'. As would be expected- it was not available to sync. As soon as I deleted the 2nd playlist rule- ie it only had to be in 1 playlist, it became 'syncable'. As soon as I added a 2nd rule again- be it a smart or normal playlist- it became 'unsyncable' again (disappeared from the sync list).
Apple please fix this ASAP. I cannot see this as being desirable behavior in any way, shape or form.
And while you are at it with the new improvements with iTunes 9 playlisting- please add an option to exclude certain 'match' parameters- eg match x and y, but exclude anything that matches z. Besides allowing for much better playlisting, that would (to a degree) also provide a workable workaround to the problem above.

Cheers for chiming in- but I don't think that will solve this problem. I have no podcasts on my iPod- only mp3s. My problem is I have way too much music in my library- over 300GB. So I have all my iTunes smart playlists- eg genre Dubstep- but then I have an iPod version of each of these eg Dubstep iPod- which says match both criteria- playlist is Dubstep, & playlist is not 'Master not sync'. Every smart playlist on my iPod revolves around this playlist- whose rules are if any of the following 2 criteria match: rating is not between 1&2 stars; playlist is not the normal manual playlist called 'not for iPod sync'- where I drop any mp3s that I don't need on my iPod. This scheme worked perfectly before.
But I am gonna chew on what you said today- maybe there is a clue in there or maybe if I experiment with the 'music' rule. Either way- this is not an improvement- it's about 200 steps back. I still maintain that the problem I am seeing is not intentional coding. Something broke in the codebase & now iTunes 9 has playlist / syncing bugs which need fixing.
Either that, or Apple need to finally release a 500GB iPod- so I can get rid of my iPod specific playlists & sync all my iTunes playlists. Then I would even consider putting podcasts on there as well...;) Heck maybe even some video... crazy idea, I know.

Ipad apps doesn't allow transfer purchases

Apps purchased on my iPad does not want to transfer the purchases it claims that the computer is not authorized, which is false since i authorized this computer already, and when I re-authorize it says that this computer is already authorized.
My first computer transferred all apps correctly but this is my 2'nd computer (out of the allowed 5) and it doesn't transfer the apps.

I would suggest that you select less items to sync onto your device. The bar at the bottom of iTunes when your iPhone is plugged in shows you how much space will be left on your phone AFTER the next sync, which is why it is not allowing you to sync:

ITunes doesn't play the whole playlist?

After the last update of iTunes, I luckily didn't lost any music.
But I can't play a playlist anymore by just clicking on a song and just let it shuffle.
Everytime a song ends I have to click on the next one to play it.
Is that just a option or is it a update fault?

You've probably managed to uncheck all the songs. Control-click on an empty checkbox. If you don't have checkboxes enable via preferences or press Control-A to select all songs, then right-click and use the Check Selection option.

I have an itunes acct. on my PC, but itunes doesn't allow me on using that acct. info. When I try to set up a new id on my ipad it says the session has timed out.

I have an itunes account on my PC and have downloaded Kindle and iBook with no problem, but when I try and use that acct id on my iPad the system says I cannot access the store. However, when I try to create a new id the system comes up and tells me that I am from Canada, which is always nice to know in case I ever forget, and when I acknowledge that screen, it immediately tells me the session has timed out. What am I doing wrong? Willingly admit I am not at all knowledgable in the Apple world. Thanks for any help you can give..

Hi, I just installed the new Itunes on both my mac and Pc. In the Mac i have no problems yet, but in my PC (windows Vista) I can´t see the movies i have in the library and wont let me import new homemade videos. I try to go back to the old version, but it won´t oppen becouse the Itunes list is made by the new version. Someody have the same problem? Any ideas about what should I do?

I am facing the same issue too. One workaround is to get all the tracks and music videos of that artist by using the search option and then select the video that you want to view. Then double click on that view and you will be able to preview the video rather than directly going to the preview option. This somehow works for me pretty well.
