ITunes downloaded video...no sound when transferred to iPod

I posted this question a while back and a "b noir" took me through putting the sample video on my iPod (it wouldn't play audio either) and upgrading the software on my iPod. Neither of these things did anything to remedy the situation. The video I downloaded from iTunes plays in iTunes, QuickTime, Windows Media Center, etc... with full audio but not on my iPod.
If anyone has any other suggestions, I would appreciate hearing from you.

Appreciate the response...our situations are slightly different. I assumed from the thread that you were dealing with video that had to be converted. I am dealing with video purchased straight from iTunes and shouldn't need anything but uploading to the iPod.
My iPod plays the video from start to finish flawlessly yet silently. b stopped short of having me restore the iPod opting instead to have me upgrade the software (which didn't solve the issue).
I didn't know if b had any other ideas short of restoring the unit. It's been several days since I heard anything that is the reason for the new thread.

  • Distortion of sound when replaying downloaded music CDs or when transferred to ipod

I have just purchased new HP Pavilion G6 1165SA loaded with Windows 7
I store my CDs on I-tunes and have successfully transferred all previously downloaded CDs.
However, having just downloaded from CD  six new CDs I find that while 2 have downloaded successfully, 4 of the CDs have extreme distortion on play back on la top and also when transferred to ipod. Of those downloaded, No 2 and 6 were successful but the others distorted.
All Cds play without distortion when played without downloading and on other CD players.
    Can you advise?

    Welcome to the Forum, RDBates,
This is not my area of expertise - hopefully someone will offer some "expert" help.
Meanwhile - I will try to help, at least maybe get you pointed in a direction that will help you help yourself.
There are options for listening to the music while it is on the system.  Most of the time it is not useful to change these options because the onboard speakers and the onboard audio cannot deal with the changes.  However, it depends on how the music was recorded, (and how much you know about the individual recordings), your individual hardware and software...
    Things to try...
iTunes is fussy.  Turn off all the "EQ" settings, make a plain recording without any bass, treble, anything, and transfer "cold".  I don't know if this is even possible.  I do not know one would do that.  I do know that when it's not working right, reducing the variables is one of the basic troubleshooting steps in most situations.
    Audio Check:
Make sure your drivers are happy - yes, the system is new, so it's likely all is in order.  Check your audio drivers and make sure they are not showing little errors (yellow bits on the icons).  If you like, right click and check the properties.  If you find anything with a "yellow" warning icon on it, right click on it and update the driver.  If it gets complicated, come back and ask for help.
Control Panel --> Device Manager --> audio
    Bits:
Next is the adjustment for sample rate and bit rate.  It is likely too late to adjust significantly once the music has been downloaded, even assuming you knew the original information and could control it (which is usually not possible given the restrictions of the notebook hardware).  Having said that, it may be possible to make the listening experience better by changing this setting.  Keep it down in the 16 Bit range when/if you rip - unless you have some reason to know otherwise about your equipment.  (Putting it at 24bit makes larger files and won't ordinarily increase the quality - it could harm it.)
Start with "Bit, 48000 Hz (DVD Quality)" and go from there...
Right-Click on the Sound icon (in your Taskbar)  --> Playback devices --> Properties --> Advanced
    Enhancements:
It may not help with distortion, but I've heard that this next setting can help with the awful "highs" and "lows" that folks hear from their systems, that is, first something is too loud and then it's too soft.  If this is not a problem, then don't adjust this setting - it's best to leave all Enhancements "Disabled" unless you need them.
Select and Check "Loudness Equalization" in Enhancements, if needed
Right-Click on the Sound icon --> Properties --> Enhancements
NOTE:  There are a couple of other "Enhancements" - "Virtual Surround" and "Room Correction"... this is not a Bose system and you'll probably be better off just ignoring these.  Just my opinion:  adding variables to a bad situation may not help and could just make the mess worse.
    Options for Ripping Music
If you are using the onboard software (Window Media Player on some systems) for ripping music, then be sure to look at the onboard (system) Help file under (search for) "ripping music".  If you are not using the onboard software, then you might try it as a benchmark.
    Graphics:
    I hope this helps!
    Good Luck!
I'd be interested to know if any of this helped.
    Kudos are earned!
    Kind Regards,
    Dragon-Fur

where can I download new mail sound when new mail comes in?
    Thank you,
    BigBlaze

Go to Mail Preferences, use the drop-down "new mail sounds". The very last option is ADD/REMOVE. You can choose a sound that will be copied to your own User Library.
To find how many sounds you already have on the computer (TONS if you have any games) just to a search the computer for aiff or aif. Copy the file you like to the desktop so you can find it easily, and add it using the above instructions.
The sound gets copied to your library, so you can delete the desktop file when you're done.

  • Slow iTunes downloads from Ariport Expess when used as a range extender

I am having trouble with iTunes downloads - especially large files - when my Mac Book is connected to the internet through my Airport Express, which is acting as a range extender. If I take the Mac Book to the area in my house where the Airport Extreme is the wireless source, downloads are no problem. Does anyone know what the issue might be?

    Welcome to Apple's discussion groups.
Are your AirPort base stations both newer 802.11n units that support the network "extend" option?
The problem may be that the AirPort Express is too far from the AirPort Extreme. It doesn't matter how strong a signal your Mac receives from the Express if the Express receives a weak signal from the Extreme. Ideally the Express should be half way between the Extreme and where you want to use your Mac.
You can use the advice in this thread to investigate the signal and noise levels that the AirPort Express sees:

  • ITunes Downloading Video Podcasts - Hangs a few minutes on save

I have iTunes 8 (but this has been going on in older versions)
On a Win XP Pro laptop with 2GB Ram, and a 10mb Internet connection.
When I download new podcasts, the video podcasts download OK, but when each one completes the download and I assume is saving it to iTunes, the iTunes program seems to Hang. I can't do anything in iTunes, the little spinning whell stops, and I have to just sit there for 30 seconds to a min. until it frees up and starts downloading the next podcast. It happens on every video podcast, but not on the audio ones. Anything I can do to fix that? It's anoying.

Seem to be having a similar issue. Has started just recently so something must have changed although I'm not sure what. Maybe a Windows update has broken something?
Download any content from the store, it'll appers in the download folder but is never renamed or transfered into the correct sub folder.
    "  iTunes/Downloads/content_name.tmp/download.m4v  "
Disabled Anti-Virus / Firewall to no effect. Don't think there has been any other system changes that would affet this aside from windows updates.
Windows 7 64bit SP1 running the same 10.2.2.12 build of iTunes.

  • New iTunes download delets my sound card

Everytime I try to download the new version of iTunes it delets my sound card. I would return to the older version but off the website all you can download it the newversion and I can no longer find my download disk. ANything I can do to prevent loss of my sound card? or a way to download an older version of iTunes?
Thanks too all who can suggest something.

Try holding down the Shift key in Windows when launching iTunes 7. In the resulting dialogue you will get the option to create a new library or navigate to an existing one. The default location for your iTunes library is in C:\Documents and Settings\Username\My Documents\My Music\iTunes\ (or C:\Username\Music\iTunes\ in Vista). Look in there and see if you have more than one library file (they have the extension .itl) If you have more than one try opening them in turn, you may find your original library is still intact: How to open an alternate iTunes Library file
you could also have a look at this troubleshooting page, it may be of some help: No content shows up in iTunes after updating

  • How to maintain transition effects and sound when transferring PPT to Keynote ?

When transferring Powerpoint presentations created on my windows 7 laptop to Keynote to display on my I Pad retina, I lose all transition and sound effects. Is there a solution to this ?

In the Document tab of the Inspector, select "Self-Playing" under Presentation and enter '0' (zero) for the delay times.
Now when you export to QuickTime, you will have another option in the drop-down: "Fixed Timing." (this will represent the timings you have set within the presentation. Ignore the 1-second timings, they appear to have no bearing on the finished export.)
    Check "Include Slideshow Soundtrack."
From the Formats drop-down, go to "Custom..." and select "Mix Audio" from the Audio drop-down.
("Copy Audio" will give you a separate QT movie containing only the soundtrack.)
    Save to wherever.

  • Does iTunes convert your music when transfering to iPod?

If I have a .wav, .aac, or .mp3, does iTunes convert them to one unified format and bitrate when it get's transfered to the iPod or do the files basically stay as they were?

No they don't get converted. Whatever the files/bitrates are that are imported into into iTunes are the same as get transferred to the iPod.

  • Sound from video shuts down when I exit iPod application on my iPhone

    I have 1Gen iPhone with 2.2.1 firmware (5H11).
I have certain video files (primarily, videocasts not from iTunes and video interviews) which I only listen (not view) when I am commuting, exercising in the gym, running etc.
Every time I turn the screen off or exit iPod application on my iPhone - the video shuts down. That ***** because sometimes I need to reply to SMS, check the calendar, etc.
I looked through the settings - there is no way to solve this problem. Are there any alternative ways? Extracting the audio from video files is a solution, but I don't want to waste time on this.

yes, when you lock the iPhone, the video playback stops. the only real solution you have is to extract the audio. depending on the length of the file, this can take between 30 seconds to a couple of minutes. even extracting the audio from full length movies only took about 10 minutes, so it is not a highly interactive process. google 'audio extraction' and depending on your computer, you will probably find some free programs that will do it.

  • ITunes converts video, drops sound.

Everytime I spend 4+ hours converting a 20 minute video, iTunes cuts out the sound on the video.
Anyone know how to fix this problem?

Quicktime or Quicktime Pro (which iTunes uses) don't convert "muxed" ( muxed means multiplexed where the audio and video are stored on the same track) video files properly. It only plays the video and not the audio.
See:iPod plays video but not audio.
You need a 3rd party converter to convert the file with both audio and video.
See this for help: Guide to converting video for iPod (Mac/Windows).

  • Is there a new way to download videos on Safari when using Lion?

Since I upgraded to Lion 10.7.3, the method I was using to download videos, from YouTube and other internet sites, no longer works.  This method (with Snow Leopard) involved going to the Window menu, clicking on Activity, and finding the video file in a list, and double clicking it.  Usually the video would still be downloading and would be a certain number of MB in a long list of files of various KB sizes.
Now, there is no downloadable file listed (in Activity) for the video I'm watching.  Is there a way to download the video without purchasing additional software?

If this can "help" you I remember that also in previous versions of OSX sometimes Activity Monitor did not show certain particular videos: I think it depends by the way the video is set on the web page (something too technical for me)
Anyway the best solution for downloading videos from the web will always be Firefox + the extension "DownLoadThemAll". Unfortunately there is nothing like it for Safari.
I have also tryed different Apps & Tricks for downloading easily videos from Youtube but the "Dream team" Firefox+DownLoadThemAll is always the best!
Maybe there is something similar with Greasekit but actually the "Activity" method works fine for me.

  • Does AAC Encoder apply when importing or when transfering to iPod?

I have iTunes set to import using AAC Encoder. CD songs in the iTunes libary on my PC are m4a fles, while downloaded mp3 files remain as mp3 files.
Are the mp3 songs converted to AAC when transferred onto my iPod? Or does the AAC Encoder only apply when importing into the libary on my PC, in which case why do mp3 files stay as mp3 files?
Reason for asking is concern that converting from mp3 to AAC reduces sound quality.
    iPod   Other OS   60GB Video

    Graham,
The import setting you select in your iTunes Preferences applies specifically to songs you add directly from a CD.
It does not affect songs that are added to your library that are already mp3's (or any other format for that matter).
    Have a look at: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301509
When you synch the files to your iPod they will remain whatever they are in iTunes - nothing changes in the transfer.
iTunes can convert files (see http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93123 if you're interested in details on that) but you are right, there is a loss of audio fidelity.

  • Downloaded videos won't upload to my iPod

I downloaded Scrubs Seasons 5 and 6, and at first they were all shown on my ipod, but as time went on, the individual shows wouldn't appear on my ipod, only on my computer. How can I get all the shows on my ipod?

First thing you can try is simply right clicking the tracks and picking the "Convert Selection for iPod" choice which might be enough.
However if you find that it goes on the iPod but then has no audio...
QuickTime expects video files with separate video and audio tracks, but many MPEG formats used a muxed (multiplexed) single track that contains both. Therefore, when you convert videos in iTunes to iPod format they only show the video and no sound since iTunes (really QuickTime) is not looking for the audio track within the video track and it gets lost.
iPod plays video but not audio of some exported files
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302588
One way to work around this is to use MPEG Streamclip to convert the files to fix this issue...
    http://www.squared5.com/
but there are other applications besides MPEG Streamclip you can try as well.
