ITunes duplicates song titles

Hello,
I have an iPhone 5 with the latest iOS (I check for updates weekly).  I sync the phone to my iMac (2014 model).
What I notice is that for several albums, the songs are listed twice.  But for many of the duplicates, the title of the song is not the actual track it should go with.  These are all from albums I've purchased from the iTunes store, or uploaded from my CD library.
Does anyone know how to correct this?  Syncing in iTunes doesn't seem to rectify the problem.
Thanks

Bill:
There is a wonderful AppleScript: Delete iTunes Dupes.
This script will examine your iTunes Library for duplicates based on one or more vectors that you select (you'll get a dialogue box with a list, you command+click to select multiple categories). This way, if you have a track with the same name, from the same artist, but from different albums, that track will not come up as a duplicate. If you import CDs at a high bitrate or in an uncompressed format, then re-encode for different uses, you can select bitrate and kind as additional vectors for distinguishing what is and what is not a duplicate.
The script will create a playlist called "Dupes" and will put both copies of the track into it, and you can command+click to select which tracks you want to delete. To remove them from the Library as well, hold down the option key when deleting. The script itself takes some time to complete - you'll get a spinning b&w beachball until it's done (but that won't interfere with iTunes loperations).
Hope this helps.

  • Duplicate song titles

Why am i getting duplicate song titles [ up to 4 ] in my music library when I upload my CD's

Move all your music files outside the iTunes folder to another location (make a new folder for the occasion).
Delete the iTunes library file in the iTunes folder (make a backup copy for safety)
Start iTunes. Your library should be empty.
Select "add to library" and select the folder with your music files.
This should give you a brand new library with no duplicates unless the music files themselves have duplicates.
Check if all your music had been moved back to the ITunes Music folder.
Check if the music you bought from the Music Store can be played (you may have to authorize your computer again, but this seems unlikely).
Delete the folder where you copied your music to, once you're certain everything is back in place.

  • Duplicate song titles for imported CD library

Had my computer crash, but had music files backedup. Had itunes installed at the time, but not the latest version. Up and running now with XP Pro/service pack 2. I can see all my music files. Installed the new version of itunes as a new user since the harddrive was reformateed assumed this was right. Everything seemed to load fine - supposedly music files were converted, etc. When checking Music Library, I saw all my music (over 300 CD's) successfully imported and something strange was all my former playlist were listed in the playlist column. Now here is the problem - in Itunes music library, for each song there is two or three duplicates under the same CD title. When trying to make a new playlist by dragging a song over to a new playlist title, only one of the songs can be movee. The other duplicates cannot be moved and as soon as I click on one, an exclamation marked is recorded by the song. Since I've got the 40GB IPOD, I had created playlist for each artist and so just about all my music was in a playlist and is my IPOD. For the few CD's I had previoulsy added(before the crash) that were not in a playlist, these songs are not duplicated and can be moved to a new playlist with no problem. Tried the unistall and reinstall, this did not work. Tried deleting some of the old playlist, unistalling and reinstalling to see if the duplicate song title problem was solved and this did not work. Besides manually massaging my entire CD library to delete the empty song titles, is there something I can do? (By the way, the crash was a software probelm and not a hardware issue)

when I burn a cd the track listing does not show the song titles when it is in someone else's computer, but it does when it is in mine. Any suggestions?
After you burn the CD in your computer, select the CD in iTunes.
Make sure the song info is correct then menu Advanced -> Submit CD track names.
This will send the info to Gracenote, which is where iTunes (and other apps) get the track names.
    Dunno about the icon.

  • I just transferred music from a desktop to a laptop to put on itunes. After this exhausting process of renaming and renaming unnamed tracks, when I play one on itunes the song title disappears and though the song plays, I have to rewrite name of song.

I just transferred music from a desktop to a laptop to put on itunes. After this exhausting process of renaming and renaming unnamed tracks (b/c itunes made me rename them even after I rewrote the names in the music folder of my computer even though I hadn't put the songs onto itunes beforehand when the tracks were unnamed), when I play one on itunes the song title disappears and though the song plays, I have to AGAIN rewrite the name of the song. Is there an actually answer out there???!

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
i guess you are referring to iTunes Match. It sounds as though you haven't downloaded all the content and are trying to play your music over a poor connection.

  • IPod and iTunes - Duplicate song file problem

I have many songs on my iPod that are the same. Is there an easy way to do a search and delete of all duplicate songs in one easy step, either thru the iPod itself, or iTunes?
Thanks in advance for your help!
    Keith in MI

You can delete songs through the iPod on the iPod.
Are these songs in your iTunes library as well? You can go to edit-->show duplicates and then delete one of each copy.
There is no automatic way of doing this on Windows.

  • Itunes resetting song titles

I have a group of midi's in itunes that are mislabeled. I rename them in itunes (I've tried both double clicking the song title, and going into the 'get info' menu)
The next time I play the song, itunes reverts the title of the song back, I can't get it too stay renamed, and I can't figure out why this is happening. I'm running windows vista 64x, with itunes 9.0.1.8

Make sure you have write permission to the files. Otherwise, changes you make to the tags cannot be saved.

  • Itunes library & song titles

I am new to mac and was a bit impatient when i got it, and immeadately began importing albums on to my hard drive w/o out an internet connection figuring I could just have them added later. but i can't figure out how to do it. I've reinserted the same CD and got the song titles but they don't transfer into the library! please help because thats alot of typing!!

"I don't believe that it is possible to get the track names for songs that are already on your HD."
Yes you can. Just follow the directions that macmenno has posted.
The CDDB online database that iTunes uses comes the number of tracks and their duration with those in its database to figure out the appropriate track info.

  • Duplicate Song Title problem with Zen Mi

    Hello,
I have a dark blue Zen Micro and with firmware I downloaded it is now version 2..02. As part of downloading the new firmware, all the songs were erased from my player. My problem started when I was re-loading all my songs. Every time it came across a song that had the same title as a song already loaded on my player (even if the artist was different), it stopped and gave me the option to either skip this song, skip all duplicates, replace the song or replace all duplicates. No option to load onto the player anyway.
Since I happen to have a lot of songs that have the same title, but different artist, I am now missing a lot of songs on my player. When I called customer service, they told me to try re-naming the duplicates with a "2", i.e. Songtitle and Songtitle2. This didn't work, it still recognized the songs as duplicates, even with the '2', and wouldn't load them.
This never happened with the old version - I was able to load all songs with no problem and I think it only notified me when the song title AND artist matched -- and even then I had the option to load it anyway if I wanted.
Anyone know how to fix this? Ideally, I'd like to find a way to get the songs on my player without altering the song titles... Or if there is no way to fix it, anyone know how to remove this firmware and go back to the earlier version? I kind of wish I never loaded it now, even though the customer service person told me the latest firmware is always the best version to have.
    Thanks in advance!

Certainly with the v firmware a duplicate is defined as having the same title, artist and album tag. If any of these differ then it isn't a duplicate... so I'm surprised you're not finding this with the MTP firmware.
It might perhaps be with the MTP firmware it can't tolerate the same filename so this is worth double checking (whereas on the v2 firmware it doesn't care).
Also triple check the tags on these supposed duplicate files using some good tagging software, that will show both the v and v2 tag.
    Are these MP3 files?

  • Duplicate song titles in Zen To

The way that the Zen Touch stores songs works for 95% of my music. However, I've got a bunch of albums that I've downloaded from archi've.org (li've concerts), as well as some other li've albums in which the artist plays the same song twice. So the album, artist, and title are all duplicate, but the track number is different. The filenames on my computer are different (I use a track-artist-title naming convention), so I've got no problem playing them with MediaMonkey or WinAmp, but, even though the Zen can read and understand the track number (it obviously can play an album in track order), it ignores it when storing the songs, meaning that, for instance, I can only listen to the first time Johnny Cash sings San Quentin on my Li've At San Quentin album (not an obscure title), but not the second.
From reading moderator posts from March saying that the firmware update would be out "any time now", I understand that I'm tilting at a windmill here, but this kind of a change should take no more than a day to code up and fully test, and would make the Zen compatable with all of my albums rather than most without adding significantly to the size of the database. Yes, I realize I could go through and rename every duplicate track in my 6000 song collection, but it seems silly since a fix should be dirt easy and the other programs I use to manage and play my music is smart enough to read the track number tag.
    Not hopeful, just sayin'...

I'd be wary of making broadbrush statements like this. Having worked with software development nothing is ever this easy, and without knowing Creative's player intimately, how the coding works, and how it's tested, it's not possible to make conclusi've leaps like this.
Despite this, I absolutely agree that the track number should be included in the database index, but we've been saying this since the days of the NJB (4+ years ago) so I wouldn't hold your breath ?Also it's been listed on my wishlist page for a long while.

  • ITunes Changes Song Titles When I drop Them In a Playlist

I am using ITunes 10.2.1 When I drag a song to a playlist if there are numbers in the title iTunes deletes the numbers ex. "1. MySong" becomes "Mysong".  I like the numbers in there to keep track of the song order visually.  How do I fix this?

I have the same problem. Also, I don't want to store everything in a Artist / Album folder/directory, but in what is for classical music more logical: Composer / Album / Artist (= orchestra & conductor or soloist or the like). But also keep in mind that some characters are not allowed in naming a Windows-folder or filename. These characters are: \ / : * ? " | This is typical for any Windows-version (even Windows 7 32bit or 64bit). When you use these characters in iTunes, they will be changed in a '_'. E.g.: Bach: Matthaüspassion in iTunes will be in the Windows folder Bach_ Matthäuspassion.
Also, the total lenght of a filename in Windows (any Windows-version) is max. 256 characters, including folders and subfolders. So, even you change iTunes for another program for ripping and organizing your music like Mediamonkey, these limitations stand. Mediamonkey is not truncating the filenames into a maximum of 32 characters. iTunes has nevertheless the advantage using the CDDB-Gracenote database for its metadata and not FreeDB like the most of the other music library organizers. Although far from perfect, the Gracenote metadata are much more consistent for classical music than the FreeDB metadata. FreeDB is good for modern music, but it's crap for classical music. Less known alternatives like MusicBrainz are also rather consistent, but are too small. To give an idea: Gracenote and FreeDB have both metadata of more than 90 million cd's. MusicBrainz has only 8 million.

  • PLEASE HELP - DUPLICATE SONG TITL

Hi all, just wondering if anyone can tell me how i can put songs onto my creative vision M with the same name or is it not possible? It just comes up with skip track or replace track, and i dont want to skip it or replace the existing track with the same name. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks 4 ur time!

I actually have quite a few songs that have the same name, so I had to add a - or other acceptable character to the end of the title. That's the only thing I found that worked for me.

  • Itunes deletes song titles

I have several midi files that i have imported to my itunes and when i play them itunes deletes the name and retitles them as 'untitled' so every time i play them i have to rename them. how do i fix this?!

Normally, iTunes does not modify titles.  Sometimes the problem is caused by another program on your computer.  In particular, go into Windows Media Player, and on the Library tab, and make sure that all those funny options like "Rename music file using rip settings" are all not checked.

  • Ipod nano has duplicate songs but itunes does not

I have been routinely deleting the duplicate songs from the music folder in itunes however, when I have synchronized my ipod nano second generation with itunes I am seeing many duplicate song titles on the ipod song list. Would it help if I deleted the songs from the ipod and downloaded them again from itunes? The only other reason for this is that when I am asked to delete certain songs I have chosen to send them to a recycle bin somewhere
    Dell 8100   Windows XP

A spelling or punctuation mistake, or sometimes a trailing space usually causes this after the artists and/or song name, which fools the iPod into thinking that there are two different artists or songs. The trailing space is the hardest to spot.

Best way to cure this is to go into iTunes, highlight that artist and/or songs, right click on them and select "get info".

This brings up the multiple song info window. In the artist or song box retype the name, as you would like it, and then click ok. Do this even if no mistakes are immediately visible.

Re sync this new artist/song info to your iPod.
