ITunes Download Manager = Very SubPar

Internet Bandwidth is low and usage is metered and expensive where I am stationned now.
ITunes failed to download IOS6 a dozen times, all after it had downloaded hundreds of megabytes.
So I am left with a very large bill to pay to my ISP and no IOS upgrade.
Simple and Free FTP clients based on 40 year old technology solved this problem over 10 years ago.
How come ITunes feels it necessay to redownload the first 3/4 of a very large file, again and again.
Wake up folk.....  That (at the very least)  ***** technically.
But really for those of us forking over dollars and hours to do so: it is  a human tragedy.
Let's start a charity to help ITunes Users or fix the ITunes technical issues.

The problem is with ITunes.  The Problem is ITunes designers missed something. The problem is easy to fix within ITunes. The problem is not elsewhere.
The problem will not cost much to repair.
(yes repair) it is a defect when all of our competitors have employed better download management than ours.
It is a defect when our customers have to live with a sub-par feature which causes them any level of pain.
Apple has some of the best products on the planet. It should not shame us to admit that we need improvement anywhere in our product line-up.
When I was at Apple we did not shy away from issues our customers pointed out to us. That is how we became the best. I strongly beleive that Apple is still upholding the same values.
Finally you probably missed the fact that I was stationned where I have no ISP choices. You also have not reviewed the number of Apple devices that my current benefactor have forked out money to acquire. And that their loyalty is probably of high importance to Apple.
The info I gave in the initial case report is crucial to the dev team. It may have lost you, but it "ain't" cryptic.
If you do not have an answer that helps, stay off.
Remember the only two options for me to rate your answer state that either your answer solved my case or your answer helped direct me. Keep your answers within that.

Hi MikiTheKing, sorry to hear that you are having issue with connecting to your T.V..  Just so I have a better understanding on the situation, how are you connecting the computer to the T.V.?   Are you using a HDMI cable or is this wireless to a Smart T.V.?  What is the version of Windows you are using on your computer (Windows xp, Vista, 7 or 8-8.1)?

Go to the View menu and turn on the Status Bar. If you don't see the menus, go to the small icon with the arrow at the extreme upper left and select "Show Menu Bar":

  • How do I stop itunes from downloading a very large apps that I downloaded direct to my iphone?

To get around my 5GB limit for internet service, I download a very large (350MB) dictionary app directly to my iphone using a wireless website run by a merchant in town. Now every time I run itunes, it wants to download the app. Is there any way I can stop itunes from attempting the download?

Some types of issues, such as that one, can't be resolved by the volunteer support here. If I think a request can be answered in the boards but was posted in the wrong part of them, I'll just ignore the fact it's in the wrong place.

  • EMusic Download Manager Won't Launch since iTunes Update.

    Hi,
Since updating to iTunes 7.3.1 my eMusic Download Manager no longer launches.
I booted from a FireWire disk which doesn't have the iTunes and QuickTime updates, but otherwise is an exact clone and it launched from there.
Any of you guys hit that problem?
Thanks in advance for any help:-)
    iMac   Mac OS X (10.4.10)   Intel, 20-inch, 2.33GHz

Well, I just checked. Download Manager launched appropriately for me. I have all the latest updates.
One thought, what browser are you using? I know Safari got a bump recently. It is possible if you downloaded that at the same time as the iTunes update, if may actually be the problem.
If my previous suggestion didn't work, try this. When you click on "Download All" in emusic, if the Download Manager doesn't launch, a small file with a numeric name and the file extension .emp should still download. Control-click on the file and make sure that files of that type are set to be opened by Download Manager.
You might also try consulting the emusic folks.
    Best of luck

  • Any ways around iTunes poor download manager?

Does anyone else get frustrated that a paused download will not resume from the point it had reached - it always reverts to 0Kb downloaded and starts again. This is particularly frustrating to those of us who must still use dial-up or low speed bradband connections. The download manager for Software Update seems similarly afflicted - with many updates it is possible to navigate to a page from which I can add the download to a manager program such as Speed Download. Is Apple working on improving this limitation? Are there other ways around it?

I have the same problem as well. For many different reasons I keep getting my connection cut and cant resume the download from where it left off. It's getting really annoying especially when you are trying to get a +450MB file.
You would think that the developers would have thought to make sure that iTunes and other Apple apps could resume downloads esp since this has been a feature of most internet apps even as far back as the gopher days!!
I made a previous post about this issue here:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=699061&tstart=0
But so far no one seems to have any practical suggestions or ideas. I wish I could simply FTP the file directly--it would be so much nicer especially with a program that has auto-shutdown features and the like.
Anyway, maybe if we squeek enough it will be included in iTunes 7.0.X

  • I am trying to download a very large tarball ( 100 GB) but I can't open tha archive. I am wondering if the download manager may be truncating the file.

I downloaded a large .tar file (should be over 100 GB) and tried to unpack it with 7zip, but I got an error message saying "Can not open file 'X.tar' as archive." I am trying to download it again in case it was just a random corruption or something, but since I have a few hours to kill, I was wondering if the problem may be that there is a limit to the size of files the download manager will handle.

Hi Salmonarm, <br/>Sorry no one replied earlier, you have probably solved the problem yourself by now.
I am not aware of any Firefox limitations on download size.
Are there any systems available for checking for corruption. Often downloads have hash values that can be used to check.
Also do you know the compressed file size, does it appear to have downloaded fully.
Are you running into limitations due to available folder or file size on your drive or file system.

  • Any Download Manager available for Macs?

Very often when I'm downloading large software updates I either lose internet connection or I close the cover on my Mac and the downloading is interrupted. Every time this hapens I need to restart the download. My internet connection is not very fast, so it takes a few hours (2-5) to download (or re-download) files of 30 to 70MB.
Is there any download manager program that can help continue the download from the point where it got interrupted?

    LariR-
I'm not familiar with either of the download helpers but since you mention specific Mac products I am wondering if it is the nature of the download that means they aren't working. iTunes, Quicktime, and OSupdates may be using some kind of internal updater feature that the download helpers are not detecting. These kind of updates are usually also available from a website instead of using the updater feature inside the program you are updating. This may help the tool detect the download. I notice that at least one of the tools lets you enter URL directly into it. You could, for example, find the Quicktime update you want, then enter the URL of the file into the download helper directly.
Firefox has extensions you can add. Two, Download Statusbar, and Download Helper, might possibly have a feature that would help you, but you would need to read the information to check -- fortunately I don't have broken connections!

  • How to stop iTunes downloading apps to macbook

I have just bought my first iPad (mini) and have used iTunes for syncing music and books.
    Have also bought some apps.
Today when I turned iTunes on in my Macbook it accesses the iTunes store as normal but now a screen comes up and it is downloading all the apps I have bought for the iPad onto the mac (presumably).
As I am on a very limited broadband allowance with a 3G network I would like to stop this happening..
I have disable automatic downloading in the store tab of the preference pane but still downloading everytime I open iTunes..
I can't see anything to make it stop happening on the iTunes download screen that pops up all I can do is pause the downloads , which start up again as soon as I open iTunes next time.
My iPad is just Wi-fi not cellular too.
    Thanks

this is what is supposed to happen, and is by design.
I am continuously frustrated by this "design." My iTunes machine is a MacBook that does not have nearly as much disk capacity as the ATV. So consequently my MacBook disk is full backing up my ATV. This is ridiculous. Apple ought to figure out how to let the Time Capsule be the backup for the ATV and not the iTunes machine.
Poor design if you ask me.
the appletv is an itunes extender, and as such of course it needs to connect to itunes.
the storage location of your data is irrelvant really. you can have it on a time machine, however you still need itunes to manage the content.
if this is not suitable for you, then you most likely have bought the wrong device for your needs.

  • HT1311 I live in Indonesia and the iTunes store is very limited . Can i use the australian store with my current iTunes log in ?

Hi , Ilive in Bali Indonesia and my online itunes account is very limited .. How can i keep my apple id and use a different countries store to buy music etc ?

You can only buy content from your own country's store - to be able to buy from the Australian store you need a valid billing address in Australia and be in Australia when buying from it. Do you have access to other music purchase download sites ?

  • Windows says the itunes download file is corrupt and will not install

Im trying to install itunes on my new windows 8 pc.  It seems to recognize my software and takes me to a download the 64 bit file (iTunes64Setup.exe).  Once the download completes, the file appears in my windows download manager with the message "The signature of this program is corrupt or invalid".  If I right click and chose install anyway, I get a message saying that Windows prevented this from running.
I then found the 32bit download file (iTunesSetup.exe).  I get the same results as above.  Any ideas how to fix this?

I get that all the time with all sorts of programmes.  I normally shut down my pc, unplug it, wait for the light to go out on the back, plug back in reboot and it works (with most of my downloads) try this, it might fix it, it might not.  I tried this the other day after it kept telling me it was corrupt, then it came down and installed fine.  I do this now with every update of every program, if I forget they will all say they have an 'invalid signature' or 'corrupt from source file' etc.  Hope this helps you.  Also I have to do this before I download music as well, because otherwise it seems to come down with the stupid DRM still on the file, meaning I can't put it on my ipod, convert it or even play it on my system.

  • ITUNES downloads from store causing BSOD windows stop error- Please Help!

    Hi everyone,
maybe someone can help me out or knows how to fix this problem.
    Problem in detail:
This problem started since I updated to the latest version of itunes 7 to download video for my ipod video 30gb. Itunes worked perfect on my computer before updating as I used it with an ipod mini.
I was able to use my new IPOD 30gb fine and transfer all my music to it correctly.
The main problem occurrs when downloading anything from itunes store...1st noticed this when my podcasts were updating and downloading and then the system suddenly crashed with the windows blue screen error message and had to reboot. This happened multiple times so I disabled the automatic downloads of podcasts. Itunes then works fine when not downloading anything.
I then tried purchasing a TV show, whole series, and when it began downloading, the Exact same Error and Blue screen will occur--Very Frustrating.
I uninstalled ITUNES and Quicktime, and then reinstalled them via the latest download from itunes. The same errors still occur.
When windows reboots and sends error report to Microsoft, it states the error is due to a Driver error of which the specific driver is not known.
I have called apple/itunes support and spoke with them and they could not figure out the problem and said I should check with my computers cust service and/or microsoft as it was probably something on this end...I did this and they stated the problem must be something with itunes and especially since all other programs run fine on my system.
SO basically I am going in circles trying to figure this out so I am hoping someone here may know how to fix this problem.
Not only that, but I tried the same on my desktop as I figured I could at least download my podcasts and purchases to my desktop and then transfer to my ipod from there(as I am mainly using my labtop for my ipod) and updated my desktop to itunes 7 latest version,, and figured it would work on my desktop with same operating system----but it Caused the SAME error BSOD as my labtop and in same fashion....only when downloading from itunes.
ANy help is much appreciated as I got the ipod video mainly because of ITUNES video content and podcasts and if I cannot use these major functions on ITUNES than This Was a Complete Waste for me to get the Video IPOD.
Hope there is a way to fix
    Thanks

I afraid can’t help much with this, but no one else
has answered. It does seem very odd that two
different computers have the same problem. It makes
you wonder about the content you were trying to
download. As a matter of interest was the
installation for both computers done from the same
    download file?
When your computer dies, can you read the stop
message or does it disappear, if it does, go to
    Control Panel>System>Advanced
Click Settings in Start Up and Recovery and make sure
that Automatically Restart is no checked.
You should be able to get a stop number from the blue
screen and you may also be able to identify the
filename of a driver, which could give a clue to the
    problem.
The Microsoft Website has a certain amount of help on
specific stop messages, you can search for the number
of the stop message which will be something like
    0x0000000A.
There is also some help on troubleshooting stop
    messages here:
    http://aumha.org/win5/kbestop.htm
    Thanks for your reply.
As far as the content being downloaded from itunes---consisted of different podcasts and also on a separate occasion-the tv show Heroes complete season on ITUNES..So I would guess the error has nothing to do with the content being downloaded.
The ITUNES installation for both computers was from the same itunes download file on this website on apples itunes free download.
I did not write down the most recent stop numbers and no drivers seemed to be named on the blue screen from what I could tell, but I guess I could be missing something...
From a previous crash with the BSOD- the error message listed was this: STOP: 0x00000050 (0xbad0b158, 0x00000000, 0x8056ea22, 00000002)
not sure if this helps maybe figure out the cause of this or not.
Maybe this will help get to the bottom of this.
    Thanks

  • I need to know the location where iTunes downloads software to, it is filling up my hard drive.

I need to know the location where iTunes downloads software to, it is filling up my hard drive.
I am trying to put my iPhone4 into recovery and then will restore it. iTunes starts extracting the software.  But the iPhone reboots and by the time the software has completed extraction, the iPhone can no longer be seen by iTunes.
We have a very small hard drive on our laptop.  Each time iTunes does an extraction, it uses up more space on the C: drive.
Nothing frees up that used drive space. Not closing iTunes or rebooting the computer. Nothing.
How do we release / delete these files?
