ITunes doesn't see photos from iPhoto

It used to work OK, but now when I connect the iPhone (3G), iTunes launches (iPhoto too), starts syncing (uploads all the music again!), but the photo section says that the albums I have selected do not contain any photos.
I deleted albums, created new albums (in iPhoto) rebuilt the library in iPhoto, but still no update in iTunes.
Both iTunes and iPhoto files/data are held on an external file server, but I can see all files in each application.
This seemed to start happening after a full reset of the phone.
Any ideas?
Thanks
Adam

This could be a problem with the albumdata.xml file in your iPhoto Library Folder. Quit iPhoto and remove the file from the iPhoto Library Folder, then launch iPhoto. It will recreate the file.
If that doesn't work:
Remove any non-ascii characters in Keywords, Album or Photo titles - basically anything that's not a- z and 0 - 9. This includes &.
If that doesn't work then read this thread

  • IPhoto doesn't see photos from my iPhone

This problem just started happening a few weeks ago --
    First, the hardware --
An older MacMini that is NOT upgraded to Lion because it is single core (and hence is not connected to iCloud)
    iPhoto '11, version 9.2.1
    iPhone 4S with OS5.01
    Now, the problem --
iPhoto is not recognizing any new photos I take.  The photos are on the phone in the camera roll and are uploading to photostream but that does me no good since I don't have iCloud on my computer (because I don't have Lion).  And iPhoto is recognizing that my iPhone is connected via USB -- it just says there are no photos (new or old) on it.  Image capture is the same -- sees the device but doesn't see the photos.
When did this start?  I'm not sure -- either (a) when I upgraded from my 3GS, which was running OS5, to the 4S OR (b) when I upgraded the 4S to 5.01.
In any event, I really want to get my photos from my phone to iPhoto -- after all, one of the selling points of the 4S was how great the camera is.  Well, if I can't download the photos to my computer, what good is it?
    Help anyone?

Computer sees the iphone, it just doesn't see the photos. This happened once before and I spent more than an hour with tech support fixing it - a real pain..... I'm hoping there is a quicker fix.

  • "Open iPhoto 5 or higher to see photos from iPhoto Library in this list" ??

This is a huge problem because I was in the middle of making a slideshow and then all of a sudden when I tried to choose a photo to put in the slideshow, it said "Open iPhoto 5 or higher to see your photos from your iPhoto Library in this list."
The problem is, is that I'm using iPhoto 6.0.6 and that's definitely higher than iPhoto 5, if I'm not mistaken. I'm trying to upload a video on my facebook profile and it says the same thing. What do I do?
This is what it looks like:

Two common causes of this issue:
Is there a photo cd in your disk drive. If so, eject it and try again.
Otherwise this can be a symptom of a damaged database:
Try these in order - from best option on down...
    1. Do you have an up-to-date back up? If so, try copy the library6.iphoto file from the back up to the iPhoto Library allowing it to overwrite the damaged file.
    2. Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
    3. If neither of these work then you'll need to create and populate a new library.
To create and populate a new library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same Rolls and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, modified versions, books, calendars etc.
Move the iPhoto Library to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual Roll Folders to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.

  • Itunes doesn't see all my iphoto photos

I noticed that I checked "sync all photos, events, and albums" in my preferences in iTunes (10, Snow Leopard) but not all photos sync to my iPad.  It's driving me crazy!

Make sure that in itunes you have chosen the folder above the others So if folder oare in my pictures folder then choose 'my Pictures" not the individual folders within.

  • ITunes can't see photos in iPhoto albums

    Hi everybody,
I've just got my iPad yesterday and I'm loving it.
Alas, I can't seem to sync my iPhoto albums. They display in iTunes correctly, they all have photos in (in iPhoto) but when I select them to sync across, it states that there are zero photos in the albums.
Its also the same thing with my iPhone as well. I've the 3G model and can't sync photos to that either.
    Any ideas?
I've already tried deleting the iPod cache within the iPhoto folder in the hope that it would rebuild itself.
I've also tried creating a new album, and put photos in, but iTunes can't even see this, despite restarting my computer.
It seems that iTunes is displaying the albums, but not seeing the photos at all.
If anybody could help, that would be fantastic.
    Cheers
    Adrian
PS... I'm running a new 15" MacBook Pro, with Snow Leopard, latest version of iLife, with everything clean after a full new reinstall last week.

What is the format of the photos?

  • I created folders in iphoto on my imac, synch using itunes and selected all photos from iphoto but those albums don't show up...most my albums do but a few don't!??

    I have a new iMac and I'm a new mac user....I have an iphone5..and ipad2.
I have created folders on the imac in iphoto.
I am synching the ipad and iphone with mac using itunes...selecting all photos, 3,500+ and although all the pictures may be sharing on all devices, the folders aren't.
I have created several folders and copied pictures into those folders and they look fine while in iphoto....but I can't get the to synch into ipad and iphone using itunes.

Folders in iPhoto do not contain photos. Albums and Events do. Folders can contain albums, but not photos on their own.
    So, do you mean Albums?

  • When using time machine with external hardrive to backup, some music items from iTunes and some photos from iPhoto do not transfer to backup hardrive.  What am I ding wrong?  Using latest version of mountain lion.

When I use time machine with my external harddrive to back up computer, some music from iTunes library, and some photos from iPhoto library are missing when I check backup disk.  I am using latest version of mountain lion.  Am I doing something wrong?

First, Time Machine doesn't completely back up the iPhoto library while iPhoto is running. Make sure you quit iPhoto after making any changes to allow a backup to take place.
This simple procedure will clear your Time Machine settings, including both overt and hidden exclusions. If you have a long exclusion list that can't be recreated easily, you may prefer a more complicated procedure that preserves the exclusion list. In that case, ask for instructions. Otherwise, do as follows.
Triple-click the line below to select it:
    /Library/Preferences/com.apple.TimeMachine.plist
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
    Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu. A Finder window should open with a file selected. Copy it to the Desktop. Then move it (the original, not the copy) to the Trash. You'll be prompted for your administrator password. Reboot, recreate your settings in the Time Machine preference pane, and run a backup to test. If TM now performs as expected, delete the file you copied to the Desktop.

I am having a problem when I try to select a photo or itunes song in Imovie or other programs. I get a window with grey lettering that says: "Open Itunes to populate this list" or "Open iphoto to see photos from your iPhoto library in this list.  I have tried relaunching programs and nothing appears. Seemed to start happening a while back after one of my system upgrades.

After a a lengthy conversation with Apple Tech. ($20), my problem seems to be solves. The Iphoto problem solved by trashing the plist file. The Itunes was more involved. We had to create a new Itunes folder and import the files into the new folder; and then import the playlists.

  • ITunes doesn't "see" iPhoto and can't sync photos, albums or events.

When I connect my iPod Video 30Gb, iTunes launches like a champ.
Clicking on the Photo tab within the iPod setting screen displays a dimmed reference to iPhoto.
Enabling this option fails to display any of the 300+ events nor any photos.
In fact, the screen says at the bottom "Coping photos from iPhoto requires iPhoto 4.0.3 or later.
    I have:
    iPhoto 7.0.2 (341) (part of iLife '08)
    iTunes 7.4.2 (4)
    Mac 10.4.10
I've already rebuilt the albumdata.xml file inside the iPhoto package. No luck.
I have iPhoto Library Manager (great tool, btw) and have:
checked permissions - all are read & write even though the iPhoto Library is on a permissions free drive.
created a new Library - no change
It is as if iTunes thinks I have an old copy of iPhoto. Before I reinstall iPhoto and/or iTunes .... thoughts?

I was having a similar problem after updating to iLife '08 and Leopard. No matter what I did in iPhoto (creating new albums or deleting old ones), iTunes always showed my old iPhoto album list and all were empty. I finally deleted albumdata.xml and restarted iPhoto and iTunes and violå, iTunes suddenly showed the correct (current) iPhoto album list.

    1. You did not get an error message telling you that your iPhoto library was getting full. You got a message telling you that your HD was getting full, right?
OS X needs about 10 gigs of hard drive space for normal OS operations - things like virtual memory, temporary files and so on.
Without this space your Mac will slow down as the OS hunts for space on the disk, files will be fragmented, also slowing things down, apps will crash and the risk of data corruption - that is damage to your files, photos, music - increases exponentially.
Your first priority is to make more space on that HD. Nothing else can be done until you do.
Purchase an external HD and move your Photos and Music to it. Both iPhoto and iTunes can run perfectly well with the Library on an external disk.
Your Library has been damaged from being run on an overfull disk.
How much free space on it now?

When i try to sync photos from iPhoto to my iPad using iTunes,  the "Selected Folders" option is greyed out with only the "All Folders" option available, how do i change this?

I add the keyword 'sync' to any photos I want added to the iPhone/iPad.
Then, during the regular process of syncing the iPhone/iPad with my computer (mac), the photos with that keyword would be copied onto the iPhone, iPad.
I've been doing it this way ever since I was shown how to; ie after I got my iPhone 2 years ago. And every time the process worked - until the last few weeks. Suddenly it doesn't do it any more.
I believe I have upgraded software (either iTunes or iPhoto or both) during this period. I try to keep my software updated but have noticed previously that the new version often is disappointing.
I've not tended to use Smart albums much.

  • Is there a way to use the photos from iphoto in a collage like the itunes artwork screensaver?

is there a way to use the photos from iphoto in a collage like the itunes artwork screensaver?

Yes except i would like it to look like the itunes album artwork screen saver does.  the itunes album artwork screen saver shows a bunch of squares and when one of the boxes changes it spins and goes to the next album artwork
what you have indicated above is kind of like a slide show where it shows you one of your pictures and zooms out to show you a collage version of another one of your pictures.  i would like it to be formatted similar to the way the itunes screen saver is.
if you click on itunes artwork on the same menu as shown in your last post, you will see what i am trying to achieve.

CAN ANYONE HELP??  I ALSO NEED TO KNOW WHICH/WHAT TO PICK FOR MY MAIL CLIENT. I'VE TRIED THREE DIFFERENT THINGS AND NONE OF THEM WORK!

Mail would be a good choice, unless you are using another email client, like Outlook. There is likely something wrong with the account setup in iPhoto. You may need to delete the account you set up and enter it again if you want to send with iPhoto instead of with Mail.
Give this a try to see what might be wrong: Drag a photo from iPhoto onto the Mail icon in the Dock. It will create a new message with the photo attached. If you click on the photo in Mail, it should show a popup menu to allow you to set the image size to send.
Check out some of the links in the More Like This section to the right. There might be some other suggestions.
