ITunes doesn't recognize valid library files

iTunes library on external NAS hard drive. I can "add to library" individual songs from this external hard drive, however any attempts to select valid iTunes library results in message "An iTunes library file could not be found in the folder "iTunes". Please choose a different folder."
This iTunes library is valid as several Windows XP machines can use it OK.
Upon startup the external hard drive is connected automatically as share, and logged in as user, not guest.

  • Itunes doesn't recognize iPhoto library - a short-term workaround

I'm having the same problem everyone else is - iPhoto has a library full of stuff.  iPhoto 'sees' it, Keynote 'sees' it, Pages 'sees' it - iTunes doesn't!  I have found a quick workaround for those photos I really need to have on my ipad right now!  Export them out of iPhoto into a folder in the Pictures folder.  iTunes lets you sync with iPhoto or photos in another place and it will sync just fine with photos in the folders (i.e., albums) in the Pictures Folder.
Until Apple releases a fix, this seems the simplest process for my need and maybe it'll help someone else in the short term.

  • ITunes doesn't recognize iPod library since I reformatted computer

Hi all. Have mercy on me as I am new at these discussion boards.
I have a wonderful iPod that I really enjoy. My laptop get really slow so I had to reformat it. Once I completed the reformat, I began to reload programs, and put iTunes on right away. I connected my iPod via USB, and it downloaded my purchased songs back onto my laptop, so that was a success.
But iTunes doesn't seem to want to let me do any normal manipulation to my iPod files. For instance, it won't let me copy new songs downloaded to iTunes onto my iPod. It won't let me create new playlists on iTunes, or anything.
I got on Apples support page, and did the first 4 "R's" (didn't want to do the nuclear option of Restore) and that didn't change anything.
Any advice and help the forum community could give me would be most welcomed!

  • ITunes doesn't recognize entire library...

    Hi Everyone,
I recently had a problem with Snow Leopard on my MacBook and ended up having to wipe the partition. I have XP installed through Boot Camp and backed everything up onto an external NTFS formatted drive. I copied my entire iTunes folder to the drive, and now I'm trying to move it back.
The iTunes folder copies just fine, it's around 78GBs and copies the correct amount. I can look through the folder before opening iTunes (I deleted the existing iTunes folder since nothing was in it from the clean install) and all my music, tv shows, etc. is there. Upon opening iTunes everything is listed correctly, but around 3/4s of the songs have the exclamation point next to them asking me to locate the file.
Going back to the iTunes folder under Music shows that most of the media files disappear - I certainly didn't delete them and they were there before iTunes opened.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    -MRCUR

Yes, right after the copy finished I looked through the Music folder (it seems like movies & tv shows are unaffected) and only the As and Bs (of artists) are there. Everything else is gone, but the folder size (of 77.17GB) stays the same throughout the copy and after the files disappear.
That's all very strange isn't it.
I will see if I can do that and re-import all of the music. Is there any way to save my playlists doing so? At this point I don't really care, I'd just rather have the music back on my MacBook.
When you add music to the library in this manner, the playlists are unaffected. The playlists are contained in the library database documents in the itunes folder, which should still be intact. When you add to the library, the library database is updated to reflect new music, but that's it.
That said, if you've tried to play your playlists without the music in the music folder, the playlists may no longer be what they once were.
If you have your library database documents backed up to the external drive you might be able to retrieve them from there if those on your Macbook no longer function. But this would need to happen after you get your music back.
This is tricky stuff that should serve to remind us how important a good backup is.

  • After reinstalling OS X Mavericks, iTunes doesn't recognize my photosphotos...

    Hi, everybody,
After formating my iMac and reinstalling OS X Mavericks, iTunes doesn't recognize my photos. They are there in iPhoto, but when I try to synch them with my iPhone, for example, iTunes shows the Events, but tell that they're empty (but they are not empty!).
Well, this happens only in my user account - in my wife's account, everything is perfect!
I think it's not a problem with file permissions, because I have checked them and they are ok (well, I think they are ok...).
I tried also to rebuild iTunes Library, iPhoto Library and even reinstall iPhoto and iTunes, but nothing worked...
    Please, could anyone help me?

    Hello marchelr
Try the steps in the article below to troubleshooting your issue with syncing photos to your iPhone.
    iTunes: Unable to sync photos

    Resolution
If you encounter any of the above issues or another issue while syncing photos, try the following:
Ensure that you are syncing the device with the computer with which you normally sync photos.
Within iTunes, select the device, then select the Photos pane and turn off Photo syncing.
Sync your device. Important: This will remove all synced photos from your device.
Disconnect your device and update to the latest version of iTunes.
    Remove your iPod photo cache.
    Connect your device to iTunes.
Select the device, then select the Photos pane and turn on Photo syncing.
    Sync your device.

What happens if you go to iTunes > File > Devices, do you get the option to Sync iPhone?
You could try a reinstall of iTunes. OS X Yosemite: Reinstall apps that came with your Mac

is there an EASY way to submit podcasts to the itunes store? i've tried creating podcasts in garageband, then somewhere after wordpress  itunes  doesn't recognize the feed.
my process has been (i am open to suggestions for other free and EASY services/methods):
garageband : create & edit audio. add 1400x1400 image.
    share to itunes.
    drag file to desktop.
upload .m4a file to google drive.
create a link post in wordpress using "podcast" tag & create "podcast" category.
click on "entries rss" in wordpress, which takes me to the rss subscribe page (which is basically just my wordpress address with "/feed" at the end.
    i copy this url.
go to itunes store > then "submit a podcast"
itunes gives me the error message "we had difficulty downloading episodes from your feed."
when i try to subscribe to my podcast in itunes, it does, but gives me no episodes available.
i went back into wordpress and changed settings/ reading settings to : "full text" from "summary"
    still the same error message.
i added a feedburner step after wordpress but got the same errors. i don't think i should have to add feedburner.
wordpress seems to be encapsulating the rss, what am i doing wrong?
this so much easier when you could go directly from garage band to iweb to mobileme; i miss those apple days (also idisk).

if anyone has a super EASY process, i would LOVE to know what it is. EASY, meaning no html and also free. there are many free online storage systems available, many of which i currently use. the above process was just me trying to figure it out, if you have an easier method, please share. thank you so much!

There may be third-party software that modifies your default packet size in Windows by inserting a TcpWindowSize entry into your registry. Your default packet size being set incorrectly can cause these errors. Contact the manufacturer of the software that installed the packet size modification for assistance or follow this article by Microsoft: How to reset Internet Protocol (TCP/IP).

Verify that communication to albert.apple.com or photos.apple.com is not blocked by a firewall, or other Internet security setting.
Discard the .ipsw file, open iTunes and attempt to download the update again. See the steps under Advanced Steps > Rename, move, or delete the iOS software file (.ipsw) below for file locations.

Let's try a standalone Apple Mobile Device Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of why it's not installing under normal conditions.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR:
    http://www.rarlab.com/
Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").
Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi (or AppleMobileDeviceSupport64.msi) to do a standalone AMDS install.
(If it offers you the choice to remove or repair, choose "Remove", and if the uninstall goes through successfully, see if you can reinstall by doubleclicking the AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi again.)
Does it install (or uninstall and then reinstall) properly for you? If so, can you get a normal iTunes install to go through properly now?
If instead you get an error message during the install (or uninstall), let us know what it says. (Precise text, please.)

  • Can't burn CD - iTunes doesn't recognize CDs

I used to be able to burn CDs fine with iTunes. For the past month or so, when I try to burn a CD, iTunes doesn't recognize it and asks me repeatedly to insert a new CD. I am now unable to burn any CDs.
I can play a CD fine and have also tried different CD brands. Dell tells me this is a problem with iTunes but offers no real solution.
    Can anyone please help?
    Thanks
    Dell   Windows XP

Sounds as if you are burning an MP3 CD, correct?
I right clicked and said to convert to MP3 and it showed it doing it but when I go to Info the song still says it is ACC.
iTunes will add another copy in MP3 format. You need to add this new MP3 copy to your playlist and delete the AAC file from your playlist.
can't burn because it is a ACC file
That would be AAC, not ACC.

  • ITunes doesn't recognize either of my iPods

I downloaded the latest update recently and since then iTunes doesn't recognize either of my two iPod touches (4th gen), even though the computer does. My iPad (1st gen) is still recognized normally. I tried uninstalling iTunes and reinstalling it several times, and that didn't work. The iPods are recognized by iTunes on other computers. The computer in question runs windows 8.1, if that makes a difference. From the look of these forums it looks like I'm not the only one who has this problem. Please help.
