ITunes doesn't think im on the internet, but clearly i am

My iPod went on the fritz yesterday and I have to restore it. So I opened itunes (the latest version) and clicked restore and got a message saying "iTunes could not contact the iPod software update server because you are not connected to the internet." I am on the internet however, my browser, and IM chat client are both running and my firewall has itunes on its exception list. also here is the diagnostics test:

All I can suggest is, power down your PC. Power down your cable mode.
Start the cable modem back up, then your PC.
Can you connect now?
Also if you are like most PC owners, there is a copy of Norton security on your machine. It has its won firewall that also needs to be set up, even if you've never used Norton/Symantec.

If you are the only user on your computer you probably don't have multiple user accounts set up and can disregard that.  If you are using iTunes 11 go to View>Show Sidebar.  Now see if your iPad appears under Devices on the left side when you connect it.  If it does, click on the name of your iPad on the left side and your iTunes sync settings options will appear in folders with tabbed headings to the right.
If it doesn't appear on the left side, follow the troubleshooting steps shown in this article: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1538.

  • Im connected to the internet, but I am unable to update my phone or sign in to the itunes store

I received an error which says The iPhone software server could not be contacted. It says to make sure network settings are correct and your connection is active, and try again later. I'm connected to the Internet, but I am unable to update my phone or sign in to the iTunes store. Please help I have tried everything.

I have the exact same issue.  Started happening about the time iOS 5 was available.  Thought it was just server overload with everyone trying to download it at once but it has been well over a week now.  iTunes Support responded with a form letter response with links to solutions that I said I tried in my original email.  Need to make sure my Amazon Downloader app still works if Apple doesn't want my money.

  • I'm connected to the internet, but the Itunes store says that I'm not

Okay...so I've read through all of the support articles on the support section of the site and I've tried out all of the diffrent solutions and I've got nothing. Even after getting the newest verison on Itunes on my computer still wont make it work.
Would saying that I previously had the bankerfox virus on my computer help anybody to find a solution to my problem? Anybody?!

You may want to start by telling is what error you are getting. If you are able to connect to the internet but not iTunes, your firewall and/or virus protection/security software is blocking the necessary ports. I would disable your security software and test. If disabling doesn't work, the nextoptiom would be to either completely remove any and all security software or contact the manufacturer for assistance in configuring the program to allow the ports.

  • What do i do if my internet is wep and i need it to be wpa2 because my ipod touch 4th gen connects to the internet but when i click on safari or itunes it says safari cannot open the page because its not connected to the internet

what do i do if my internet is wep and i need it to be wpa2 because my ipod touch 4th gen connects to the internet but when i click on safari or itunes it says safari cannot open the page because its not connected to the internet. i have contacted apple support and they said to change from wep to wpa2 but when i change it to wpa2 and type in password and connect on my laptop it says the saved setting on this computer for the network do not match the require ments of the network

My 2nd gen works fine with WPA2 and AES encryption.
You may need to go back and start over.  Reset the router back to factory defaults, log on as the admin, set up security, DHCP, and make sure the IP address pool has enough IP addresses to lease to ALL of the computers/devices that will connect to that the router.

  • My iPod dispalys this message: "Connect to a computer. Use iTunes to restore."  When I connect to a computer, iTunes doesn't recognise it.  The iPod 5th Gen does not work at all. How do I fix my iPod without losing any data?

"Connect to a computer. Use iTunes to restore."  When I connect to a computer, iTunes doesn't recognise it.  The iPod 5th Gen does not work at all. How do I fix my iPod without losing any data?
I have seen the Apple webpage suggesting the "five R's" (including restore).  Before doing anything, I want to be sure that restoring or any other action is not going to delete or risk my data.
I would be very grateful if anyone can suggest a fix for this problem, in a way that will not risk my data.
    Thanks in advance!

Did you try a hard reset with the iPod still connected to your PC?  Have you tried multiple USB ports, preferably high powered USB 2.0 ports?
To do a hard reset, first make sure the hold switch is in the Off position, then press and hold both the Select (Center) and Menu buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.
Have you also worked through each and every single troubleshooting suggestion in this Apple support document?

My iphone 5 went into search mode and I can't place or receive calls or use the internet but my text messages work. Sprint had me do a master reset and my phone doesn't work at all now I can't get it past the activation. Will I have to pay for repairs in store because I didnt get the Apple care plan when I purchased it. Sprint said it may be a phone problem not sure if I should take it to Sprint or Apple...I just need my phone

I'm sorry to learn that you are not able to make/receive calls chelseabee! (ticket number removed) results indicate that there is no issues with the network or account provisioning. Since you have already done a hard reset http://vz.to/1gBkSJc (as per your post), I recommend exploring replacement options. If your phone is within the one year manufacturers' warranty we can provide a Certified Like New replacement http://vz.to/uyYF0o as long as no physical/liquid damage exist. If your phone has sustained physical/water damage and you have insurance, you can submit a claim to the insurance company online at this link http://bit.ly/07CrqPK

Step 3: From iTunes sidebar, select your device (in devices section on sidebar)
Step 4: Press and hold Shift key (Windows) or Alt key (for Mac) and click on “Update”.
Step 5: Select the location of .ipsw file you want to restore or load on to iPhone
Step 6: That’s all from your end, now iTunes will perform some automated steps to complete the installation. Your iPhone will restart once the progress is complete.
    Good luck !!

Were you definitely connected to the internet at the time? If you don't have iOS 5 on your iPhone then the only way to update it would be via iTunes, once updated to the latest version of iOS you'll be able to update your iPhone without connecting to iTunes "over-the-air".
Before updating however it goes without saying to Backup your iPhone, this should happen by default upon connecting your iPhone to iTunes.
