ITunes doesn't import first song off CD

I'm using v.7.0.1 of iTunes, and I've recently noticed that when I import a CD (either commercial or burned) it skips importing the first song. It acts like it does, complete with green mark, but when I go to my library I have only songs 2-whatever. I think this must be a problem with this new version, I don't remember it ever happening before. If anyone has any ideas on how to fix this, I'd appreciate it.

If it's a dustbunny it could be blowing back and forth.  If it's electronic it can flicker on and off as it goes.  I have a LED on my radio downstairs that has been flickering for the past 3 months.  Sometimes it will stay lit for an hour, then suddenly starts going on and off.
Error correction is good but can take forever because iTunes then tries to read several times, not necessarily with success.
One thing that's almost for certain, you aren't going to find some button to click in iTunes that will suddenly clear things up for you.  Generally iTunes or computer settings issues are either there all the time or not at all.
Is this related to the kind of CD?  Burned CDs are harder to read and get worse with time unless you paid top dollar for archival quality.

  • Ipod only syncing first song off most selected to sync albums

My ipod touch fourth generation is only syncing the first song off most of the albums I've selected to sync. A few completely random albums appear in full. I have tried a few approaches thinking maybe the problem had to do with itunes not knowing it's target folder. I deleted all my songs, kept the files, then reloaded all the songs in. This did nothing. Itunes will play the albums in their entirety on my computer, so the files work and are there. And also, when I'm syncing, I can see that the songs are set to eventually sync within the ipod, the tracks appear but they are greyed out. For some reason they just never sync.
I tried manually selecting albums, as opposed to artists, to sync and that didn't work either. On top of this, I have a smart playlist set to sync as well, and still the first song problem persists.
Needless to say, this is frustrating as ****. Any help would be much appreciated

It took me over a week, and multiple calls to Apple Care, and three Genious Bar appointments, and a replaced iPod to find a workaround for this odd problem.  What I finally found to work is set it to manual managment of music, and delete everything.  Then, add your songs in small bunches.  I have put upwards of 750 on at once and it still worked properly.
As for the source of the problem, it is still anyone's guess.
I hope this works for you too.  I wonder if it has something to do with a large music library.

  • ITunes will not import all songs!

On every CD that I've tried to import songs from, iTunes won't import every song. It just freezes up. I know that it isn't the CD drive because all of the songs were ripped into Windows Media Player. I have even tried to import just one song, but still the same problem. Some songs will be in the Library before the freeze, but will disappear after it. On a few CDs, only half of the tracks were imported. Please help me!

First look at the CD and see if its protected.
Secondly goto the PC makers site (If the CD Burner came witht he PC when you bought it) and look for updates for your model, like Firmware updates for the CD ROM and BIOs/chipset updates for the system.

  • How to import first song on burned cd if iTunes won't import it

Often I find that iTunes won't import the first track of a burned cd. It'll just keep cycling and eventually move to the next track. I use Exact Audio Copy to import the first song and then import it into iTunes. EAC has worked EVERY time and I have a lot of burns, of which maybe 1/4 have this problem.
You can get Exact Audio Copy here:
    http://www.exactaudiocopy.org/
You will need the LAME encoder to create mp3s:
    http://www-users.york.ac.uk/~raa110/audacity/lame.html
Just create a LAME folder somewhere and unzip contents to it, then point EAC to lame.exe

  • Itunes doesn't play certain songs and just stops working

it was fine a couple of weeks ago but now it just doesn't play some songs and whenever I doule click those songs it went straight to "Itunes has stopped working." and I have to close the program. Today I just bought a song from Itunes store and it doesn't play either and Itunes stops working as well!!
Please help. this is so annoying.

@ King-Penguin -- no, they don't and that seems to be the problem, thanks!
Why are the ticks important, and do you know how I can tick my entire collection?

  • Automator, iTunes won't shuffle first song

I have a remote computer running iTunes playing a shuffled playlist. I wrote an Automator task to reshuffle the playlist and start it over again. The Workflow is simple:
Get Specified iTunes Items (for a playlist with one blank song)
    Play iTunes Playlist
Get Specified iTunes Items (with the desired playlist)
    Play iTunes Playlist (with Shuffle)
I found that I need to play another playlist in order for the desired playlist to be reshuffled. Otherwise, it picks up where it left off. So the first half of the workflow does that.
Here's the curious thing, the playlist gets shuffled for all but the first song which is always the same! If I do it manually in iTunes, it shuffles fine. Using automator, the first song stays the same no matter how many times I run the shuffle automator.
If I restart iTunes or even if I play a few other playlists manually, it shuffles once, then has the same first song problem for the subsequent runs.
    Any ideas?

    Is it a smart playlist?
If it is, you could try:
    http://dougscripts.com/itunes/scripts/ss.php?sp=reshufflesmart
Or you could just set that playlist as a "source" in party shuffle. And just have automator play iTunes Playlist "Party Shuffle".

  • Itunes doesn't show every song i have

    Eeya guys,
I'm experiencing a problem with itunes. When i start up my itunes and typ in the album of my newly downloaded minimal tracks. It only shows like 60% of the songs that are in there. So i tried to manually add them to the library by pressing "add to library" then click the desired song. But it won't add it. When i look in the directory where the itunes library stores it songs it also doesn't show the song. So i might be able to add them by coping the file from my music folder to my library folder, but my question is: why does itunes does this and maybe there are more songs which i don't know about that it also doesn't show. Hope someone got a solution for me, thanks

Well, I have one episode of Top Gear series 14 and I want to buy the rest of the series but I don't want to buy each episode individually as it costs more. If I click the button to buy the whole series will I get I get the discount off from the episode that I already have and will it download all the episodes apart from the one that I already have.

  • Using itunes with your ipod (deleting songs off ipod)

Hellow, im kinda new to ipod nano and i have a question that i can not find out and is kinda hard for me as a (newb) too figure out. When i open up itunes it shows my Libary and all that good stuff. I plug my ipod in, Than loads, Than it will say Tim's Ipod beacuse that's what i have saved it as. What i want to do is delete some of the songs off my ipod that i have downloaded. Is this possible or no beacuse i dont have a clue.
    Thank you
    Tim

iTunes for Windows and the standard copy protected songs purchased from the iTunes Store are only compatible with the iPod/iPhone range and the iTunes enabled phones from Motorola. You may be able to get your player working with the aid of a third party helper program. Have a look at this one and see what you think: iTunes Agent -Windows
If your player supports drag and drop through Windows Explorer you can drag tracks from the iTunes Music folder rather than through the iTunes interface. Also remember that many players will not work with AAC (MP4) format at present so if you imported anything from CD into iTunes using the AAc encoder then they will need to be converted to MP3. You won't be able to convert iTunes Store copy protected songs, you can only burn them to data discs for backup or Audio CD to play on other players.

  • How do I stop iTunes from automatically importing the songs I download?

I usually end up deleting a bunch of songs, but iTunes is automatically importing/adding the songs I download which then creates a lot of missing file links. How do I stop iTunes from doing that, I just want to be able to add them manually by folders.

    I'm having a similar problem.
When I download songs via my MobileMe "iDisk" webpage, it will automatically end up in iTunes and starts playing. I set up my iDisk settings to place my downloads on my desktop, which it does, just fine.
Nonetheless iTunes ALWAYS wanting to be part of it, is really annoying.
I just DON'T want iTunes to start up, just because a download finished. I add songs manually myself when I want it.
    Any advise ?? Thanks

  • ITunes won't import a song

I had some songs stored in a folder in the My Music folder. When I added the folder to iTunes using the (rather obvious) "Add Folder to iTunes" command under the File menu it added all the songs in the folder except for one. I've tried over and over to get iTunes to import this song into my library but it won't work, and the last thing I'm going to do is use Windows Media Player to play one song because iTunes won't. The song is an MP3 file and its bit rate is 256KBps. I don't know if those last two bits will help but it can't hurt to include them.

Is there any possibility that this song is copy-protected? Did you import it yourself from a CD or did you buy it from an online source? If DRM is on the song--you'll have to burn it to an audio CD and import it that way.

  • ITunes doesn't open, lost song list

My iTunes doesn't open for some reason, so I downloaded a new iTunes which works, but doesn't have anything showing on it. My music is on an external HD. How do I get the songs to appear on the iTunes again?
many thanks for anyone that knows!

    gta129,
Do you have iTunesHelper set to start up when you login? To check if it's in the list of login items:
    1. Open System Preferences.
    2. Click the Accounts pane.
    3. Select your user.
    4. Click the Login Items tab.
    5. See if iTunes Helper is listed here.
    Hope this helps,
    Jennifer B.

  • My itunes is separating the first song from the rest of the album

Can anyone help, my itunes separates the first song from the rest of the album so they apear as two separate things in itunes, very very annoying as it has only done it one some albums not all!!

I was having this problem if I changed the name of an artist for an entire album from in grid view. This ended up changing the name successfully, but left me with the first track as a separate item in the grid. The solution suggested by bkpr worked for me; I entered the artist name into the album artist field, and saving this change merged the album back together. I could then remove the album artist entry without the album separating again. Thanks for the suggestio bkpr

  • How is a directory (folder) formatted to allow iTunes to correctly import ripped songs from my HD?

I have ripped files and have examined them with a 'kd3' program and see some of the formatting.  However when I ask iTunes to import them, I get a partial or non existent result.  Many of my file names are like " 01 - Friend of Mine.mp3".  There is no identification of the artist, although the name of the directory is the ripped CD's name.  Many I have of multiple entries, so there is like "Blondie" then in that directory is each of the owned CD's (or albums) that I have ripped.  I would hope it could figure out it was a "Blondie" and what each album was, but, alas, no such luck.  I can't seem to find anything that identifies what exactly the directory should look like, or if I need a flat file with 'kd3' type entries and separate music files (as identified in the flat file?)
Although this seems simple, I have struggled many hours, even asking and receiving information.  Somehow I'm just missing the boat...
    Thanks
    Jack

iTunes organizes its media files and folders based on the metadata ("properties" or "tags") within the music files that you add to its library.  File names are irrelevant.  You can see the metadata in Windows Explorer by right-clicking on one of your MP3 files, select Properties and then the Details tab.  You shoud see something like this:
If some or all of the properties are missing or incorrect you have two choices:
Correct the metadata in the MP3 files before you import into iTunes - you can do this (albeit inefficiently) in Windows Explorer, or using any 3rd party application that can read, modify and update this information.  I use Foobar2000 for this, but there are many other alternative solutions available.
Import the songs into iTunes and correct the metadata there (right-click > Get Info on one or more selected songs/albums).
When you have these options enabled in iTunes (Edit > Preferences > Advanced):
iTunes will automatically maintain its file and folder structures so that all songs are located in C:\Users\username\Music\iTunes Media\Music\artist_name\album_name and files are named either track_number song_title (for single disc albums) or disc_number-track number song_title (for multi-disc albums).
If you use method (1) above iTunes will not pick up any changes until you play the songs.  In general, once you've imported anything into iTunes its much better to use iTunes rather than any other method to update metadata, and you should never try to rename or move files once they've been added to your library - this will result in broken links ... next to tracks that then won't play or sync to iDevices.

  • ITunes Doesn't Import Entire Length of Track

I'm a DJ and have a music mix that I made (on a finalized CD-RW disc) with one long mix/track that is 1 hour 18 minutes. When I insert the CD into my MacBook Pro, iTunes recognizes the CD, the track and the entire length of the track. When I play the CD, it plays in its entirety. But when I attempt to import the CD, only 1 hour 2 minutes is imported, cutting off the last 16 minutes of my mix. I've tried to delete the file from iTunes and re-import it several times, but keep getting the same cut off version in iTunes.
Any recommendations on how to get the entire length of my track to import? NOTE: I've imported other mixes of mine with tracks just as long and have never had them partially imported.

This may be very annoying to do, but I'd import one hour into AIFF or WAV format. Then, using the track options to set the begin/end times, import the last 20 minutes or so (with overlap).
Then reassemble these in audio software like Audacity or GarageBand or whatever you have that's easiest for you. Then export into the file format of your choice.
I've had to do this before too, but for different reasons than yours.
