ITunes downloads SLOW

Rebooted, reinstalled iTunes, etc.  iTunes downloads are excruciatingly slow. Been downloading iPad IOS5 for hours now, still shows 8 hours remaining ~ for just 716MB download.  I have 20Mbit cable modem, everything else is flying fast download wise.  Just did a speed test and ran @ 17.93Mbp
Anybody else having issues?
Thanks

I'm going to post this in several threads.  I hate doing that so I apologize but I hope more people can see this as it very well may be the issue for many.
Six months ago I had a very similar issue to the one I just started having in the past couple days.  My speed tests were great and I have a 10Mbit DSL connection.  Downloads from what appeared to be anywhere were great except from Apple. Apple said there was no problem.  My ISP said there was no problem.  I was very persistant with my ISP though and after a month of my ISP insisting there wasn't a problem or that the problem was me or Apple, they finally found a problem on what they called their DS3 going back to the Main Switch on my Line Group.
So back to the past couple of days.  Same problem.  Today I contacted the person I was in talking with six months ago at my ISP to see if it's on their end.  They just got back to me that it was indeed their DS3 again.  My download speed from Apple is back to normal.  Very odd that I was only seeing an issue with Apple's servers though.

  • ITunes Download SLOW!

My iTunes has the slowest downloads, I'm on a T1 line and movies still take longer to download than they do to watch???

I am also having the same problem. All downloads from itunes (either rentals to stream on Appletv 2 or downloads made to the computer) are incredibly slow.
I have been having this problem for about 2 weeks

  • ITunes downloads SLOW. It is not my PC or my connection.

iTunes is extremely slow. It connects to the store extremely slow and it downloads extremely slow. Right now, I'm downloading an album and it's taking over 15 minutes to download each 2.5MB file.
I'm not connected through a router, and the only firewall I use is Windows firewall, which is configured for iTunes. I haven't changed a thing for a long time, and iTunes used to work perfectly and very fast. The problem seemed to start when I downloaded iTunes 7. Every song or movie I download crawls, and connecting to the store is slow.
With this new version of iTunes, there is a diagnostic tool. Here is a snipped of info from it:
    Windows Firewall is on.
iTunes is enabled in Windows Firewall.
Connection attempt to Apple web site was unsuccessful.
    The network connection timed out.
Connection attempt to iTunes Store was successful.
Secure connection attempt to iTunes Store was successful.
For some reason, the network connection times out to the Apple web site.
All of the lights are green with the diagnostic tool as well.
Any ideas? I'm so ****** right now. I bought an expensive iPod and now iTunes decides it doesn't want to work correctly anymore!

OK here is the deal. I am having the problem too and so is everyone else using this same ISP. I talked to a tech from my service provider and he is having the same problem. He actually called and spoke to an apple technician, after he had ran a visual trace route and identified the problem coming from an APPLE owned router, and he gave the router number to the APPLE tech. The APPLE tech actually acknowledged the problem and said that apple is working to fix the issue as they are getting the same problem from other routers as well. So the breakdown is like this, IF you are getting routed through one of those problem routers then you will have the problem. Some ISPs from different areas go differnet routes and thus have no problem. Its not your ISPs fault it is the fault of APPLE. They are supposedly getting ready to do an upgrade on a bunch of their router, this from the APPLE tech. The biggest thing is, WHY IS IT TAKING SO LONG! My belief is that even though it affects a very large group, it does not affect the majority and hence APPLE has not put a priority on it. Just a guess but probably the best guess. My suggestion, keep hounding your APPLE techs and don't let them tell you it's not them but your computer or connection or ISP. GOOD LUCK!!!

  • Apple iTunes download slow

I have 2 Apple tv boxes each connected to separate tv's by a hdmi cable , the boxes are connected to the computer by wifi , the computer is connected to a Time Machine which is then connected to a modem. Box #1 is upstairs and is about 14 feet away from the computer and has quick download speeds ( I can watch a movie within minutes).  Box #2 is downstairs and is almost underneath the computer ( by about 5ft) , the download speed for this box is very slow ( about 22 hours on average) , it does show a very good signal strength. Is there any reason why this is happening

What you describe is a network issue.  Troubleshoot the network.

  • ITunes downloads fast on old Mac mini but slow on brand new Macbook Pro on the same WiFi network?

    Hi all,
I have an old Mac mini that's from around 2008 and runs on Snow Leopard. I also have a brand new Macbook Pro with retina display that's running Mountain Lion. Both running iTunes 10.6.3.
I never noticed anything wrong with my MBP's connection speed until last night when I downloaded a free TV episode from iTunes. The download speed varied between 20KB/s and 40KB/s and it took me 7 to 8 hours to download a single episode. I checked my internet connection but there was nothing wrong with it, SpeedTest.net told me I had a download speed of 94MB/s and upload speed of 80MB/s, it was only iTunes that was unbearably slow.
Today I was browsing iTunes again and was planning to buy some movies, but again it took forever for the trailers to download. So I fired up my Mac mini just to see if it would be just as slow. Turned out my Mac mini could download the same trailers from iTunes at a much higher speed than my MBP (around 3MB/s on the ones I tested).
So what gives? They are on the same Wifi network provided by an Airport Extreme, and although my iPhone and iPad are also connected to it, no one else is doing any heavy duty downloading.
    Thanks in advance!

It's possible the DNS setting your ISP is using are interfering. Although your PC works OK Macs can be sensitive to DNS settings. Here is a MacWorld DNS Troubleshooting article that explains the issue and below is how to fix it.
    1. System preferences
    2. Network
    3. Click Advanced
    4. Click DNS tab
    5. Click + sign
    6. Add 208.67.222.222
    7. Click + sign
    8. Add 208.67.220.220
    9. Click OK.
    10. Exit System Preferences
    11. Try out your MBP and report what happened.

  • Why is the itunes download so slow

why is the itunes download so slow - I am trying to download itunes update to recognize my new ipod touch 5th generation and my pc will not even show it in itunes, in trying to download the update the speeds are so slow that it is estimating download time in days.  I have stopped and started the apple in services, but it is still unrecognized.

you know very well it has nothing to do with itunes or the modem/router.  apple servers are very very slow and its an absolute disgrace.
you can download from third party servers at twice the speeds (at your own risk)
Apple is the second largest company in the world and they treat customners in this way

I do not have a solution, just the same complaint.  ***!  !    I just used the iTunes store 2 weeks ago and now, after reviewing everything they asked for including ID/Pass/ Account Info etc.  I can't even get into the store.  I have tried asking at the Mac store and it has all been to no avail.  I was perfectly happy with iTunes before all of this ********... seriously what is the issue with iTunes?  They ask me to upload a new version (with no system specs anywhere that I can find on the page)  and then say it can't utilized because of system inadequacy.  It is exceedingly frustrating.

  • Why is itunes download so slow on apple tv (3 days now) but I can download same movie to computer instantly? What has changed?

I rented a movie via itunes on my apple tv 3 days ago. I still cannot view it on my television. I have checked all internet connections, routers, speedtests..etc and have come to the conclusion that it is simply the itunes download on apple tv. I can view netflix no problem on the same apple box.
I now have downloaded the same movie to my computer and am watching almost instantly. What is happening here? I used to rent movies on itunes via apple tv and get almost instant streaming now it's incredibly slow!

It doubful thats its your PC per se, alot of people are reporting the store being alittle on the slow side.
It won't last long, its just apple make all these changes 3-4 days ago, a week or 2 they will have it all str8.
You can overlook your network setup tho, make sure the connection isn't looping around thru ports on the router and slowing you down. I doubt thats it tho, iTUnes increased the resolution of there video, so in turn the files are bigger. This is why iTUnes now has a download manager in it so you can pause things when needed

  • Apple TV iTunes super slow downloads

I've had my Apple TV for a couple years.  Never had a single problem.  I use it to stream movies & video from the iTunes store, Netflix, Hulu, Vimeo, etc.  I have a fast broadband connection and view everything in 720p HD.  It's always worked fine.  Instant rentals have been just that... instant.
Just this week, downloads from the iTunes store slowed to a crawl, as if I had gone back to a dial up connection.  3 1/2 hrs. to download a 40 min. show.
I restarted ATV several times.  Nothing.  I restarted my DSL modem and Airport Extreme.  I checked for firmware updates for the AE.  All up to date.  All in good working order.  No network speed problems on any of our Macs or devices in the house.  I downloaded content from Netflix, Hulu, etc. via ATV to check if it was a network problem.  Netflix and Hulu stream fine on the ATV, just as they have in the past.  Only iTunes content is giving me this problem.
Anyone else have this problem?  Anyone have a solution?

Netflix adapts to the connection so that wouldn't be a good way to judge.
If you haven't, check your actual speed (www.speedtest.net)
Try to rule out interference, if on wifi, by using istumbler.net
Ensure you are using your ISPs DNS

  • Does anyone experiencing slow iTunes download?

I experience slow iTunes download in last 24 hours, keep getting connection timeout error. I wonder if it is just me or the iTunes server is facing issue? Can anyone give me some clue? Thanks

Yes! Still experiencing that error right at the end of the download. Has been happening for a few days. Have tried connecting to a different internet service provider and still have the same problem. Telstra sayits not them, iTunes helpdesk says its not them. Just have to keep on trying for now.

  • Extremely Slow iTunes Downloads

I'm trying to rent a movie from iTunes and the download speed is obviously not 8ookb/s (my cap.) It is more like 10kb/s, or something ridiculously slow. I opened my firewall and it looks like iTunes is "scanning" my ports...I know it's supposed to use 3689 or something.
Every second iTunes opens up the next port and uses it for something.
Any ideas?!?! I don't want to wait 2235982735 hours to download this movie.
I've tried disabling my firewall and everything in my router looks fine...
Edit: I'm using windows xp, that 7 look is just a theme.

For the last 48 hours, on my iphone 3GS, it takes 100 times longer than before to download an app, or an iTunes song, both from WiFi as well as from 3G. Even downloading a preview of a song takes 2 minutes before the preview starts. This behavior started on 2/3. I even noticed that downloading apps from my Mac takes an inordinate amount of time and I have a DOCSIS 3 (100MB/sec) connection. iTunes is the only problem. I have no problem downloading from other Apple sites (e.g. trailers)so the problem is either in the iTunes download service or with their connectivity to my ISP (Cablevision). Pls help

  • ITunes downloads are painfully slow, and using the wrong servers

For the past few months, iTunes downloads (from a PC) have been unbearably slow, with single 60-minute TV shows taking 3-6 hours to download.  Worse, Apple has decided that I live in the middle east, rather than Vermont.  According to Task Manager, itunes is connecting to 204.2.196.136 to download files, and that server is located in Iran.
Before anyone asks, I am using my ISP's DNS provider, located in Vermont.  So this has nothing to do with that useless Google DNS service.  How do I forge iTunes to use the right providers in the United States?
For what it's worth, no other programs have this problem. Speedtest reports a healthy 10-12 Mb/s, Steam downloads huge files quickly, and Apple TV streaming is fine.  As far as I can tell, only iTunes store downloads are affected (from any source, including my iPad 2.)

In my case, I think it's a combination of my isp being incredibly slow (Optus in Melbourne) and iTunes apparently throttling the download speed.  A couple of days ago, my download speed measured on speedtest.net was 0.2 Mbps!!  After phoning Optus to complain, they reset the line and the speed bounced up to about 6 Mbps.  So in that case it was definitely my isp.  But now, even with the approx 6 Mbps download speed, my iTunes downloads are taking about 3 hours just to download one 40-something minute episode.  When I do a traceroute (start, cmd, tracert itunes.apple.com, enter) the iTunes server is located in Boston, US and I'm in Ballarat, Victoria, Oz.

  • ITunes download extremely slow on a 300Mbps uVerse connection

Gigapower installed yesterday (W00t!!!) ... everything is flying except ... iTunes downloads
I've tried the following with no improvement
Different DNS servers from the local machine (4.4.4.4, 8.8.8.8, OpenDNS, att standard DNS)
    Turning off the firewall
Opening itunes port in gaming for the machine
Sacrificing a pure white goat inside a pentagram while wearing a black turtleneck
    Resetting network adapter
    Trying from multiple hardwired locations
Speedtest has me at 320Mbps and everything else is flying except streaming any connection to the iTunes store (from Mac, PC, and Apple TVs both wired and wireless).

Having the same problem tonight, trying to download Mary Poppins for my girls and I may as well have dial up...  Speedtest has me at 85 Mbps even while the DL is occurring so has me pondering where the hold up is.
