ITunes & DVD Burning

I have purchased some "TV Movies" and downloaded them onto my MacPro. As I would like to watch them on my MacBookPro as well, I burnt the Dvd's with the iTunes built in program. So far so good, they show up ok on the MacPro Superdrive....but when I load the disc into the MacBookPro it is not recognised at all.
However.....if I start up Parallels on my MBPro and run the Windows version of iTunes (same version) the disc and movies do show up!!!
Any ideas please? Thanks.

If talking about purchased videos: Sorry - no way to do so due to DRM: Not through iTunes nor through any 3rd party application.

  • ITunes DVD burn settings

I'm about to take some of my own advice and see about burning my purchased music to a DVD-R of some stripe. That way I'll have an external backup even if my backup drives and computer get zorched by a lightning strike or a massive surge.
Here is the question. When buring a data CD or DVD directly from iTunes, does iTunes finish the disk even if it isn't full? Is there an option to burn just a session and finish the entire disk later?
    Anybody know?
    Doc

After the last song is burned iTunes immediatly finishes the (data)disk.
    Sorry, no multi-session option.

  • ITunes DVD Burn Issue

I receive the following: The attempt to burn a disc failed. The device failed to responde properly, unable to recover or retry.
I have downloaded all of the upgrades; I have checked that the device is supported in the system profiler; but I am unable to burn anything (photos, itunes etc).
    How do I fix this?

Is there an additional driver that came with your LaCie? You might try to remove it, as OS X 10.4.2 should not need such a driver.
You might try to install Patchburn from http://www.patchburn.de instead.
Also worth a try: Delete in .User/yourusername/Library/Preferences
    com.apple.digihub.playlist
    com.apple.systempreferences.plist
After that switch off and on again your Mac

  • ITunes Backup trying to burn to wrong DVD burner

My MacBook Pro has a built-in DVD writer (which I have not had success using lately) and I also just purchased a Samsung SE-S084D External USB DVD Writer, because of my trouble burning DVDs with the internal drive.
I've got the Samsung burner connected and when I insert a blank disc, I get the pop-up from the OS that asks if I want to launch Finder, iTunes, etc. I can burn files to the drive from Finder (at 6X) just fine. iTunes however...
I have iTunes 10.1.1 (4). I go to File | Library | Back Up to Disc... In the window that comes up, it lets me choose one of the two DVD burners:
    MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-857E
    TSSTcorp CDDVDW SE-S084D
Clearly the first is the internal drive and the second is the Samsung USB external drive.
If I set it to the second one (the external drive), then iTunes gets stuck on "Please insert a blank disc...". I've tried ejecting and reinserting the disc, inserting the disc before starting iTunes, etc. Nothing works. Then on a whim I wondered if it was really using the drive that I told it to use. So I tried to do another burn to the EXTERNAL drive and when it said "Please insert a blank disc...", I put a disc in the INTERNAL drive. Voila! The message went away and iTunes proceeded to attempt to burn using the internal drive, which failed in a minute or two (which is the reason why I bought the external DVD writer in the first place!).
I tried many times and even though I choose "TSSTcorp CDDVDW SE-S084D", iTunes keeps trying to use the internal drive. Then I wondered if iTunes perhaps was displaying the wrong labels for the drives, so I tried to instead selecting "MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-857E", hoping that iTunes would use the external drive. No dice. iTunes still used the internal drive. By the way, the Samsung shipped with the TS00 version of the firmware - I upgraded the firmware to version TS01 (the latest), but that didn't help with my iTunes problem.
So it seems to me that I have stumbled on a bug where iTunes DVD burning doesn't work properly on a system with multiple DVD writers. In the GUI, it offers a choice of DVD writers, but this seems to have no effect.
    Can anyone verify this?
I suppose if I get desperate, I could try opening up the MacBook Pro and disconnecting the cable from the internal drive, on the hope that iTunes would then only one see DVD writer and would hopefully not get confused. That's pretty extreme though and I'd rather not open up the computer just to test out a theory.
Known issue? Can anyone verify this? Any other ideas for a software method for convincing iTunes to use the external DVD writer?
    Thanks in advance!
    -Marc

I use the console to watch for errors when burning CDs. The console can be found in the utilities directory under applications. I also use the system profiler to see if it reports the second drive seeing the empty disk, however your comment about being able to write playlist info says its seeing it and writing to the usb disk.
It maybe that iTunes doesn't support the USB DVD drive you have, or try moving to another USB port, preferable a high speed port, usb2. Again watch the console for messages being reported during the burn, buffer under or over runs, or read/write errors.
For the internal drive issue, either a bad or broken drive. One last thing to check is disk space, make sure it has more than 10% of free space left. If the drive is close to full, it could cause similar issues as you report.
    Good luck

  • ITunes Seem to Have Suddenly Stopped Communicating With the CD/DVD Burner

Hello, I wonder if anybody can help - my itunes application seems to have suddenly stopped communicating with my laptop's cd/dvd burner
    (Generic Name (E: H - T-S D D A S - 20N ATA Device)).
About 2 years ago, I have experienced a similar problem, but was able to resolve it by downloading 64-bit compatible GEAR drivers to my system. However, the problem has re-appeared when I have updated to iTunes Version 10.1. Funny enough, the cd/dvd burner started getting recognized again when I updated to iTunes Version 10.2, but halfway through me burning a large playlist to multiple cds has suddenly stopped recognizing the cd/dvd burner again, and has never "resolved itself" ever since.
I have tried multiple approaches to solving this issue, including completely re-installing itunes software and completely re-installing GEAR drivers, but nothing works. I have even tried uninstalling GEAR drivers completely, as I read that it worked for someone on one of the similar forums, but that didn't work either.
My itunes diagnostics runs all the points of the cd/dvd drive check successfully, except for the last point (Can Not Read Audio CD). Here's what the diagnostics summary looks like:

I have noticed that the diagnostics summary containes a suggestion to update firmware of my laptop's cd/dvd drive, but currently there are no such firmware updates available.
Another frustrating issue that I ran into was trying to convey this issue to Apple Technical Support via e-mail using the Express Lane for the troubleshooting issues. I really fail to understand why I am being asked for the "hardware serial number" when I'm clearly choosing the categories for "iTunes/CD-DVD Import Issues" which are software, not hardware, categories! This prevents me from being able to simply send the description of my problem to the correct Apple Support department, and does not let me do that even when I enter my itunes' Serial Number, which can be found in the diagnostics summary provided above.
Much Thanks to anyone who can provide any kind of helpful advice, even if it's just on how to be able to convey this problem to Apple Support via e-mail!

Is that true? Or do you in fact have a Windows user account with full administrative rights?
(It's possible that a permission may have gone astray in your usual user account, which might be causing the burning issues.)

  • New DVD burner not working w/iTunes

Okay, I've been working on this and digging through these forums for awhile now. I'm still stumped. So here we go:
I had a new DVD burner installed. I'm using Nero software which works fine for DVD, data, etc. However, iTunes gives me the "disc burner or software not found" message if I try to burn a disc from iTunes.
I have completely uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes (yes, latest version) twice now. No go.
In edit>preferences>advanced>burning CD burner: still shows the old CD-RW.
iTunes will recognize and play prerecorded CDs and ask if I want to import them.
In help>diagnostics>CD/DVD drive tests, after putting in a prerecorded CD as requested: Optical drive detected IS the correct device (D: ASUS DRW-1814BL) BUT I get a red dot with "no audio CD found" yet the songs are showing in the device window (in actual iTunes behind the diagnostic window).

  • Sony DVD Burner and 350 mhz AGP not being recognised by iTunes

I managed to get a Sony DVD Burner for my friends Powermac g4 AGP, the sales assistant sais it would be comatible for macs....it installed fine and wa sable to read dvd's perfectly, when my friend went to burn a CD from iTunes it would not work as it seems the drive is not supported. I have tried finidng some drivers all over the sony website for it but to no avail. I don't suppose anyone has any experience with this brand of burner? Any help would be appreciated thanks.

As I recall, Sony's internal DVD burners are made by Lite-On, but as far as the G4 is concerned - the drive's firmware indicates a Sony product. A compatibilty problem for burning a disk occurs, when the CD/DVD drive is newer than the supporting profiles for Apple's Disk Burner software. Have you checked into "PatchBurn?" Other than that, your friend could purchase Roxio's "Toast," which has more user settings than Apple's software.

  • ITunes 7.3 failed back up data DVD burn had error code 261(0x00000105).

Just bought a bunch of new songs and went to back them up in iTunes 7.3 and I keep getting error code 261(0x00000105).
Any ideas? Did not have this problem in prior versions. Brner works fine with other programs.

Keep getting the same error as well. Run cd/dvd diagnostics and it should tell you... "The last failed data CD or DVD burn had error code 261(0x00000105)".

  • ITunes 7.1 loses track of some registry files necessary for CD/DVD burning

Has anyone else seen this odd error message. I installed iTunes 7.1, then restarted my computer as instructed. When I rebooted and ran iTunes, I got an odd error message indicating that some registry files were missing and that this was likely because I had recently installed a CD/DVD burning program. The problem is that I haven't installed such a problem.
Now I believe I have found a solution: I ran the installation again, and when prompted I told the installer to repair iTunes. The message didn't come back after that, but does this mean that the issue was solved or simply that the message only shows the first two times or so after the installation? But, most of all, has anyone else seen this message?

does itunes 7 have a dvd burning feature to burn tv shows to dvd? Who do i email to request this feature if itunes 7 doesn't have it?

It does not have it because the movie studios and television producers do not want it (not because Apple can't/won't put it in there).

  • Backup iTunes library problem using LaCie DVD Burner error message - help!

    Hi!
I just purchased a LaCie D2 DVD +-RW DVD Burner for my Mac Mini running OS 10.4.8 and iTunes 7.0.2. I've installed the latest LaCie drivers and iTunes recognizes the burner so no problem there. When I try to back up my purchased playlist iTunes checks the media everythings fine but when it tries to start the burn process I get this error message: "The attempt to burn a disc failed. An unknown error occurred (-8785)." It then ejects the DVD-R. The Burner works fine with Toast, so the issue is with iTunes. I've tried using both Apple DVD-R's and Sony brand just in case that was it. Any ideas? Please?
    Thank you,
    Sam

i recently got an error message while burning a dvd with lacie. i had been using the same cd's etc. found the solution on roxio boards (which don't allow just anybody to join obviously).
the problem is iSight. it can cause problems with the lacie while hooked up to the other firewire connection. unplugged the camera and viola!!! lacie works again.
    hope this helps you too!!!

    No you cannot.
You can only make a backup dvd of your movies, fo use in itunes on yur computer.  You cannot burn a video product to dvd to watch on a dvd player, just as you cannot copy a dvd that you purchase.

Is it possible to download an episode of a tv show on iTunes and then burn it on a dvd?

I tried to do the same thing with episodes of 24. You can take the files from itunes and burn a data DVD, but my dvd player wont read them, it's only readable on other computers with a DVD drive. You can burn anything from itunes to dvd.

  • Will LaCie 301910 DVD burner work to backup iTunes 10 library?

My iMac disc drive is only working for CDs.  I am not sure whether the LaCie DVD burner (301910) will work to backup iTunes.
If it won't, what drive would you suggest?
Also, in iTunes 10 I do not see an option to backup up to DVDs. Is there a way to do a DVD backup of the iTunes library?
(Since upgrade to Snow Leopard I have had over 10 new songs completely disappear from the HD so that they are not on my (Time Machine)
backups to an external HD and I would prefer to have a reliable backup system.)
    Thanks.

Thanks a lot. That definately helps my decision. I loved using lightscribe burners (except the slow speed for the disc labeling) back in my PC days and I'm glad to see that it works on a Mac.

  • Problems ripping with an external DVD Burner

    Hello Everyone,
Recently I purchased a Liteon External DVD Burner off of newegg (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16827106011) -- It's a Liteon SHW-1635SX -- I bought this because the DVD-ROM drive thats in my tower natively is REALLY slow and I wanted to get a new one that I could use with a laptop that I`m going to purchase in the future. Whenever I try to rip a CD into iTunes using the burner, It says that it's ripping the disk, however it doesn't spin up the cd and it takes about 2 seconds to "rip" all the songs. I know this drive is soposed to be faster than my old one, But two seconds is a little TOO fast. Plus, I know that it's not copying the songs because when I try to listen to them in my library, the song won't play. (Under time it says "789:54..." for all the songs on the cd, in my library) However, the burner rips perfectly in Windows Media Player... Is this perhaps some kind of glitch with iTunes??? Basicly, the only way I can rip a CD into iTunes is to use my old DVDROM drive, but that defeats the purpose... below is the CD Diagnostic log that I got from iTunes::::::::
