ITunes doesn't play through USB Soundcard

Hi, I am using a USB soundcard because the headphone jack on my laptop is really scratchy. However, playback goes through my built-in soundcard and then to the speakers, rather than through my USB soundcard into my headphones.
I've checked all system settings for the soundcard, and everything points at the USB soundcard even though iTunes is the only program that plays through the built-in soundcard.

That's kind of you to say so, Kim. Glad you got things sorted out.

iTunes doesn't play music. I try to start any song by remote app in iPhone from sleeping mode of mac mini.
I can see all my music library, choose any artist and any albom.
But when I try to start the music nothing is happen.
The button Play/pause doesn't work and the play-bar is not moving.
This issue have appeared after upgrade to iTunes 11 and new remote app.
After reboot iTunes everything is ok, but in a sleep mode I have the same problem.
    Please help!

okay. i solved the problem. After reading a few other posts on related topics, it appears that using either the Setup Assistant(instead of the Airport Admin program) or if you are using the new version called 'Airport Utility' to use the option to 'Assist Me'. After going through the setup in this way it worked!

  • Itunes doesn't play the video anymore

Help! ITunes doesn't play the video clips anymore just the sound works.
I've restarted, quit the other applications but no result.
    What can I do ?
    Thank you for your suggestions.
    ITunes 8.1
    QuickTime 7.6
    Mac OS 10.5.6
    Mac Pro 2x3 GHz

If you are playing through remote speakers, iTunes 8.1 will not play the video. Previous versions would play fine using only the computer's speakers, but 8.1 requires the remote airtunes speakers be deselected.

  • ITunes doesn't play wavs made on PC

I have backed up a number of PC files on a DVD and tried to put them on my iPod shuffle, using iTunes on my MacPro, when I realized that iTunes doesn't play them, so I can't put them on the shuffle. However, those wav files play alright in Quicktime on my Mac. Why not also on iTunes? Is there something that I have to enable, or some sort of conversion that I must do?
The files seem to load in the playlist, then they show in both the playlist and the Music folder. The files seem to be there, for when I Ctrl+click > Get info, within iTunes, it shows their size, sample rate, etc. It's just that they won't play.
Any suggestion will be much appreciated.

Yes, I have played almost endless numbers of WAVs in iTunes. These files have been created with foobar2000, PlexTools Professional, and EAC for the most part.
My PC is switched off right now so I can't play with NMP WAV files and iTunes, but I still think that if you simply use another program to reconvert the problematic files to WAV format again (a lossless process) with known good settings, the files will likely play in iTunes.
Also, it may be that NMP has created "floating point" vs. "fixed point" WAVs, and that would cause problems with iTunes.

  • Ever since I updated the operating system, itune doesn't play music on iphone 4. if it plays, it plays only one song and gets stuck.

Ever since I updated the operating system, itune doesn't play music on iphone 4. If it plays, it plays only one song and gets stuck. I've tried to reconnect to the computer to see whethere there has been missing portion during the upgrade... but not really. does anyone have the same issue?

    What does "gets stuck" mean?
    It repeats?
    It stops playing?
Have you tried the basics from the manual?  Restart.  Reset.  Restore.

  • ITunes no longer plays through all my speakers!

Until recently I have been using iTunes with no problems.
However last week for no apparent reason it started playing up.
Now everytime I click on a track from library etc it only plays through the rear speakers of my 5.1 system.
If I use Windows Media Player etc all works fine, it is just iTunes.
I have uninstalled and re-installed iTunes, no difference.
    Any ideas?

    I'm having a similar problem.
When I click to play some of my purchased songs, it just skips right over it. But, it increases the "Play Count" column value by 1 each time, even though it doesn't play anything.
Of the $50 worth of music that I just bought today, only 2 songs seem to be working. The "Play Count" column is blank for these songs. And I think these are songs that I bought without previewing them first.
Maybe if you buy a song WHILE previewing it, it will cause this bug? /shrug

  • My burned audio CD/DVD from iTunes doesn't play on a CD/DVD audio player

If I burn audio CD or DVD from my iTunes, I cannot play this music on an external player. Any recommendations? Thanks
    iBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

Hi I just burned an MP3 CD straight from iTunes, and it doesn't play on any MP3 CD player I've tried it on (car MP3 deck, DVD player that plays audio CDs, and MP3s). Audio CDs burned from iTunes work fine though.
I've read somewhere, that when burning MP3 CDs from iTunes, iTunes burns it with Apples standard format, rather than CD players standard format of ISO 9660. And that is the reason why burned MP3 CDs from iTunes only plays on a Mac.
A work around I've done was select all the songs from my list duplicate them in another folder, and then reconvert them in MP3s (so that I don't have to search all over the place for each MP3 file). I then burned these MP3s onto a CD-R using toast's MP3 CD format. And it works on all my MP3 CD players. However, in doing this process, I've lost all the tags for each MP3. The only thing that comes up in the display is the name of the song. Artist, Album, etc... don't show up anymore.
Is there a way of burning an MP3 CD that will play on all MP3 enabled players, while keeping all ID Tags intact, in iTunes?
    Thanks.

  • Itunes doesn't play video

Hello, I have had this problem for years, and it really stinks that I can't watch any of the stuff i've purchased on iTunes.
Any time I try and watch a video in iTunes (that i purchased through iTunes, it freezes and crashes iTunes.  If i try and watch some of these movies or tv shows through Quicktime player stand alone, it will play some of them if not most and all of them, but the video for some reason appears sub standard. I am convinced I will never get this issue resolved, which really stinks because i would probably buy more movies and tv shows through itunes. =(
OK:  I did a complete gut uninstall of everything apple from my pc, and a registry clean etc. and then a complete reinstall and it still doesn't work.
I also went into Quicktime settings and changed the 3D acceleration settings as some threads suggest.
So other than those things right there I don't know what to say???  I have a 16 gigs of ram, an i7 processor, and HD radeon GPU... my hardware is not the issue.  p.s  I also watch movies via cyberlink power dvd etc, so I know I am able to watch video.  I am thinking i am missing some type of codec... who knows, I don't or i wouldn't be typing this.

  • ITunes doesn't play to the correct output device

    Background
I have an Acer Aspire 5100 laptop running Vista Home Premium connected to a Xbrand 360 Universal Docking station via USB. Bose Companion 2 Series II speakers are connected to the dock via a 3.5mm miniplug and cable.
    Problem
iTunes output goes to the laptop's built-in speakers while all other sounds go to the docking station connected speakers as desired.
    Detail
More specifically, when tested from Windows Control Panel the tones emanate from the Bose speakers. On playing iTunes, songs continue to be output to the laptop's built-in speakers. Windows Media Player directs the output through the dock to the Bose speakers. Streaming media through IE 7.0 also plays through the dock to the speakers. Windows sounds play through the Bose speakers. Disabling the laptop speakers in Windows control panel has no effect. I have followed instruction from Xbrand, the dock manufacturer, to select the Bose speakers as the default speakers in Windows Control Panel. They acknowledge integration issues with Vista and suggest this as the work around. I have found no options in iTunes preferences or elsewhere that direct playback to different media except some AirTunes stuff which I ve deselected. Crossfade, Sound Enhancer, and Sound Check are also deselected.
    A remedy is greatly appreciated.

I thought I had rebooted the laptop but apparently I had not. Restart solves the problem.

  • ITunes doesn't play the next song, it just stops after one track.

I have iTunes 11.0.1. When I play a song in my playlist, I expect the next song to start as the first one ends, but iTunes stops and doesn't play the next song. I'm missing some sort of setting but what?
It's not a smart playlist, just a playlist of favorite music I've built up over the years.
    Mountain Lion.

Have the tracks become unchecked? iTunes will skip unchecked tracks, so if they're all unchecked, iTunes will play one and then stop. If this is indeed the case, re-checkmark the tracks - Command-click will select or unselect them all - and you should then have continuous playback.
    Hope this helps.

  • ITunes doesn't play files stored in iTunes media Folder

    Hi, have this problem:
I had deleted my files from iTunes media folder, but as luckily I had the same files located in other place I just copied them to the iTunes Media but iTunes rejects to play them (in my iTunes Library). I'm only able to play them if I go through the procedure as followings: Play - "iTunes unable to open this file because the original file not found. Do you want to find it?" (or smith like that) - Find - Open  and then it plays, but I have to perform these actions with every file separately and I have quite a lot of them. Oh, and after that first popping-up window the next one appears "Would you like iTunes to find other missing files from the same location as [the file's name]?" But when I click on "Find" it says "iTunes were unable to find other missing files". Why? How do I accomplish the same task but with all my albums at once without necessity to add them one by one?  Does there some way exists to tie the tracks from my albums with original files without importing them to my iTunes library?
    Thank you

Understand how iTunes works.  iTunes does not actively look for files.  When you add a file to iTunes the location of that file is saved in the iTunes database (library file).  When you try to play a track iTunes looks in its database for where the linked file is to be found and tries to play the specific file it has listed in that location.  If you deleted the file then it no longer exists.  I think even if you replace it with one that is identical, iTunes is still looking for that specific file.  You can link the track listing to a new file using the process you have done.  In theory iTunes should be able to find others but the files have to have been organized by iTunes in the past because it will be working on the basis of how it thinks they should be arranged. Additionally the files you replaced have to have exactly the same name as the ones you deleted because iTunes will expect them to be named how it would name them when they were first entered into your library

  • ITunes doesn't play.... what's up??

Ok, this is weird but I'm afraid the answer might be both obvious and tragic. All of a sudden, iTunes quit working completely, except that everything about it looks perfectly normal. It's not frozen, I can click on my playlists, I can drag the time bar and everything else, but that it doesn't play music, which is sort of an important part of iTunes. The play button does nothing other than briefly turn blue. It doesn't switch to the pause button and the time doesn't start to run. The space bar and the play tab in the menu do nothing either.
I've tried installing the latest version of iTunes, I'm now using 6.0.4. The upgrade didin't help. Everything had been fine until all of a sudden yesterday I couldn't get it to work. Now, the only problem I can think of is something sort of badand scary.... the disk utility has been telling me for a year now that my hard drive "has reported a fatal error." But so far everything has been working fine. Is there something about a fatal error that could keep the play button from working? I know fatal errors are serious, but this hasn't been causing any problems.... I've just been holding my breath for a year, and backing up a lot.
Are there any suggestions anybody can make, other than getting a new iBook, which is a sweet idea but out of the question at the moment?

Since you installed a new version, it's unlikely the iTunes application is the culprit.
The only thing I can thinks of at the moment, is deleting the iTunes preference files.
Drag the next files in ~/users/YourUsername/Library/Preferences to the desktop:
    com.apple.iTunes.eq.plist
    com.apple.iTunes.plist
    com.apple.iTunesHelper.plist
com.apple.iTunes.xxxxxxxxxxxx.plist (x-es are characters and numbers)
The last file is located in the Byhost folder of the above mentioned path.
Run iTunes and try again to play a song.
    Hope this helps.

  • Internet Audio will no longer Play Through USB Output to hi-fi Amplifier & Speakers

My audio output jack on my Mac G4 is broken. I have been taking audio out of the computer by USB into a device that converts the audio so it can be used with a traditional amplifier and speakers. This presently, still works fine for audio or audio/video sources that are stored on my hard drive.  Yesterday, I was looking at a youtube video embedded on a non-youtube site. Both audio and video were working fine. Then the audio stopped working. I went to the youtube site and no audio worked there either. I have tried myspace and other sources with audio/video, but no longer will audio from the internet, play on the USB system.  Any player on the hard drive will produce audio through the USB port to the amplifier system. If I switch the Mac OS X.4.11 system preferences to select the internal speakers for the output destination, I can get audio from the internet again. Then everything from the internet or the computer plays through the internal speakers. I have Safari and Firefox Browsers. I need to be able to play music from the internet through the USB port to my amplifier and speakers. One suggestion I researched was to trash the Macromedia preferences and then restart the browser. I tried that to no avail. Hopefully, somebody out there knows what happened and can tell me how to fix it.

    Hi BD,
Thanks for saving me. And thanks for responding so quickly. Your answer was there when I got up. For me 48 hours was a long time to go without that function.
I had seen one reference to the audio midi setup app and had looked at it but somehow only saw the midi devices dialog box which I had dealt with in the past. After your post I went back to it and I immediately discovered that there is also an audio devices dialog box.
From the drop-down menu I selected 44100.0 hz int the format field on the output (right) side of the dialog box.
Also the Default Ouput and the System Output fields had built-in audio selected instead of iMic USB audio system. I used the drop-down menus to switch them back.
So watching the youtube video imbedded on a non-youtube site must have changed those settings.
Any idea why that would have happened?
Now, I'm wondering if the little iMic USB audio system which converts the digital signal to analog line level out is actually a little midi device? Well, maybe not since there is no midi plug involved. I have seen that setting (44.0 Khz) relating to CDs I think. I'm guessing that 44.0 Khz and 44100.0 hz are very close to being exactly the same thing.
So does 44.0 Khz = line level (analog audio)?
Anyway, BD, Thanks again for solving my problem and doing it so quickly. What a relief!
Have a great 4th of July holiday weekend,
