Itunes doesn't work after trying to upgrade

this happened a long time ago, like a couple months maybe, but after i clicked to install itunes 6 or something, my itunes died. the icon is still of my desktop and in my computer but when i click on it to open itunes nothing happens. i get no messages or warnings or explanations, it just will not work.
i am afraid if i uninstall itunes and then try to reinstall it, it will lose or delete all of my music.
please help!!!

okay, if you've got Norton Internet Security 2005 (it's the firewall that we're interested in, rather than the antivirus), let's try giving the trusty Lorraine M technique a whirl:

iTunes doesn't work after upgrade to iOS 6. The white screen with gray tape above appears, and nothing more happens. Reinstalling/restoring iOS doesn't help. I have contacted support team in my country (Russia) by phone, but they could not solve the problem. Is there downgrade to iOS 5.1.1 available?

  • Stand-by button on Cinema HD display doesn't work after Mountain Lion upgrade

    Hi,
After I upgraded my Mac mini (spring '09) to Mountain Lion it appears that the buttons on the side of my Cinema HD display doesn't work. There is a setting in sys preferences that should put the Mac in stand-by when the power button is pressed. This doesn't work after I upgraded to OSX 10.8 Mountain Lion.
Does anyone have similar experience. Anyway to fix it?
    Thanks,

  • Macbook doesn't work after trying to install yosemite

    Hello to everyone,
    I have a macbook pro 13 8gb RAM and i7.
I had a problem before installing yosemite, when I switched it off it was always spinning the circle without really shutting down.
So I decided to create a USB driver with diskmaker x with on it Yosemite.
To install it with a clean way so I pressed alt while I was switching it on and I went in disk utility I initialized the Hard disk (750GB) and then I setted as reboot disk the yosemite usb driver... while it was running it I saw some interferences on the logo white page (like thin lines blue and red green..) so I switched it off I tried again and it said to me after a while impossible installing yosemite file system verify or repair failed.
So I tried to initialized the main hard disk again repair it and downloading yosemite via wifi...
An error occured and I saw the folder with " ? "...
Now I tried to start it but it doesn't work, I select the hard drive, I don't see disk utility anymore and once I select the hard disk it start a page and it stucks on the page with apple logo and the bar under it which is incredible slow to advance...
    What can I do?
    Many thanks

  • ITunes doesn't load after trying to install the newest version

Hi. About three days ago when I opened iTunes it asked if I'd like to update. I decided too. After instaling when I opened it I got a message..I'm not sure what it was now, but it said something about needing a new version of Quicktime to opperate. So I downloaded the newest Quicktime. I no longer got that message, however, iTunes will not load. I get the little loading arrow, however thats as far as it goes. My dad tried to fix it and noticed iTunes is running in the background. But only in the background.
I completely uninstalled iTunes and re-installed it from my disc. It still won't load. I'm getting really frustrated because I want to update my iPod and am unable.
    Any help please?

    Hi vinyamar
I wonder whether you are getting the common conflict problem with Norton AV (or any other AV/antispy software for that matter)
    I would recommend this approach
1.Back up your entire iTunes library folder preferably into a separate drive or external memory first. Search the forums if you are not sure how to do this.
2.Ensure you download the iTunes programme to your pc (save to desktop for example) not try to install online.
3.Once you have downloaded iTunes 7 to your pc, disable your AV/Spy software before you try to run the install.
    4. Run the install, then reboot and allow your AV/antispy programmes to come back on (if they don't automatically on restart)
    Try opening iTunes
If you have done this, and it still doesn't work, it may be your chosen AV software and/or firewall is not allowing iTunes to start up. Check the setting on your software in this regard.
I appreciate it is very frustrating when this happens, but be patient and search the forums. There are fixes for just about every problem!:)
In the worst case scenario you may have a nasty little virus which is blocking your iTunes launch. If you don't get any luck with the earlier method, try downloading and running EWIDO (an AV programme) scan and see if that helps as well. www.ewido.net/en/
It is free and incredibly useful in removing certain adware and malware that prevent iTunes from installing on Windows. Good Luck.

  • ITunes doesn't work after I removed it an install an older version

I have a long story with Itunes.
When I downloaded the newest version (9) it didn't work well so I removed it. I downloaded the older version (8 I think) and when I tried to open it it said I couldn't open it because it was created with a newer version. I erased the library.itl file and I reapaired iTunes with iTunes setup. It still didn't work, so I removed all the files in iTunes folder, in the music folder. Now iTunes doesn't open because it says I need to repair or reinstall QuikTime even if it is working well.
As you can see I don't understand much about computers :S
    I need help!
    THANKS!!(sorrry for my english!)

You may want to experiment with these drivers. The most recent is not necessarily the best fit.

  • ITunes doesn't work after update now! Says music files have been moved, would I like to locate them, then everything freezes.

I need some help! I've spent hundreds of dollars on iTunes music and suddenly every time I click the "play" button the entire service just freezes and stops responding. The only way I can even get to a play button that doesn't freeze is through the iTunes store. But at that point when I click "play", it tells me the song can't be played because the file isn't in its original location. It asks me if I'd like to locate it, and if I click yes, it brings me to a screen that I can't do anything with. Nice update. It was just fine until now. What can I do to get my music back???

"She says it doesn't work because the iPod is too old and Apple doesn't suport it any more."
    She is wrong.
Since you do not mention what happens when you try it is hard to help.
The sync is one way - computer to ipod.  The only exception is itunes purchases:  File>Devices>Transfer Purchases
Everything on the ipod came from your computer in the first place.  It should still be there and you should always have a backup copy.

  • ITunes doesn't work after I installed it for my new iPod video

    Hi,
    This is my problem:
When I connect my iPod video to my computer( windowsXP) iTunes doesn't open up. If I start iTunes manually it's says this error:(normally in dutch) The needed software for communication with iPod isn't installed properly. Plz install again, so the software on iPod can be installed.
So I reinstall iTunes, but this error still shows up.+ When I check on ITunes in one of the menus, it says: no iPod connected, but my iPod is connected to my computer.
Can anyone find an explanation for this?

  • ITunes doesn't work after reinstallation following system restore

My Toshiba Satellite P100 uses Windows XP SP2. I don't think my hardware is a real issue in this instance, but I can post it if others think it's pertinent.
I installed iTunes a couple weeks ago and things seemed to work pretty well. I began having issues with my computer freezing up (always when I was away from the computer, so I don't know why) and my fingerprint reader stopped working with Firefox, so I decided to try a System Restore. I set it to restore to December 10th, and both issues seem to have been resolved. However, since December 10th was before iTunes was installed, I had to reinstall iTunes. The installation seemed to work fine, but when I clicked finish with the box to launch iTunes afterwards checked, iTunes did not launch. I thought little of it, and just double-clicked the iTunes icon on my desktop. I got an error message like the following:
"iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
If you were in the middle of something, the information you were working on might be lost.
Please tell Microsoft about this problem

I clicked on the link, but the information it provided was over my head. If anyone thinks it could be helpful in fixing this, let me know and I'll post it.
And then there are two buttons, "Send Error Report" and "Don't Send".
I've seen this kind of error message before when a program gets overloaded or something and has to shut down, but this pops up every time I try to open iTunes (either from the Program Files menu or from the Desktop) and I never even see the iTunes window before the error forces it to shut down. I have tried both rebooting my computer and reinstalling iTunes, but I am still having the same problem. I don't want to have to revert to my old system settings now that my machine is running better, so any advice on an alternative would be greatly appreciated.

I AM HAVING THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM!!! It happened when I upgraded to the newest version of itunes. I did a system restore to a date when everything was working fine and my itunes still did not work. I have tried to go back to an older version and do uninstall/install but the same thing keeps happening. If you figure it out let me know and I will do the same. Also, my quicktime seems to not be working normally.

  • ITunes doesn't work after improper relocation of "My Music" folder

I recently had the bright idea to move the My Music folder from the default C: location to D: which had much more GBs of space in hopes of making some programs run a little faster and more reliably. When attempting to open iTunes after the move it will not open and i received the message, "The folder 'iTunes' can not be found or created and is required. The default location for this folder is inside the 'Music' folder"
Same situation on in the new location on my D: location. What should i do? I even tried moving the files back and iTunes is still unresponsive. How do i fix the situation without losing everything on my iPhone and iPod?

Provided all your music was inside the iTunes Music/iTunes Media folder and you didn't rearrange things internally when you moved from one drive to the other then it should be easy. Click the icon to launch iTunes and *immediately press and hold down the SHIFT key*. You will be asked to choose or create a library. Click Choose and navigate to the iTunes folder wherever you have it now on C: or D:
If most of your music was in the main My Music folder however then you will need to put everything back to exactly where it was before you started to get to the stage where your library will open properly. There are a number of different approaches to moving your content to another drive - which to use depends on whether you're happy to let iTunes organise everything or you like to retain manual control.
If manage to open your library but it can't find your music then iTunes Folder Watch may be useful in helping determining just where iTunes thinks your music ought to be... Ideally move it back there rather than try to fix things one track at a time. Once iTunes is working and able to play your music we can move on to how best to move it to another drive.
