Computer AND iTunes don't recognize my iPod touch.  Comp thinks it is a camera or something.  iTunes won't bring up devices at all.  I've already uninstalled iTunes and QT and reinstalled after problem that happened when I updated iTunes - updated iTunes completely demolished my computer's ability to recognize the sound card and computer had NO sound at all.  I had to uninstall iTunes, QT, AND my sound card and reinstall them all.  Sound worked fine, but now I can't sync my iPod.  Computer recognizes that "something" is hooked up (thinks it might possibly be a camera) and I get that "open with" window.  In "my computer" it shows that there is an "iPod" connected, but it is pictured as a camera.  In iTunes my username is no longer appearing (although account info is there) and NO devices whatsoever get listed.  There is nothing wrong with my USB ports or cable.  And of course Apple won't help anyone unless you pay them to. ... I am getting beyond P/Oed!!!  You pay hundreds for a product and all you get are headaches with their stupid bug infested software and no support at all.
Can anyone out there help me clean up this unbelievable mess Apple and iTunes has created in my computer?
    Thank you.

After three completely wasted days trying to figure all of this out I finally got it fixed - on my own - by reading dozens and dozens of rogue posts in indie forums from people that refuse to dish out money to have a company TRY and advise possible fixes on their own glitches.
(here's a novel idea - fix the glitches Apple.  Or - don't send out updates filled with bugs in the first place)
Everything (several applications) had to be uninstalled in a very specific order and then restarted , then it all had to be verified with manual deletions of leftovers, and emptying the recycle bin, then another restart, then iT had to be reinstalled again and the system restarted again, and two more update downloads. Holy!!!
I love my little iPod touch, but I honestly must say, when this kind of thing happens (and it has several times now when I try to deal with iTunes or Apple), it makes me want to flush it down the toilet.

  • Itunes don't recognize ipod classic

Itunes don't recognize my Ipod Classic 160 gb. The Ipod appears on the desktop, but the Itunes freezes and I have to force quit. Since I can't control the I pod from Itunes, it's not possible to restore de device. In that case, what do I have to do?

Are you charging it via a PC or a 10W wall charger?
But either way, leave it connected for at least 2 hours, there wont be any life on the iPod screen for the first 30 minutes or so.
    Have a nice day!

This forum is for questions from those managing sites on iTunes U, Apple's service for colleges and universities to post educational material in the iTunes Store. You'll be most likely to get help with this issue if you ask in the general iTunes or iPhone forums.

  • TS3299 opticals drive disappeared in my Windows 8 computer.   After  1-1/2 on the phone this was corrected but now my Itunes don't  recognize the drive.  Error message stating registry errors.  I tried   running in windows 7 compatibility mode that don't

Purchased a new Ipad for my wife and integrated it with my windows 7 system and Itunes and made it through.  Was able to sync and bring pictures, contacts and bookmarks over.  Not to say it was easy because I never used any Apple product except my Ipad and Itunes.  Really enjoyed using the Ipad and was thinking of getting a new Iphone this week being my contract is up.
Then the trouble began I bought a new windows 8 system after having trouble with my old hard drive.  I have finances and Tax programs I use that I thought would be easier to continue using windows rather than trying integrating past years Quicken & Turbo Tax information into a new Apple system.
Well now I'm sorry I bought the new windows 8 system.  First all my optical drives disappeared when installing itunes.  After spending 1-1/2 on the phone with a service rep and finally was able to see my optical drive I thought everything was OK.  Then more trouble.  When I open Itunes I receive an error message that says my Itunes no longer recognizes my optical drive try reinstalling.  I reinstalled 10 times and tried compatibility mode and the end result is my Itunes no longer could burn Cd's.  I had this problem if I'm not mistaken in the past with ME system back many years ago.  And did not want to go through this again but here I am disgusted once again.

I finally got my nano working (no thanks to Apple, hmpf!) and it's running fine with 1.0.2 now. For those with similiar problems try this:
    +For Mac, you need to:+
+1. Downgrade to firmware 1.0.1 by deleting the files iPod_26.1.0.2.ipsw and iPod_26.1.0.2.ipsw.signature (are in the folder iPod software updates somewhere on the harddisk)+
+2. under Settings in iTunes you have to disable automatic download of updates, then restart iTunes.+
+3. Enter Disc Mode by holding menu & select for about ten seconds, then pressing play/pause & select for another ten seconds.+
+4. reconnect your nano to Reset, and when iTunes prompts to update, just don't allow it to look for updates and then reset with fw 1.0.1.+
I'm supriced Apple support didn't tell me about this? This worked great and is a very fast fix. I can't believe Apple got me to reinstall the whole OS, which didn't even solve it btw. USB 1, blah! Yeah right..

  • Windows AND iTunes don't recognize Nano at all...

I just got an 8GB Nano a few days ago, and when I connect it, nothing recognizes there's anything there. Device manager, My Computer, and iTunes all act like there's nothing connected to the computer. I would think it's my computer, but my iPod Mini 6GB syncs perfectly fine with no problem.
It's not a question of it just not syncing, the whole system acts like there's nothing there.
iPod updated 2006-6-28 just tells me that my Mini is no longer supported, and won't let me even try to do anything with a nano.
I have the XP service pack 2, and photoshop as well. I'm running iTunes 7 on my computer, and everything IS hooked up corrected, because my Mini works fine with this.
So... Is there some solution I just haven't tried, or is it time to take advantage of the warrenty?

    ...Still got problems...
Although, when I start up my computer, the charging symbol shows up, and then dissappears. Poof.
My mini still works fine with the exact same connection and everything... Soooo... This really kinda *****.
I updated to iTunes 7.0.1 or whatever, and I've been searching all kinds of forums... Everyone seems to be okay with the computer recognizing the iPod... But my computer isn't even recognizing there's something there...
    Would a hi speed 2.0 USB connection from Stratitec work? Because that's what I'm using on the mini and attempting to use on the nano. Plleeeeeaaaassseee help me ^_^;;
(I need to figure out if I should use the warranty.)

  • HT4972 iTunes doesn't recognize my iPhone is pluged in... what can I do?

    Hi!
    I´m from Portugal and I've a iPhone 3G. I think is OS version 4.2.
Since last monday I can't synchronize my iPhone with the computer (windows 8.1).
When I plug it in I only can see the Windows message asking what I want to do and it doesn't open iTunes anymore...
iTunes don't recognize that my iPhone is pluged in.
    Can you help me?

If it was working and stopped, have you rebooted Windows? Rebooted your iPhone? Are you using the same USB port you have always used? Have you added any USB devices that might be drawing more power?
I asked about Windows 8.1 because there was an incompatibility with some other apps on 8.1 and iTunes. There was an iTunes update (a "slipstream" update) a few days ago that did not change the version number, but fixed the incompatibility. However, the incompatibility showed up as a Windows error message. So if you didn't get an error message this is not relevant to your situation.

  • Itunes doesn't recognize iphone sim card after installing io5

Any advice very welcome Thank you!

  • IPhone doesen't recognize SIM-card. Can't restore in iTunes

    Hi,
I bought myself an iPhone 3G the other day. I've played with it all weekend and there were no issues.
But, this morning when I booted up the phone it said:
    +Recovery required.+
+iPhone can't make or receive calls. Restore with iTunes.+
It also showed a USB-cable plugged into an iTunes icon. It didn't make any sense at all: I haven't done anything unusual with the phone!
When I connected iPhone to iTunes (8.0.2) on my iMac, it said:
+iTunes can't activate the iPhone because the SIM card either is not inserted, or requires a PIN.+
+Disconnect the iPhone, check that the SIM card is properly inserted and, if you have a PIN for your SIM card, press unlock and enter the code, and connect the iPhone again.+
So, iTunes won't recognize my iPhone either. And the iPhone won't recognize my SIM card, it seems. I've tested the SIM card in another phone and that worked properly.
What should I do? I can't do anything from the computer, nor the phone. Is it a hardware trouble? Should I get a new SIM card?
    Thanks in advance!

Thanks for your answer. I will contact Telia as soon as possible to try to get a new card.
But, I found the official Apple support article for my problem:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2455?viewlocale=en_US
I've checked all of those solutions at the bottom. The SIM card is definitely in the card slider-thing.
I can't type my PIN code anywhere on the screen either! The info dialog doesn't show an IMEI or ICCID number at all.
The last solution is according to the article to restore iPhone. How? iTunes can't find it, and holding Home+Sleep won't do either.
