ITunes doesn't launch - no errors or anything.

iTunes refuses to launch after I closed it through the Task Manager because it wasn't responding. Does anyone have a solution for this? Please, help.
iTunes 7   Windows XP

some preliminary questions aimed at narrowing in on possible culprits.
(1) do you have Norton Internet Security 2005 installed on the PC?
(2) try launching your QuickTime. does it:
(a) launch perfectly fine?
(b) fail to launch with an error message? (if so, what does it say?)
(c) exhibit other peculiar behavior? (if so, could you describe it for us?)
(3) reboot the PC. bring up your Task Manager, and click on the "Processes" tab. now try to launch itunes again.
does an "itunes.exe" process appear in the Processes tab? if so, does it persist in there or does it disappear after a few seconds?

All other software and internet works fine. I have downloaded no new software, and my spyware/virus sweeps find nothing. HELP!!!!

I bought a new computer, and downloaded  iTunes, therefore  the new itunes doesn't have my music or anything on there. I want to get everything on my iPhone to my new computer/itunes. But no matter what I do, it won't let me. My desktop has everything that my phone has on it, I just want it all moved to my laptop. Does that make sense? I could really use some help. I don't live with this desktop anymore so I need to be able to use my laptops itunes. Please help me. Thanks in advance!

These are two possible approaches that will normally work to move an existing library to a new computer.
    Method 1
Backup the library with this User Tip.
Deauthorize the old computer if you no longer want to access protected content on it.
Restore the backup to your new computer using the same tool used to back it up.
Keep your backup up-to-date in future.
    Method 2
Connect the two computers to the same network. Share your <User's Music> folder from the old computer and copy the entire iTunes library folder into the <User's Music> folder on the new one. Again, deauthorize the old computer if no longer required.
Both methods should give the new computer a working clone of the library that was on the old one. As far as iTunes is concerned this is still the "home" library for your devices so you shouldn't have any issues with iTunes wanting to erase and reload.
I'd recommend method 1 since it establishes an ongoing backup for your library.
Note if you have iOS devices and haven't moved your contacts and calendar items across then you should create one dummy entry of each in your new profile and iTunes should  merge the existing data from the device.
If your media folder has been split out from the main iTunes folder you may need to do some preparatory work to make it easier to move. See make a split library portable.
Should you be in the unfortunate position where you are no longer able to access your original library or a backup then then seeRecover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device for advice on how to set up your devices with a new library with the maximum preservation of data.

Itunes will not launch, no error message (windows xp, itunes 10.7.0.21)
    Yeah

OK, so i cannot enter into iTunes safe mode, whilst monitoring proccesses in the task manager I noticed that itunes will only stay open if i keep my fingers on shift and control-i dont know if that is worth mentioning- the proccess promptly ends after the release of the said keys, (I tried both the shift control keys on either side of the keyboard-same result) so i am stuck there.
    P.S.
This version of iTunes had previously worked before, I uninstalled everything apple related after noticing how many processes (-id est-) /applications, were using up my memory.
afterwards I had need for iTunes, (i needed to wipe my iDevice) I reinstalled and this problem has arisen.

  • When iPhone 3GS is connected iTunes doesn't launch

Updated to iTunes 9, updated iPhone to 3.1. When iPhone gets connected iTunes doesn't launch automatically. I should add though, that my ipod shuffle when connected does auto launch iTunes.

Here's what I did: uncheck "disable autosync for ipod and iphones" in itunes/settings. Then connect your phone, go to summary pane and choose "sync when this phone is connected". Go back to itunes/settings and select "disable autosync..." again. Check the summary pane again, autosync should be garyed out again. Close itunes, disconnect the phone. Connect again and itunes should auto launch without starting to sync.

  • ITunes will not Launch - System error

After updating my OS X to 10.4.3 and updating iTunes to 6.0.1 I found that I was unable to launch iTunes. The error message stated "unable to read file or write to disk".
This seemed to sound like the file or app was locked down from what I understand from my other mac friends.
I am desperately missing my iTunes music and the ability to view Quicktime as well. Not sure if they are inter-linked.
    Somebody please help?
    17" Metallic G4 Powerbook   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

Put me on the list of people for whom iTunes won't launch anymore.
I got the notification that iTunes had a new upgrade last night. So I let it. After that, everthing seemed to go normally except that after I click to accept the licence agreement, an error comes up
"The iTunes application could not be opened. An unknown error occurred. 0x666D743F"
That's it. I've tried removing iTunes and reinstalling about 4 times. I've also removed both iTunes and Quicktime, then reinstalling. I don't use Norton firewall. I do use Norton Antivirus. NAV is up to date.
I've used the registry editor to check for anything that may be left behind. It appears clean after an uninstall.
An interesting thing is that the desktop icon after a reinstall is a generic looking one with 6 little icons inside a slightly larger rectangle. When I right click to change to the nicer iTunes icon I notice that a lot of information to "start the program in" is missing. I've tried putting the path to iTunes in there, but that doesn't help either.
I sure hope some help or a fix/workaround or whatever is forthcoming. My iPod nano is going to be useless soon without a functioning iTunes.

I have an ipod shuffle and everything was fine till I downloaded the new version of itunes. Now itunes does not launch, it does not do anything atall, no error message, no hourglass, nothing.
Also, my ipod shuts down after playing for just 5 minutes. It seems like it is not getting charged even if I leave it in my computer for a while.
    Quicktime launces without any problems.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

  • ITunes doesn't launch at all

I recently bought an iPod, and to sync it with my computer I need to use iTunes. The download and installation went perfectly fine, but when I try to launch it, nothing happens. With nothing I mean that my hard drive starts working, the mouse pointer changes to an hourglass to let me know the computer is working, and even in the windows task manager the process is running. But the main screen of iTunes doesn't pop up, not even a setup asking me what to do next. Not the application, but the process is running.. so there's no way to exit the program, since the process isn't terminated if I decide to do that.
Does anyone know what I could do to fix this problem?

Is it normal that this thread starts loading over and over again? It appears to be loaded and then starts from the top. It doesn't seem to make advances...
gaaah. yeah, that's the effect that hits me in IE 6.
okay, i managed to hack into the thread using Firefox. here's the text from the relevant post:
    Lorraine M technique begins
Turn NIS 2005's Personal Firewall OFF, (turn it OFF Permanently until your ready to turn it back on) then click CONFIGURE.
Under the PROGRAMS tab remove any reference to Apple iTunes or iTunes or iTunes Helper Module or anything related. and reboot.
After coming back go back to NIS 2005's Personal Firewall, click CONFIGURE. Under the PROGRAMS tab click ADD at the bottom, a SELECT A PROGRAM
window will pop up. Add the following files one at a time, iTunes.exe, iTunesHelper.exe, QuickTimePlayer.exe, qttask.exe, QTInfo.exe. The last 3 are found
in your Quicktime folder where that is in your system. Click OK. Turn NIS 2005's Personal Firewall ON, and try starting iTunes again.
This worked for me. It seems the Quicktime files were never automatically entered into my NIS 2005's Personal Firewall allowable programs listing. Adding them
manually should help. I also noticed that from my previous version of iTunes the program listed in the Firewall was named Apple iTunes and not iTunes after I upgraded to 6.

  • ITunes doesn't launch automatically when iPhone is connected

This used to work fine...I'd attached my iPhone 3GS to my MacBook via USB, iTunes would automatically launch and begin synching my iPhone. Then (I'm not exactly sure what happened...perhaps it was an update, or a spate of time when I was travelling and using a spotty wireless connection, I'm not sure), but for several weeks now, iTunes no longer autolaunches and synchs when I connect the iPhone.
    I did some tests:
iTunes does autolaunch when I connect my iPod Classic.
I can open iTunes manually, and iTunes sees my iPhone and syncs it automatically.
When I connect my iPhone, iPhoto does come up automatically if I have photos to sync.
The iPhone makes it's happy little connection sound when attached to the laptop via USB and still charges.
Under iTunes Preferences, Devices, I still have "Prevent iPods, iPhones and iPads from synching automatically" unchecked.
So the only thing I can see that is not working here is autolaunch of iTunes via iPhone.
    I have iTunes 10.4(80)
    iPhone 4.3.5
    Mac OS 10.6.8
    Any ideas?

I’ve found another solution for those where this doesn’t resolve it.
    From user Crosbie at MacForums.com
You can extract iTunes Helper from the iTunes package, if you like, to replace the absent one.
It can be found by right-clicking the iTunes app and choosing 'Show Package Contents'; then navigate down to the 'MacOS' folder. You can then drag it to your open 'login items' window.

  • ITunes doesn't launch...

I recently downloaded the updated version of iTunes from the Apple website as recommended by the version of iTunes I installed from the CD that came with my iPod.
    I have a 4 GB Nano iPod...
Anyway, one day for some strange reason, the software refused to open when I double-click it either from the desktop icon, or from the start menu shortcuts. I assumed it was a software problem and I re-installed. Now, the problem persists and I am unable to use my iPod with iTunes on my computer.
Additionally, I had a friend use my iPod on his computer which also has iTunes installed...(he has a 30 GB Video iPod)...he said that my iPod was not connecting with his version of iTunes either...although his iPod works perfectly fine on his system.
Does anyone know why this is happening?
I'd really appreciate some help on this..
    Cheers!

Next time, try the Installing or Using iTunes Forum. But, I can help you. So, it was working, then all of a sudden did not? Or did it stop working after upgrading to a newer version?
If it randomly stopped working, my first guess would be malware. There are malware programs out there that cause iTunes to not launch without giving any error message. Your first step should be to rule this cause out or correct it. You can find a free malware program called EWIDO here: http://www.ewido.net/en/ It is remarkable in how it detects and removes the malware that causes this crash and burn of iTunes.
If this stopped working after an upgrade, I would still look at malware as a cause, but also your antivirus and firewall programs. Many of them tend to interfere with iTunes by either blocking it from opening, or interferring with the successful download and install causing it to be bungled up. Also, check on your PC to see if Quicktime got installed. Sometimes they just bungle up Quicktime, and iTunes cannot open and work without Quicktime. You can download the Quicktime standalone here: http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/standalone.html
Good Luck and post back if you have problems and/or questions.

  • ITunes doesn't launch with iPod

I have had this iPod touch for a few years.  Quite recently iTunes stopped auto-launching when I connect the iPod.
I have tried clearing the auto-launch checkbox and syncing, then setting the auto-launch checkbox back on, but to no avail.

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.

I have the same problem, and it wasn't solved by re-installing Mavericks. After a reboot, the first time I try to start iTunes it takes a long time starting up, but then shuts down without ever showing a window. After that, it immediately shuts down upon launch. I'm running iTunes 11.1.3. I tried re-installing iTunes only, and tried re-installing Mavericks, but to no avail.
