ITunes erasing music?

Argh. Okay, this is driving me crazy. I purchased an iPod Touch (2nd generation) back in August; similarly, I finally downloaded the 2.1 software update, and followed with a song purchase from the iTunes Store.
For some odd reason, iTunes isn't saving my purchased music in its library; as a matter of fact, all my downloaded music has been erased from not only my Touch, but also from iTunes and my hard-drive. The Touch manual isn't really helping, and I can't even report a problem when I check my purchase history (which SHOWS that I've purchased the aforementioned tracks). Where are all those random "backups" going, anyway? (And do they even contain iTunes content?) The purchases supposedly "transferred" to my Library--my Touch is constantly syncing with iTunes (automatically); is that somehow affecting my library? Adjacently, only one of my song purchases has shown up on my bank account?
I'm not sure where this topic should be placed, but the problem seems to lie within iTunes and the iTunes store.
I'm avoiding doing another restore (since my Touch's been acting up before now) because I'm not sure why iTunes isn't working, and I have around 34 applications mixed in that I'd rather not seek out and download/purchase. Again. Only my podcasts seem to be unaffected.
What should I do?

I have an original iPhone and have the same problem or at least a very similar one. I bought a song directly from the phone several weeks ago, and at first couldn't find a way to copy it to my iTunes library. Now that I have figured out how to do so, I went back to my phone's music library, and the song is gone! iTunes must have erased it during some previous sync (though I'm sure I never gave my consent to it erasing any songs). Has this happened to anyone else? How do I get the song back?

  • ITunes erased music libray

I had songs & videos on iTunes & earlier version of iPhone. Husband purchased his first iPhone (3G) & I bought new 3G iPhone as well.
My songs & videos were installed just fine on my new 3G iPhone upon registration of phone.
Set up separate accounts on iTunes using separate email/ID & separate passwords.
I bought & downloaded 4 new songs on iTunes. Went to sync with my iPhone & all previous songs & videos are deleted from both my iTunes library AND my iPhone.
Husband just now buying & downloading music for his new iPhone. When husband logs into iTunes account MY new music is in his account (my old library is still gone ...).
Any help on how to fix/avoid in the future would be appreciated.

Even though they are not in your itunes library, they should still be on your PC's hard drive.
Are you on XP? The default folder is
    C:\Documents and Settings\ username \My Documents\My Music\iTunes\iTunes Music
So look in both folders, under your Windows username and your husband's.
There should have been two ITL files, also in the folder one level up for each account
    C:\Documents and Settings\ username \My Documents\My Music\iTunes

  • Itunes erased all music and now wont sync

I was syncing a song to my iPhone like I always did, and then when I checked my iPhone, the song was all distorted with no vocals. When I played it on iTunes, the song was fine. So then I tried to sync it again, and the song wouldn't show up on the device. So then I tried syncing again and iTunes erased ALL my music. Everything's gone yet it says it's there. I checked on the memory space and it shows the same amount of GB left it had when I had all the songs in. But they won't show up on the Music app. Now every time I try to sync, it starts transferring purchases which took 30 minutes for 40 apps and now only says that it's transferring 18 apps.
Wth is happening with iTunes and my device? How can I fix this? It's really annoying

Mine did the same thing!!! I lost all of my music and my playlists and nothing shows up on my phone. It's getting really annoying and I wish someone would explain what the heck is going on.

  • I accidentally erased music somehow from my itunes library, how can i get it back?

i accidentally erased music somehow from my itunes library, how can i get it back?  I'm not sure how I did it, but I do know something has been wierd ever since.  i remember using it and arranging songs, and then, bing!  Songs were missing.  Please help!
Not quite sure what info you need to answer this.   I dont have all my music synced to icloud unfortunately...at least not that i'm aware of.

You either have an incredibly complex computer setup or I think you are confusing terminology here.  If you have iTunes set to share your library with others in your iTunes preferences then other computers in the area will see it as an item when they are running their iTunes and have it set to check for shared libraries.  Your husband is probably seeing this when running iTunes on his computer.  You can disable this sharing on your computer and/or he can set his not to pick up shared libraries.
By the way, an iTunes account is something you log into when you want to buy something from Apple.  On your computer it is simply your iTunes collection or your iTunes application.  So you need to turn off sharing in your iTunes application preferences.
Your husband is seeing "his" iTunes collection when running iTunes, but it is possible he doesn't have anything in it if it is a brand new computer.

  • Itunes and erasing music.

My question is if i delete my songs that i have stored on my itunes would it also delete them from my ipod the next time i plug in my ipod to update. If this is the case how do i not make the songs from my ipod not erase the next time i update my ipod from itunes. Also How do you make the ipod stop updating automatically everytime you plug it into the computer.

If your iPod is set for automatic update then any change you make to iTunes will be updated. You can change the setting to manual update by connecting your iPod, when it appears in the source list go to iTunes>Preferences>Music and check the radio button "manually manage songs and playlists"
You'll find more information here: http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/tutorial/ipgettingstartedt3.html
Just a word of caution, unless you have a backup, if you delete songs from your iTunes and later have problems with your iPod you could lose the deleted songs entirely.

  • How can i download music from my computer to my ipod nano without erasing music already there?

how can i download music from my computer to my ipod nano without erasing music already there?

If the music you are wanting to have on your iphone was purchased through itunes you can then go to your front display to settings>itunes and app store from there you have a toggled switch that allows you to automatically download music and apps by toggling the switch. You will need to toggle the switch below these switchs that allows for cellular data to be enabled if this has not already been enabled. This then will automatically download music and apps directly to your device with no additional charge to you.
    Good luck.

  • Is it possible to restore songs (not purchased through itunes) erased from a device by itunes sync?

I recently had to reinstall itunes after all of my computer files were completely lost. When I plugged my iphone into itunes and attempted to transfer my music from the phone to the computer (running windows 8.1), itunes erased all of my music that was not purchased through apple (and also ruined my playlists). Because the files on my computer were all lost, i do not have this music backed up anywhere.
I was wondering if there was any way to recover all of the songs that itunes had erased from my phone.
This really is quite frustrating because the deleted songs arent even available on itunes itself for purchase!

    no
It is very important to always maintain a backup copy of your computer.

  • Question about managing itunes match music in ios8

In ios7 I was able to keep track of how much music was being downloaded via itunes match as it streamed from my phone, and I could see how much space was being used as I listen to music.  I'm not seeing the same ability in ios8 - I assume all the music I "stream" that gets downloaded to my device but isn't showing up in music usage is going into "other" - but I don't see a way to determine how much space this is actually using on my phone other than guessing by how many gigs "other" uses when I connect to itunes.  But I don't see a way to see this directly on my phone.  Neither by looking at how much space is left on my phone (this doesn't seem to update by playing itunes match music), or my looking at the actual music files on my phone, which are only showing songs that I physically downloaded vs. playing from the cloud.
Also, can I delete all the music on my phone that is stored from playing on itunes match but I didn't actually hit the download button for?  In ios7 I was able to have the cached music automatically go away by turning itunes match off - I got mixed results when I did this yesterday and had to reformat my phone to clear out the "other" space - and I"m just guessing at this point that this is why my other got so large.
Any clarity around how this is handled in ios8 vs ios7 would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi there.
I have the same problem, and its annoying. In iOS7 I was able to delete all the music that i played via streaming, and I play music like that 98% of yhe time. In iOS 8 i can only delete music that I have explicitly download but the streamed one seems to be hide.
The only solution to this, that is a waste of time is to turn of "show all music", see which music is already downloaded, downloads manually and the erase it.
Hope Apple release and update to fix this problems

As of iOS 5, you can indeed delete music directly from the iPad.

No idea what you mean. All management of what is on your iPod is done using iTunes. Here are a couple of links will take you to instruction pages.

what to do if itunes erases the songs on your iphone and won't allow you to resync them back?

Do you get any specific error messages?  Double-check the following:
On the summary tab of your iTunes sync settings you have checked "Sync only checked songs and videos"
In your music library you have checked all the songs you want to sync to your phone
There are no exclamation points next to any of the songs you want to sync to your phone
You have authorized your computer for all Apple IDs for any purchased music you want to sync to your phone (in Store>Authorize this computer)
You have checked "Sync Music" on the Music tab of your iTunes sync settings
When everything looks correct, sync your phone.

  • Will itunes erase my iphone if I set it up as new?

I've had my iphone for a while and am just now connecting it to itunes to load music.  I've got SMS, apps and photos on it already.  When I connect to iTunes, it asks if I want to set up as new or restore from backuo (no backups).
If I set it up as new will iTunes erase the apps, SMS, and photos?

I'm sorry you think it's a silly question.  I did read the guide and it doesn't say how to set it up as a new device without deleting everything.  Next time you find a "silly" question maybe you can just move on so it doesn't offend you instead of judging without helping.
    To everyone else
Thanks for your advice and links, unfortunately nothing seems to answer my question.
    Here's my situation:
    1) Bought a new iPhone from Verizon last month
    2) The iphone activated without me having to connect to iTunes
    3) In the interim, I took photos, downloaded apps, texted friends, etc
    4) I wanted to load music, so I plugged it into iTunes
    5) iTunes wants me to set up as a new phone or restore from backup, but the only backup file is from an iPod I have
    6) iTunes doesn't give me the choice of backing up my iPhone (when I right-click on the device all I get is "eject" and "restore from backup")
I also tried checking "Prevent iPads, iPhones, and iPods from syncing automatically" in iTunes
I just want to put music on my phone but can't seem to get past iTunes wanting to set it up and I'm afraid it'll delete everything if I do.
    iPhone 4
    iOS 5.1
    iTunes 10.6.3.25
    Any suggestions???
    Thanks!

  • ITunes deleting music off iTunes

Its now more than 5 times my iTunes erased all of my music off of it. Every single time I didn't do anything. Most situations I just closed the program or shut down and I will come back to everything completely gone. I already called apple technical support and I got no help what so ever.
    iTunes version: 7.0.1.8
Before this everything was fine, No problems
      Windows XP

Go to the Summary page for your iTunes sync settings and confirm that you have checked "Sync only checked songs and videos".  The click on Music under Library on the left sidebar, navigate to the songs in question and confirm than they are unchecked.  If not, make these changes and sync again.

  • ITunes Purchased Music Won't Play

OK, I must be doing something wrong. I sync my iPhone and it gets all the music I had selected. But I've discovered a number of songs that won't play...and these just happen to be iTunes purchased music! My regular mp3's will play.
Now I know the purchased songs work because they play on my Nano and Shuffle2. The purchased songs also play in iTunes.
    Any ideas?
And a second question...I've downloaded a few TV shows which play fine in iTunes but do not play on the iPhone. Is there a "trick" to playing my purchased music and video on the iPhone?
    Thanks,
    Mike

    Hi!
I discovered that my purchase music and videos stopped playing when I went into a Tully's coffee shop and attempted to access their Wi-fi network. I don't know if this was the cause of me losing access to my purchase music, but this is when the problems started. When I got home today I unloaded all the music playlists off of my iphone using itunes, and then I added them back in and re-synced. This seem to do the trick. I can now listen to all of my purchased music and watch my purchased videos. Give it a try. I hope that we don't have to do this sort of thing all the time.

I have iTunes on my iPad. I have a new iPod nano. How do I connect iPod to iPad to download iTunes and music library?

    Hi Divine Inspiration,
You wouldn't connect the iPod to the iPad for data transfers. Music is stored and shared either through a computer or iCloud.
