ITunes doesn't recognise iPhone after switching back from Windows 7

Hi all,
I've searched Google and this message board for this issue, but haven't found any mention of it.
Here's the problem:
I have Windows 7 installed on a boot camp partition. Any time I switch into Windows 7 and then back to Mac OS X (latest version of Snow Leopard) iTunes (both 9 and 10) refuses to recognise my iPhone, meaning I can't sync or transfer any files to my iPhone 4.
The only way I've found to solve the problem is to reinstall iTunes, which is really not a good solution. Rebooting into OS X from OS X doesn't work either.
Has anyone else come across this issue and/or found a fix for it?
I don't use iTunes on Windows 7, or even have it installed (although I did try installing it to fix this problem, and that didn't work either)
Any help appreciated!
Thanks
Paul

Hello again, GiannisFromAthens.
At this point, considering that the primary issue is with getting the Windows update resolved, we need to get that taken care of first. To do so you may need to consult Microsoft, or whoever supports the installation of Windows on your computer, for more troubleshooting to resolve it.
Once that is resolved, if you are still experiencing the issue, you may find better information by using another of Apple's Support resources at https://expresslane.apple.com/GetProductGroupList.action for a more hands on response.
Cheers,
Pedro D.

switch back from windows 7 to ios

Presumably you mean back to OSX.
You can either locate the Bootcamp utility in the system tray and click it and choose reboot to OSX or you can reboot and hold the Alt key after the chime and select Macintosh HD.

  • TS1591 Itunes doesn't recognise iphone 5s on iMac

All of a sudden my iTunes won't regognise my iPhone 5s.  It's a 64g & almost full, but there's almost a gig spare.  I backed it up this morning and it said it was all good in iTunes, but iPhoto froze mid way through the upload so I force quit it.  Not too keen on restoring to factory settings.  Anyone have any advice?  Could it be from downloading a dodgy app or visiting a dodgy site?

Try plugging in to a different USB port next.
After trying that try uninstalling your iTunes then reinstalling. There's like 6 components to iTunes and they have to be deleted in a specific order. Use this article to do so correctly http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925
After deleting download only from apple.com/iTunes to ensure its the latest version.

  • ITunes doesn't recognise iPod after restore: help please?

I've just restored, done the connect to power instead of pc (windows based), is reconnected to usb 2 port, but iTunes isn't showing any screen to resetup my iPod, and iPod saying "do not disconnect". What now? Could it be automatically updating without showing in iTunes? This all came about when I tried to do an update of software, which after download & updating pc, only showed "restore" in the iPod updater window.
    HELP!

    Why delete them?
    Have you tried here:

    I would start here:

  • New laptop doesn't see iPhone after user import from old laptop

Transferred my user account from my MacBook to new MacBook Pro, and now the MBP doesn't see my iPhone. Anyone else have this issue and know the solution? I don't mind wiping and restoring the iPhone. (Though I'd prefer not to.)
BTW - deleted my account and all files from the MacBook prior to verifying my iPhone works on the new MacBook Pro. So I can't "go back" to my old machine.

Once again, I answer my own question... Leaving the iPhone plugged in during a restart worked.

Reinstalling Lion/Mountain Lion Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • ITunes doesn't recognise my iPhone but my PC does

I've just updated iTunes but when I connect my iPhone 3GS, iTunes doesn't recognise it but my laptop does. Does anyone know why and what to do to correct it?

Typical, no one has answered your question.
It happened to me & now again. Last time I found my computer had a virus & after I connect up to ITunes it was working slower then the next time I connected ITunes wouldnt reconise my phone, then the nes time I did it the computer or ITunes shut down my phone & I couldnt turn it on.
My solution: Either roll back or reformat your computer.

  • Need to restore iphone 5 but itunes doesn't recognise it

    Hi
I tried to update my iphone 5 to the latest iOS7 using iTunes but I got error message 4005. My phone is stuck on the connect to iTunes screen and I understand that I need to restore it to factory settings and can do this using iTunes. But when I plug my iphone into my pc (HP notebook, windows 7) iTunes doesn't recognise it. Apparently it should recognise that my phone is in recovery mode and ask if I want to restore it. This does not happen. I have tried the suggestions of many people with a similar problem in the support community but none of the solutions has worked for me and I have followed the resolution steps on the Apple support pages but have had no luck there either. I can see my iphone is in recovery mode in device manager on the pc, iTunes is up to date, I have uninstalled and re-installed iTunes according to Apple instructions, I have re-started the apple mobile device service, I am using USB 2.0 port not USB 3.0 and directly to the computer not via a hub.
If anyone can provide any help and useful suggestions on this I would really appreciate it! Thanks!

    Hey bron_cross,
Wow, Superb troubleshooting so far! Usually for the symptoms you have described, I recommend the sub-step titled “If the device is not recognized while in Recovery Mode” located in Step 5 of this article:
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1538
However, it seems like you have exhausted all of the suggestions in that step. Did you happen to move on to Step 6: Check for third-party software conflicts? If not, here is the excerpt:
Certain phone and cellular device connectivity software from vendors such as Samsung, Nokia, Bora, Novatel, Sony, Android, LG, Sierra, Huawei, Pantech, or Motorola may cause your device not to be recognized. If you have such software on your computer:
    1. Uninstall the phone or cellular connectivity software temporarily, and test.  Contact the manufacturer of this software for assistance in doing this. If you use the third-party phone or cellular device for your Internet connection, try connecting to an alternate network using Wi-Fi or Ethernet.
    2. Remove iTunes and all related Apple software by following this article (for Windows XP), or this article (for Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8).
    3. After reinstalling iTunes, test the device.
    4. If you still need your third-party phone or cellular connectivity software that was removed, reinstall this software and test your device to ensure it still functions with iTunes. Contact the vendor of your phone connectivity software if the issue returns.
Also, third-party security software may conflict with iOS devices connecting to iTunes. Follow this article to troubleshoot issues that may be caused by your security software. After resolving any issues you may have with your security software, you may need to try the steps in this article again.
    Thanks,
    Matt M.

Itunes doesn't recognise my old Ipod Touch - I have attached it to the computer but nothing happens.  How can I update it?

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.
