ITunes doesn't recognize iPod mini

We bought a new computer and the old iPod is not being recognized by iTunes. The iPod displays "Do not disconnect", but iTunes is not updating it. I downloaded the most recent iTunes version. There are no iPod files in the application data folder for iTunes either. iTunes recognized the iPod device once and stated that it was corrupt and it needed to be retored. The restore got an error saying that it couldn't restore; resource not found. What do I try next?

I have the same problem. Mine worked for 2 weeks until it started to show a message "the software required for communicating with the iPod is not installed correctly..." I tried to remove or reinstall iTunes, but it won't allow me (Installshield issues!!!) Help!!!

  • Itunes doesn't recognize Ipod even though Itunes appears!!!!

Itunes doesn't recognize Ipod even though Itunes pops up! I dropped it like 1 foot in the air once and landed on concrete. Now everything's fine until I play a song and it will just skip, freeze or just play a little bit and then skip. I don't think this is the problem but this is getting more wierd. I've tried almost every solution in this site but none of them worked so please, anyone, help me if you have a solution to this problem!!!

When your iPod does not appear in iTunes:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61771
You might want to reset your iPod to prevent any more skipping and freezing. Press and hold the MENU and CENTER buttons - at the same time - until the Apple logo shows. This should take about 6 seconds. Also, you want to do this while your iPod is connected to your computer.

  • ITunes doesn't recognize IPod Nano 7th Generation

ITunes doesn't recognize my IPod Nano 7th Generation. I get a message saying "An IPod has been detected but could not be identified properly". My Windows 7 computer shows the IPod Nano as a removable drive until I launch ITunes at which point it disappears from the list of removable drives. I even disabled my security software (Norton 360 but not Spybot S & D) and it didn't solve the problem. Any suggestions..............Thanks

  • ITunes doesn't recognize iPod since last software update

I updated to iTunes 5.0.1 & iPod 2005-09-23 updater & now when I plug in the iPod w/ USB to my PowerBook G4 running 10.4.2, iTunes doesn't recognize it-- no icon in bottom-right grey area, nor left-hand column-- and the iPod says "Do not disconnect." Which means I'm kinda stuck. Tried restarting, didn't help. Advice? Thanks.

I have the EXACT same problem. Support line suggeste that the iPod updater must have newer software than the iTunes, so I should go to Apple & download the iTunes update. Well, I did, and it didn't do a @#%ing thing to help. I'm NEW to mac & I'm P.O.'ed!!! (paid significantly extra money for iBook compared to Dell, etc since it's supposedly so easy & user-friendly... NOT an impressive start!!!)

  • Itune doesn't recognize ipod shuffle

Itune doesn't recognize my ipod shuffle(first generation). please help me!

I've been searching for days on this kind of thing and always see the same frustration from fellow iTunes/iPod users -- the new version of iTunes won't recognize their iPod. Tonight I saw something that looked so simple that I had to try it, AND IT WORKED.
Press the MENU (not play/pause) and CENTER button and hold until iPod turns off and on again. Plug into your computer and hopefully iTunes will recognize it like it did for me, first time. I was completely blown away, because I had tried everything else for MONTHS!!!
    Good luck to everyone.

Anyone else has this kind of problems?
Please help me, I'm so sick about that!!!

    Problem solved.
I tried to connect ipod to an other pc and it works.
The real problem now is that my pc doesn't work well.

  • Tried restoring iPod, never finished, now iTunes doesn't recognize iPod

i tried to restore my iPod, but then my computer froze midway. Now when i try to plug the iPod into my computer, my iTunes doesn't recognize it and whenever i try to use the updater, it just keeps saying 'Ipod Service Error'. Now i can't put my songs into my iPod and the battery icon/'Do Not Disconnect' logo is stuck in this really traditional fashion, not like the normal font/picture. Does anybody know what i can do?

  • ITunes doesn't recognize IPOD Nano (2nd Gen), but Windows XP does

I'm a longtime happy owner of an IPOD Mini and bought a second Gen IPOD Nano a few months ago that works great. I have two identical P4 Sony Vaios that I back up/clone from one to the other every so often to keep them as identical as possible. It's been some months though since I've backed up/cloned my primary laptop to the secondary, and the 2nd Gen Nano isn't being recognized by ITunes on my primary laptop, only my secondary laptop. However Windows recognizes the Nano just fine on the primary laptop on all 3 USB 2.0 ports (I haven't tried my Mini recently), and I can browse the file system of the Nano, but ITunes just doesn't see it.
As I mentioned, my secondary laptop works just fine with the Nano, both Windows XP AND ITunes recognizes it and can update it, but I don't want to have to use that computer JUST for updating my IPOD, and pretty soon I need to back up my primary laptop to my secondary. I've actually only been holding off on that because I can't get my Nano to be recgonized by ITunes with my primary laptop and don't want to screw them both up. Cloning my secondary laptop to become my primary isn't an option, the file system is many months outdated, I need to get the Nano working with ITunes on my primary laptop.
This is definitely a software/driver/service issue, I can take the hard drive out of my secondary laptop, put it in my primary, and ITunes will recognize the Nano just fine. I can take the hard drive out of my primary laptop, put it in my secondary, and ITunes can't see the Ipod. I've upgraded ITunes twice on the primary laptop in the last few months with no improvement, so that hasn't helped.
I really don't know what else to do at this point, I was under the impression that any drivers needed are installed by ITunes, and as long as Windows recognizes the device (which it does) everything should be fine and ITunes should recognize it. I've checked my services and there is only one IPOD related service that I've found (it's actually called "Ipod Service") and I've confirmed that service is running and starts automatically. I presume that service is needed and isn't a legacy from my IPOD Mini and an old version of ITunes.
If, after digesting the above information, anyone has any suggestions, please let me know. This has gotten to be somewhat annoying.
    Thanks

Nevermind. I uninstalled ITunes completely as well as the IPOD updater program (I think that's what it was basically called) that was installed on my system. I then rebooted, tested the Nano to make sure Windows recognized it, then tested it (successfully) with Winamp and the Winamp IPOD plugin. It was already working properly with Winamp and the IPOD plugin even when ITunes wasn't recognizing it so there was no change there. Once everything checked out I reinstalled the current version of ITunes and it FINALLY recognized the IPOD. It said there was a new software version available for the Nano so I went ahead and allowed it to download and install the update to 1.1. The update went smoothly and once the Nano restarted ITunes again recognized it. No clue what the problem was that created this error condition initially, but perhaps someone else will benefit from this information. I would have thought that reinstalling ITunes at least 3 times, including 2 version upgrades, would have resolved the problem, but it took removing ITunes and the IPOD software completely to resolve it.

  • ITunes no longer recognizes iPod mini

Things with my ipod mini have been going downhill lately. Along with reduced memory (down from 4G to 3.77G last time I checked) and a weaker battery life, then it had when I first bought it. Now for the first time, the ipod is NOT SHOWING UP IN iTUNES! I realise the thing is getting old (almost 2 years) but I'd really rather not replace it yet, until it totally craps out on me and stops working (is that time coming soon?).
When the device was new and I connected it to my PC via the usb port, iTunes would open and the mini would be displayed on the left hand menu. Now it isn't showing up at all, I've given it some time, and it still isn't present. The mini beeped a few times when I first connected it, and the logo showed the cross circe with the "do not disconnect" logo. and then it went to the battery filling, only the graphic does not show the battery filling with the logo "charging" as it used to but instead the battery is 1/4 full and there is no movement in the graphic. Every once in a while it flashes back to the "do not disconnect" and beeps before returning to the battery graphic.
The iPod is of no use to me if I can't update music on it, unless I want to listen to the same songs over and over, but I'd really like to be able to update them, that's what I bought it for. Last time I charged it via the usb port on the computer it had difficulty (it did show up though) and I thought it had to do with my music library finally exceeding the mini's limits. The mini wouldn't charge and instead kept trying to update the libray of music, when it was too much for it to handle. I managed to go around the obstacle by deleting music off of it and dragging new music from my library onto the mini's icon in the menu (then it was in the mini's music.
After that incident I haven't had a need to update music on the mini and I have charged it using outside ports, which have work normally with the mini behaving like it used to and charging completely.
I'm hope my post is understandable, I'm not a very technical person, so my language might be amatuerish. I really would like to enjoy my mini again though so any help is appriciated.
    Thanks, Ashley

Update: I disconnected the mini for a while and just now tried re-connecting it. This time the ipod showed up in the menu after a minute or two. It still doesn't want to charge through the usb, but I can continue to use the wall port for that if I have to. Good news is I can now update my songs again =)

  • Computer/iTunes doesn't recognize iPod.  Can't restore either

Somehow, between syncing my iPod (classic, fifth generation)with iTunes and downloaded latest version of iTunes, my pod self-destructed. I got a brief message to "restore" but since the computer or iTunes doesn't seem to recognize the iPod, I can't do it. I am no longer getting the message. I can't find the iPod in Windows Explorer or Device Manager. When I plug the iPod into the computer, all I get is a completely white screen and an occasional beep-beep. Can I take it to a retailer and have it restored?

  • Itunes doesn't recognise ipod Mini

    hi,
About 4 days ago now, I updated my ipod because it kept on saying I had to when I plugged it in. So I did and now Itunes doesn't recognise it, infact neither does my pc. It worked absolutely fine before I updated it.
When I plug it in my computer the computer displays ''Found New Hardware''. It then says what do you want the wizard to do?
    -Install the software automatically
-Install from a list or specific location.
If I choose either of these it comes up with
''The software you are installing for this hardware has not passed windows logo testing to verify its compatibility with windows XP.''
if you select ''Continue anyway'' it says ''Cannot install this hardware''
I really dont know what to do. This has never happened before, just as soon as I updated my ipod it happened.
    Please Help??????

I wish I could help you. I am experiencing the same problem. There is a problem with the mini and the new updates. Some more paranoid folks are thinking its a scam to get us to buy the new nano. I hope itunes and ipod fix this problem soon!

  • Win/iTunes doesn't recognize iPod + monochrome charger icon, please help

Yesterday, my iPod was fine and now it doesn't seem to work. When I put in my iPod, it goes in, I see the Apple logo and then it goes straight to the monochrome charger icon. iTunes nor Windows recognizes it and when I take it out, the iPod doesn't work at all. Nothing appears. I tried the R's, and nothing. I've had the iPod for about 6 months, I'm hoping the battery didn't expire already... Someone please help me out. If it helps, iTunes 7.0 and I have Windows 2000 and Disk Use was enabled. Thank you.

  • Moving iPod to new PC.  Songs not found.  iTunes doesn't recognize iPod

Actually, it is a new Windows install on the same machine it used to be on. We have a recent back up the iTunes folder but the total size of that is about 900mb. There is about 9mb of content on the iPod though. iTunes doesn't find music and opening the itml.xml file from MD\MM\iTunes shows paths for "unfindable" music being things like:
    C:/Ipod/F05/Nickelback%20-%20How%20you%20remind.mp3
Stuff purchased on iTunes still plays after re-authorization since we just copied the iTunes folder back over in to the new machine.
Keeping the play lists is very important.
    Questions:
    1) How do we get the new "machine" to recognize the ipod as being associated with this one instead of the old install?
    2) How do we pull the music that iTunes in Windows doesn't see anymore back off the iPod and in to the places on the hard drive where iTunes is looking for files?

No, first of all i've got a MacBook not with dual core
I suspect an error with the connection type 'cause at work i receive this kind of problem and at home not.
I solved the problem with the ipod updater yesterday, at home i successfully updated it but today i get a new error message while contacting itunes server:
I cannot process the request, an unknown error occurred on itunes server (error type -206)!
Do you know why?may it depend by the Office server?
    thanks

  • Itunes doesn't recognize ipod, but desktop does

When I plug my 5th generation iPod into my MacBook, the desktop recognizes it, but iTunes doesn't and then iTunes freezes and I have to force-quit it. What is wrong?

You cannot sync music from an iPhone to a computer. It does not support disk mode, as other iPods do. If the music is purchased you can connect the iPhone to iTunes and choose "Transfer Purchases" from the File menu.
