Itunes doesn't startup with iPod

Usually when I connect my Touch (2 gen) to a USB port on the iMac, iTunes fires up if not already running. Recently this has failed to happen. iTunes will recognize the Touch if it is already running, but otherwise nothing happens if it is not. This behavior started about two weeks ago. I reinstalled iTunes after deleting some files and the startup worked for about a week, then no more. What is going wrong here?

I can't remember which version of iTunes that it started doing what you have described. If I have Quit iTunes and I plug in my touch, it will start. If iTunes is merely minimized, plugging in my touch will not maximize the program.

Well uhh yeah it started last night and i had no problem before that, i tried going to files and than clicking sync but it was grey so it didn't work. I posted this on the wrong section earlier.

Have a look and see if somehow your iPod has been set to manual update. Connect your iPod and click on it's icon when it appears in iTunes to bring up the preference tabs in the main display. Have a look and see if "manually manage songs and videos" is checked. If it's checked remove the check mark there and at "enable disk use" then click on Apply.
If that doesn't work try restoring your iPod. Restoring will erase the iPod's hard drive, reload the software and put it back to default settings. Once the restore is complete follow the on screen instructions and it should connect to iTunes and give you a prompt to automatically update your library onto the fresh installation: Restoring iPod to factory settings with iTunes 7

ITunes doesn't launch with iPod

I have had this iPod touch for a few years. Quite recently iTunes stopped auto-launching when I connect the iPod.
I have tried clearing the auto-launch checkbox and syncing, then setting the auto-launch checkbox back on, but to no avail.
Please, any other ideas??

Try:
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

I am switching to a new computer. Itunes doesn't detect my ipod

I am swithching to a new computer and iTunes doesn't detect my iPod. I have loaded iTunes on the computer along with all my music and play lists. When I connect my Pod to the system, the computer recognizes it but iTunes doesn't.

OK, I was able to get iTunes o recognize my iPod touch using the following procedures:

I am having the same issues with my iPhone 4 and iPad 2 not mounting within iTunes every since the iTunes update. I know my USB is working but this is crazy. I had a thought and redowned the updater 10.6.8 thinking it was a bad install still the same issues. Sorry I couldn't help. I am also looking for the answers.

My iTunes doesn't recognize my iPod at all.The iPod charges on the computer perfectly but iTunes doesn't recognize it (as in the iPod doesnt show up in iTunes) which makes it impossible to download songs to the iPod. Since i installed windows 7 itunes doesn't recognise my ipod touch anymore. windows shows it as a digital camera

I just installed windows 7 because my computer was infected by a virus. Before i had windows vista. Now when i try to connect my ipod with the latest version of itunes, itunes doesn't recognise it anymore.
Windows recognises the ipod touch only as a digitalcamera.
I already shut down my firewall for every apple software product i had on my pc. And i updated itunes already.

I'm having a problem with my ipod touch and I can't seem to find anyone with the same problem. About a month ago, I updated itunes after not updating it for a couple months.
The same day I was cleaning my computer, so I was unninstalling some programs I never use, the thing is I must have deleted one I didn't had to, because from that day on when I connect my ipod or any apple device to my computer, my laptop recognizes it, but itunes doesn't. So I haven´t been able to add any music or videos to my ipod in nearly two months... I tried unninstalling and installing itunes again and again and with different versions to see if my ipod wasn't compatible with the version I had updated but that wasn't the case, I have tried everything I can find on the internet but nothing seems to fix my problem.

ITunes doesn't see new iPod nano and creates 'iPod' folders on the Desktop

My mom got a new 5th Gen Nano. When it is connected to my parents' iMac (G5 with built in iSight running Leopard), iTunes doesn't see it. The strange thing is that the iPod itself goes through the normal synching procedures about every 30 seconds, and every time it happens, it creates a new 'iPod' folder on the desktop. The really strange thing is that each folder is actually a mounted volume that cannot be ejected and the only way to remove them is to reboot the system. Right now, there are 11 of those folders on the desktop (I am connected via screen sharing in iChat.
Any idea what to do about this one?

So, I found out how to fix this issue. In "My Computer" right click on the iPod and format it. I chose to format it using FAT and Default allocation size. After that, I opened iTunes and it recognized my iPod Shuffle. It said it wasn't formatted properly but gave me the option to restore it to factory defaults which fixed everything. Way to go Self. I have Windows 7 64bit Pro. I have an Apple Ipod Touch 3G. I have the latest 10.6 iTunes software 32bit version. (64 bit version too unstable.) I plug my Ipod Touch into computer, I hear the "beep" that my computer recognizes it's plugged in, but iTunes doesn't recognize it nor will it sync with it. I can't force it to sync in the iTunes menu under "File" either.

my pc recognizes ipod but itunes doesn't recognize it. i bought my ipod classic 120 gb last week. first time, everything was alright and itunes were syncing well... but after a day, itunes started to not recognize my ipod. i tried lots of things to fix it; uninstalling and reinstalling itunes; restarting my ipod; i did the things in this page http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1363?viewlocale=en_US; i installed floola etc etc... but nothing's changed...

this osunds similar to the problem I am having with a ipod classic 120 gig model. Itunes is saying that the ipod wont work without itunes 8.0 and to download thelatest version of itunes. And I have the latest version of itunes- 8.2. and it still does not recognize my ipod.

I just found out that my hard drive is partitioned and I moved all of the music from my C drive to the D drive and now when I open up iTunes it doesn't have any of my play lists or any of the music.
So I imported it all back into the iTunes music library manually but none of the play lists are there any more and now when I connect my iPod or iPhone, iTunes doesn't recognize them and says "this iPod is synced with another account already." Then asks if I want to erase the info on the iPod and replace it with the iTunes library, but that will erase all of my play lists and pictures and everything else...
Is there any help out there for me???

Hey, Thanks for the response. I have already done that. I changed the location of the music files per the directions on the support website, but even after that when I connect my iPod to my computer it doesnt recognize the iPod and it keeps saying that the ipod is assigned to another computer. So, I think there are some files that I didn't move over when I transfered the original iTunes files from my C drive to my D drive and I don't know how to fix that.

ITunes U not compatible with iPod touch 4th and 5th generation.

I attempted to subscribe to the course, Moons An Introduction. When opening one of the course books, I get an error message stating I need an iPad to read the book. There is nothing about the course being incompatible with iPod touch. Why can't incompatibility information be included in the course description? What a waste of my time. Please don't advise me to open the book on my computer. I don't want to read a book on my computer. That's why I got an iPod. I'm thinking about getting an iPad, but as soon as I purchase one, it will be outdated. Isn't this a ploy by apple to get people to buy iPads? How many iTunes U courses are like this? The most important book of the course is incompatible.

Thank you, lllaass. Of course, an apple user remarks to this fact in their review. Are all courses going to have reviews attached? Why do I have to read reviews on courses to get this information? Who is writing the review? It's not an apple official. How reliable is information in reviews? I've read reviews that have incorrect information. Why not put the fact that a course is incompatible with iPod right in the course description. It would save a lot of time and wasted bandwidth. Why was the book allowed to be downloaded onto an unsupported device?
