ITunes doesn't read 5.1 surround sound

I bought a Mac Mini after an Apple TV because it isn't so open I'd like.
I bought many HD TV Show like Grey's Anatomy.
In France the price is 60€ for the season.
I plug my Mac Mini on my receiver with an optical cable.
And I was surprised when I saw iTunes doesn't read the 5.1 surround sound.
I call the Apple Support Center, and they confirm iTunes can read only Stereo sound.
But, when I read the 5.1 surround sound on my Apple TV, it works very well.
So, II was very angry because after buying a TV show at 60 €, I realized that I could not read the surround sound directly with iTunes.
Gentlemen developers eagerly await an update steep iTunes.

I just bought some Lost episodes... when i select 5.1 in iTunes my speakers play an horrible sound...
I'm angry to because i bought them especially to enjoy the surround sound.
I'm using a Macmini late 2009 (which remplace my old Apple tv) with an optical cable...

I had a problem a couple of months ago when iPhotos suddenly rearranged the order of my Events (Why won't iPhoto let me arrange my photos?) . I was told "Use albums not events - events are not a good way to organize - albums and folder are designed for organisation and are very flexible".
Haha! I should have paid attention and read between the lines! My iPhotos were highly organised groupings - not according to date but the way I wanted them - and it was so easy to do! I see now that if I had them all in albums, as per the Apple Apologist suggestion, I wouldn't have this unholy mess I have been left with just to make iPhone & iCloud users happy. I am now going through Photos and making Albums (of what used to be in my Events) ... maybe I'll get this finished before they do another non user friendly update!

What have you tried so far in terms of troubleshooting this issue? Are you plugging the iPod into a high powered USB 2.0 port on the back of your PC? Have you tried a different USB cable?
What happens if you try to reset the device with it still connected to the PC?

Qucktime and iTunes Can't Play 5.1 Surround Sound

So I undarstand qicktime is used to adjust iTunes audio and in the control panel of the qicktime there is an option for 5.1 sound. However when I click this option (5.1 sound) I still get stereo sound out of my two front speakers while other speakers remain quiet.
Does anyone know the way to fix this?
Oh and my WMP plays my music in full 5.1 surround sound so it's qicktime that's not working properly.

well a lot of stuff on HBO is 5.1 like true blood was, so if you have hbo on demand look for some true blood episodes, they should show (when you click on info) the DD logo. I can't think of much more other than the movie stations off the top of my head. I'll check tomorrow for some, and then you can try it, and if it doesn't work you can look at some of your settings on your revceiver. Randy was right - fios doesn't alter the sound that comes from the stations, so if it is delivered in 5.1 then you should get it.

Itunes doesn`t read half of my id3 tags

Hi,
I am stuck with a problem with itunes.
In the music library, itunes only writes half of my tracks with the id3 tags. All of my songs are mp3s. Every single id3 tag of all my songs gets recognized in winamp, wmp, or in the windows file browser.
But Itunes doesn`t!!!! Even if I click on the songfile, and go on information, it shows my art cover, but not the id3 tag!!
About 6 months ago when I installed itunes, all my tracks did get recognized, but after (i guess) 2 months, half of my songs were unwritten.
I did several updates since then, but no changes.
Now with the new Version 7, I even deleted the database who stores all the information, created a new music library, still doesn`t recognize it.
Winamp - new library - recognizes every single id3 tag.
Any Ideas??
Would need to update my ipod, but i don`t want to plug it in now, as it probably would **** up my library on the ipod.
If someone wants I can send you a mp3 file, which doesn`t get recognized, I just can`t find anything.

It could be that the tags are corrupt or do not strictly follow the ID3 standard.
You might try an ID3 tag editor and convert the tags to an newer ID3 version. Maybe that'll fix any tag problems.

Try the iTunes "Transfer Purchases" menu item. This will transfer music purchased through iTunes on your iPhone to your computer.

ITunes doesn´t read iPod

I switches my iPod to don´t synchronize and now iToons doesn´t read the iPod. I have Windows XP and it cannot open and it cannot eject it safely. iThink the iPod was formated for mac.

Interestingly it works in another PC using Itunes 6.0.4 so it must be a problem with the PC or the Itunes install. I've tried removing Itunes with the control panel and reinstalling it with no difference, but it remembers all of the settings, which seems odd to me. Surely this means it isn't completely uninstalling, how do I make sure that I'm completely removing the install?

ITunes doesn't read ID3 tags properly on import

today I've added ID3 tags to all my mp3 files, so that they will look better in iTunes and my iPod. I have added information for "title", "artist", "album" and "track #" in ID3v1 and ID3v2.3.
Now, when I import these files to iTunes, the ID3 information is read only partly or not at all. This means, some tracks show all information, some only show title and artist, some do not show anything at all.
I edited all the ID3 tags with the same software, which makes it even more mysterious. The software was implemented by myself in C#. To edit the ID3 tags, I used the library UltraID3Lib. I don't think that something is wrong with my software because the ID3 tags are displayed properly in Winamp without any problems.
I have also already tried the option in iTunes to convert the ID3 tags, but this also only yields strange results: If I select "none" as ID3 version, iTunes obviously imports the information from the ID3v1 tags, but it deletes the ID3v2 tag at the same time, so that titles and albums are cut down to 30 characters. If I choose other options, nothing changes.
Does anybody have an idea how to solve this problem? Or can someone maybe explain this "convert ID3 tag" option? It doesn't really make sense to me...

As far as I know (and it may not be very far), iTunes does use standard ID3 tags for most things. The XML file stores info on ratings, playlists, playcounts and other iTunes specific information for use by other applicaitons. iTunes itself doesn't use the XML file but rather the iTunes Library.itl file.
It's possilble to do multiple file tag editing in iTunes for things like artist, album, year, etc. I would say, go with whatever works for you. It just seemed as if what you were doing wasn't working. Perhaps the other suggestion will solve you're problem.

this is the second time my ipod does it. My ipod just turns off. Last time I found the ipod like that i tried turning it off and hard resetting it also and nothing happens. I also tried connecting it to itunes and itunes cant read it. yet, after like an hour i tried again to reset it and it worked. but this time i did the same thing and it wont turn on..

Try:
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try on another computer
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

I can't play iTunes Movies in 5.1 surround on my surround sound system

I like to download iTunes movies to my MacMini from iTunes store. Recently I gave up doing so because I can't play iTunes movies in 5.1 surround on my surround system. My MacMini is connected to my Marantz 6007 SR via HDMI cable. However I can get DTS or 5.1 surround sound from my system with other players such as VLC player.
How can I fix this problem as I really want to buy or rent movies from iTunes store?

It sounds like your Mac Mini is able to output 5.1 audio to your surround sound receiver, but iTunes purchases do not play in surround sound.
When playing iTunes purchases, first see if iTunes is set to output the movie you're playing in surround sound:
Set up iTunes to play content in surround sound
Movies you purchased or rented from the iTunes Store may have stereo audio and digital surround sound tracks. ...
In iTunes, click the Speech Bubble icon to view your audio choices, such as English (Surround). If the surround sound choice is dimmed or the icon doesn't appear, make sure you are using the appropriate hardware and that the content is encoded with digital surround sound.

My itouch is frozen on the itunes sign with the charger cord going into it. I have tried to restart hold down the two buttons but nothing changes. When I plug it into itunes it doesn't read it and I ran that test and nothing changes...HELP PLEASE!

Put your phone in DFU mode. Connect it to itunes and hold down the power and home buttons at the same time for ten seconds. Then while keeping the home button pressed let go of the power button. Keep holding until a message pops up saying your phone is in recovery mode. Then sync it back up. This will erase everything from ipod and restore it back from itunes.

Surround Sound to Stereo

I just bought a cheaper sound bar for my apple tv. Movies and tv shows having stereo playback work great but anything that has surround sound playback does not. My question is how can i change all my movies in itunes to playback stereo and not surround sound?

Have you tried adjusting the "Audio Out" and the "Dolby Digital" settings in settings > audio and video? It may be worth trying several combinations of these settings, although typically it is the "Dolby Digital" setting that causes most problems for users.

ITunes won't read my iPod Classic, but Windows does; tried many solutions!

I wasn't sure whether this post belonged in the iPod forum or the iTunes forum as the matter concerns both, so I decided to post in both forums. My apologies if this is 'spammy'. (iPod forum is a little old anyway).
I just dug up my 6 year old iPod Classic from the grave and would like to start using it again as my HTC's headphone jack is extremely faulty lately. My iPod Classic is completely empty - I have no music, no photos, nor videos on it.
My problem is that on my Windows 8 Laptop, Windows is able to read the iPod, however, iTunes cannot. I went over to the Support page and tried almost every recommended solution out there, and nothing seems to work.
I have:
Tried different USB ports
Performed a Restore/Recovery after selecting 'Format' from Windows ExplorerIt is interesting to note that, whilst iTunes doesn't read the iPod normally, it did show up in the button (Spotlight button?) next to the iTunes button when performing a Restore
Uninstalled and Reinstalled every Apple application and program from my Laptop, including iTunes, Mobile Support, Bonjour, and more, and also, deleting any remaining folders related to Apple.
I have tried alternatives to iTunes such as CopyTrans and Syncios, but all seem to fail.
Troubleshooted my iPod various times
Restarted any Apple related Service as well as any Processes from Task Manager
Searched for Updates on Device manager -> Apple Driver and everything is up to date
It's worth pointing out that:
When opening the iPod folder in Windows Explorer (after enabling Hidden Folders), inside the 'iPod_Control' folder, there is no 'Music' folder; not sure if this is intentional or simply because there is no music file on my iPod.
The Software Version (which displays prior selecting 'Restore') is 2.0.1. If this is outdated, the option to Update Software is greyed out and unavailable.
My iTunes is up to date.
iTunes does tend to freeze up when attempting to read the device, but is perfectly fine after a while, it just does not display the device (implying it must have failed to detect it).
It is the first time using iTunes on this laptop (laptop is 4 months old), and has never had an Apple Device connected to it before.
iPod and iTunes used to work fine 6 years ago on a different PC which is no longer at me.
If anyone could shed some light on this problem, I would greatly appreciate it. Please do not hesitate for any further information related to both iPod or Laptop.

I heard that a large number of Reallocs is bad; not sure if 56 qualifies as a large number. Would this somehow interfere with iTunes not being able to read the iPod?
EDIT: Your instructions say to attempt another Diagnostics after updating however my iPod will not update past 2.0.1 (I believe that is the last update that came out for iPod Classics), unless you'd like me to recover/restore it and then try again.

The subject line says that you are having trouble with iTunes reading a DVD (not surprising as iTunes doesn't read DVDs). However, the body of you post says that you're having trouble with a CD. Can you clarify?

Itunes can't read my iphone

I have the problem that itunes doesn't read my iphone5s. When I plug it in, my iphone5s makes the noise that it is plug in, but it doesn't appear on itunes and the iphone doesn't appear in Windows Explorer.
I have tried the following:
- I have the latest version of iTunes 11.1.5.5.
- I have plugged in other iphones (my wifes) and ipads (x3), all these work CORRECTLY, only my iphone doesn't.
- I have checked the cord and plugged it into the computer, all working ok. ( I have tried other USB ports, problem persists )
- In 'Services' I have turned off and then restarted 'Apple Mobile Device', the problem persists.
- I have used the iphone5s on my computer many times before and it worked ok.
- I have searched help in this Apple forum and didn't find anything relating to my particular problem (I have found iTunes won't find iphone, but never one that said iTunes won't find a particular iphone, but will find everything else).
The only thing I have not done yet is reinstall iTunes.
Any other ideas before I do that?

I tried again just now and my wife's iphone connected ok to iTunes. I then unplugged hers and plugged mine in and nothing.
I will go back to the Apple store directly because I am not getting any help online.
My iphone is already a 5s replacement because my first one was not working correctly. If I go back and they tell me this one is not working and needs to be replaced, I won't be happy.
