ITunes doesn't see new iPod nano and creates 'iPod' folders on the Desktop

My mom got a new 5th Gen Nano. When it is connected to my parents' iMac (G5 with built in iSight running Leopard), iTunes doesn't see it. The strange thing is that the iPod itself goes through the normal synching procedures about every 30 seconds, and every time it happens, it creates a new 'iPod' folder on the desktop. The really strange thing is that each folder is actually a mounted volume that cannot be ejected and the only way to remove them is to reboot the system. Right now, there are 11 of those folders on the desktop (I am connected via screen sharing in iChat.
Any idea what to do about this one?

So, I found out how to fix this issue. In "My Computer" right click on the iPod and format it. I chose to format it using FAT and Default allocation size. After that, I opened iTunes and it recognized my iPod Shuffle. It said it wasn't formatted properly but gave me the option to restore it to factory defaults which fixed everything. Way to go Self. Thank you. You're Welcome

  • 2 Ipods nano and 2 Ipods shuffle broken running

I have 2 Ipods nano and 2 Ipods shuffle and all of them stopped working. These Ipods were bought to running and two of them I bought 3 months ago. What can Apple do to help me? Because I won't buy from you anymore if this keeps happening, its ridiculous. The Ipods are proper for running, they had to have some protection to humidity, I didn't throw water on them. They stopped working on the day after the running. I don't know what to do. Its to delicate. I spent 500 USD because here in Brazil is expensive and it doesn't work anymore!

by guess a format of C: will work, but is there any other way something got corrupt in XP that prevents the mounting of external media.  iPod, Flash, Ext HD, all fail.  Its the PC or something with the PC.
    Thanks

  • Well, I have an old ipod Nano, and I wanted to transfer the music to my new computer. The library isn't synced up, so is there a way to do it?

I have an old Ipod nano...3rd gen, and I have alot of songs that are on my ipod, not in my library, and I was wondering if there was a way to get those songs on my computer without them being erased. Trying to get them on my iPod touch,

  • ITunes doesn't see new added photos in iPhoto Album

    Hello:
Am attempting to sync an iPhoto Album using iTunes on a iMac, 10.7.2 to an iP4 running iOS 5.1  Have successfully sync'ed this iPhoto Album to the iP4 for some time... Now, in iTunes, the number of photos in the Album does not agree with the count in iPhoto; iTunes does not see the photos I added in iPhoto today; so the sync doesn't put them on the phone. (Have used at least two methods to add these to the Album in iPhoto; it consistently shows them added and photo count incremented...)
    Any suggestions/help appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

OK...for anyone having this problem...  It seems that iMac/iPhoto may save image items with image extensions as "documents", not with a .jpg / image extension.  Even when I download them and use the "save as image..." menu choice.
Sorry for pulling the trigger on this so quickly, but importing an image using "save as image" led me to believe that Mac OS and iPhoto would tag it as such...it may not...in spite of the fact that iPhoto displays it as an image and recognizes it.
    Regards.

  • I have an ipod nano and I want to change the apple id on it.  Can I do that if so how?

When I was younger I got an iPod Nano, I didn't have an apple id so my cousin installed her apple id on my ipod. Now I have an ipod touch so I have another apple id that I want to use on my old iPod nano.  Can I change my apple id on my nano so that I can add more music on it?

Your iPods aren't tied to Apple IDs, but iTunes libraries.
Are you trying to sync the Nano to a new PC or Mac and iTunes library? If so, your iPod is designed to sync with only one iTunes library at a time.  It will recognize the iTunes library on the PC or Mac as a new library.  If you sync the iPod with this new library, all content will be erased from the iPod and replaced with what is in the new library.  So what you will want to do is copy everything from the iPod to your new iTunes library on your PC or Mac first.

  • IPod nano and BMW iPod adaptor?

Will the iPod nano connect to the BMW iPod adaptor directly or via an adaptor?
    Thanks
    Tony

It should connect directly. From what I have seen, the iPod your BMW adapter uses the dock connector, which is on the iPod nanos (1G and 2G).

  • ITunes doesn't see new iPhone

When I plugin my new iPhone to my computer to sync it to my music, I don't "see" the iPhone listed anywhere.  I have two different apple id's and have tried both, but still can't get the phone to be recognized.  Any ideas?

    Hi Princevillemac,
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities!
It sounds like you may be unsure how to sync the iPhone or it isn't showing up in iTunes correctly. The first article linked below will walk you through the syncing process. And, the second article will help if the iPhone isn't being recognized correctly.
iOS: Syncing your data with iTunes
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1386
    Sync using USB
    Open iTunes.
Connect the iOS device to your computer using the included USB cable.
Click the Device button in the upper-right corner. (If viewing the iTunes Store, click the Library button first.) If you don't see your device, you may need to hide the sidebar. Choose View > Hide Sidebar.
Some tabs may not appear if you don't have the corresponding content in your library. For example, if you don't have any podcasts in your library, the Podcast tab won't appear.
Click Apply, in the lower-right corner of the screen, to sync.

  • ITunes doesn't see new iPhone for restore -- can I use recovery mode?

I am trying to upgrade 3G/iOS3.0->3GS/iOS4 on a Windows XP box with latest iTunes 9.2. I have backed up (and synched, but who cares) my old phone (3G). I expect, per various docs, that when I plug in the new (3GS) it will ask me to set up new, or restore, but instead it goes through some long registration dance (even though I've asked NOT to do this), which when I cancel out of (or even when I don't), I end up with the new (connected) phone not appearing in iTunes. I don't know what's going on, but I wonder, can I just bypass all this by putting the new phone in recovery mode and then doing the restore, or will that trash the OS as well (which would be bad, bcs the old phone is on 3.0, and the new one is on 4.0, so I don't really want the old phone's OS overwriting the new one! -- I guess I don't understand recovery mode, so I'm afraid of it.)

Update: Actually, I let the scary registration song-and-dance go through and it seems to have done the right thing (or, at least it's doing it as we speak...I'm sure you'll hear a loud scream if it fails!) But my question stands: Could I have don't this by putting the new phone into recovery mode and done the restore that way, or would that have done something untoward?
    Give yourself a solved!!!!! LOL
And yes, Apple forces you to go through the registration process. It is what it is.
As for your issue on recovery vs. restore, I'm not sure what you mean. Aren't they essentially the same thing?

  • We have 2 ipod nanos and 1 ipod with video--Can we share songs?

Me, my husband and my son all have ipods. We have 3 different computers, each with a separate ipod account. Can I plug my nano into my husband's laptop and update my ipod with his songs, and can he plug his into my pc and get my songs? He pays for all of the music, so it would be great if we could share all of the songs.
What would be the best way to handle this situation?

    See:
Recovering your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device: Apple Support Communities
Basically you will have to transfer its contents to the new computer and then restore the iPod and then resync. An iPod can only sync to one iTunes library.
BTW you posted in the iPod touch forum.
