ITunes erasing purchased music from iPhone

Please help!
I have purchased three songs via the iPhone during the last two months. When I connect my iPhone to my computer the purchased songs are erased without any notification. All other material on my iPhone remains intact (i.e., songs imported from cd's, audio books, movies etc...) If I download songs via my computer/iTunes everything is fine.
sys info:
iPhone F/W 1.1.4
iTunes 7
Windows XP

Thank you for the quick response.
However, the files/songs never get copied to my computer. (i.e., never synced over to iTunes nor my hard drive) I have performed a complete search and the files just do not exist. The first time this occurred, iTunes support stated that the download was incomplete and reissued a download. I proceeded to download the song via my computer without any issues. To this day it is still in the purchased folder. (Note: after originally downloading the song via iPhone, it worked perfectly on the phone until sync)
This scenario happened again with the last two purchases. Both songs loaded fine to the iPhone via iPhone's iTunes. The songs played on the phone for ever a week and then stopped once i plugged the phone into iTunes via computer.
Do you think I may have a setting that is hampering my songs from being copied from my iPhone to my computer?
I would like to get this cleared up before I try to download another song via my iPhone.
thanks,
BBB

  • Purchasing music from iPhone

How does it work if I purchase music on iPhones? Will the songs be transfered from iPhone to my computer when I sync? Or will the music download from iTunes to my computer when I open iTunes on the computer?
Is the song quality the same regardless if it is purchased via iPhone or my computer?
    Thanks

If you purchase music on your iPhone it will be the same quality as if you purchase it on your computer. After purchasing the music the next time you sync to your computer the purchased music will be transferred to your iTunes Library and then you can back it up. If your iPhone is set to autosync this will be done as part of the sync, if you are manually managing your music you will have to go into iTunes and direct the transfer of the songs.
It is a good idea to sync ASAP as soon as possible after your purchase, and make sure you are syncing on your computer and you are logged into the same iTunes account that you used to purchase the music on the iPhone.

  • Transferring purchased music from iPhone to iTunes

I purchased a song on my iPhone, but it doesn't want to transfer to my iTunes when I try to drag it. Transferring purchased songs from my iTunes to my iPhone is no problem, just not the other way around. Does anyone know how to do this? I have a 3G iPhone.

Do you have Sync Music selected under the Music tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes?
If so, this is automatic, or should be. With Sync Music selected under the Music tab, after purchasing a song with your iPhone the song will be copied to your iTunes library automatically the first time you sync your iPhone with iTunes after doing so. The same applies with 3rd party apps if you have Sync Apps selected under the Apps tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes.
Are you manually managing music and video with your iPhone with this selected under the Summary tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes? If so, after music is downloaded with your iPhone it will not be copied to your iTunes library automatically the first time you sync your iPhone with iTunes after doing so since you are manually managing music and video with your iPhone, which provides no benefit with an iPhone whatsoever compared to doing the same with an iPod since an iPhone doesn't support disk mode.
If you are manually managing music and video with your iPhone, music and video is not being transferred to your iPhone automatically - it is being done manually - hence the name of the option - "manually manage music and videos". If you choose to manually manage music and videos, then you've also chosen to manually transfer any music or video that was downloaded from the iTunes store with your iPhone from your iPhone to your iTunes library.

  • Transferring non-purchased music from iphone to itunes

I've got an iphone with a lot of music I originally transferred from my CDs onto itunes then onto my iphone. My laptop with all my itunes and music on was reently stolen and I don't want to go through the pain of reloading all my CDs. I have managed to transfer purchases from my old account (which I shut down as a result of the theft), but cannot work out how to transfer the CD music from the iphone to the new computer and itunes. It keeps telling me I'm going to wipe the iphone. Any help?

You'll have to use third party software, as Apple makes no provision to do so:

  • Cannot Transfer Purchased Music from iPhone to iTunes

    Hello,
I recently purchased a couple albums on my iPhone and downloaded them on the iPhone.  When I synched my iPhone to iTunes on my PC, I expected that these purchased songs would be transferred - that's what usually happens.
In this case, the songs now appear in my iTunes library, but they're greyed out, each with the small circular sync symbol on the left side.  I am trying to figure out how to get these songs into iTunes.
I've tried navigating to the iTunes store > Purchased, selecting "Recent Purchases" and I can see my songs.  There is a disabled button to the right of each song that said "Downloaded"... so apparently I'm not able to download them again...
Then I tried right-clicking my iPhone (while connected to iTunes) and selecting "Transfer Purchases" - one would hope that this would do it, but alas it's not to be.  The status window shows "Transferring purchases" very quickly, then back to normal (Apple icon).  The songs aren't transferred.
Any suggestions on what to do next would be greatly appreciated.

I seem to have resolved it somehow while waiting on the phone for Apple support.
I turned everything on my iPhone and in iTunes related to iCould to "off".  Glad Apple support had me on hold fo 45 minutes or else I'd never have found the time to fix this.  Glad I saved some $$$.
Judging by some of the other threads, it's probably wise to disable iCloud stuff if you don't live in the US.

  • ITunes Radio Purchase Missing from iPhone w/Match Enabled

I recently purchased Usher's 'Scream' while listening to iTunes Radio on my iPhone 5. Purchase went through successfully, but when I try to download it locally from the iTunes store app on my iPhone the download appears to complete but it never appears in my Music app.
I have iTunes Match enabled and the cloud version of the song also is missing from my music list (I have the display all songs setting enabled). I checked my iMac in iTunes and the song appears (cloud version) and a local copy downloaded just fine.
Seem to be out of luck on my phone - any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Andrew

Are you able to find the song when you open the Music app, select Songs and search for it?

  • Transferring Non-Purchased music from iPhone to computer.

My Windows computer recently crashed and the hard drive was wiped. I want to transfer all my music from my iPhone 4 to my new computer. I have tried a few of the third party software options and none seemed to work. Also, when I try to activate the "manually manage music and videos" option in the iPhone summary in iTunes, it does not let me unless I Erase and Sync to the new library. Please help..

This is not a feature of the iPhone and iTunes. The iPhone is NOT a backup device.
There are 3rd party utilities that can do what you want.

There are a number of legitimate 3rd party alternatives to iTunes for iOS device content management.

  • Transferring Purchased Music from iPhone to new hard drive

Hard-drive burned up and has been replaced. Most music was backed up, but not all. And most of the new music (that hasn't been backed-up) is on the iPhone. But I can't copy the files on my iPhone back to my new hard drive. Obviously there are security measures to keep folks from transferring files all over the place. But it seems that if it's on my iPhone, I must have obtained it legally, and there must be some accommodation for a dead hard drive.
Same question for my iPhone apps. I'd rather not pay for apps twice, and iTunes won't let me copy them from my iPhone back onto my 'puter. As soon as I sync apps, they'll all disappear, unless there's some way to convince the phone that it's looking at the old, pre-burned-up-hard-drive.
File>Transfer Purchases sort of worked, but not completely. I have about 600 songs on my iPhone, and it copied about 200 of them to my new hard drive. I have music purchased from iTunes, music copied from purchased CDs, and free downloads (Starbucks, Paste, etc). And there's no trend in what got copied and what didn't. Some of each category was copied, but not all. Very confusing that I can't find a pattern.
    OS X 10.5.8, iPhone 3G with 3.1.3

Apps issue solved. Or, more accurately, it's a non-issue. iTunes prompts you that you already bought the app and can download it for free. Not so with music, I'm afraid.

  • Synching ringtones erases all music from iPhone?

I know how to make ringtones, but when I click the "snych" button on the ringtones tab for my phone in iTunes, it warns me that synching ringtones will remove all music and video from the iPhone. I tried it anyway, and it did remove everything else that I had syched previously. Why would this happen and how can you avoid it?

Well, it makes absolutely no sense, but I discovered that I can synch ringtones by dragging and dropping from the ringtones section of the library to the iPhone when it's connected to the laptop. It seems dumb to have everything else erased from the iPhone if ringtones are synched from the iTunes screen, but synching ringtones (and other content in the library) with drag-and-drop works fine so I'll just do that from now on...

  • Itunes removes all music from iphone during sync

Every other time I connect my iPhone to my computer the sync with iTunes causes the iPhone to lose all music. I only sync one playlist ("On-the-go") which contains all the albums I want on my phone and for my purposes is sufficient. I do not use iTunes Match (not even subscribed), only use iCloud for "Find My iPhone" and have very few "purchased" items as part of the playlist. All other purchases have been moved off the iPhone. In iTunes "Sync only checked songs and videos" is checked.  When I discover that the music is gone I can see in the Music pane of iTunes that none of the playlists are now checked. This is something that iTunes is doing by itself, I always leave one playlist checked. I'm getting a bit fed up of this - its been going on for several weeks now and takes far too long to copy the music back and then re-set alarms and other apps that use the music.
Any constructive suggestions would be gratefully received.
    iPhone 4S iOS 8.1.3
    iTunes 12.1.0.50
MacBook Pro (mid-2009) OS X 10.8.5 (NOT Mavericks as claimed below!)

I fixed this problem by dumping iTunes altogether and going with Amazon Cloud player app on the iPhone.  Much better experience than iTunes and iTunes Match.

  • ITunes removes all music from iPhone 4s

Then when I try to resync the still checked songs back to the iPhone, it quickly finishes the sync with no errors - but no songs are copied back to the iPhone.  If I set iTunes to manually sync - same thing.  No errors.  The only way to get the songs to sync again is to do a complete restore of the iPhone (which I've now done twice in two weeks).  I have iTunes Match setup but not on the phone as it is crippling slow and the volume of music (about 7800 songs) makes it impractical to download songs in the slow interface.
What is the problem??  Why is iTunes randomly dumping my phone's music!?
I sync my iPhone with my work computer (Windows 7 - iTunes 10.7.0.21).

  • How do I set up my iphone 5 so I can access my family account? I purchased music from itunes using my apple id, and those songs do not appear in our family cloud.

How do I set up my iphone 5 so that I can access my family account? Recently I purchased music from itunes using my apple id, and now I cannot find those songs in our cloud. I wanted to add those songs to my ipod. Do I have to buy them again using my husband's apple id?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
You can use different ID's for iTunes and iCloud.
Just delete the account in settings > iCloud and create them their own account.
if the children are minors, you wiil need to create and be responsible for each account yourself.
