"iTunes encountered an unexpected problem and has shut down"

A deeply annoying interruption every time i have tried to use iTunes on my PC since I downloaded the latest version of iTunes. Would dearly like to know how to fix this so welcome any suggestions. NB: harsh language hasn't done the trick so far........

Doublechecking. In the course of your troubleshooting to date, have you worked through the following document?

  • Itunes has encountered a problem and is shutting down

I recently downloaded the updates for my ipad. Now, when I connect my ipad to itunes on windows 7, it appears to sync. Then clicking on ipad and apps, a window comes up saying "itunes has encountered a problem and is shutting down." I downloaded the itunes update hoping that would help, but no go.

  • ITunes 9.1.1 - "Encountered an unexpected error and has to close"

Hi I downloaded the latest iTunes upgrade and ever since I've been having problems.
iTunes will be fine until I sync my brand new iPod Nano and then I get a Windows message saying "iTunes has encountered an unexpected error and has to close". Then everytime after that, whether the iPod is plugged in or not, I get the same message.
Has anyone else had this problem and been able to resolve it?

Sorry about the continued questions (this one is a bit odd).
Then after that, as soon as I click the iTunes icon, I get that message, regardless of whether the iPod's plugged in or not.
In some ways, the oddest thing is that you can get iTunes launching again after the issue starts happening.
Does the error when trying to launch go away after you restart the PC? Or do you have to do something different?
If it's clearing up after a restart, could you check something for me?
Provoke the nano-plugging-in error. Don't try to open iTunes again just at the moment.
Now bring up your Task Manager. Go into the processes tab. Click the "Image name" header to sort the processes alphabetically. Even though you've had that error message, is there still an iTunes.exe process listed in that tab?
If so, right-click on the process and select "end process". Does Windows let you end the process? If it does, can you launch iTunes again without the error?
(Trying to work out here if you're getting an an unusual variation of problems associated with security software interference with syncing, or possibly an idiosyncratic sort of iTunes preference files issue. Both can sometimes be associated with "unknown module" crashes, although I tend to expect something more like an iTunes.dll to be cited as the faulting module if that's afoot.)

I am trying to use the trial creative cloud software on a PC windows 8.1 - I've downloaded and removed Photoshop CC 2014 two times - every time I open the file it says there is a problem and it shuts down and closes. I can open indesign and maybe other apps but photoshop no. Any ideas?

I don't think I can access the crash report? Excuse the ignorant questions I'm about to make am a relative tech novice.
Soo - as mentioned every time I open photoshop it crashes - it just says there's an error and the program will shut down and if there's a solution windows will notify me. Then nothing...
I've tried to look in photoshop files for the detailed crash report & the system event viewer but cannot find a file with those names. I've also looked in the windows files for files with those names but cannot find them either - so I don't know where to look.
    Any guidance would be great.

  • I have Windows 7. When I try to print an album cover on a CD I burned, I get an error message that  there is a problem and it shuts down iTunes and says will notify me once the problem is fixed

I have iTunes version 11.3.1.2 and a Windows 7 Professional aith Service Pack 1.  When I try to print a CD cover from a disc I burned, I get an error message that stops the printing task and shuts down iTunes and tells me once the problem is found they will notify me.  When this happened before I got sent a message from Apple that I needed to install a new verion of iTunes.  I believe I now have the latest iTunes version.  So why can't I print?
Is this the problem below?  Does the graphics driver cause the problem?
Solve a problem with NVIDIA Graphics Driver
NVIDIA Graphics Driver has stopped working properly.
A driver update, if available, might prevent this problem from recurring.

Try a different media. I have good luck using Maxell discs.

Hello miss.d.p, and welcome to discussions.
Below are 2 main links to assist with Apple Software. The first link covers all the programs that belong to Apple that you can remove through add/remove programs. And then you download and install latest iTunes and sync again.
If for some reason first link does not work you can then look at the second link below. Please post back if you need more assistance.

    Hello Suzanne,
Thank you for providing the details of iTunes unexpectedly quitting.  You have taken some really good troubleshooting steps already.  I found an article with additional steps you can take to further isolate and troubleshoot an issue like the one you described:

  • I am running iTunes 10.4.1.10 and it shuts down my internet connection

Ever since I upgraded to iTunes 10.4.1.10, while I am listening to iTunes Radio, my Motorola DOCSIS 3.0, modem will stop working - ALWAYS preceeded by iTunes stopping functioning. I have had my internet provider out to see if the signal is dropping and it is not. I have gone many hours not using iTunes and have been able to maintain an internet connection without interruption. I see from googling this type of problem that it has occured for some users in the past. This has never happened for me until this version. I have done lots of upgrades running the same OS and modem without problems until now. Any suggestions?

  • CS2 IS NOW STARTING TO "HAVING A PROBLEM" AND MUST SHUT DOWN.

Is Adobe so poor that they have to decimate my work to force me into buying new?
CS2 was my tool to use for clean up and such for my artwork for the past several years.
I even tried cs5 and cs6, just in case, but really preferred the old version/comfortable and familiar for my needs.
Well, computer crashed, had to get a new one and tried to reinstall my cs2 from my original purchased disc.
It wouldn't take, tried for about an hour and then had to go to this "support" site to find out my version was no longer "supported".
They sent me a link, and a process to get it working again, great says I, and thanked the "support" person.
Well, since that time, last several weeks now, photoshop cs2 seems to enjoy freezing itself up, and letting me now it will look for a "solution"
, of course it never does, and I lose valuable time and artwork. I try as monkey like as I can to try and save as I go, hoping the banana will drop
and I will eat another day, but seriously, it's stupid and of course never foolproof as I need to to focous on the work, not playing games with a program.
I really don't have the money or the need to buy an updated program. I just need this one to work like it has for the years I have owned it.
I'm an artist who works hard and is not wealthy, or inclined to jump into spending on things I clearly don't need or can afford just to stay current.
Heck, I still prefer pencil and paper to a cintiqu, though I do greatly enjoy my wacom tablet.
This all said, how do I get this problem fixed?
Oh yeah, and of course, it's now impossible to actually even contact "support" directly for this help, as they have better things to do.

    Ok, try the Preferences reset:
To re-create the preferences files for Photoshop, start the application while holding down Ctrl+Alt+Shift (Windows) or Command+Option+Shift (Mac OS).
This is the website for the CS2 products. They are free to those who own the discontinued activation products.
And, no they are meant to work permanently. Adobe is not sabotaging anything.
Download Acrobat 7 and CS2 products

  • When i try to start itunes i get error -45054 and it shuts down, help!

Can anyone help? i´ve searched for this error number, but there is no info on it. Thanks!

Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall move on to the next item)
    Bonjour
    Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.
    Please note:
Some users may need to follow all the steps in whichever of the following support documents applies to their system. These include some additional manual file and folder deletions not mentioned above.

  • Itunes has encountered a problem and has to close.

When I opened iTunes the first time today, I had no problem, but then I went to the store, then my computer froze, so I closed it.. And now I downloaded the update and whenever I try to open it a box pops up saying "iTunes has encountered a problem and must close.. " Or at least something like that.
You also might find this information helpful:
AppName: itunes.exe AppVer: 9.1.0.79 ModName: unknown
    ModVer: 0.0.0.0 Offset: 000000dd
and yes, my quicktime works fine..

Yup, I've got the same problem although it's installed but now it just won't open and says it has a problem and has to close instantly the second you click a shortcut.
    hi Frenchy!
you don't say explicitly so i'll ask you too. have you tried this procedure yet?
b noir, "itunes has encountered a problem. help please?" #8, 04:10pm Sep 18, 2005 CDT
make sure you follow the instructions precisely. if for any reason you can't complete the cleanup instructions, post back to describe the problem.
if your itunes still isn't launching after you try that, we'd better check to see if you've got a rare registry problem that can also produce the same error message.
we diagnose that by creating a new user account (with full administrative privileges). you can do that in your "user accounts" control panel. there's help documentation on it to the left of the screen. while you're in there, also switch off "fast user switching" in your logging-on preferences.
now log on to the new user account. can you successfully launch itunes from inside there?
keep us posted on your progress.
    love, b

I had to restore my computer this week. itunes was working fine before I restored. I have a video ipod. I installed from the disc but it encountered a problem half way through. I removed this using the control panel. I then downloaded itunes from apple.com. It installed it but it won't open, it comes up with itunes has encountered a problem and has to close.
I have used all the info on apple.com on how to deal with this, but to no avail.
    Please can somebody help me
