Itunes drops out while playing via apple tv

playing music through iTunes and apple tv drops out when screen on computer shuts down

If your computer has gone to sleep then the connection will be lost and thus Apple TV will have nothing to access and cut out.

  • Locating rental movie on iTunes that dropped out while playing through AppleTV

We just rented a movie from iTunes to play through Apple TV. It dropped out after half an hour and now I can't find it anywhere to finish watching it. Have looked in iTunes library, nothing there. Very annoying - any ideas???

This is a frequently asked question, which sometimes has a solution and sometimes has no solution. See this long-running discussion on the topic:

  • Audio drop out while playing DVD

I import a quick time file from Final Cut Pro into DVD Studio Pro. I burn my DVD and it plays just fine in my MacPro. However, when I play it in my home DVD player (and other people's home DVD player), the audio drops real low when there are not two channels of audio playing.
For example . . . At the start of the piece when just music is playing, the audio levels are real low. But when the voice track comes in, all audio channels come up to their normal level.
I would love any assistance with this problem. Thanks!

I too have been experiencing this problem recently. It does sound like my hard drive is falling a sleep and then has to start up again every few minutes. I'm running the latest version of iTunes and have a 300GB internal hardrive in my G4 Tower running the latest 10.4 OS. I though it was an energy saver issue and turned off "put hard disk to sleep" as well as turned off the screen save and everything else. Not ideal but am in the process of testing it to see if it's related.
    Strange this would happen.

Are you downloading iTunes form an Apple website or somewhere else? If the answer is somewhere else, try downloading it from Apple. Click on iTunes in the black menu bar above and go from there.

  • Audio drops out while video continues to play just after making a cut!

I've been using Adobe Premiere Pro for a few months now and I use it to edit my YouTube gameplay videos. Here is everything I am doing in Adobe Pr:
    1. Create new project
    2. import my raw gameplay video (m2ts file)
    3. import my wave sound file (my commentary)
    4. Put them on the time line and play the video (it works then)
    5. make a cut somewhere and the GAMEPLAY audio drops out not the video or my commentary.
The same thing happens in Adobe Premiere Elements as well. Should I convert my m2ts files to MP4 or AVI or something??? Please help

Last week, this song played fine on the burned copy.
Is this problem now showing up in the iDVD preview mode? Or is it with subsequent burned DVD's?
Go back to your project in iDVD. Go to File>Save as disk image. This will create a file that can be viewed on your computer's DVD player. The disk image will show you how your project will appear when played on a standard DVD player. See if this problem is repeated. If everything is fine, go ahead and burn the DVD using Disk Utility.
    I hope this helps.

  • ITunes breaks Airplay extend desktop via Apple TV

Hi there, using my MPBr 15in with Yosemite installed and an Apple TV.
I have been watching photoshop tutorials in an iTunes playlist via extended desktop (Video played on extended desktop on TV, I'm following along with Photoshop on my mac).
I had put my mac on charge and did some things for a while, came back and went to continue my tutorials. But for some unknown reason when I select play in iTunes, instead of just playing on the extended desktop like it was earlier, iTunes quits the extended mode, 'sends' the video to the Apple TV which is a bit of a bumpier process then I'd like. Not to mention it needs to 'buffer' the video each time the next one is played. The worst issue is that the video is zoomed in too far, meaning I cannot see the photoshop tools or the menus along the top and no way to change it (it seems at least). I could forgo the Airplay streaming if it didn't have that issue.
No Apple account is signed in to the Apple TV.
I have tried changing a couple settings in Apple TV (including overscan settings on/off) to no avail. Also changed iTunes setting of Airplay that appears next to the volume slider. No matter what I try when I play the video, extended desktop mode turns off and iTunes streams just the video to Apple TV, also meaning I have to completely disconnect from Apple TV and reconnect again.
So my question is, how do I force iTunes to not use Airplay streaming when I have specifically configured the computer to extend the desktop? I want to extend the desktop!! Using the multiple desktop feature is useful!
Why does it assume I want to stream it independently rather than keep the second desktop?
Why has it done it now, instead of before? I never pressed anything that I know of. It just decided to do it.
If for whatever reason there is no way to turn this auto configuration off, how do I stream the video so it does not cut off the edges?
Thanks in advance. If I figure it out I'll be sure to post what I found here.

Troubleshoot the network, starting with power cycling the ATV and router.

  • Itunes dropping out

Can anyone help me with the below problem?
I have the most recent itunes installed on my MacBook. This is linked to my Onkyo ND S1 transport via USB, which is linked to my DAC via S/PDIF.
When playing music from my MacBook (through itunes) the sound drops out on a regular basis (about once on every song). I have looked at the settings on the Audio Midi Setup, but no luck!

    Leaf Roller,
I am not sure if your problem and mine are completely related, but what I did was delete the airport password for the system settings on the keychain access program. When I then restarted the airport software it asked me to update all of my keychain settings and the system is now working. The system passwords can be shown by clicking the "show keychains" tab on the keychain access software. You could also look at deleting the local airport password or the airtunes password and re-entering them.
Hopefully you can get it working and I want to let you know I am not a tech support guy by any means, but just a consumer who tinkers with stuff.

  • Audio drop outs and continuing problems- Apple Support informed again.

    Hi All,
Have had various audio problems with iMovie transfer to iDVD 6. iMovie had the problems initially but a weird trick seems to be helping me.
Copy a random new audio track into my film, paste it, then cut it out then empty trash..... all of a sudden my audio is clean again and perfectly in time with the video. I have informed the iMovies people in Ireland and they are at a loss to explain why this is now ok.
BACK to the plot and iDVD 6.
When I try to export this project from iMovie in iDVD 6 it either becomes an audio garbled nightmare or if I try and import into iDVD 6 I get audio that gradually becomes out of sync with the video visual. I know that this project was recorded in 16 bit audio so no joy there.
I've told Apple in Ireland that there are major audio issues with iDVD 6's audio set up + something they were apparently unaware of. I was assured that the tech dept's would investigate and solve. I am really surprised that they hadn't seen this problem in this forum!!
In the meantime any advice is very gratefully received. I'm on an Intel G5 Imac with 1.83ghz 1Gb sdram and 250 GB HD. So Software is currently limited!! I desperately need to get this project to DVD!!!!
    Many thanks,
    GUY

SAME EXACT THING HERE. This is what I posted in a diff thread:
    2013 iMac 1TB Flash Drive
    OS 10.8.5
Constant audio drop outs using Apogee Duet. I have to unplug and replug several times to get the system to recognize it. Sometimes when it is connected, Audio Prefs doesn't even recognize it and it shows up as "Unknown". When I click Audio Prefs before I get in, I get the spinning beachball and it takes a while for it to open. I have been in touch with Apogee but to no avail. It seems to work on my 2013 Macbook Pro, but I haven't tested extensively. It seems to get tripped up if I'm working in Ableton and get a Facetime call or if I try to use Youtube / Soundcloud. The system gets noticebly slower. When I switch back to Ableton, Duet is recognized (sometimes not recognized at all) but I cannot play anything inside the project window.
Not sure what to do at this point

  • ITunes Extras won't play on Apple TV 3

iTunes extras supposedly works with the Apple TV now:
    http://9to5mac.com/2014/07/10/apple-brings-itunes-extras-to-apple-tv-hd-extras-t o-macs-today-ios-8-in-fall/
But I cannot get it to work!
I have an Apple TV with software version 6.2 and iTunes 11.3.1 on my iMac. iTunes Extras work on the iMac but not on the Apple TV.
I have tried both playing from iTunes on the iMac and cloud playback on the Apple TV, but it always goes directly to the movie rather than the menu screen to allow selection of extras or movie playback.
I also have checked and the Apple TV has playback setting on 1080p.
What magic needs to be done to get iTunes extras to work?

    It all changed.
Extras were originally downloadable 'sidecar files' that AppleTV 1 and iTunes could play.
If you have the old Extras that downloaded to iTunes, and still play there, ATV2 and 3 won't do anything with them.
The new Extras will only play on AppleTV via your Movie Purchases/Purchased section via the Cloud (Movies icon not Computers), and require the internet - if your connection is slow they will buffer.  You cannot download 'new extras' to iTunes anymore, again they must play via the 'cloud'.
Also old films with 'Old Extras' don't necessarily have the 'new Extras' (yet), there have also been several glitches where people get the Extras from the Cloud but cannot work out how to play the Movie!

  • Phone drops out while i have full reception??

Ever since i bought my iPhone 3G i've had a problem with calls dropping out. Even when im in full range the calls sound like im going out of range. I always just assumed it was my friends reception even when they swore they had full range. I mean it can't be my phone can it? i mean i have the top of the range iPhone. But tonight i rang voicemail and had it on speakerphone (so i could see the screen) and i had full reception but my call started breaking up like i was going through a tunnel. I have tried a reset but still having the problem. It's not every call but it does happen often and it happens with and without headphones so its not a speaker issue. Could it be the phone? should i take it to apple to get them to look at it? any help would be great.
    Cheers

Yes it could be the phone.
If an iPhone reset, restoring your iPhone with iTunes from your iPhone's backup, restoring your iPhone with iTunes as a new iPhone or not from your iPhone's backup does not improve this, I would make an appointment at an Apple store if there is one nearby.

  • Remote speakers in iTunes drop out

I have Airport Express connected to my PC via a DLink wireless adapter. Whenever the computer (Windows XP) is on the connection is made and never drops out. However if the the PC is on for an extended time, and iTunes has been open with the remote speakers connected, the speakers will drop out and the speaker name is italisied.
The only way to correct this is to turn off the power to the Airport Express and turn it back on.
The network is WEP encrpyted and there are no problems what so ever when the speakers are connected. It has been suggested that if the PC goes to sleep this may be the cause. But if it does the connection is still there, just iTunes wont recognise it as being there.
Any suggestions as to how to fix this would be great.
    Thanks!

Did you ever fix this? I am having the same issue!

  • ITunes drops out when streaming to a stereo

recently - the last couple of months - when I have my iTunes streaming vie airport to my stereo, tracks drop out (go silent) for a second or two every 20 or so seconds. It makes no difference which track is playing. It is beyond frustrating.
I've installed all of the latest updates, I've tried quitting iTunes, rebooting etc, but to no avail. The thing is, it's not consistent - it doesn't happen every time - more like 50% of the time.
Any ideas? Is it likely to be interruptions in the wireless network? I live in a Manhattan apartment building. Could it be interruptions due to my mac processing other data?
    I'm at a loss & it's driving me mad

I was reading another thread and this worked perfectly for me. I kept trying to get this computer authorized and it would time out everytime. All I did was go up to the store menu, sign out, and sign back in. Nothing timed out, I was able authorize and I am back to listening to music again.

  • ITunes drops out like everyone else - Netgear WGT624

OK, I've read the posts and I can't get it straightened out. My wireless router is a Netgear wgt624 with WPA enabled. I'm streaming from my MacBook Pro to the AirPort Express. I've tried WEP and no security at all and it still drops out. I have the latest software for the APE. The MacBook Pro is 8' from the router and 9' from the APE.
I live in a condo and there are other networks around. Could that be a factor?
Would switching to a different router solve the problem?
    Thanks.

Hello grits4jim. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
Yes, it is very possible that you may have some form of Wi-Fi interference in the immediate area that is preventing you from getting a good clean signal.
I suggest you perform a simple site survey, using utilities like KisMAC, MacStumbler, iStumbler, or IPNetMonitorX to determine potential areas of interference...and then, try to either eliminate or significantly reduce them.
