ITunes "drops" recognition of iPod Touch in the middle of restore
Hi. I have been attempting to restore my iPod on my PC (Dell Inspiron 6000 running Windows XP). It had issues in the middle of an iOS software update and went into restore mode. I plug in my iPod and it displays the connect to iTunes screen. iTunes recognizes it as "iPod" and a message pops up that says I need to restore my iPod. I click "restore" and it says it is "Extracting Software". At some point in the middle of this step, iTunes stops recognizing my iPod. It contines with the "extracting software" step, but at the end of this step it gives me an error message saying "The iPod 'iPod' could not be restored. The device cannot be found". When I click "OK", it immediately recognizes my iPod again and goes back to the initial restore screen. I have followed all steps in support pages including updatinge iTunes to latest version, checking my usb cable, restarting the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver, updating the driver, uninstalling and reinstalling the driver and finally uninstalling iTunes and all its related components and reinstalling. I have also tried disconnecting and reconnecting the ipod during the "Extracting Software" step to see if iTunes will re-recognize it. Please let me know whether you have any insight into my issues. Did you also check your security software settings? iTunes has to be able to contact Apple during the process:

On my ipad 2 I can't "see" the hundreds of spoken audio tracks that are in my itunes and on my ipod touch. Is there something I didn't do during sync up? The tracks are from voice recordings that were downloaded from an extrernal drive and weren't necessarily tagged as spoken audio. Do I need to go back into itunes and relabel these tracks so they will show up on my ipad2?

I connected my ipod touch to the computer. When it brings up itunes and start to sync, it stalls at the last step (6). This keeps me from being able to add other songs from my library to my ipod. I'm very new at this and maybe just don't understand how it works.

I have an older iPod Touch, I bought a new one and the Itunes on my computer is too old to recognize my new iPod Touch and Itunes cannot be updated. Is there a creditable software program I can use to get all my old music from my old iPod Touch to the new one? I had the same problem with my iPad, i couldn't get the newer version of itunes because the computer was too old and my iPad couldnt sync with the old itunes. I got a PC from school a few months later so that solved the problem for me. Unfortunately i don't think there would be a program to put your music on your iPod, iTunes should be the only way to transfer files to Apple devices. What operating system are you running and what version of it is it?

The music sync is one way - computer to ipod. the only exception is ituens purchases.
You need to copy everything from your old computer, or your backup copy of your old computer, to your new one. -
Hi all, I've recently updated my ipod touch to the ios 6 and now i cant seem to use it with my itunes
whenever i connect my ipod to itunes, a notification saying that i need a newer version of itunes. However, when i check itunes for software updates, it seems i have the current version of itunes
I am at a lost of what to do as i can no longer sync my ipod touch with my itunes.

All it does is connect to the iTunes store if I'm near a WiFi connection. It appears to be useful only for impulse purchasing of media. So why is it not named "iTunes Store"? It appears to have no other function.
Also, to listen to my iTunes music on iPod Touch I have to click on the Music button...not the iTunes app. What logic is that?
Also, iTunes has synced a movie for me, but I have no clue how to view it on the iPod Touch. It doesn't appear in iTunes on the iPod Touch, and there is no "Movie" button anywhere. What am I missing? I can't find it anywhere.For purchasing music, downloading podcasts,etc.

all of my apps are in iTunes AND on my iPod Touch. in iTunes, under my iPod, the checkbox next to 'sync apps' (in the Apps page under my iPod) is Unchecked. if I check it, all my apps will be all over the place and I will waste hours trying to get it back to the way it was. I don't really have a reason to check the box but I don't know. should I check the box and have to reorganize all my apps or leave it "un-synced"?
by "un-synced" I mean how it is on my iPod and iTunes at the same time but its not synced

The iphone is designed to be synced to your computer regularly.

When I press the iTunes button on my ipod touch I get the message 'cannot connect to iTunes store' . My wifi is working fine, I can connect to safari & you tube, no parental setting in place, and time and date are correct. Can anyone help please? I have restored my ipod to factory settings and rest it.
I also tried moving the date forward by a year and then moving it back to normal and it still doesn't work. i can't find an automatic update of time zones on my itouch to turn this off.

I have some music content in my itunes library that I do not want to sync with my ipod touch. The content has previously been synced and I want to remove it without deleting it from my itunes library. Is this possible?
Hi Pez,
iTunes in the Cloud is not iCloud. Any songs that you have purchased but have not downloaded (or have deleted), go to iTunes in the cloud. The setting I mentioned will show all of your purchases in the various views in the Music app, whether they are on your device or not. If you turn that setting off, you will only see items that are actually on your device.
Glad to hear the second sync worked! But if they all start appearing again, make sure that setting is turned off

I updated to a newer version of iTunes and now my ipod touch does not show up as a device in iTunes. There is no 'Devices" category on the bar at the left

After updating iTunes this week Windows 8 recognizes the iPod but does not offer an option to open with iTunes. iTunes does not recognize iPod Touch. Have followed all the steps but without success. Is there a solution with iTunes?
I followed all the instructions on the suggested page. Many files in C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\ and C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\ could not be deleted. Message said ""Cannot delete files: It is being used by another person or program"' but could not find iPodService.exe in task manager (also, the "Cannont delete ... " did not mention iPodService.exe).
Deleted all that I could. Reinstalled iTunes. Still same result. iTunes and computer both recognize my old iPod. Only the computer recognizes iPod Touch.
