ITunes download error "Service "Apple Mobile Device Service"

How do I get past the iTunes download error message: "Service "Apple Mobile Device Service" failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privilege to start system services." ?
I have tried ignoring, trying again, and canceling and reloading.  I most recently downloaded the exe file, then from the download file right clicked to  "run as Administrator" use an HP Pavillion g7 Notebook PC with 64-bit operating system and Windows 7. How can I get past this message?

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The section Install missing components may allow you to install Apple Mobile Device Support without removing other components.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.

  • Error when doing new download.  Says "Apple Mobile Device Service" failed to start.  I cannot get past this.  HELP!

Went to install new iTunes download.  Now get an error when trying to do this.  I uninstalled iTunes completely and now is see "apple mobile device service" failed to start.  I now cannot get iTunes back on my PC.  HELP!!

For those who updated iTunes and displaying the error "Windows error 193 or similar," a way to still use the iTunes download the 11.1.3.8 version of iTunes and install. Before installing something must be done:
    * Step 1 - Uninstall the following programs:
    1) Apple Software Update
    2) Bonjour
    3) iTunes.
    Step 2 - Install version iTunes 11.1.3.8
If it shows the error "iTunes Library.itl" the solution is simple. Only delete the file in the C: \ Users \ Name \ Music \ iTunes called iTunes Library.itl.
Note: When you open the older version will ask if you want to update. Do not upgrade because it will give the same error in the update.
It is the hint. Could not say it is a solution, but a way to take advantage of the program for a while and wait for an Apple solution. Sincerely Ricardo.

  • ITunes 9.2, the Apple Mobile Device service is not started...(crashed).

"This iPhone cannot be used because the Apple Mobile Device service is not started"
The above shows each time I try to start iTunes after upgrading to 9.2 (from 9.1) this morning on my Sony Vaio (Windows 7 32 bit) laptop.
The AMD service crashes as soon as iTunes starts; services control panel shows this and the event viewer confirms with : The Apple Mobile Device service terminated unexpectedly. It has done this 6 time(s). The following corrective action will be taken in 60000 milliseconds: Restart the service.
Restarting the service while iTunes is running does not provoke iTunes into listing my iPhone, which, under 9.1 was all working correctly.
After removing iTunes, all associated apple programs, QuickTime etc, removing temporary files and so forth, then reinstalling 9.2, I'm left in the same place, each time I start iTunes, the AMD service crashes and iTunes does not list my iPhone.
Any thoughts or help would be greatly appreciated.
    Regards, Gary Thomlinson

Most people on here seem to be having problems with iTunes 9.2 on 64 systems, I however am on 32 bit.
I've also noticed just this morning, that putting my old iPod on this computer does spring iTunes into life and the device shows/syncs. The iPhone 3GS however does not, causing the service to crash or just itunes to ignore the device. I've tried and restore/backup etc (via another computer) and still iTunes refuses to see the iPhone. This has SO got to be a bug.
Irony is, my iPhone 4 arrives today, and this is the only computer I have access to at the moment, meaning no iPhone 4 activation today!!

  • Service 'Apple Mobile Device Service' (Apple Mobile Device Service) failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services????

I recently got an iPhone 5s and had to download the new itunes which I had been putting off for ages, otherwise it wouldn't sync. It wouldn't let me download and instead said 'service mobile device service' failed to start. I then tried to uninstall (as recommended by apple) and re install but the same error came up. If i click ignore, it finishes downloading but refuses to open, instead coming up with 'error 7 windows error 193'. Ive tried everything and this is really frustrating, help would be much appreciated

OK Dave, i just found one solution that worked for me.  However, I find that solutions appearing on discussion threads often are very OS and machine specific, so I normally try a variety of suggestions.  After awhile one suggestion normally works.  So try this one, remembering I have a Dell PC with Win 7 x 64 which may not fit your situation.
Go to https://discussions.apple.com/message/24606166#24606166 where you will find a solution from touringtest2.  The soulition requires an easy uninstall of Apple software items.  I followed the steps outlined exactly and have successfully installed the most recent iTunes software.  Hope this works for you and a few others too.  Apple support sure doesn't make it easy for interested users which is why I appreciate support communities like this.  Thank you touringtest2 wherever you are.  Best - RonS42

  • ITunes installation errors and Apple Mobile Device Errors

First I will explain how I got to where I am now. I had the an iTunes 7 version, don't know the specific, and I have an ipod touch. I had been ignoring the iTunes 8 upgradge things upon open of iTunes, cause i had absolutely no need for it and syncing music to my ipod was still working, and i dont care for itunes besides being able to use my ipod. Then the iphone os 3.0 came out and i wanted to download/pay for it, and when i attempted to do this i was promptly instructed that I needed iTunes 8. I closed itunes and reopened so i could just tell the prompt that i wanted to upgrade, then bonjour opened and i selected the itunes/quicktime package, it gave me an error saying i needed to download manually, so i turned off automatic install. I then downloaded again, it opened a folder with iTunes.msi among other things, I double clicked itunes.msi and it proceeded to install. I then had iTunes 8 installed, opened it up, and with my ipod touch connected, it told me I needed upgraded apple mobile device and i had to uninstall both apple mobile device and itunes to do this. so i uninstall itunes through add/remove programs, and attempted to uninstall apple mobile device and everytime i did this it would not complete and gave me "Fatal Error" prompt. I then tried to reinstall iTunes and it would not install, kept giving me an error and told me to try again. I searched google for answers and the best anyone could say was delete missing files and try again, so i can CCleaner and got rid of registrys etc, and still would not allow me to uninstall apple mobile device. i reinstalled itunes and it actually worked this time, and then i plug in my ipod touch and it tells me i need the upgraded apple mobile device again, and that i need to uninstall apple mobile device and itunes to do this. If i could get rid of apple mobile device altogether maybe i wouldnt have this problem, but it simply wont let me. Any help with this? and sorry this was so long, i figured someone would need to know what happened to know how to fix it.

It sounds as though using the Microsoft Installer cleanup utility is worth a go.
I will give you a method for removal of iTunes and related programs with clean up, I think you have already done the removal, but just in case you missed anything out.
    ==
Download a fresh copy of iTunes and the stand alone version of Quicktime (the one without iTunes)
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/win.html
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Save the files on your PC.
Download and install Microsoft Installer cleanup utility, there are instructions on the page as well as the download. Note that what you download is the installer not the program – you have to run it to install the program. The installer doesn't give any message to confirm the installation.
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301/
(To run the program – All Programs>>Windows Install)
Now use the following method to remove iTunes and its components:
    XP
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925
    Vista
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923
*If you hit a problem with one of the uninstalls don't worry*, carry on with the deleting of files and folders as directed in the method.
When you get to deleting Quicktime files in the system32 folder as advised in the method, you can delete any file or folder with Quicktime in the name.
    Restart your PC.
Run the Microsoft Installer Cleanup Utility. (Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up)
Remove any references you find to the programs you removed - strictly speaking you only need to worry about those programs where the uninstall failed.
If you don’t see an entry for one of the programs that did not uninstall, look out for blank entries or numeric entries that look like version numbers e.g. 7.x for Quicktime or 1.x for Bonjour.
    restart your PC
Install the stand alone Quicktime and check that it works.
    If it does, install iTunes.

  • Reinstalling iTunes and keep getting this message -Service 'Apple Mobile Device Service'failed to start

Hi, Apologies if this is answered elsewhere but I cannot seem to find help for my issue...
Two weeks ago an iTunes update failed and I've been without iTunes since then.
    I'm running Windows 7
I've tried removing all of the Apple components but every time I reinstall (currently 12.1.1.4) I get the following.
    All my firewalls are switched off, when I go to services and try to start it manually i get this message;
I hope it is something simple that I'm missing?

    Proceed to the next step...

  • Apple Mobile Device Service has stopped working. Vista SP2, iTunes 10.5

Hi there. I've been having an issue syncing my iPhone to iTunes. Here's a description of the problem:
-With an up-to-date Apple Mobile Device Service, error windows constantly pop-up saying that it has stopped working. If I close the error window, another one pops up fifteen seconds later.
-If I plug my iPhone into my computer, it is not recognized in iTunes, because Apple Mobile Device Service is not running.
-This error does not occur on my desktop PC, so I have been able to sync my iPhone by loading all of my files onto a USB and transferring them onto it. However, I would much rather not.
Here are the steps that I have taken:
-Uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes 10.5 with firewall off
-Individually uninstalled and reinstalled the Apple Mobile Device Service with firewall off
-Stopped and Restarted the Apple Mobile Device Service in Administrative Tools -> Services
-Extensively searched the internet for solutions
-Replaced Apple Mobile Device Service for iTunes 10.5 with Apple Mobile Device Service for iTunes 10.1 (This worked PARTIALLY. The error windows have now stopped popping up altogether, but I cannot sync with iTunes because the Apple Mobile Device Service is out of date. It asks me to update it, I agree, and I get the Apple Mobile Device Service that spawns error windows and still does not allow me to sync my iPhone.)
I am running Windows Vista SP2, and iTunes 10.5. My Internet Security suite is AVG Internet Security 2011. My iPhone is running iOS 5.0.0. Here is a full report of the error:

Just a shot in the dark, but have you downloaded any program from Megaupload, like MegaKey?  If so then that is your problem. I had been having the exact same problem for the past 2 weeks. I couldn't figure out what it was and tried everything that you have.. Then was on a board and someone mentioned Megakey. Having tried everything else, I uninstalled the program and reinstalled the current ITunes and AMDS. My Ipad and Iphone connected with no problem.

  • Apple Mobile Device Service is Not Started error

While trying to backup my iPhone iTunes keeps giving me the error saying apple mobile device service is not started. After searching the support forums, reinstalling iTunes and manually starting the service i have found that the service stops when iTunes loads so manually starting it has no effect. I have attempted running it as administrator and as a new user with no success. I have also found that iTunes cannot connect to the iTunes store despite the fact other computers my house can and i have no problem getting online in a browser. Is there anything that i am missing? I am running Windows 7 64-Bit with iTunes 9.1.1.12 64-bit

When you reinstalled iTunes did you completely remove the other installation? Check this article, http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923. If you are not connecting, there is something else going on, especially if the service will not stay running. Try uninstalling completly before the reinstallation.

  • Error 1067 when starting Apple Mobile Device service with Iphone 4S

    Hi,
Excuse me for my bad english but I'm from Spain. I need your help.
When I start Itunes I get an error because Apple Mobile Device service is not started, and when I try to start It from windows services (it's fixed to start automatically but it does not starts on windows start up) I get an 1067 error. I don't have any mega* program installed, wich I've seen could be the cause of the error.
If I install Itunes 10.0 with it's Apple Mobile Device service this service starts with no problem but I can't use Itunes because I get an error when I start Itunes, any version of Itunes under 10.5 don't recognise my Iphone, and in 10.5 and newer versions I do get the famous 1067 error. I tried to reinstall several times/versions but I always get the same error in any version.
    What can I do?
    Thank you.

With a 1067 I'd try the following document. (MegaUpload and MegaKey are the usual culprits, but I've seen other LSP conficts produce the 1067 too.)
Software de Apple en Windows: pueden producirse problemas de rendimiento y iTunes Store aparecer vacío

Than i deleted all appele software from my windows 7 desktop and download the latest version form the appel site.
When installing this had the same message. after pressing ignore the installation continues and itunes tries to launch.
