Itunes download freezes

I got a new hp laptop last week, running Windows 7(64 bit), and have been trying to download itunes, but can't. Each time I try, the download process just freezes and after a while a message pops up saying that the operation has timed out. I have contacted norton to check if it's my anti-virus, as well as contacting hp to get a solution, but both say it must be a software issue. I have tried to disable the firewall, run download as administrator, even downloaded firefox to see if the problem was internet explorer, but download still continues to freeze. Any help would be greatly appreciated, as I would really like to get my new computer fully setup.

Thanks, e!
I am connecting to the internet wirelessly through a Belkin Wireless G Plus MIMO Router
Given the other possibilities you've ruled out, the finger of suspicion is pointing firmly at the router.
Here's a bunch of things we can try:
(1) If feasible, try connecting to a different wireless network (thus bypassing the router) and see if you can manage a successful download on the other network.
(2) If that's not feasible, and you have a cable handy, try connecting the PC to the router by the cable and seeing if you can get a successful download.
(3) If no luck with that, check to make sure the firmware on the router is up to date. These Belkin support documents may be of assistance with that:
[Where do I find my router’s family, model, and version number?|http://en-us-support.belkin.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/383/session/L2F 2LzEvc2lkL09PVGZBOVNq]
[Upgrading the router's firmware|http://en-us-support.belkin.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/497/related/1/ session/L2F2LzEvc2lkL09PVGZBOVNq]
(4) If still no luck after updating firmware, and if your router model has a built-in firewall, try temporarily disabling that and attempting a download.
(5) If still no luck, try downloading an iTunes installer onto another PC. Here's a direct link through to the 64-bit installer download:
http://support.apple.com/kb/DL925
Copy the iTunes64Setup.exe to a large-enough thumb drive, an external HD or burn it to a CD-R (Apple Stores are quite often happy enough enough to do that for you), carry the installer back to your PC, copy it onto your hard drive, and start the install by doubleclicking the iTunes64Setup.exe.
... any joy with any of those procedures?

  • ITunes download freeze-up

I have tried to download iTunes 10 to a brand new HP computer about 10-15 time with no luck.  The download stops with a few seconds/% remaining everytime.  I have tried everything that the apple and microsoft help site say to do (spyware off, registers cleared, etc, etc, etc).  What the heck is going on? Help!

similar problem, and I sometimes get "can't load wrong format" warniings for non-purchased mv4 and mp4 content. Previously I'd given-up trying but recently a need for traveling movies has raisd the issue again.

Have you tried using "Disk Utility" to repair your disk permissions? You may want to contact AppleCare for assistance on this one, sounds like it may be something else then just iTunes.

ublishing product information bit, any ideas?

I went in to the itunes folder in "c:/program files/itunes' and launched it from there, I discovered it would launch itunes.exe without the configuration. So I just deleted all the itunes shortcuts from the start menu and desktop and recreated them from the itunes.exe in the program files folder.

My iTunes keeps freezing everytime I try to download a purchased song. Working 10.5.8. Help!

You may need to update to iTunes 10.7, which would require OS X 10.6.8.
But you can first try to reboot your computer and router/modem

each time i try syncing my ipod with itunes, it freezes itunes and i end up having to shut down my computer.  This started happening after the latest download and my latest purchase.  The latest purchase doesn't show up on my iPod and itunes freezes at synching step 2 on 2.  Any suggestions?

You should Reset your iPod, by
    1. Press Menu and Center button simultaneously for about 10 Secs till the Apple Logo comes ON.
    2. Disconnect the sync cable.
    3. Check the iPod Welcome screen, select language, go to menu (if you are lucky, your music are still on the iPod.)
if your iPod doesn't show the Welcome screen, bring it to Apple Store.
If the above is okay, (can see Menu but no Music)
    4. Close iTunes and Reboot your PC.
    5. Start iTunes
    6. Connect the iPod to the Sync cable.
    7. if iTunes ask to Restore, please do so.
    8. Sync your iPod. ( I would advise you to disconnect from Internet and stop the Antivirus program when doing this.)
    Good Luck.

  • ITunes 8 freezes iMac during downloads

iTunes 8 repeatedly causes my iMac to freeze while downloading songs. This has happened 5 or 6 times since I purchased my iMac a few months ago. This never seems to happen while downloading a TV show or Podcast -- only when I purchase an album of music. The only recourse is to shut off my computer and re-start, but the interrupted songs are not available for download after re-start. Any ideas what is causing this? iTunes customer service re-posts the missing songs, but they offer no clue on how to solve the underlying problem.

Download iTunes (http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/) and install it over your current installation. This will not affect any of your music or videos and may solve your problem.

  • ITunes Store freeze while downloading and now permanent problems

I bought an album through the iTunes Store today, and while downloading, iTunes completely froze. Not sure how that freeze was caused, could be that I was using up a little too many system resources with other stuff running in the background.
In any case, the album was only partially downloaded, so when I restarted iTunes I used the "search for available downloads" option to succesfully download the rest of the album, or so I thought. Turns out it did download all songss except for one, and that one doesn't show up anymore when I retry the "available downloads" option.
Strangely, whenever I now select one of the other songs from the same album in my library, iTunes completely freezes! I can only get it working again by stopping the process through taskmanager and restarting. This only occurs when the Genius-bar is shown, so it looks like looking up these songs through the iTunes store is causing a problem somehow. Does anyone have any ideas to
    a) get the missing song from the store and
    b) keep iTunes from crashing??
Is there a way to deinstall and reinstall iTunes without losing my settings, iPhone backups and library? Or can I repair an installed version somehow?
(I have the most recent iTunes version (8.0.1.11), running on WinXP SP3 - oh and it did synch the incomplete album to my iPhone and I can play the songs without problems on that)

Deleting the album, reinstalling iTunes and then re-downloading the album turned out to be the way to fix it.

  • Itunes keeps freezing when trying to download podcasts

Ok before when i had 6.0 or something like that i was able to download 80 podcasts no problem now i ever since i updated to 7.0 my itunes would freeze everytime i download a podcast and since im subscribe to my podcasts itunes downloads them automatically. I have xp btw. Everytime i download a new software its the same problem, i tried to repair it reinstall it uninstalled it then installed it again, and i get the same thing. The only way itunes will work is if i turn off the internet which i prefer not to do because it might not turn off again. I tried to minimize the amount of podcasts that i download but it freezes anytime it wants. What is going on and how do i fix it?!

I'm having a similar problem. I purchased a brand new HP Pavilion Media Center last week and installed the latest iTunes (7.3.2.6). Basic functionality was fine until I started setting up all my podcasts. If I subscribe to them too fast (ie - click subscribe on 6-10 of them within 10-15 seconds), the whole UI completely locks up and I have to hard boot the computer. Last night I was just updating/downloading a couple subscriptions while reading email and the whole computer locked up again. Very frustrating when it's a new computer!

  • ITunes Update download freeze

Repeated attempts to download an iTunes update hang-up at 30.80mb of 35.95mb. Any solutions?

There's a couple of things you can try with that one.
    (1) You could try doing the update using an iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe) downloaded from the Apple website:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
    (2) You could try doing a "Run as Administrator" with your Apple Software Update.
Quit Apple Software Update first if you've got it open.
In Computer (or My Computer, on XP) open your C Drive or whichever drive you have your program files installed on.
If you've got a 32-bit Windows, open the "Program files" folder.
If you've got a 64-bit Windows, open the "Program files (x86)" folder.
Open the "Apple Software Update" folder.
Right-click on the "SoftwareUpdate.exe" file and select "Run as Administrator", as per the following screenshot:
Does ASU show you the iTunes update now?

After upgrading to iTunes 11, it freezes every time I try to plug in my iPhone 4s- I don't even have automatic syncing on.  I've tried everything- waiting, running in comptibility mode with Vista, Win 7, XP and etcettera, ending various processes and more.  I'm at my wits end.  Could someone offer me a solution?

  • How can I reformat my ipod 20gb when itunes/laptop freezes

    Hi there
Last year my ipod did exactly the same thing but I was talked through how to solve the issue by a guy in support. Now they want to charge me £25 for their help, even though I was out of warranty last year!
This is what's happening. My ipod has started to show the folder icon with an exclamation mark. It's a bit sporadic (sometimes it shows, sometimes it doesn't) and will then show the menu selection. When I choose to play an album, it thinks about it for a while, makes a lot of clicking noises and then may play, or may exit back out to the main menu.
When I try to connect my ipod to itunes, it freezes itunes, so I am unable to reformat (this is what fixed it last time). How, therefore, do I reformat my ipod when itunes, or windows explorer etc freezes when the ipod is connected to my laptop? I don't believe this is a Vista issue as I was using Windows XP last time my ipod cocked up. Any ideas how I can get my ipod reformatted?
    Thanks in advance.

Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.

If recovery mode does not work try DFU mode.

    To restore from backup see:

If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.
You can redownload iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
