ITunes download extremely slow on a 300Mbps uVerse connection

Gigapower installed yesterday (W00t!!!) ... everything is flying except ... iTunes downloads
I've tried the following with no improvement
Different DNS servers from the local machine (4.4.4.4, 8.8.8.8, OpenDNS, att standard DNS)
Turning off the firewall
Opening itunes port in gaming for the machine
Sacrificing a pure white goat inside a pentagram while wearing a black turtleneck
Resetting network adapter
Trying from multiple hardwired locations
Speedtest has me at 320Mbps and everything else is flying except streaming any connection to the iTunes store (from Mac, PC, and Apple TVs both wired and wireless).

Having the same problem tonight, trying to download Mary Poppins for my girls and I may as well have dial up...  Speedtest has me at 85 Mbps even while the DL is occurring so has me pondering where the hold up is.

  • ITunes + Ping extremely slow with Library on external HD

    Hi,
My Library is on an external HD connected to an Airport Extreme base station. My MacBook is connected wired to Airport, so there are no possible wifi connection issues.
iTunes is extremely slow since version 10. If I select a song and want to select another one, I've got a spinning beach ball for at least 20s. Change a rating: 20s delay. Every move I make: at least 20s delay...
My guess: every time I select a song, iTunes connects to Ping to fill up the dropdown menu next to the song title. Disabling Ping doesn't help. I tried in Terminal "defaults write com.apple.iTunes hide-ping-dropdown -bool TRUE", but this merely hides the dropdown menu, it doesn't stop the functionality.
iTunes is basically not usable anymore.
    Any suggestions?

If I am currently downloading something from the iTunes Store and I quit iTunes
    Don't quit iTunes.
How can I make iTunes see the interrupted download and not have to restart the download from the beginning?
    You cannot.

Slow in what respect?  Please be specific.

Ummmm, could you ellaborate on how you plan to turn to Windows because iTunes (an application that runs on Windows) is running slow?

  • Why is the itunes download so slow

why is the itunes download so slow - I am trying to download itunes update to recognize my new ipod touch 5th generation and my pc will not even show it in itunes, in trying to download the update the speeds are so slow that it is estimating download time in days.  I have stopped and started the apple in services, but it is still unrecognized.

you know very well it has nothing to do with itunes or the modem/router.  apple servers are very very slow and its an absolute disgrace.
you can download from third party servers at twice the speeds (at your own risk)

  • Itunes starts extremely slow after an update of windows 8.1.

Itunes starts extremely slow after an update of windows 8.1.
It takes up to 10 minutus.
If I see the appliction log in event viewer then I see the following errors on the Bonjour service.
    For instance:
Client application bug: DNSServiceResolve(a8:fa:d8:3a:1e:8f@fe80::aafa:d8ff:fe3a:1e8f._apple-mobdev2._t cp.local.) active for over two minutes. This places considerable burden on the network.
    followed by
SendWakeupPacket error: sent -1 bytes: 10065
    What can this be?
    Already thanks,
    John

I did all the step with save mode and that didn't gave the same result.
Then I created a new account and there itunes started up normally.
So I contued with the user section.
I removed the itunes directory from
    c:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Apple Computer\iTunes
This gave the same result in not starting up.
Then I removed the itunes directory from
    c:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes
The a popup appears that the Bonjour Service has been disabled.
I looked in services and saw that is was still running.
But I tried to restart this service and it took a long time to stop this service.
Even if I selected restart the Bonjour Service didn't start.
Manually starting was not a problem.
Clicking OK on the popup let itunes start quickly. And closing and starting it again was also quickly.
So Matt thanks for your answer.
If it happens again I have to see if it was the removing of the itunes directory from roaming or restarting the Bonjour Service.

  • IOS 8.0.2. download extremely slow ( 15 hours)

Want to update my iPhone to iOS 8.0.2., but software download is extremely slow, showing a download time of 15 hrs. Internet connection is working well, with tests showing speeds of 100 Mbps. Downloads of App updates are very fast as usual too. Is this a server issue? If so, the problem exists since over 8 hours.

If you unplugged the phone from the computer, you have already interrupted the download and install process. An update via iTunes is not a Wifi update, so once it's unplugged, it is not going to start up again.
Reset the device: Hold down the Home and Power buttons at the same time and continue to hold them down until the Apple appears (up to 30 seconds). Once the reset is complete, the "Slide to Unlock" screen will display. Go to Settings>General>About, and see what version number is showing. If it is 8.0.2, then you should be good to go. If it is not, hook the device back up to iTunes and start the update again.
    Cheers,

  • ITunes is extremely slow and I cannot make a secure connection

When I connect to iTunes my computer is extremely slow, and when I try to connect to the iTunes store I get the error message cannot make a secure connection.  I have internet access and I have ran the iTunes diagnostics test and all the tests passed except making a secure connection.  I have disabled all of my security systems including my firewall and Norton.  I am not running any proxy settings.  This has been an ongoing problem for over a month and I am at a loss.

Check out this Apple article -> iTunes: Advanced iTunes Store troubleshooting
Blocked by configuration: (Mac OS X/Windows)
Configure Internet Options (for Windows computers only):
Run iTunes Diagnostics. If the "Secure link to iTunes Store" section does not pass, do the following.
    Open Internet Explorer.
From the Tools menu, choose Internet Options.
    Click Connections.
Under "Dial-up and Virtual Private Networking," choose "Never dial  a connection." It may not be possible to choose this if you’ve never used  dial-up Internet; if this is the case, skip to the next step.
    Click LAN Settings.
In the window that opens, enable the option to "Automatically detect  settings" if it is not enabled.
iTunes uses Internet Options proxy settings. Apple recommends  removing proxy settings that interfere with access to the iTunes Store  if needed.
    Click OK.
    Click the Advanced tab.
Scroll down to the Security section and look for the option to "Check for server certificate revocation." If it is enabled, disable it.
Look for Use SSL 3.0 and Use TLS 1.0. Make sure at least one of  those two checkboxes is selected and click OK (You can select both checkboxes).
Apply any changes, and restart your computer if you modified the option to "Check for server certificate revocation" (step #11).

  • Itunes 8 extremely slow and feezes Vista

    Oh my god,
This is getting worse. If you tought that Itunes 7 and Vista weren't ment for eachother, Itunes 8 and Vista just hate eachother. Itunes 8 is just extremely slow on my fresh installed Vista. It keeps freezing up and sometimes my system won't respond to a thing I am doing thanks to the wonderfull crappy software from Apple...
If this is really all you guys can write then I guess I will have to look for a better software to synch my ipod.

I've definitely noticed that switching between library sections (music, movies, etc.) is much slower in iTunes 8 than it was with ver. 7. So far, it's a teeth gritting annoyance at worst. It improved somewhat when I set all areas to List View, but only somewhat. The program also takes longer to load than version 7 did (sort of unbelievable in itself!), and there WAS one heart stopper of a moment where I thought it had locked up and taken my HP laptop with it, but it came back after 15-20 seconds on its own. I don't have a novice-level PC by any means; it's one of the newest and nicest of the direct-to-retail models, with a Core 2 Duo (P8400), discrete Nvidia 9600M GT w/512MB RAM, and 4GB of system RAM, running Vista HP 64 bit. (Yep, I installed the 64-bit iTunes.) I did notice one other poster mentioned having an HP laptop. Doesn't seem like hardware limitations should be a factor, at least in my case; I hope, whatever the issue turns out to be, that it isn't some total incompatibility with something HP loads on its machines. I'm sure Apple will come up with a bug fix at some point, but since the iPhone 3G became part of my life, it sure seems like a large chunk of that life is spent waiting for Apple to fix bugs and putting up with subpar performance in the meantime. I'm pretty new to things Apple, and I can say quite honestly that all the problems I've had with various iPods, the iPhone 3G, and here and there with iTunes were the reason I chose my current laptop over a MBP. I couldn't stand the idea of spending all that money and getting a lemon. Apple isn't the huge performer I'd always heard it was, not in my experience!

  • Why is itunes download so slow on apple tv (3 days now) but I can download same movie to computer instantly? What has changed?

I rented a movie via itunes on my apple tv 3 days ago. I still cannot view it on my television. I have checked all internet connections, routers, speedtests..etc and have come to the conclusion that it is simply the itunes download on apple tv. I can view netflix no problem on the same apple box.
I now have downloaded the same movie to my computer and am watching almost instantly. What is happening here? I used to rent movies on itunes via apple tv and get almost instant streaming now it's incredibly slow!

It doubful thats its your PC per se, alot of people are reporting the store being alittle on the slow side.
It won't last long, its just apple make all these changes 3-4 days ago, a week or 2 they will have it all str8.
You can overlook your network setup tho, make sure the connection isn't looping around thru ports on the router and slowing you down. I doubt thats it tho, iTUnes increased the resolution of there video, so in turn the files are bigger. This is why iTUnes now has a download manager in it so you can pause things when needed

  • Itunes is extremely slow

After I couldn't open up Itunes for months I finally got it to launch but it's extremely slow. When the music store finally displays it has broken chains for pictures and it responds very slowly. Not doing what I tell it to. The fact that I can't call Apple is extremely disturbing, but I've done my part by telling people not to buy an ipod and get an mp3 player instead.
    Help would be appreciated, thanks.

Reinstalling iTunes shouldn't lose your music files.
But it is ALWAYS a good idea to have backups, esp of purchased files.

  • ITunes Store extremely slow...

There are moments (often) when the iTunes Store is just extremely slow. I'll buy a movie and it will tell me it'll be ready in 3 hours. How am I supposed to watch anything on my iPad or Apple TV?

The widgets weren't working either, clean installs seem to fix everything, even if they take several hours.

  • Extreme slow down when using wireless connection

I did not have a wireless network prior to purchasing the airport express and needed this as I purchased a macbook. My intention was only to use this device as a wireless network. I have my cable modem connected to a linksys router which is connected to the airport express. The internet connection on my macbook is extremely SLOW! I have reset and reinstalled my airport several times, called apple support and trouble shoot for over an hour, however still experiencing the same problems...slow internet connection. In my troubleshooting I have determined that cable modem and connection, router and airport are all working properly. So the only other thing is interference issue. I've tried changing the channels, use interference robustness option however still no results. I just want my laptop internet connection to work fast. This is my last hope otherwise I'm going out tomorrow to buy a wireless Linsys N router. Any suggestions????

Well it turned out to be a DNS configuration problem on the MacBook. If you go to Networks-Advanced in the System Preferences for the Airport connection, then select the DNS TAB. In there I had a spurious DNS entry. I deleted the one that was manually entered in (it's in black text) that way the one I received from the Airport Express was the only one in there (it is greyed out and you can't delete it.)
    Hope that helps.

  • ITunes App and Other Downloads Extremely Slow

I have the latest version of iTunes; however this problem began presenting itself even before my upgrade: apps, songs, podcasts, etc. (basically anything downloaded through iTunes) start dowloading very fast (my connection is a 60 megabit one) and then hang in the middle of downloading. They sit there... trickle downloading at an incredibly slow rate until ultimately, they finish. Stuff that used to take seconds, now takes minutes.
I have my iTunes collection on an external USB drive, which I have verified as working fine in the Disk Utility, and there is still 80GB of free space available. This problem presents itself even when no other applications save iTunes are running. Nothing has changed on my side, so I am wondering if anyone else is experiencing this difficulty.
A side note, this issue doesn't appear when I am downloading anything through the Apple App Store (such as the 300MB or so Mountain Lion update I downloaded in under a minute today).

You have more or less answered your own question, you have too little space on your hard drive. Either put in a bigger one, or offload some of your music and photos/videos onto an external drive. You can use [whatsize|http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/44018] to see which programs are taking up the most space. You can also go to Applications>Utilities>Activity Monitor to see if anything is hogging your CPU. Remember to empty your browser caches and the trash as well.
Let us know if you manage to speed things up,

  • Downloads Extremely Slow

For the past few months my downloads have been insanely slow - I've seen download times as extreme as 3-400 hours for movies. I've cleared caches, histories, restarted, restarted AirPort (dozens of times), switched DNS servers - all kinds of things.
Whenever I restart AirPort I am able to watch the download speed start at say 150 KB/sec and then watch it methodically fall over the next few seconds until it's barely hovering above 2 KB/sec - as it currently is now. As I type I'm downloading the latest version of iTunes (10.5) and currently have a wait time of 9 hours and 30 minutes at 2.9 KB/sec. I haven't updated my iPhone in months because the downloads creep and crawl until they eventually time out, and I no longer download any content from iTunes. Just in the time it's taken me to write the last two sentences my download time has crept up to 12 hours and 10 minutes remaining.
What on earth is going on?
13 hours now. Someone please help - any ideas are more than welcome. I'm at the point where I'll try anything.

I haven't been able to try a wired connection yet. I'm planning on getting the internet wired in this coming week. My internet connection isn't "slow", though- I'm able to browse the internet just fine. Whenever I attempt to download a movie or an update (or something through itunes or apple) the download rate will go up (10-13 mb/sec) but then over a period of time (sometimes seconds, sometimes half an hour or so) it will fall lower and lower, eventually getting so low that the connection is dropped. I've been attempting to update my iPhone to iOS 5 for the past two days.
My download timer currently says (28.5 kb/sec) 82 hours remaining
This isn't limited to huge software updates, though - as movies and music are just as bad.

  • Why is the Yosemite download EXTREMELY slow?

I have the fastest internet available in my area and I usually download movies and other files of similar size to the Yosemite upgrade in just a few hours. When starting the download of Yosemite the download time was estimated at roughly 5 days 20 hours. I download digital copies of movies from apple all the time with no problem so why is Yosemite taking so long to download? I have confirmed that it's not a problem with my internet connection and my Macbook does not have connectivity issues either. Someone please tell me that OS X Yosemite will finish downloading sometime in this lifetime!
