iTunes doesn't open when i plug in my iPhone

You may have an incomplete iTunes installation.  Uninstall your iTunes and Re-install again.
If this still fails, try the following steps:
1. Go to Microsoft website to fix install and Unistall problems. Click "Run now" from Fix it to remove all iTunes & related installer files:
http://support.microsoft.com/mats/Program_Install_and_Uninstall
Be aware that Windows Installer CleanUp Utility will not remove the actual program from your computer. However, it will remove the installation files so that you can start the installation, upgrade, or uninstall over.
2. You should remove all instances of iTunes and the rest of the components listed below:
it may be necessary to remove all traces of iTunes, QuickTime, and related software components from your computer before reinstalling iTunes.
Use the Control Panel to uninstall iTunes and related software components in the following order:
iTunes
QuickTime
Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support
Bonjour
Apple Application Support (iTunes 9 or later)
Follow the instructions from Apple article listed here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923 to remove all components3. Reboot your computer. Next, download iTunes from here:http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/ and install from scratch

  • ITunes no longer opens when I plug in my iPhone - iPhoto does. Help!

Don't know what happened - but when I plug in my iPhone to sync - iPhoto opens up - not iTunes.   I went to Help, and changed USB port, restarted computer and iPhone....  iPhoto still opens instead of iTunes.  Device only shows up on iPhoto window, not iTune.  Is there a fix?

It SHOULD show up in iPhoto if you have photos in your Camera Roll, in addition to opening in iTunes.

iTunes doesn't open when my iPad is connected although the box is checked on the summary page of iTunes

    Hey saxmanswife,
Thanks for the question! I was able to find a document that goes over the same issue you're encountering, iTunes not opening automatically when connecting your device. Check it out here and see if that resolves it:

  • Itunes doesn't open when my ipod touch 4g is connected, consequently it won't charge or sync

itunes doesn't open when my ipod touch 4g is connected, consequently it won't charge or sync

I was surprised too, but I guess nobody gave a cr*p. I figured it out on my own. Basically, sync, then uncheck the box for the option to open iTunes when that iPod is hooked up, sync again, then check the box, and sync one last time. A dialog box pops up that asks if it's OK to install "iTunes Helper". Say "yes". Now it works.

  • HT201263 iTunes doesn't open after I plug in the phone

After trying to update to ios 7.0.6, iTunes doesn't open after I plug in the phone and doesn't show the message "iTunes has detected an iPhone in recovery mode. You must restore this iPhone before it can be used with iTunes.", which it should. What do I do now?

  • Itunes does not open when I plug in my ipod

itunes does not open when I plug in my ipod mini!
A window opens with the name of my ipod kiwi(E:) & a picture of a disk drive next to it.
I have to manually open itunes. No error messages pops up, so I can't figure out what's preventing the system from recognizing my ipod. In the system tray in an icon safely remove hardware if I it click my ipod ejects. My ipod still charges as normal.
Open itunes when this ipod is attached is checked off
Enable disk use is checked off
I ran a scan no malware
      Windows XP

So you connect the iPod containing a hard drive. I would guess you are using USB, right? Then Windows opens a window (wow, that's repetative) that identifies this as a USB hard drive.
    Am I close?
It sounds like you've told the iPod to act in Disk Mode. On the same preferences pane that you are telling iTunes to open, uncheck the box for enable disk mode. the mini should stop telling your computer it is a hard drive.

  • Itunes application not responding when I plug in my iphone

I am on itunes 8.2 and when I plug in my iphone itunes just goes into application not responding.
I wait for a while and then unplug the phone and it goes back to working again.
On the phone there is no "Sync" message. In fact with the phone plugged in I can access the phones apps just as if it was not plugged in.
But initially when I plug it in, it does the double vibrate and shows the charging graphic so I know the cable is ok.
The phone is already on 3.1 apparently because some new features are there... like selecting multiple photos to email.
But I don't recall ever running any updates in itunes to make it use the new software as I read you were supposed to do.
I don't want to upgrade to itunes 9 because I read so many people having problems with it... but I wonder if the phone is no longer compatible with itunes 8.2
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks.
    -Jeff

Do you know if the problems people have reported with itunes 9 was before the 9.1 release?
I've heard tons of people saying they were reverting back to itunes 8.2 because 9 was so bad.
Am a bit nervous about that update because of that.
But an applecare guy told me that the 9.1 was supposed to address those issues. I have just not heard anything about that actually fixing things though. Still seems like a lot of people are dreading the new itunes 9.
If you are an itunes 9 user, did you have any problems with it wiping out your library or any terribly long syncing times?
    Thanks.

  • How do I stop iTunes from coming up when I plug in the iPhone

I don't always want iTunes to come up, only for syncing, when I plug in my iPhone or iPad. I most often just download photos using Image Capture and don't need iTunes for that.
I see nothing in iTunes preferences (where it should be you would think) about disabling iTunes from starting up when  you plug in the iPhone.

I'm being careful to rely on help with this as I have in the past 'done what is logical' and wound up destroying files and in a pickle. So I ask this one other related questions then:
If I want to back up to computer then the 'automatically backs up to this computer' really means nothing as the message across from it says it has never been backed up before even though it automatically syncs then?
This is very thin ice. I think I do remember in older versions of iTunes a checkbox like the one you mentioned first, but now it is gone.
Whew. I'm sweating out what to do next.

  • ITunes does not start when I plug in my iphone after I upgraded to Lion?

  • After downloading and installing the 64-bit version of iTunes for Windows I get a "Congratulations, you've successfully installed iTunes" message. However, when I plug in my iPhone to synch it I get a message that says that I don't the 64-bit version??

After downloading the 64-bit version of iTunes on my Windows 7 machine I get the "Congratulations, you've successfully installed iTunes" message.  However, when I plug in my iPhone I get an error message that says, in part, "...the required software is not installed.  Run the installer to remove iTunes, then install the 64-bit version of iTunes".  I've been at this for hours, carefully deleting all Apple software (Apple Mobile Support, Quicktime, etc. and before each attempt to install the 64-bit version from Apple ( no third parties).  Same result each time!!!  Any ideas????

Let's try a standalone Apple Mobile Device Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of why it's not installing under normal conditions.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR:
    http://www.rarlab.com/
Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").
Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi (or AppleMobileDeviceSupport64.msi) to do a standalone AMDS install.
(If it offers you the choice to remove or repair, choose "Remove", and if the uninstall goes through successfully, see if you can reinstall by doubleclicking the AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi again.)
Does it install (or uninstall and then reinstall) properly for you? If so, does your device connect without that message now?

  • How do I stop iPhoto from opening when i plug in my iPhone?

How do I stop Iphoto from opening when I plug in my Iphone?

Having the preference in iPhoto makes perfect sense to me.  After all, iPhoto is the application that opens.  You would expect that is where you should provide some guidance not to open.
What puzzles me much more is why you would post this comment more than 18 months after wjosten answered the original question.

  • After 4.3, iTunes no longer opens when I plug my iPhone in to sync

I downloaded the most recent update. Now, when I plug in my iPhone to sync/charge, only iPhoto opens and iTunes will not.  I have the box checked in iTunes to open iTunes when the phone is connected but it doesn't and I have to open it manually.  Bug????

Problem SOLVED. Somehow iTunesHelper disappeared from Login Items. Not sure what caused this, but here's how to fix the problem.
Goto System Preferences:Accounts:Login Items. Check to see if iTunesHelper is listed and not unknown. If it is unknown, delete it. Then go to Finder, find iTunes, and Control-Click to Show Package Contents. Go to Contents:MacOS and you'll see iTunesHelper. Now just drag this into the Login Items window in System Preferences and check the Hide box. Restart your Mac and iTunes should now start whenever an iOS device is connected.
THIS WORKS - just do this and ituneshelper gets reinstalled

  • ITunes doesn't open when I connect my iPhone

i upgraded from Tiger to Leopard. Since then every time I connect my iPhone, iTunes doesn't open automatically. And the phone restarts every time I connect to computer. Please help.

One other thing to check. When you plug in your iPhone, open iTunes to sync it, and on the Summary Page for the iPhone, look near the bottom of it for the Options section. Put a check in the box that says: Automatically sync when this iPhone is connected. That should automatically open iTunes and start the syncing every time you connect it to the computer. Hope this does it for you.
