How do I downgrade from Itunes 6 to Itunes 5.0.1? I can't locate a download for older versions.

  • ITunes downgrade advice needed

    Hey.
I'd like to downgrade from iTunes 11.0.1 to iTunes 10.
    I'm using OSX 10.8.3.
I know there are a bunch of threads on the internet about this already,
but it seems that by simply removing iTunes 11, and installing 10, that
there will be some complications with having to replace some additional files,
and I can't seem to find a thread with my exact OS version.
I just opened up a brand new MPB, and i'm pretty scared about messing some
    stuff up.
It'd be great if somebody who's had experience with this could give me a run down
of what I need to do, why I need to do it, and what precautions I should take.
    Thanks in advance!
p.s. the reason I want to downgrade, is to get back the feature which allows you to
open the "now playing" album artwork in a seperate window.  I really enjoyed having
my library next to a large picture of the artwork, rather than just the preview iTunes 11
gives you in the library view.

    I agree.
his is something apple shoud take more serious and let user that want to downgrade their Apps do that in an easy way.
The reasons you want to downgrade can be that there was som functions you are missing in the new version, or the older version is compatible with your printer and the new is not, or maybe you just liked the old version better.
An easy way to downgrade both Apps and Systems is something many are asking for.

  • ITunes downgrade mistake. [Renamed previous library w/ an extra space].

I followed the steps to downgrade from v10 to v9.2.1. I believe I did everything right except the renaming of the Previous Library file which was supposed to be named "iTunes Library". *I left a space at the end of the name*. Yes, apparently a space is counted as a character. I thought I had 2 iTunes Library files at first but, one has a space. How can I undo or remedy this? iTunes must not have recognized it as the "iTunes Library" so it created a new iTunes Library; when I installed iTunes 9.2.1.
    Since the downgrade;
I've gained 16GB of music which must have, somehow, come from various folders on my Mac (maybe a preference setting). The file sizes have increased for most of the other files in the iTunes folder (not sure why, but I'm guessing that's not normal). I have no way of knowing if the downgrade would have been successful or not. Maybe I needed to delete or change an additional file or something. How can I go back to rename my "Previous iTunes Library" (v9.2.1) "without" the space this time; and get all of my iTunes 9.2.1 information to show up?  Is this the correct downgrade procedure  from version 10?
    Downgrade Steps:
    1) Back up computer with Time Machine.
    2) Copy iTunes Folder contents over to a desktop folder.
    3) Toss:
    • iTunes Application
    • iTunesAccess.pkg...    [Same as iTunes.pkg?)*
    • iTunesX.pkg
    • Com.apple.iTunes.plist
    • Genius.itdb.. Replace with old versions (from where?)
    • Extras.itdb... "same "
    4) Change iTunes Library name to "iTunes Library.old".
    5) Copy "Previous iTunes Library+date" (v9.2.1) over to iTunes folder & then delete the date off of "Previous Library+date" file name.  *(accidentally left one space at end of the new name)*
    6) Install 9.2.1
    * Couldn't locate older versions of Genius.itdb and Extras.itdb file. (I deleted them though; thinking iTunes would find the "older versions").
    Will this be helpful?
I still have the copy of the old iTunes folder contents (minus the music) on my desktop and a TM backup from before the downgrade. I also took a screenshot of all the iTunes 10 related files before the downgrade (which I now know how to post) plus the image of the (before and after) iTunes folders; to compare file size differences. I haven't emptied the trash. I also have the iTunes Library ".old". I just don't know what to do with any of this. I will need to figure out how to get the playlists; after I fix this mistake. I won't open iTunes; until I know what my next step is.
I've never restored anything with TM before, I'm not very knowledgeable of computers and software (& forums). I'm "not the sharpest tool in the shed" so; simple step by step instructions would be helpful. Thanks in advance, for any advice or nudge in the right direction even.
    2 images:
    1. All iTunes 10 related files that I could find (before the downgraded).
iTunes 10 files before downgrade : Free Image Host.
    2. A before & after iTunes folders: iTunes folder contents copied to desktop before downgrade (minus music). Named: "*OLD* iTunes folder" (v10) & the New (v9.2.1) "iTunes" folder (to compare sizes etc...).
File size comparison. Old vs New. : Free Image Host.

I resolved this issue by unistalling 10.6.3 and downloading and installing 10.7. Then restoring the .itl from Previous iTunes Libraries and changing its name to iTunes Library.itl works. iPhone 5 can sync and everything works.

  • ITunes Downgrade - Help

Can anyone tell me where I can download an older version of iTunes? I can't seem to find it anywhere. Thanks a lot.

You current library will not work with an earlier version of iTunes.
You can re build your library from your xml library file using the method here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1451
Or you can look for a back up library in the previous iTunes libraries folder. These backups are made when you upgrade, and the name includes the date.
See this link about something slightly different. It tells you how to use a backup library:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1967?viewlocale=en_US

  • Upgraded Snow Leopard to Lion, iTunes downgraded to 10.3.1.

I installed Lion today over Snow Leopard, and now when I try to start up iTunes I get this error message:
The file “iTunes Library.itl” cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes. Would you like to download iTunes now?
I click on Download iTunes, and Software Update starts up and tells me that all the software is up to date.
iTunes in the Applications folder is at version 10.3.1. Before the upgrade to Lion it was 10.5.3.
Time Machine can't restore the newer version of iTunes because "“iTunes” can’t be modified or deleted because it’s required by Mac OS X."

The current version of iTunes is 10.6.3, not 10.5.3.
You can download it from Apple's web site: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1426
The latest version of Lion is 10.7.4.
Update your information, you list 10.6.2 as your current OSX version.

  • ITunes downgraded itself to 8.1

    From the Software Update log:
    2009-06-06 09:50:00 +1000: Installed "iTunes" (8.2.0)
But then in About iTunes, it says version 8.1.
Checking for updates in iTunes says there is a new version available.
Clicking the download button takes me to Software Update, where no update is shown.
Noticed it when opening iTunes said that the library was created by a newer version of iTunes, and refused to open (fixed).
    Any ideas?

    Hello all,
If you are getting an error message about incompatible libraries, that means that iTunes 8.2 was able to run at least once to create an updated library. Did you move the iTunes application out of /Applications? Did you install anything else immediately before iTunes 8.2 stopped opening?

  • Is it possible to downgrade from iTunes 11 back to 10.7

    Hi
    - Really not linking iTunes 11 , is it possible to downgrade, any answer would be extremly helpful!
    Thanks
    - Tom

    =Downgrading from iTunes 11 to iTunes 10.7=
Try activating the sidebar, menu bar, and status bar and see if this is close enough to the previous version to make you content.  It is easier than downgrading and eventually you will be forced to run a newer iTunes unless you have an endless supply of the model computer you currently own.
You may be able to go back with Time Machine but this may involve restoring other items too (https://discussions.apple.com/message/20441404).  Alternatively:
Back up your computer first, in case the unexpected happens.
Here's a step-by-step method and you may find it easier to follow than alternative methods I have posted below.
    Downgrade iTunes 11 to iTunes 10.7 - http://www.emacconsulting.com/apple/itunes/downgrade-itunes-11-to-itunes-10-7/
If the above does not work, or you want to do it without Pacifist, or you want to know what is actually going on when downgrading, or you encounter error messages, here's more details:
    Quit iTunes.
Get iTunes 10.7 from http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1576 or the direct download link at:  http://appldnld.apple.com/iTunes10/041-7195.20120912.d3uzQ/iTunes10.7.dmg
Do a few preparatory steps by making sure all iTunes components are not running and cleaning old files.   See https://discussions.apple.com/message/20475394.  Do steps 3 and 4.  Steps 6-8 may be also useful but I don't know if they are essential.  Some of the other steps are not necessary, duplicate steps listed later in my post or are perhaps even unhelpful in the process.
Replace the iTunes 11 application with iTunes 10.7.  Simply dragging the application to the trash may not work. Lion (OSX 10.7) and newer systems have iTunes integrated into the operating system and deleting is a bit more involved.  Two ways to do this are:
    1.  (Easier) Use the shareware Pacifist utility (http://www.charlessoft.com/) to install iTunes 10.7 including all associated system files. Details at http://forums.macrumors.com/showpost.php?p=16400819&postcount=6
    2. (More work) Check this reference on how to delete the iTunes application itself:
Delete iTunes in Mac OS X 10.7 Lion - http://osxdaily.com/2011/09/13/delete-itunes-in-mac-os-x-10-7-lion/
After deleting the application there may be other files that need downgrading too. See the note about error -42408 at the end of this post. You may want to tuck these away somewhere safe until you have completed the installation of iTunes 10.7.  I have not tested this but ideally if newer versions are not found then the installer will put in the old versions. This may include these files in /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/ which apparently get updated by iTunes 11:
    AirTrafficHost.framework
    CoreFP.framework
    DeviceLink.framework
    iTunesAccess.framework
    MobileDevice.framework
After doing one of the two procedures above you will have to rescue the most recent old iTunes library from your iTunes > Previous Libraries folder. Rename it "iTunes Library.itl"  and replace the existing one in the iTunes folder. A newer version of iTunes irreversibly updates your library file so you have to replace it with the old one or you will get an error message. Note, this will revert your library to the version at the time of the upgrade and you will have to update any changes made since.  See:

Alternatively, check https://discussions.apple.com/message/20441424 which requires you have a Time Machine backup (though possibly if you remove the newer version of these files old ones may be installed with the iTunes 10.7 installer - untested).  A  variant of this is at: https://discussions.apple.com/message/20448184

  • How can I get rid of Itunes 11 - such a bad version !!- and get back to the previous version?

How come the new itunes 11 is so bad? I need to force quit every 10 mn as it buggs all the time for no reasons (for ex. when I search a song beginning by "a"): Moreover, the search engine is not reliable at all, the Genius application is dead, the tracks disappear, the duplicate function is acting silly etc
So please any tip to get rid of this technological accident and get back the previous version?
    Thanks.

  • IPod touch 4th Gen is recognized as digital camera, not in iTunes

I'm using a Windows XP computer with the newest version of iTunes and my iPod touch 4 won't pop up in iTunes, it's a digital camera according to my pc. I have tried really EVERYTHING: update iTunes, downgrade iTunes, reinstall iTunes and all other apple software 7 times, USB drivers, firmware, DFU-mode, every single apple support I could find I tried! And now I'm tired of it, my rage upon this issue isn't describable anymore...
Please help me instead of referring to another topic

Found the sollution, but it is very hard to do though:
"Unfortunatly uninstalling/re-installing iTunes and all doesn't always seem to work. We had the same issue with the ipod touch being recognized as a digital camera under windows xp. We tried just about any recipe listed by apple or others with no success.
In the end what works is to just force the drivers on what windows thinks is a camera, i.e. to ‘update’ the device to use the correct driver. There are some hints on how to do this already listed on this forum, but I’ll try to give some more detailed information:
    1. First off you need to have iTunes installed and the ipod touch plugged in
and recognized as ‘something’ e.g. digital camera (it shouldn’t really
matter what it’s recognized as, but it needs to be found by windows).
    2. Search for usbaapl in the C:\WINDOWS system folder:
o open windows explorer (e.g. Right-click Start and then click ‘explore’)
o right-click the WINDOWS folder and select ‘Search’).
o type in usbaapl and hit Search – try to ignore the dog!
You should find the driver info in a sub folder of
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\DRVSTORE e.g. C:\WINDOWS\system32\DRVSTORE\usbaapl_A65621D65F5B7507DD7B22331826547BDD2D206B
Remember that location (either leave the search box open or copy the folder
name into note pad – you’ll need it later)
If you don’t find usbaapl.sys, usbaapl.inf etc. then your drivers have not
been installed with the iTunes install and you’ll have to reinstall iTunes.
    3. Locate the ipod-camera device:
o Open the device manager, e.g. using Start > Control Panel >
Performance and Maintenance > System > Hardware Tab > Device Manager
o Look for a device called ‘ipod’ - if your ipod shows up as
‘digital camera’ it will be under something like ‘imaging devices’.
    4. Update the driver:
o Right click the ‘ipod-camera’ in device manager and click on
‘Update Driver’ – the Hardware Update Wizard will open.
o Check the ‘Install from a list or specific location’ then click ‘Next’
o Check ‘Search for the best driver in these locations’. Un-check
‘Search removable media’ and check ‘Include this location in the search’.
In the text box below type (or better copy and paste) the folder
containing the ipod driver information found in step 1 (in the example
    above it was C:\WINDOWS\system32\DRVSTORE\usbaapl_A65621D65F5B7507DD7B22331826547BDD2D206B),
    then click Next.
You should now see something like ‘Apple ipod device driver’ or so. Continue
installing that device. Once the driver has been installed the ipod will come
to life and iTunes (if you have it open) will show it.
Hope this helps. Please add comments to the instructions above if you find variations that work for you."
Apple should fix things like this!

  • ITunes album art screensaver no longer works

My screensaver suddenly no longer displays the iTunes album artwork library.
Instead it's a black screen saying "Your iTunes Library does not contain any songs with artwork.
What happened here? Album artwork shows up fine in iTunes and the screensaver used to work just fine...

Update: I downgraded back to iTunes 8 - and the album artwork screensaver is finally back!
I also missed the photo album sorting feature with non-iPhoto photo syncing,
so for now the iTunes downgrade works for me ...
Hoping Apple will fix some of these issues with one of the next updates!

  • Hard drive failing, need new Mac, how can I keep iTunes 10.7

I've got a mini mac, ca. 2009.  The hard drive has begun to fail, and the external monitor is also beginning to go (once all-black screens is now mostly pale grey.
I have 75,000 songs on an external drive.  I tried iTunes 11 when it came out, and had to roll back to 10.7 because iTunes 11 is simply not capable of managing a large library.  Lack of multiple screens alone is enough to drive me away.
When I asked at the Apple store if there is any way to keep iTunes 10, they laughed in my face, then got the Apple-knows-better-than-you tone and said there is no way to use an "inferior" version of itunes anymore.
    Is there any hope?

Any new Mac will come with the newest iTunes installed.  Now something I don't really know much about but could be an issue is according to what I have read iTunes is now more intergrated into the system of the Mac.  It used to be a pretty much stand-alone application which you didn't even have to install.  How integrated I don't know.  It may still be possible to delete iTunes using one of the many reverting back to an older version method posted here. Using older operating system components is not something you can do though, since they may well cause instability in a computer that was designed with a newer system in mind.  However, I don't know if iTunes is really that much part of the system.
Realize also that you will be forced to upgrade should you ever buy an i-device since those require the version of iTunes current when you make the purchase.
Here's a downgrade post I had in my archives:

MacBook Pro 10.8.2 (running as admin)
    iTunes 11.0.1
    iPhone 4S 6.0.1
“iTunes could not backup the iPhone “Name’s iPhone” because an error occurred.”
I’ve read and followed some of the suggestions about deleting the backup… which I did and nothing. Syncing is no problem but when the status bar says “backing up”, the error pops up and it continues to sync music and apps.
Deleted backup… didn’t help which means I have no backup to restore from.
No error code associated with message.
I’ve tried restoring (via iTunes) but after it “extracts the software”, it stops because it can’t do a backup.
I thought I read in another thread where a poster said something about resetting/deleting everything from the phone directly, can anybody tell me if this works? I know I can reload the apps and music but will this delete the camera roll too?
I know there are numerous thread regarding this error message so I apologize for being repetitive… but I would be eternally grateful for any and all additional help!!

  • Itunes error 0x80092013 - can't log into iTunes

I know there are a lot of posts on this error...itunes error 0x80092013. I can't log in. Apple please put this on the top of your list to fix. I can't log in, can't update my family's FOUR iTouch. Nothing was changed or installed before, during, or after the iTunes 10.6 update. Clearly it is an Apple issue.

I have got this error and have done quite a bit of digging.
Can you check the following folder:
C:\Users\<user name>\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\Logs (where username can be 'Joebloggs' etc).
In this folder there should be some log files.  Double click on the most recent file.  If you are getting the same problem as me and numerous other people there should be entries in this file similar to below:
    [4652 @ Mon Mar 26 18:43:27 2012] [com.apple.iTunes iTunes.exe] CertVerifyCertificateChainPolicy failed with error 0x80092013
    [6040 @ Mon Mar 26 18:43:27 2012] [com.apple.console APSDaemon.exe] CertVerifyCertificateChainPolicy failed with error 0x80092013
    [4652 @ Tue Mar 27 00:00:05 2012] [com.apple.iTunes iTunes.exe] CertVerifyCertificateChainPolicy failed with error 0x80092013
Looking at this the problem is related to certificates and itunes.exe and apsdaemon.exe.
Interstingly I have noticed whenever I exit itunes it stays resident in memory (this can be checked by using task manager'). The only way for it to completely exit itunes is to end the process tree for apsdaemon.exe in task manager.  Do you also get this problem?  The reason I ask this is that a large number of errors have been reported with apsdaemon.exe as well.
A number of people have reported that the only way they have been able to sort this problem is either an itunes downgrade or a windows re-install.
