ITunes doesn't connect to speakers- no network, just speakers

I have an iMac G5 and bought an AE to play music wirelessly through iTunes. iTunes is v 6.0.1. It has the pull down menu to select "stereo" (my name for the AE network) and there is a full set of bars for signal strength.
When selecting "stereo" from the pull down menu in iTunes, a status window opens up showing it's trying to connect, but it never does. It times out after a minute or so with no error message.
While searching for an answer, it seems most people who have a similar issue are connected to a network. This is not connected to any network, I will only be using it for playing music. I have an AE at home and have had it both music only and connected to my base station for wireless internet and it works perfectly.
Thank you for any help.

Update: Fixed.
Thanks to Apple phone support a Hard Reset (i.e. paper clip- holding the button on the AE for about 5 seconds until the amber light flashed quickly) and subsequent network set up, fixed the problem.
Neither of us thought this would have been the fix since the laptop was sending music fine, but it's working perfectly now.

I haven't updated yet. Apple's download servers have been too busy. Did you know you can update via wifi instead of connection to your computer?
Here's a description of the update. Not a lot of changes for iPad 1/2.

If you last used an Apple TV to mirror your device and have updated to the newest Apple TV software, go into settings and turn airplay back on. The icon should then appear on your iPad mini when you swipe up allowing you to disable it for Netflix. After updating my Apple TV software for some reason it turned airplay off.

  • ITunes doesn't connect to the store (no error message, just blank page)

Hi everyone! I'm having troubles with my iTunes for windows XP. It doesn't connect to the music store, it doesn't display any error message and the loading bar stops to a half and then iTunes remains with the blank page, going no further. When I run the diagnostics, it gives me all green dots. So I really don't know what the trouble is... I can only access my accout information and radio stations, nothing more. Can someone help me out please? Thank you very much!

  • AirPort Express connected, but AirTunes doesn't connect to speakers

    Hi all,
I purchased AirPort Express to get my iTunes sounds onto my stereo.
My WIN7 PC is wired to a Netgear DG834 wireless router. I setup wireless connection between Router and APExpress - light on device is green. So far so good.
iTunes shows my living room speakers and my PC speakers. When I select the living room speaker, it starts to search but after a while stops it without getting connection.
Am I too stupid? Any idea getting this running are highly appreciated.
    Thanks

Ok, let's double-check your AX's settings for iTunes streaming:
AirPort Express Base Station (AX) - iTunes Setup
Either connect to the AX's wireless network or connect directly, using an Ethernet cable, to the Ethernet port of the AX, and then using the AirPort Utility in "Manual Setup" mode, make the following changes:
    AirPort > Base Station
o Base Station Name: <rename or leave default>
    o Base Station Password: <enter desired password>
    o Verify Password: <re-enter desired password>
o Remember this password in my keychain: (optional)
    o Set time automatically: (unchecked)
    AirPort > Wireless
o Wireless Mode: Join a wireless network
    o Network Name: <existing Netgear's wireless network>
o Wireless Security: <select the encryption type of the existing wireless network>
o Wireless Password: <enter the existing wireless network password>
o Verify Password: <re-enter the existing wireless network password>
    Music
    o Enable AirTunes (checked)
o iTunes Speaker Name: <enter desired speaker name>
    o iTunes Speaker Password: (optional)
    o Verify Password: (optional)
o Click Update to write the new settings to the AX
    In iTunes:
    iTunes > Preferences... > Advanced > General
o Look for remote speakers connected with AirTunes (checked)

  • My mac doesn't connect to my home network by default

My computer doesn't connect to my Airport basestation by default. The WiFi at the top bar is not connected, if I click on the WiFi symbol I see my connection and 2 of my neighbors, but none are connected by default. I always have to manually select my basestation. When I open Safari for the 1st time I get a "not connected to the Internet" type error. When I click diagnose and walk through the steps of selecting my location and basestation it connects without an issue.
I've gone into the System Preferences and tried to create a new location, but no luck. When I look in System Preferences and click into 'Advanced' my network is the only one listed in the Preferred Networks window. Why does it not connect by default. If I restart the computer I have to manually select my network again.

Have you tried deleting the SSID in the Preferred Networks section and then reentering it?

  • ITunes doesn't connect to any IOS device

Regrettably I've installed IOS 8.0.2 on my iPad2 and now it is super slow.  I wanted to do a full backup to my computer and then setup as a new device hoping a clean install would make it a little bit better.  Unfortunately, I cannot get iTunes to recognize the device.  I've gone through everything I can find online, I've uninstalled all of the apple apps and reinstalled twice, followed all of the steps in iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows to no avail.  The iPad shows up in Windows, I choose the "Trust this computer" when it connects on the iPad but iTunes doesn't see it at all.  I've also tried my iPhone 5 that still has IOS 7 and my son's iPhone6 and none show up.  I'm thinking there must be some registry corruption or temp file corruption or something.  Anyone have any ideas to try at this point?

  • IPhone can no longer connect to AT&T network, just says No Service1

Ever since I returned from a trip to Canada my iPhone has been unable to connect to the AT&T network. It worked fine before I crossed re boarder into Canada last week and while in Canada it was able to connect to the Rogers network.
Since I crossed back into the United States, sometimes it will connect to the AT&T network for a few seconds (never long enough to make a call) then show no service.
To try and fix the problem I have
    -shut off the iPhone
    -reset the iPhone
-ejected and reinserted the SIM card
-verified my AT&T bill was paid
    -reset network settings
    None of that worked.
If I turn Airplane mode on and then off, it says Searching... for a while before going back to No Network.
Also, the unit is able to connect to WiFi networks with no problem.
Any suggestions for how I can get my iPhone to connect again to the AT&T network?
    Thanks!

Thank for the advice. The phone is not a 3G (i probably should have mentioned that).

  • ITunes doesn't connect to remote speakers on my Airport Express?!?

Can you help me solve this technical issue? I have a Linksys wireless router with another device as a wireless repeater (to extend my wireless network). On the other end of this wireless network is my AirPort Express with the AirTunes enabled.
I can ping my AirPort Express from my iMac. But, my iTunes is not successful connecting to the speakers. Can you suggest some remedies for this? Thanks in advance.
    James

Thank you for the quick suggestions. Here are the facts:
    1) iTunes host are on the same network subnet as the AX. I can see both of them on my router. The iMac which the iTunes is running can ping the AX. In fact, the remote speaker is listed in the popup window that shows the built-in Speaker as "Computer" and the name of the AirTune on the AX.
    2) No firewalls between the host and the AX...as far as I know or can tell, all ports are opened within the home network.
    3) The AirPort Utility can see the AX and let's me update the configuration without any problem.
    4) OS X Firewall on my iMac is set to Allow all incoming connections
Again, I'm stucked and confused because my iMac can find the AX thru the AirPort Utility as well as from the iTunes by listing the AX's speaker in the Remote Speakers list.
Why then it cannot connect to it to play music is very big mystery...help! I really like to play music in my backyard.

So by the virtue of my MacBook being compliant with the 802.11d standard I am open to these issues? And from the way you are explaining it it sounds like Apple is ahead of the curve with implementing 802.11d compliance?
They're not ahead of the curve +per se+, but as an example many Windows XP machines are behind the curve if you will.
Would it be legal to write an app or driver that you can set ignore certain problem country codes when you want it to? Because something like this would help my issue also rather than playing lotto each time I turn my MacBook on or wake it from sleep, hoping it will see my wireless network first.
Unfortunately, I'm not a lawyer and not in Australia so I couldn't begin to guess at what is legal and what's not in this arena.
However, there is no interface to the driver to be able to manually set a country code, so the point may be moot.
I don't know what kisMAC can and cannot display, but the country code is broadcast within the 802.11 beacon frame and/or probe response frame if the frame's dot11MultiDomainCapabilityEnabled option is true, so you may want to try looking at its output of beacon frames.
Three octets make up the country code - the two character country code and a third octet which is one of:
        * An ASCII space character (0x20) if the regulations under which the 802.11 station is operating encompass all environments in the country.
        * An ASCII ‘O’ character (0x4F) if the regulations under which the 802.11 station is operating are for an outdoor environment only.
        * An ASCII ‘I’ character (0x49) if the regulations under which the 802.11 station is operating are for an indoor environment only.
The way the 802.11d standard specifies this all works is:
9.9.1 Operation upon entering a regulatory domain
A STA that is enabled for operation across regulatory domains shall default to passive scanning when it has lost connectivity with its ESS. Passive scanning is performed using only the receive capabilities of the station and is, thus, compatible with regulatory requirements. The timeout for determining the loss of connectivity is system dependent and beyond the scope of this standard.
When a STA enters a regulatory domain, it shall passively scan to learn at least one valid channel, i.e., a channel upon which it detects IEEE Std 802.11 frames. The Beacon frame contains information on the country code, the maximum allowable transmit power, and the channels to be used for the regulatory domain. Optionally, the Beacon frame may also include, on a periodic basis, the regulatory information that would be returned in a Probe Response frame. Once the STA has acquired the information so that it is able to meet the transmit requirements of the regulatory domain, it shall transmit a Probe Request to an AP to gain the additional regulatory domain information contained in the Probe Response frame, unless the information was previously received in a Beacon fame. The STA then has sufficient information available to configure its PHY for operation in the regulatory domain.

Note that this spec dates to 2001, so it's hardly something "new," just something that wasn't necessarily widely supported.
