ITunes doesnt detect iPod 4 as iPod, only as camera or iPhone! What to do?

Hey everyone,
Got new Ipod touch 4... but Itunes doesnt recognizes it as Ipod. Only as camera or Iphone and Ipod keeps telling me to connect with itunes.
After downloading latest version of itunes I tried to connect the iPod to my Laptop and it says: "iTunes has detected an iPhone in recovery mode. You must restore this iPhone before it can be used with iTunes." And when I tried to restore my iPod (which is only recognized as iPhone) it says: "Software for this iPhone is not currently available. Make sure you have the latest version of iTunes and try again." But when I go under Store and "Check for available downloads"
it says: "All purchases have been downloaded for this account."
This is pretty much all I tried.
Anybody got any ideas?

Does the text on your iPod show up grey in iTunes? Grey text when you look at the content and lock symbol at the bottom of the screen simply shows that your iPod is set to "automatically update songs and playlists". . If you want to access your iPod directly, play it through your iTunes, connect it to a second computer etc. you just need to change the update method to "Manually manage songs and Playlists" in the iPod preferences. One thing to be aware of with manually updating is that the iPod also has to be manually ejected before the "Do Not Disconnect" message will go away. Safely disconnect iPod

The iPod offers three ways to transfer music from your computer. You can select one of the following update modes from the iPod Preferences menu in iTunes (Edit=>Preferences=>'iPod' tab):
1) Automatically update all songs and playlists. This is the default mode, in which your entire music library, including playlists, is automatically synced to your iPod. If the music library on your computer exceeds the iPod storage capacity, you are prompted to select a different update method.
2) Automatically update selected playlists only. With this option, iTunes automatically copies the playlists you have selected to the iPod when you connect it to the computer.
3) Manually manage songs and playlists. You can also choose to transfer music to the iPod manually. This allows you to drag and drop individual songs and playlists from iTunes to the iPod.

If you followed these instructions and you were unable to enter recovery mode, I'm still leaning toward a hardware problem. Also, since you have IOS-7, read this. It might help.

You can not activate it without a SIM. If it is carrier locked, the SIM must be from the carrier it is locked to.
The SIM does not have to be tied to an active line of service, but it MUST be present.

I apologize, I'm a bit unclear what you mean when you say you cannot access it, and/or how a new iPhone was set up with an old account. If your Apple ID/iCloud account is now different, you may want to try changing the iCloud settings, as well as any other Apple ID settings, as outlined in the following article (apologies if that is what you are currently doing):
iCloud
iOS 6 and later: Go to Settings > iCloud.
If you signed out before changing your Apple ID, enter your current Apple ID to sign in. The data from your iCloud account will download to your device.
If you're still signed in with your previous Apple ID:
Scroll down and tap Delete Account. Depending on what iCloud options are turned on, you'll be asked to confirm that you want to delete data from your device. To confirm, tap Delete. (If you're using iOS 7 and have Find My iPhone turned on, you'll be asked to enter the password for your previous Apple ID. Enter the password, then tap Turn Off.) The data will be deleted from your device, but not from iCloud.
Enter your current Apple ID to sign in. The data from your iCloud account will download again to your device.

If you are still having issues, as this is a new iPhone you may want to try restoring it to factory settings and setting it up as new, including your correct updated account information:

Itunes doesnt detect ipod but has with different ipod

I just bought a used apple ipod after my old one was dropped in my drink and shorted out. I downloaded the ipod updator like it told me after saying that i needed for itunes to detect my ipod and restarted my computer after installing. Even this new 6.0 version says the same error. just checking on something first. after you installed the ipod updater, did you then run the ipod updater (in in "start > all programs > ipod"), connect the ipod when prompted to do so by the program, and then connect the ipod to the AC adapter for the firmware flash?

Good morning everyone.
I have been having a problem with my iTunes. I am working with a Windows 8 PC.
A week ago, iTunes reported an unknown error in this format "0x800xxxx" when I connected either devices (iPad or iPod)
I tried uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes. Now, iTunes cannot even detect the devices. It doesn't show the error message anymore.
What should I do to solve this provlem?
