Itunes doesnt recognise content on my iphone 5
so i bought some cds and imported them onto itunes
i plugged my phone in so i could sync them and it came up with the message that itunes doesnt recognise the content and basically i will have to restore my phone.
i was okay in restoring my phone as all my photos were now saved on the mac, all songs were safe too
but then it said i will have update my phone
so i went on my phone and updated it
so when i went back on the computer it said i would have to update my phone again even though it was up to date and that it would take 50 to download the software update on my computer.
why do i have to update my phone when it is already up to date
and why do i have to restore my whole phone?
i tired ifunbox and that didnt work
i tried deleting a song like other people suggested and that didint work either
please help!

Try holding down CTRL as you launch iTunes to see if it will repair the drivers.

ITunes doesnt recognise any iphone since upgrade to 10.5
I am on windows 7 using Toshiba Satelitte L770
I have an iPhone 3GS, my wife has an iPhone 4 and we have an iPad.
All 3 worked fine with the Toshiba on itunes 10.4
I then wanted to upgrade the devices to iOS 5.0.1 (from 4.3) - so iTunes 10.5.2 had to be downloaded first which we did.
Once iTunes was upgrade - the devices were not recognised, only as camera devices but not in iTunes
I tried all of the standard troubleshooting as seen here - http://www.apple.com/support/iphone/assistant/itunes/#section_7
No joy.
On a separate laptop running Windows Vista on a Dell Latitude, I have iTunes 10.5.2 installed.
When i plug the devices in, they are recognised no problem. So this problem appears to be related to the Toshiba only
I removed itunes and reinstalled the old version 10.4 -- this time iTunes gives out to say the version of iOS is imcompatible with iTunes 10.4 - which I think is good, as at least its recognising the iphone is connected.
Once I upgrade to 10.5.2. on itunes again, nothing, doesnt recognise the fact that any of the devices have been plugged in

What else can I try, cant find anything on google other than what I covered in the troubleshooting requests.Been having the same issues happening on the same machine as you. I did this yesterday, and so far so good.
1. Restart in safe mode (Hold down shift key when you hear the chime)
2. Under Applications > Utilities > Disk Utilities, select your hard drive on the left column, and click "Repair Permissions"
3. Once done, restart

well, don't bother with a cable, I haven't seen anyone say that that solved the problem yet....I have similar problems with a nano 1G-In addition to being seen by the PC as an "unknown device", it won't play songs....it says it is playing, but the time elapsed never changes. When the battery gets very low, then my PC and I-tunes recognizes it, and starts to restore, but then gives error 1437 & 1418.I am quite sure the problem is in the i-pod, and have seen many others with the same symptoms, so apple is aware of it. They need to start replacing these if they don't have a fix. Mine is less than a year old......If anyone gets any info, post it, and I will do the same...

IPhone 3g wont boot. iTunes doesnt recognise it in DFU
I recently tried to factory reset my phone on the iphone under the settings app. When I did it rebooted but did not start up again. It gets to the apple boot screen then the spinning wheel goes behind the apple and freezes. It sits like this until I turn it off. I have tried DFU mode on the iPhone and itunes on my laptop and desktop dont recognise it at all. But it does charge if its left.

Try reinstalling the Apple Mobile Device Service as shown here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1747
Also make sure the iPhone is directly connected to the Mac using the cable that came with it.
If the issue persists after reinstalling the Apple Mobile Device Service and directly connecting the iPhone, make a reservation to have a Genius at a local Apple retail store take a look at it or call AppleCare.

When did you upgrade to 4.1? 4.1 is no longer signed by Apple. It's no longer possible to (legitimately) install 4.1.

It was my old work phone and when the company went broke we were all allowed to keep our phones. The service was shut off so i just used it as a personal organiser and used the internet through wifi. I had never updated the software for it because i didnt have a computer to sync it too to do the itunes updates. Is that possibly the problem? how do i make it work again?

After Backup In iTunes - All Media Content Is Deleted - iPhone 3G 16GB/8GB
I have the latest iPhone Update 3.1 on my wife's 8GB 3G & my iPhone 16GB 3G - We are running the latest iTunes on a 2008 intel iMac. Using separate Logins on iMac.
Strange things have happened since backing iPhone up in iTunes 9 today. (Previous BackUps have been fine)
iTunes asked my wife under her own Login ID to Authorise Content on iPhone & iTunes: iTunes then Wiped All VoiceMemos, Music & Video's etc... from iPhone 3G
The exact same thing happened to me also on my iTunes account and my 16GB iPhone 3G too!
I am now restoring all lost media on both handsets (Time Consuming)
What is going on?
Has this happened to others?
Once is understandable but twice on diffrent iPhones (3G) on different user ID's on same iMac - I am baffled!
This must be a problem with iTunes 9???

Message was edited by: elcrozNot sure what happened here, but I'm not aware of an iTunes prompt to sync an iPhone that is connected. Each iPhone includes a preference setting to automatically sync with iTunes when connected - which I recommend turning off. This is selected under the Summary tab for your iPhone sync preferences. iTunes includes a preference setting to not automatically sync and iPod or iPhone when connected. This is a personal choice, but I prefer manually syncing, or syncing when I want to in case I want to make any changes before my iPhone is synced.
I assume your Father does not maintain a backup of his Address Book data on his Mac, or any other important data? The Address Book application includes a simple and quick backup Address Book option which is important to use when syncing any device, but is important regardless in case a problem arises with the Address Book database.
On your Father's Mac, with the Address Book application quit, go to Home > Library > Application Support > AddressBook.
Within the Address Book folder, move the AddressBook.data file to the Desktop.
Change the name of the AddressBook.data.previous to AddressBook.data or remove the .previous extension from the file name so it is AddressBook.data only.
Cross your fingers and launch the Address Book application. If the Address Book data is not restored, and your Father does not have a backup of his Address Book data, the data is lost. -
ITunes cannot read contents of my iPhone 5 and keeps prompting me to restore it to factory settings
Every time I plug my iPhone 5 into my Windows computer, it comes up with a box saying that the contents of my phone cannot be read, and prompts me to restore my iPhone to factory settings. The phone itself continues to be working fine, but I can't sync anything onto my phone through iTunes. My last iPhone backup was about 3 weeks ago, so I'm worried that I will lose a fair bit of data if I go ahead with a full reset. I've already tried holding down the home button and on/off button on my phone until the Apple logo appears, as well as restarting my computer, both nothing has changed. Can anybody help me out? A 3-week-old Backup is going to have to be good enough at this point. You should do a Reset and expect to loose any personal data not in your Backup. Anything you have recently purchased from the App Store or from iTunes will still be available to re-download in that you already have paid for them.

please advice how to resolve this.I wanted to share this for others who might come across this post with the same problem.
This fix will work for ipods/iphones/etc.
What has happened is an itunes control or preferences file has somehow gotten corrupted on your device. Why Apple hasnt built the option to do this into itunes is beyond me. In effect you may lose your music library on the device but all contacts/notes/apps/etc will be untouched and fine. Apparently Apple thinks wiping the whole thing is a better option?
Anyhoo:
First try to delete one song from your playlist, and turn off/on your device. This will hopefully overwrite the corrupt database file. Try connecting to itunes again and see if that does it.
If the above doesnt work:
1) Download/Install "i-FunBox" which gives you control of the iPhone’s file system from your computer.
2) Open i-FunBox and search for iTunesDB or iTunesCDB. They should show up in a folder, ie; /var/mobile/Media/iTunes_Control/iTunes
3) Personally, I had to rename "iTunesCDB" "iTunesContol" and "iTunesPrefs" on my iphone 4 before mine sync'd to itunes again. Its always a better idea just to rename these files incase you need to go back or restore them. If for any reason you cannot rename them, then delete them as a last resort.
DO NOT delete or rename anything other than these 3 files!!!
Keep in mind you WILL LOSE YOUR MUSIC LIBRARY. Everything else will be OK though. (contacts/notes/apps/etc)
4) Open itunes again and reconnect your device. Voila!
Alternately, if youre jailbroken, open ifile and navigate to: /var/mobile/Media/iTunes_Control/iTunes

PLEASE HELP!! itunes doesnt wanna transfer video to iPhone
so i click on what videos i want and itunes does the sync in progress for about 20 secs then tells me its complete and i can disconnect. i look at my iphone and no videos are shown! this has been happening for about a month now!!

Double-click the videos and make sure they play in iTunes. This will also make sure the computer is authorized to play the videos. This article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1420 provides more information about authorizing your computer in iTunes.
Were the videos purchased from the iTunes Store? If they were, what is the name of the videos?
If the issue persists, try right clicking the iPhone, under Devices in iTunes, and Resetting Warnings. Does iTunes show an error message now?
