  • ITunes Encounters Problem And Must Close - AND Converting Podacsts

Why does this happen? Sometimes when I watch a podcast and I either close it or it finishes playing, a window comes up saying "iTunes has encountered a problem and must close."
Also... Why does iTunes make us convert some of the podcasts. Makes no sense to me why WE have to sit through converting something just to watch it on th iPod, I think that surely Apple has the technology to keep this from happening.

  • Quicktime encounters problem and must close. Sorry for inconvenience.

I have downloaded Quicktime now 3 times and each time downloaded it again after first removing it from the control panel. Up to a few months ago I never had a problem and used it for many years as such. I think the problems started when the combination iTunes/Quicktime came on the market but I might be wrong. I have downloaded the combination, then Quicktime separately and iTunes separately but to no avail.
I am an amateur in the field of problem soving so ask for your help. I have the icon sitting on the desktop but when I click on it I get immediately the message:
"Quicktime encounters problem and must close. Sorry for inconvenience." What I don't think I had before is the fact that during installing I say the Icon appearing on my desktop and immediately my computer goes black and start
a reboot. So I suppose my problem can be anything.
I most likely messed something up.
    Your assistance is greatly appreciated.

What I don't think I had before is the fact that during installing I say the Icon appearing on my desktop and immediately my computer goes black and start
    a reboot.
That's a bit disconcerting. Are you getting a flash of a blue screen as well?
We can make "hidden" blue screens stick around a little longer by using the following technique:
    1) Open your system control panel (Start->Control Panels->System).
    2) Select the "Advanced" tab.
    3) Click the "Startup and Recover" section's "Settings" button
    4) Verify that under "System Failure" the "Automatically restart" checkbox is not checked.
Make those settings changes, and try another install.
If you do get a blue screen this time, what numerical and text codes are you getting with it? (ie 0x[zeros/letters/numbers] CAPSANDUNDERSCORES)
if the blue screen mentions a specific file, let us know what that is called too. (exact spelling, please.)

  • Itunes freezing up and not responding

I have a Dell laptop running on Vista. I recently had to restore my iPhone 4S, and each time I launch iTunes, it opens and then stops responding. ("Not responding" shows in the task manager.) My laptop is very sluggish now, so I purchased a new laptop. Now I want to sync my newly-restored iphone with my old laptop but keep having the same problem. I also want to move my iTunes files to my new laptop, but because of the freezing up and "not responding", I am stuck. Any suggestions on how to resolve this problem?

I'm having the same problem! I updated iTunes and now the program opens but doesn't respond to certain commands. HATE HATE HATE...
I'm reinstalling now thinking that may help...fingers crossed.
I'll have no other way to load up my iPad, or the 3 iPhones in my house!

  • ITunes encounters error and needs to close?

i bought an ipod about a year and a half ago... everything worked fine until i decided to upgrade. itunes does not work at all! at first when i clicked on the shortcut (i have windows) nothing would happen. now i try again, and it always comes up and says: "iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close." i have been trying this for a month and a half w/ no success. PLEASE HELP, I'M ABOUT TO GIVE UP ON ITUNES ENTIRELY!

+"iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close."+
let's first check to see if this is associated with a problem with your QuickTime. (iTunes needs a properly functioning QuickTime in order to work correctly.)
try launching your QuickTime. does it:
    (a) launch perfectly fine?
    (b) fail to launch with an error message? (if so, what does it say?)
    (c) exhibit other peculiar behavior? (if so, could you describe it for us?)

  • Itunes encountered problem and needs to be closed

i keep trying to open itunes, but before it even opens, it says theres a problem and needs to be closed. is there anyway i can fix this?

The first thing I'd suggest is to get a good antispyware checker and give it a go at your system. Some recent spyware has been reported by other users to shut down iTunes or prevent it from launching. From user reports, Ewido seems to be the best at catching it. You can download a free version of Ewido here.
If that doesn't cure the problem, make sure that any antivirus/antispyware application you have is set to allow iTunes to operate. Some antivirus/antispyware has been known to shut down iTunes.
If that still doesn't help, take a look at iTunes for Windows: Troubleshooting unexpected quits, freezes, or launch failures
If that still doesn't work, try deleting the iTunes preference files:
    C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iTunes.pref
    and
    C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Data\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iTunes.pref
You might have to turn on "show hidden files" to find them. (Right click "my computer", select open, select Tools menu -> Folder Options. Select View tab, "show hidden files" radio button is in the center scrolling panel.) Delete them or if you want to be able to put them back if it doesn't help, drag them to some other location. This will force iTunes to run the setup assistant the next time you launch iTunes. Note that you'll have to go back and set any preferences you've changed from the default.
If that still doesn't work, try this:
Bugie: Perform a Thorough & Complete Uninstall and Reinstall of iTunes/QuickTime.
    Hope this helps.

  • ITUNES encountering problem and needs to close.....

I have tried to install Itunes on my son's laptop today, I keep getting message saing it has encountered a problem ande needs to close, we are sorry for the inconvenience!!! I have not been able to open itunes at all. Have tried uninstalling it and reinstalling it a few times with the same result. Just bought him an ipod but he cant use it until itunes works - HELP!!!!!!!!

I have been working on the same problem for over a month! It has been so frustrating. I've unstalled and installed iTunes a ton of times. I also did the same for Quicktime.
Per b noir's recommendation in this thread, I tried to see if it was my Quicktime and when I tried to launch the application, it did nothing. That's when I believed it was really Quicktime I was having a problem with.
I was reading one of b noir's replies to another discussion (Can't install iTunes and Quicktime over old Installation) and (s)he gave a few suggestions that I followed (thank you b noir):
    1. On the Start menu, click My Computer (or double-click My Computer on the Desktop).
    2. In My Computer, open Local Disk.
    3. Open Program Files.
    4. Right-click on the QuickTime folder and click Delete from the shortcut menu.
    5. Navigate to C:\Windows\system32\.
    6. Remove the files QuickTime.qts and QuicktimeVR.qtx. (my files actually said Quicktime and QuicktimeVR. I left QuickTimeCheck.ocx there)
This is the step I added:
    7. Then I noticed that under the C:\Windows\system32\ folder, there was another Quicktime folder. I clicked on it and deleted it all. I believe it was an old version of Quicktime.
    8. Went back to apple website and downloaded iTunes again. It asked me if I wanted to repair or uninstall (I think). I picked repair. It reinstalled Quicktime.
    9. I launched Quicktime by itself and it launched!
    10. Then I tried iTunes and it launched also!
I hope this helps in some way - the steps worked for me, but please don't delete anything that you are not sure about. I know how frustrating it is since I am just a novice user when it comes to stuff like this. I'm happy my iTunes is working for the moment. Hopefully I didn't do more damage elsewhere.

  • ITunes encounters problem

I try to open iTunes and it says it has encountered an error and needs to close. Also if i try to install quicktime, just to see if tht would help it says a newer version is already in download. Can u help me fix this problem?

    i get the same thing.
    if you are getting the:
iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close.
... message, then the first thing you should check for is a broken QuickTime. does your Quicktime currently launch, or do you get an error message when you try to launch it?
if you're getting an error message, try a careful QT 7.0.4 standalone install.
download and save the installer to your hard drive. (we'll run the install from there rather than on line.) switch off all antivirus and antispyware applications prior to the install.
    Quicktime 7.0.4 Standalone Installer
    keep us posted.

  • Sudden problem with iTunes quitting - problem and solution

This is a fairly lengthy diatribe but it was driving me nuts and so hopefully will help someone else:
    The Problem:
I have an XPS M1710 running Windows Vista. A couple of days ago all Apple programs started to malfunction, specifically iTunes, QuickTime. When I try to start iTunes it quits immediately and I get the message “A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available”. The same thing happens with Quicktime. When I go to Internet Explorer this works fine until I go to the Apple website and try to Download iTunes (to reinstall) or even to go to the Apple Support page, Then the Apple site seems to “force” IE to quit. The same thing happens when I use the Apple Safari Browser (works generally but quits on Apple iTunes or support site). I am not sure if it is relevant but we bought some iTunes songs online in the last couple of days using another laptop. That machine is still working fine as are two other laptops in the house re iTunes (they are Windows XP Dells, my machine is Windows Vista). I received an email receipt on my XPS for the purchases in the usual fashion. I can open it, but when I click the links to the iTunes site it doesn’t work (does work using other computers).
I have performed 2 system restores (to 2 and 4 weeks ago – long before the current problem) but this did not help. I have uninstalled iTunes – but even so still could not directly download the iTunes setup.exe from Apple. I did eventually get it from a third party link. Using the downloaded file I reinstalled iTunes but exactly the same problems persist. On one occasion I let the “A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available” dialogue box sit for a while – the system identified some Apple updates needed which I downloaded and installed (in fact I had done these probably a week or so ago anyway but the system restore would have reverted that). This still did not fix the problem.
Today I phoned XPS support. I was initially told to leave my number and someone would call me back. 2 hours later no-one had so I phoned again and got someone who suggested doing a full scan disk (ie by getting into diagnostics at startup by pressing F12). I did this – no problems found. The person had also suggested trying to access iTunes using a different logon account. I switch on “guest” account and tried from there but the same problem persisted.
I have checked Windows Defender and Windows Firewall and as far as I can see iTunes is allowed to access the internet. No sign that it is deliberately blocked. As far as I can tell from the Windows updater the system is up to date (as it was when the problem first happened, and not fixed by rolling back many updates via the system restores).
I have run a full Virus check using Kaspersky (with latest updated database) and nothing was found.
So, no matter what I try, my computer is suddenly blocking everything to do with iTunes (and Quicktime), including Apple’s own support site. The failure of iTunes or QuickTime to launch happens whether or not I am connected to the Internet at the time. All other programs seem to be working.
I would be very appreciative if you could help. I have been unable to find any online solution, although one person may have had a similar problem, no resolution was evident.
    The solution:
I have only just now solved the problem (two weeks down the track). The Dell technician that I spoke to over the phone tried hard but we could not get the issue solved completely, although the problem with accessing the iTunes website we did solve by turning off some internet explorer add-ons. As it turned out the problem was with QuickTime. The clue was that although I had attempted to uninstall iTunes + Quicktime many times the QuickTime component never disappeared. So when I reinstalled iTunes + QuickTime (which I did many times) the problem remained. After again uninstalling iTunes + QuickTime (by going to control panel, selecting iTunes and uninstall, then QuickTime and unintstall in the usual way, and realising that QuickTime did not uninstall properly, I then selected QuickTime and chose the "repair" option at the top of the control panel dialogue box instead of uninstall. After that I was then able to open QuickTime properly, and then when I reinstalled iTunes it worked! This had been driving me nuts, and I was on the verge of re-installing the operating system. Can I suggest that you enter this solution into your database for future reference.

I was wondering if you ever fixed this problem? Today I went to open itunes and it started installing it and said it couldn't access the file ja.lproj/ea0423.rtf which would be the Japanese language version. I just wanted to know if I should do what was suggested to you or if that didn't work.

  • Itunes sync problems (and wish list)

No doubt the iPhone is the most beautiful mobile phone with the greatest (and most consistent user experience). Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for iTunes! This tool (and being forced to use it) is the single greatest frustration in the iPhone experience!
I am sure many may not agree with me, especially considering it works fairly well as long as you don't change computers, want to sync two different iDevices (with same account BUT different content), temporarily remove apps/songs because of storage limitations, use app folders and expect iTunes to respect their content and placement, or try anything else outside iTunes limited scope. In short, iTunes is either incredibly non-inuitive, I am an idiot for not figuring it out, or it is absolutely the worst part about the iDevice family.
My problems began when I changed computers and since then, I have not been able to sync to my new computer. The problem is (or seems) that iTune is insisting on syncing in *one direction only*, with the message, "Are you sure you want to sync apps? All existing apps and their data on the iPhone "xxxxxxx" will be replaced with apps from this iTunes library." This message appears when I attempt to check the Sync Apps check box.
So what do I do? I have already deleted iTunes and reinstalled it.
    - Yes, I have right-clicked on DEVICES, and selected BACKUP and SYNC and TRANSFER PURCHASES (why so many options AND what the heck are the differences?)
    - If I ignore that dire warning and select Sync Apps, the preview window shows all my apps in a jumbled mess. In stark contrast, my iPhone apps are arranged in my own logical order and placed in organized app folders. I am afraid if I click SYNC, this is the mess that iTunes will send to my iPhone!
All I want to do is start over... I just want to back up (or sync) the contents of my iPhone like I have done for the past two years.
Can someone please tell me how to sync iPhone ---> iTunes?
I love iDevices... if I have to purchase another tool, I am happy to do so.
    What about Touchcopy? http://www.wideanglesoftware.com/touchcopy/index.php?gclid=CPqksPK0wbICFYdxQgodV EQAGQ
Or is iTunes more capable than I realise?
Thank you for your kind assistance!

Oh yes, my wish list for iTunes:
    - Clearer messages that are more intuitive than what appears now.
    - The ability to store/swap apps/music/etc. temporarily off-line (because of iDevice storage constraints)
A backup/offline storage area that is ignored when syncing
    - iTunes should respect apps and app folder content and placements
    - Allow for multiple iDevices (with different content) on same iTunes account
I have an iPod, iPad, and iPhone - I want to be able to independently sync them on a single computer
      with a single iTunes account.
    - Make it easier to sync in either direction (and change sync direction)
    - Allow syncing (or backing up) of apps content. For instance, QUICKVOICE app! I cannot sync the content of this app! Apple doesn't allow access to the datastores (like Android) - very frustrating that I may have to resort to backing up this audio analog via an audio cable! Ridiculous!
    - Allow us to use the iDevice as a temporary USB storage device! Grrr... this is frustrating that I cannot do this! I admit, this has little to do with iTunes
However, it is the forced requirement of iTunes that is frustrating. This means that I cannot easily place documents to/from my iPhone (documents too large to email) when I at work because iTunes is not an allowed software.

  • Tried EVERYTHING. No iTunes, encounters problems etc..

As it says, I have tried nearly EVERY single trouble shooting tip their is. See, this is my first time I have had this problem, I download iTunes numbers of times, and it's been perfect. Then today, all of a sudden, I get a "valid win32" thing.

    Seen this?
iTunes: Windows reports that iTunesSetup.exe is not a "valid Win32 application"
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=304945
    Does it help?

  • ITunes Rental Problem and no way to submit questions to Itunes help desk

I need to send a message regarding some rental movies I got that won't download to my Ipod, but every time I go to the support page and fill in my account information, it asks me to choose a catagory for my question but doesn't show any catagories to choose. Does anyone have the email address for the Itunes support center so I can ask them what the heck is going on?

There is no published email address for the iTunes Store. The web forms are the only contact method provided.
I presume you're using this page, yes?
    http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/store/browser/
If so, try clearing your browser's cache and try the page again. If you continue to have problems with the page not displaying any categories, you might try a different web browser.
As to your problem, what model of iPod do you have? Are you aware that rentals are only supported on the iPhone, iPod touch, iPod classic (released in September of 2007 - the older 5th-generation iPod does not support rentals), or iPod Nano (3rd generation)?

  • ITunes encounters error and startup fails

My iTunes will not load. Up until this happened iTunes was working just fine. I'm running Windows XP Media Center on a Pentium Dual processor PC with 2Gb RAM. I have tried to re-install both iTunes & QuickTime and the iTunes error message appears during the un-install so that fails. I have unloaded both iTunes and QuickTime manually and tried to re-install with no success. There are files left on the harddrive from both programs when I manually delete and I cannot remove them using Windows Explorer. Should I try removing in Safe Mode? Any other help would be greatly appreciated. Windows Media Player is just not the same! Thanks

For anyone reading this, I have resolved. I started XP in Safe Mode (F8 at startup) and manually deleted all files relating to both iTunes and QuickTime with the exception of 1 iTunes file that looked like it might be my music data file. I then re-installed iTunes & QuickTime and both programs now work and I still have all music data in my Playlists.

  • App store and itunes language problem and restoring phone

Hi, I recently purchased an iPhone 3G 8GB off of eBay. The phone is unlocked and jailbroken. I want to remove the jailbreak and have a normal iPhone, but still have the phone unlocked. The phone is a Rogers phone and the carrier I am usign is Fido. I have heard that if I try to restore the phone, it will be bricked, and also that I will not be able to unlock it ever again if I do manage to restore it. What do I do? Because I really want to get the phone back to its normal settings. Secondly, my app store and itunes menus are in french. ( the bottom dark gray area where it says selection, search, update etc.)But the description of the apps and thir names are in English. Same for iTunes. I bought the phone from a man in Quebec. I changed the language to English, and the region to Canada, and have tried rebooting the phone and syncing it with my iTunes. But the app store and iTunes bottom menus are still in French. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

    ferrari91 wrote:

You cannot. If you need to use the phone with Fido, sell it and buy a Fido-locked phone. Since jailbreaking violates Apple's EULA and voids the warranty, the only advice you can obtain here is to sell your phone, or restore it and get service from Rogers.
Secondly, my app store and itunes menus are in french.
    A restore will fix this.
