ITunes downloads taking far too long

Hi. When trying to download my purchases from iTunes my PC says it is working at 100% and has taken over an hour to dowload about 25 audio tracks. I have tried the usual stuff but when I pause the downloads my PC goes back to working at about 20% or so. This seems to have become an issue since downloading the latest version of iTunes. Incidentally, apart from the internet connection, there is nothing else running on my PC. Any ideas as I can't do anything else on my PC like this as it is running at 100% and taking forever to do anything!
Thanks.

Thanks, Jason.
UPDATE:
Blue screen of death persists, unable to proceed until STOP error problem is fixed.
It appears that the previous problem with the long "processing file" time may have been caused by corrupt downloads resulting from the blue screen error mentioned in my previous post. However, I am unable to confirm this until I solve the problem with the continually-generated STOP errors.
I have just finished following all of the steps outlined in the link provided above by Jason L. I have completely uninstalled and removed all traces of iTunes and Quicktime from my computer, including all installation files. Then I went into MSCONFIG and changed the Services and Startup items so that nothing would start except for the required Microsoft processes, including disabling all anti-virus and firewall software. After this, I restarted my computer.
After the restart, I double-checked the processes in Task Manager to make sure there were no unnecessary processes running. There were no unrequired processes, and the applications tab was empty. I then installed Quicktime standalone and restarted. I repeated the above checks and (leaving the quicktime process running) downloaded iTunes, running the installation file after saving it to the desktop. I then restarted the computer again.
After doing all of the above, I started iTunes. It processed a few files and then sat there, ready to go. I clicked on the option to check for purchases. The 3 remaining downloads showed up and began downloading anew.
Less than 3 minutes into the download process, the blue screen of death appeared again. The technical information in this error reads as follows:
* STOP: 0x0000008E (0xC0000005, 0x0000006A, 0xEF2E6C40, 0x00000000)
I am unable to proceed further in attempting to solve this problem, as I have no unnecessary processes running and have run out of ideas. Any help is appreciated.

  • Compressor 3 taking far too long to compress H.264

    Origianally posted this here:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=7328851&#7328851
    But thought I would start a new topic.
    Something is very wrong. I sent a 9 minute MPEG-2 file to Compressor to have compressed to H.264. (H.264 compression is what I would gather many of us are using Comp for in the first place).
    I know Compressor can do H.264 comp at about 1.43:1 from tests. So a 9 minute clip should take, 6 minutes or so, and with Q Master it should be even faster. Well, Comp reports 8-9 hours. What the heck is going on.
    I have taken MPEG Stream Clip and done the same H.264 output and it takes about 6-7 minutes. Something is up with Comp 3.
    Now I have turned off Q Master, Reset the Comp 3 BG Processing, Quit Comp and relaunch, maybe reboot, possibly trash all prefs related to Comp.
    And still 8-9 hours?
    A 9 minute clip should take 6 minutes and as I say, with Q Master, even faster, that is the point of Q Q Master services

    Took me awhile to get Compressor going reliably but now it has been pretty solid.
    I am not sure what settings you are using to encode (for instance Frame Controls can add alot of time), but 8-9 hours for 9 Minutes seems rather extreme. Note though that you are using an MPEG-2 (m2v?) file. You may be better off converting to another Codec or better yet go to the source material you are double encoding.
    I just set up a Compressor setting on an Octo 2.8 with everything pushed to the Max on Frame Controls and set to resize a 6 Minute HD AIC stream down to H.264 @25% of the size of the original and sent out to "This Computer" and not the Cluster and it took 17 minutes or so. Even with converting from m2v it does seem like it is taking way too long on the machine for you.
    I saw you had done some troubleshooting, but do you have any other details? Was his a clean install of the OS and Studio, or were there upgrades along the way? That caused some issues in the past - meaning between upgrades to Leopard and/or installing Studio 2 over Studio 1.

  • "Processing File" taking far too long!!

    I have a subscription to a TV program that I've been using for a bit more than a month. It's always worked beautifully.
    Then I had to upgrade iTunes to the newest version.
    Now the downloads are taking about the same amount of time, but there's this "Processing File" thing at the end that's adding sometimes more than 30 minutes to the time it takes me to start viewing each file.
    What is the problem here? Is there any way to speed up or skip this process? Is this now "normal"?
    If anyone can help solve this problem, it would be greatly appreciated. As it is, this *****! If this continues, I'll have to let my subscription expire and just do something else instead, because the wait time isn't worth it to me. (That and this new version frequently crashes for me during the "processing file" process.)
    Thanks for any help you can give!

  • Apple tv download takes far too long

    How long should it take to download a movie using itunes and apple TV?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
    The first thing to check would be your internet download speed, you can do this at www.speedtest.net.
    1080p HD movies require a recommended speed of 8 Mbps, 720p HD movies require a recommended speed of 6 Mbps, while SD movies require a recommended speed of 2.5 Mbps.

  • BPC taking far too long to install on 2 of 3 identical servers

    Hi all
    Has anyone ever found a situation where any of your servers take much longer to install BPC than one or more of your others?
    I have 3 identical servers:
    Hardware:  HP ProLiant DL360-G5
    CPU:                2 x Quad-core 2.33GHz Intel Xeon
    RAM:          3.25GB
    O/S:           Windows Server 2003 R2 Standard x86 SP2
    One of them installs BPC in around 8 minutes, but the other 2 each take around 1.5 hours.
    The main verification is in the folder C:\BPC\Websrvr\BIN
    The timestamps on the files on the fast server are all within 3 minutes (134 files, from 14:17 to 14:20 on the date of installation)
    On the slower ones, the timestamps are 15:24 to 16:24 for the same files (it took about 1hr 5 minutes to install this last time)
    As soon as the "Copying files" section was done, the rest just stormed through to the end of installation.
    It seems really odd that 2/3 would have this problem.  If it was just 1 then I would assume that there is an issue with the hardware, but for 2 to have the same issue ???
    Finally, we run McAfee on these servers.
    I disabled it completely on the slow ones, and even left it switched on on the fast one, to see if I could slow it down, but nothing.
    Everything went through in exactly the same way.
    Can anyone offer any help, as we are wondering if this could be indicative of performance issues to come as we load these servers up with users at some future point.
    Thanks
    Craig

    Thanks Akim.
    I copied a 13GB file and found one server completing in 9.5 minutes and the other 2 taking 15 minutes
    I found that the Array Read/Write caching on the servers was different.
    On the fast one, it was set to 50/50 Read/Write
    On the slow one, it was set to 25/75 Read/Write
    Once I changed the setting, there was still a bit of a diffrerence (which I'll continue looking for), but the slow servers are now transferring the file in under 11 minutes, so a big percentage difference there.
    Thanks again for the pointers

  • Select/Update taking far too long to run, how can I get it to go faster?

    Hello all,
    I am trying to do an update/select on a table that returns 16 million records. So far most of the time it takes forever to complete or never finishes. Initially I was trying to do it as one big select, but when that didnt work, i broke it down to creating a table with the "base" 16 million records, and am trying to fetch additional values for each of those records from the table i grabbed those records from. Doing a select got me no where, so I am trying to do an update of the tables with the values i find using a cursor. Even this does not seem to be working. Is there a way to do it with a batch/bulk update that would be faster? The code is as follows: (oracle 10g):
    DECLARE
       CURSOR wr63993_cur IS
          SELECT   provider_id,
                   din_gp_pin,
                   orig_prescription_nbr,
                   adjudication_date
            FROM   WR63993_BASE
           WHERE   adjudication_date BETWEEN to_date('2009/07/01', 'yyyy/mm/dd') AND to_date('2009/07/31', 'yyyy/mm/dd');
       CURSOR date_cur (v_provider_id WR63993_BASE.provider_id%TYPE,
                        v_din_gp_pin WR63993_BASE.din_gp_pin%TYPE,
                        v_orig_prescription_nbr WR63993_BASE.orig_prescription_nbr%TYPE,
                        v_adjudication_date WR63993_BASE.adjudication_date%TYPE)
          IS
          SELECT   MIN(adjudication_date) min_date
            FROM   claim_history@posi
           WHERE   provider_id = v_provider_id
             AND   din_gp_pin = v_din_gp_pin
             AND   orig_prescription_nbr = v_orig_prescription_nbr
             AND   adjudication_date >= ADD_MONTHS(v_adjudication_date, - 24);
    BEGIN
       FOR wr63993_rec IN wr63993_cur LOOP
          FOR date_rec in date_cur(wr63993_rec.provider_id, wr63993_rec.din_gp_pin, wr63993_rec.orig_prescription_nbr, wr63993_rec.adjudication_date) LOOP
             UPDATE   WR63993_BASE
                SET   min_date = date_rec.min_date
              WHERE   provider_id = wr63993_rec.provider_id
                AND   din_gp_pin = wr63993_rec.din_gp_pin
                AND   orig_prescription_nbr = wr63993_rec.orig_prescription_nbr;
          END LOOP;
      END LOOP;
      COMMIT;
    END;

    The performance of these, as i'm sure you know, is tricky.
    Consider the following which could help you eliminate your cursors. Here, B.adjudication_date will be the same as "MIN(adjudication_date) min_date" from your query.
    I understand that this is typically outside of your control, but if it is at all possible, move all of the data to the same database so you don't need those distributed queries. Separate schemas is ok.
    Select
      stuff
    From Wr63993_Base A
    Inner Join Claim_History@Posi B On A.Provider_Id=B.Provider_Id And A.Din_Gp_Pin=B.Din_Gp_Pin And A.Orig_Nbr=B.Orig_Nbr
    --the next table will allow you to get *earlier* instances of the claim where the adjudication date was in past 24 months
    --we only want to see the row where there ARE NO EARLIER instances. So this LOJ will return null for that row.
    Left Outer Join Claim_History@Posi C On A.Provider_Id=C.Provider_Id And A.Din_Gp_Pin=C.Din_Gp_Pin And A.Orig_Nbr=C.Orig_Nbr
    and c.adjudication_date >= ADD_MONTHS(a.adjudication_date, - 24) and c.adjudication_date<b.adjudication_date
    Where
      A.Adjudication_Date Between To_Date('2009/07/01', 'yyyy/mm/dd')
      And To_Date('2009/07/31', 'yyyy/mm/dd')
      And B.Adjudication_Date >= Add_Months(A.Adjudication_Date, - 24)
      and c.adjudication_date is null --only get the row where B is the earliest qualifying adjudication date.

  • Godfather II downloading taking WAY too long!

    Is this normal for those who have downloaded it? I haven't gotten any error messages or anything like that. Its going .1 MB slowly. Please help!

    I was having this issue... last movie I bought was Hancock and the estimated download time was 4 hours... (it stayed at 4 hours for 40 minutes)
    So I called our phone company to verify I still had the highest speed available.
    They told me since we run off of one line for our DTV as well as internet... I had to unplug the DTV or shut it off and my download speed would get back to where it should be.
    I just watched the estimated time go from 4 hours to 30 minutes by doing this.
    So I can't watch TV if I am downloading a movie LOL

  • Installing OS X on a new hard drive taking way too long?

    I switched out my old 250 GB hard drive that shipped with my MacBook Pro for a new 640 GB WesternDigit drive. I'm trying to use a Mavericks installer USB to install on my newly formatted hard drive, but it's taking way too long - I mean, I left it going overnight (about 7.5 hours), and when I came down, it wasn't even half done. Is there anything I can do here? I'd like to use my laptop. Thank you very much for any suggestions.

    Do you have a internet connection? Even with a USB installer that if good and functioning properly you need an internet connection to Authenticate the install with your Apple ID.
    If your old drive is still functioning you can connect it to your Mac with a SATA to USB adapter and use the Recovery HD on that original drive to reinstall Mavericks on the new drive.
    If the drive is no longer functioning and you have no way of getting to the Apple internet download for Mavericks then you will need to start with an install of the original version of OS X that came on your Mac when new then update and or upgrade to Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and then use the Mac App Store to reinstall Mavericks. There is not other way to do this. So save yourself some time and trouble and start fresh.
    If your original drive is still functioning and it had Mavericks installed on it you can also CLONE that drive to the new one once you connect it to your mac with some type of SATA to USB adapter or enclosure.
    If the Mavericks USB installer you have was made from a Mac that came with Mavericks pre-installed on it that will not work on your Mac.

    sure, just install and activate.  one license entitles you to two concurrent activations.
    if you've already activated on two computers you will need to deactivate (help>deactivate) on, at least, one.

  • It's taking way too long for my messages to load.

    Starting on Tuesday this week (10/14) it is taking way too long for my messages to load from my Gmail account. Once the message finally shows up in the Inbox, it's taking up to 10-15 min for the message to load where I can actually view the message. I'm going to have to move to another email application if this can't be resolved which is very unfortunate as I've enjoyed using Thunderbird up until now.

    I guess I'm at least happy to know it's not just me. I've had to abandon Thunderbird for now. I guess I'll keep an eye out for future updates.

  • Consolidating Music Files into Itunes - File Name Invalid/Too Long!

    When trying to consolidate music files into my library, I get an error message stating "Failed, The file name was invalid or too long." ????
    I have tons of songs and don't know which file name is invalid or too long???

    hiya!
    hmmmm. we're looking for filenames here where the path and the filename has more than 256 characters in it. (at least i believe that's what the path-filename length limit is.)
    possibly the easiest way to check for that is to use a spreadsheet like excel.
    right-click your library in your itunes sourcelist, and select "export songlist ...". save it as a .txt file.
    open the .txt file with Excel (or whatever spreadsheet application you have on the PC). the column with the path-filename in it is the one to the extreme right (you can delete the other columns and resize them to make looking for things a bit easier).
    scroll through that looking for extremely long path-filenames.
    can you track down some that seem to be above the length limit?
    love, b
