ITunes download times RIDICULOUSLY long

It's 7pm in Paris and I thought I'd try out an iTunes movie rental for this evening after dinner. Fat chance. Clicked 'rent' and now iTunes is telling me it will take 5 HOURS to download the movie. Mind you, I just did a Speed Test and my current download capability is 14.07mbps.
Has anyone figured out any solution/explanation for this or is it just Apple's servers? A 5-hour download time is ABSURD for a 2-hour movie!

PS I'm not even downloading the HD version...

  • What to do with old itunes downloads I no longer want?

I mean if they were old CD's I no loner wanted they could either be sold on or given away...
The issue is this; i have about 5 or 6 tunes i brought from iTunes that i no longer want! do i just delete them or is there a way i can exchange them for some new tunes? Their about 6 or 7 years old, a couple are the first wrong mixes i brought off iTunes! before i found the preview button. I would like to know what my option are here... There is no way i want them in my Library...
    Thanks

Let's face it - buying music is cheaper now than it ever has been. Yes, really!
I'm old enough to remember how much I paid for my first ever:
Single - (a seven inch vinyl record).
LP - (Album, or twelve inch vinyl record)
    CD
In 1967, (in the UK) the price I paid for my first three 7" singles would have got me 60 Mars Bars (a UK chocolate bar).
In 2014, (in the UK) the price I now pay for three MP3 tracks will get me just five Mars Bars
Just as well that I don't like chocolate anymore...
Oh! and that first LP cost the same as 120 Mars Bars (costs had gone up a little). Today, the price of a full digital album typically gets me just 20 Mars Bars!

However lets not forget that there are still Markets, Communities and even Trade Fairs that revolve around secondhand music; so there not attached to LP's... The main point I leave with here is not having an aftermarket value just depreciates a downloads overrule value..
It's debatable whether a lack of second hand market (sorry, it's still "second hand" not aftermarket) for digital music reduces the value of the original. (Personally, I suspect it doesn't. People don't "treasure" their music as much as they used to, many regard their digital downloads as disposable.) But let's face it, the music industry (read, the record labels) have never been that smart about the technology their business relies upon, so why would they think to care about the second hand market? And as for the musicians who loudly protested (in the past) on behalf of the record companies, they couldn't have made a worse job of it if they had tried.
Actually, what's really funny is your attempt at deleting the digital music:
i did just delete them but since the introduction of icloud i keep finding them in my Library

  • HT1577 iTunes download times

Sometimes I find download times on iTunes are almost instantaneous. I press download and a few seconds later iTunes asks if I want to play the movie or TV episode. Then I play it. Other times it is much, much slower. Like a half hour to for an hour program. The demands on my internet are the same on both occasions. What gives?

What web browser are you using for the download, Ltoko? Does it make any difference if you use IE (say) rather than Firefox, or vice versa?

  • Itunes download times out

Just purchased the new my chemical romance album, and the itunes store didnt want to download the 4th song, but got all the others done, so i re-check for purchases and it starts downloading until it hits 1.0 mb, then the download count-down timer just goes up and the download speed goes down until it finally just tells me it timed out, its done it all day, i thought maybe it was something wrong with the itunes store and they would realize it and fix it but now its night and i did this at like 6 in the morning, so it must be something else wrong, i paid for this album and i cant get it all, someone please help.

  • Itunes downloading time issue

when i download new music,tv shows, updates, etc and every time the time it shows when downloading the item always says like 10 minutes and then it goes to like 15 minutes and then back to 10 minutes and so on. how can i fix that.
    thanks in advance

Bummer, sounds like it might be some bug, then, if itunes 7 is OK.
How about your import settings - are you using MP3, AAC, AIFF, or what?
If MP3, are you using VBR?
Does it work with any other import setting, so you could report it to Apple?

  • Download time too long

Why is it taking too long to download a song?  Im talking HOURS if it even happens!

Could you download the graphics dynamically as they are required?
So, the air app would be the master 'app' and those additional
graphics are loaded from your server only when required? I'd bet this
would be the way you'd build it if the app were purely based online
    and not via air?

  • HT1577 Why am I experiencing long download times for an HD movie rental from itunes?

I have been experiencing long download times for movie rentals from itunes (this time 11 hours).  I have even tried to use ethernet, turn off simultaneous downloads, and shut down my browser, to speed up the time but that didn't help.  My internet download speed is about 7mbps.  Any suggestions?

  • Yosemite is taking a ridiculously long time to download.

Ive been trying to download from the app store all weekend and I keep getting stumped by these estimated download times of 1-3 days. I know its not my internet speed because everything else is running fine and downloading at their normal speeds. I was able to download that 1G garage band update yesterday in about 15 minutes.
Is this just a problem with the app store?
    Thanks!

I've been trying to download for days, and all I get after clicking "download" is a spinning wheel up in the top-left corner of the App Store window.
It will spin for a few minutes or for hours, and then go away.
    And that's all that happens.
Currently it's been spinning for about 12 hours.

  • I upgraded to Mtn. Lion last night but now it takes forever to boot up.  I get to the desktop and my wallpaper is there, but the items on my desktop take more than 5 minutes to load.  It's a ridiculously long time.  Can I fix it somehow?

As I said, I upgraded my MacBook Pro (2011) from Lion to Mountain Lion last night.  This morning I couldn't get it to boot up at all.  The beach ball just spun and spun.  Now I can get it to my desktop and can see my wallpaper, but it takes another FULL five minutes to finish loading my desktop items.  Can I do anything to speed this up?  It's a ridiculously long time to wait.  I haven't even tried opening any applications yet.

4a) Accept Third-party Cookies -> under "Keep Until" select "They Expire"
-> REMOVE CHECKMARK from Last Option (CLEAR HISTORY WHEN FIREFOX CLOSES)
-> click the Favicon (small drop down menu icon) on Firefox SearchBar (its position is on the Right side of the Address Bar) -> click "Manage Search Engines" -> select unwanted search engines and click Remove -> click OK

  • A film I downloaded is no longer available in iTunes Store

A film I have purchased from the iTunes Store is no longer listed when i do a search (top right hand of iTunes application.  For the avoidance of doubt the podcast associated with the film does come up so I am sure I am typing the name correctly) and therefore no longer available to download following a recent, accidental, delete!
Is there anything I can do to get the film back or is this one of the penalties of NOT purchasing a proper DVD and something I must expect to happen from time to time?

    Dear King_Penguin,
I do hope you don't mind me troubling you a little further on this topic but in light of your kind reply I would like to know if there is a "Built-in" backup option in iTines, beyond the one I found on the Apple Support Forum (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1751), which suggests one simply copie (drag & drop) the ...iTunes\music\ folder to a secondary hard disk OR offers the "Backup to Disk" option which requires countless CD/DVD's to backup a library of more than a few Gigabytes, which any library containing a few movies would easily exceed?
Once again many thanks for your kind reply,
    youse sincerely,
    Andreas.

  • VERY long download times for movie rental

I tried to rent a movie for a recent trip and I was unable to download the movies to put them onto my ipod touch. The download times were 12 to 18 HOURS!!! I left the download going overnight and it still had 10 hours to go in the morning. I have a cable connection and I tried to download at home and again at the hotel that I was staying at. It was the same both places.
I am now heading home and still have not been able to download the movies. Of course the charge went against my account right away. Apple had no problem downloading the money!
Any sugggestions or ideas what may be wrong?

I was having the same trouble today with buying a movie on iTunes. I started last night to download a movie that was over 2 gb. It was moving very, very slow. I checked my download speed several times. I left my computer on overnight to download it. This morning, the files was at 110 mb downloaded!!! After tweaking and checking online for the possible fixes, I gave up and switched over to download via my laptop. It took about 14 minutes to download the darned thing. I think it might be that something is wrong with my desktop. Funny thing is, that I have downloaded a number of movies on my desktop with no problem, except for a rental that would not play long ago.

My iPhone 4S will not sync to iTunes. I've download the newest version of iTunes several times but when plugging my phone in it says "The iPhone cannot be used because it requires iTunes version 10.6.3 or later." HELP!

If you're using Windows try uninstalling iTunes and all of its components as by following this guide exactly: Windows XP or Windows Vista/7, then reinstall the latest version of iTunes.  You must follow this guide exactly or it will not be successful.  Note: uninstalling iTunes will only remove the application; it will not touch your iTunes library or data.
