ITunes downloaded videos have choppy playback

I've noticed over the last few days that any music videos I've bought off the iTunes store have had terrible playback. The audio is fine, but the video lags and goes all fuzzy after about thirty seconds. The same thing happens on my Apple TV and iPad, but I've yet to check my iPhone. The lagging and distortion happens in the exact same place in the video each time I play it. Does anyone know the reason for this?

Hi, I don't know the reason why this is happening but I have the same issue with music videos. I conducted an experiment on another machine and after doing a fresh install and fresh download from the itunes store the experimental computer played the music videos without any issues so I know it is a setting on my Mac. I will let you know if I find a solution.

I just switched from FCP 7 to CS5.5 including a new computer which I perceive is optimized for CS 5.5. In playback my audio is choppy and dropping out some of the time, then if I stop and start the payback it will be fine, or sometimes there is no audio. doesn't seem to be any consistencey in what will happen the next time I start playback. On the timeline is a 1080i ProRes file I finished in FCP 7, then imported the video & audio file to Premier to make a couple of last minute changes. Program is 50 minutes long. I have the sequence setup as Kona 1080i compressed. I imagine I have missed something very basic here, but don't have a clue what it could be. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

I don't really think it's applicable in this particular situation. I have just switched to PP for FCP-7. All my FCP 7 shows are mastered in ProRes and this last one of course was too and it's the one I had to make a small change in. I didn't see anything in the post you referred me to that suggests that PP cannot/will not play back proRes material.
At the moment I'm screening DVCPROHD 1080i material and I'm having the same problem with choppy playback/freezes and lost audio in the viewer. I saw a post that came from Walter Biscardi for audio setup and followed that, which did seem to help a little, but the problem still exists. This is what i did...
Audio...set preferences in Premier to "built in output" and also set audio mapping to same, set audio hardware to "built in output" with caches at 1024
set computer preferences audio output to Kona card...
So I think this is some sort of setup that I have missed since I get identical problem with ProRes and DVCPROHD. Any other sugestions will be most appreciated. I'll give AJA a call tomorrow if I can't find a fix on the forum.

ITunes Downloading Video Podcasts - Hangs a few minutes on save

I have iTunes 8 (but this has been going on in older versions)
On a Win XP Pro laptop with 2GB Ram, and a 10mb Internet connection.
When I download new podcasts, the video podcasts download OK, but when each one completes the download and I assume is saving it to iTunes, the iTunes program seems to Hang. I can't do anything in iTunes, the little spinning whell stops, and I have to just sit there for 30 seconds to a min. until it frees up and starts downloading the next podcast. It happens on every video podcast, but not on the audio ones. Anything I can do to fix that? It's anoying.

Seem to be having a similar issue. Has started just recently so something must have changed although I'm not sure what. Maybe a Windows update has broken something?
Download any content from the store, it'll appers in the download folder but is never renamed or transfered into the correct sub folder.

Disabled Anti-Virus / Firewall to no effect. Don't think there has been any other system changes that would affet this aside from windows updates.
Windows 7 64bit SP1 running the same 10.2.2.12 build of iTunes.

After downloading iTunes all media players have choppy playback

I got a new computer and my CD and DVD playback was great until I downloaded iTunes. Now all my CDs and DVDs play back choppy/stuttering/etc. on any media players that came with my computer and iTunes. I know it is a software issue, but I don't know much else.
Can anyone help me please??

Just an off the cuff suggestion: Have you run your Windows updater since you got your computer? Do you have all the most recent available drivers for your computer's components? You should be able to check your computer mfg's website to verify this.

Very slow downloads,videos slow & Choppy playing

In the last few days when I try to watch/download ANY Videos it takes a long time. The videos load slowly,start to play,then load some more, start to play and on and on. Very choppy, stop and go.
The video has to constantly stop playing,download some more,then play a few seconds and then download some more,play a few seconds,etc.,etc.!
Have noticed downloads of other kinds also seem to be taking longer. However, no problem going to websites.
Please help and advise. I also upgraded to Mozilla 5.0 from 3.6 but no change or improvement!

I'm not getting errors, but I am getting unacceptable download times that have worsened since January 2011. I tend to think that Apple's content servers for iTunes are overwhelmed, but there is no excuse for having to wait an hour for a movie rental on my AppleTV, or 45 minutes for a music download to my Mac. It's just not acceptable; these files are not particularly large, and my cable connection is otherwise fast.
As for the hopes of improved download times once the farm goes live, I wouldn't count on it: any increase we (as end users) may experience will evaporate as the number of new users exponentially increases. Then it's back to dialup-like download times.
Steve-o needs to get his act together and get the situation corrected.

Downloaded Video stutters on playback

I recently downloaded a video from the iTunes store. ("Lazy Sunday" from SNL--it's crazy delicious!) When played back the first few times, it played just fine.
Since then, on it and all other videos, the sound "stutters" or echos violently. You can recognize the sound but it is distorted by dropouts and echoes--it actually sounds like the soundtrack is being played twice, one version just slightly behind the other.
This is true on all videos, and as I said, it used to work just fine. I downloaded and re-installed iTunes. Any other ideas?

I have this same problem after playing some 3d games. The video in QT (or any other player, really) will play oddly, the sound will stutter, etc. Rebooting makes it go away. I think it's some kind of video driver weirdness that I have been unable to figure out.
What's odd is it only happens occassionally, not every time I play a 3d game.

ITunes downloaded video...no sound when transferred to iPod

I posted this question a while back and a "b noir" took me through putting the sample video on my iPod (it wouldn't play audio either) and upgrading the software on my iPod. Neither of these things did anything to remedy the situation. The video I downloaded from iTunes plays in iTunes, QuickTime, Windows Media Center, etc... with full audio but not on my iPod.
If anyone has any other suggestions, I would appreciate hearing from you.

Appreciate the response...our situations are slightly different. I assumed from the thread that you were dealing with video that had to be converted. I am dealing with video purchased straight from iTunes and shouldn't need anything but uploading to the iPod.
My iPod plays the video from start to finish flawlessly yet silently. b stopped short of having me restore the iPod opting instead to have me upgrade the software (which didn't solve the issue).
I didn't know if b had any other ideas short of restoring the unit. It's been several days since I heard anything that is the reason for the new thread.

Itunes downloaded videos

I have the latest itunes and have downloaded Quicktime separately. I have windows xp home addition, yet when I try to play downloaded music videos in itunes on my computer the sound sticks like a record stuck in the same groove yet the picture works. The whole screen then locks and I can only get out of itunes by delete alt control and then end task. Any ideas anyone please?? It used to work fine. It is only since I downloaded the last 2 itunes updates. Is there a compatibility problem? The videos work fine on the ipod vido player!!

i have three movies two fame 2009 moives and a twilight movie plus an app (tap sharks) in my downloads but each of those have ALREADY downloaded into my itunes but every time i input my apple id and my password it all four come back to download again. i've deleted them out of dowloads time after time but they keep coming back. what can i do to remove for good and not have to constatly delete over and over?

Itunes downloaded video frozen

watched a tv episode till half way through and it has frozen. Tried rewinding, turning off and on again etc etc, nothing seems to work, plays fine until 23 mins then freezes. Anyone else had this happen and any quick fixes out there?

Itunes download speeds

We recently switched from using the mobile phone network (dongle) for our internet to satellite internet with a wireless router. Everything else has gotten faster except itunes and apple downloads which have become impossible. A song takes over an hour and software updates take days. Does anyone have any thoughts on why this would be and a solution? Our itunes library is on an external drive and all the software was up to date until we changed internet service.

I have 20mb/sec download service, and can download from 'anywhere' at that speed, except iTunes. iTunes runs about 1mb/sec. Are the iTunes servers that slow?

I need help deleting videos, tv shows, and movies downloaded from itunes. I have followed the instructions to delete from the macbook, I selected the videos I wanted to delete and right clicked to delete. Nothing happens. When I double click on the video it still starts playing. I also followed the instructions to delete the videos from the iphone by swiping from left to right with nothing happening. I opened the videos on the ipad and there is no edit selection like in the instructions on the support page. Can you please tell me how to permanently remove this content so it doesn't try to copy from each device when I want to back up the Iphone and Ipad to my macbook. Thank you.
