  • ITunes failing on startup

I'm trying to open iTunes and every time i try to run it, whether or not its run as administrator it consistently gives me the "iTunes has stopped working and windows is looking for a solution" prompt.
    I have tried:
    Running in administrator mode
Updating iTunes through a new executable downloaded from apple.com
I am running Windows Vista 64-bit
any more information needed i can provide, just ask.
I am trying to avoid doing a uninstall then fresh install, to prevent having to re-associate all of my music files but if that is what it comes down to me needing to do, i can do it.

I had Vista too. It was a horrible OS. No longer supported by almost everyone. You can't upgrade your machine to windows 7 or 8 because most likely your hardware won't support it. you can now get a decent laptop for under $300 so if you can, I recommend saving the trouble you'll be so glad you did. I recently upgraded to 8.1 and it's been awesome, had the iTunes 12.1 prob though and here is my solution. I have a new Dell running Windows 8.1 and iTunes update 12.1 got error 193 and would not install, I tried numerous methods listed here. The folder some said to delete did not exist. uninstalling and reinstalling did not work. Rebooting to an earlier restore point did not work. I cannot say what will work for others, but here is what DID work for ME: Do not browse to the Apple site and download iTunes in Google Chrome, instead use Microsoft Explorer. When I went that route a different pop up box appeared asking if i want to repair or uninstall. (Repair did not work), selecting uninstall Then downloading the 64bit version (which I need) fully and successfully installed- not just saying it did, but actually working. I opened it up and re-synced to my iPhone 4s. Viola! (Btw, the day prior when purchasing an album over 3G not wifi all my stored music mysteriously disappeared, which ironically is what caused me to update iTunes to 12.1 but maybe this is unrelated, but both problems solved now. once iTunes was running again, everything was still in the cloud not lost just downloading to phone.) Hope this helps.

what shall i do my iphone showing activation failed during startup?

    Hi funkeyankey,
It sounds like your phone is not activating correctly when you are trying to set it up. I would recommend the troubleshooting from the following article named:
    Get help activating your iPhone
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3424
Check the system status for iOS Device Activation. If the iOS Device Activation status isn't green, try activating your iPhone later.
    Restart the iPhone.
Try to reach the activation server another way, then try to activate.
Try connecting to a known-good Wi-Fi network if you can't activate using a cellular data connection.
Try connecting to iTunes if you can't activate using Wi-Fi.
    Restore the iPhone.
If you receive an alert message when you try to activate your iPhone, place the iPhone in recovery mode and perform a restore. If you still can't complete the setup assistant due to an activation error, contact Apple for assistance.
If you're asked to enter a password to proceed with activating the iPhone, Activation Lock might be enabled as part of Find my iPhone.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    All the very best,
    Sterling

  • HT1926 Routine update of iTunes failed. Eventually had to uninstall and reinstall iTunes x2. Installation failed with message 'Service Apple Mobile Device failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services.

    Hi,
When I tried to install iTunes update this failed, then tried to uninstall and reinstall itunes twice. Failed again. Could not open iTunes. I use an HP PC. Even tried to disable Macafee firewall, still itunes failed to install. Please help!!

Followed these instructions with a few changes. (Windows 7 x64)
Uninstalled programs in the following order:
    - Itunes
    - Apple Application Support
    - Apple Software Update
    - Bonjour
    - Apple Mobile Device Support (uninstall failed due to Apple Mobile Device failure)***
    - Restarted System
    - Redownloaded Itunes from website.
    - Run installer as Administratot
    - Succefully installed
***To uninstall Apple Mobile Device Support
    - Right clicked on Apple Mobile Device Support, Clicked Charge (second option), Repair, Next (failed to repari)
    - Right clicked the Apple Mobile Device Support in the Programs and Features window and clicked Repair (third option in drop down list). (repaired successfully)
    - Uninstall successful after the repair.
Below is a guess at a quicker solution:
Looking at the uninstalls, it may be worth trying to repair the Apple Mobile Device Support through the Program and Features window before trying to uninstall everything.  It may be a faster fix for the freezing service.  After the repair is successful the itunes update may work.
    Hope this helps.

  • ITunes crashes on startup (7.4.3.1 and previous versions on Vista 32Bit)

Deleting/moving the itunes library files (iTunes Music Library.xml and iTunes Library.itl) makes it work fine which leads me to believe it crashes when loading the playlist. But not always!
iTunes crashes on startup on my vista 32bit.
Even after I upgraded to 7.4.3.1 and reinstalled iTunes several times.
I've also tried reinstalling quicktime and selecting "Repair" to no avail.
Running it in XP2 compatibility mode doesn't help.
    Disabling Aero doesn't help.
Whether or not my iPhone is plugged in or not seems to make no difference.
    This is the error msg.

  • Every movie purchase through iTunes fails to transfer to my iPhone or iPad and the message I get is this: some of the items in the itunes library, including were not copied to the ipad because you are not authorized for them on this computer... help?

For a couple months now, every movie purchase through iTunes fails to transfer to my iPhone or iPad giving me the error: "some of the items in the iTunes library, including were not copied to the iPad because you are not authorized for them on this computer". I have read many forums about deleting, reinstalling, de-authorizing and authorizing my iMac through the iTunes store. Many suggestions don't work except to rename the movie to *.MP4 in Finder under the iTunes movie directory. I imagine this is a setting or a bug somewhere... any suggestions on how to bypass having to rename the files in Finder? My research into Google suggests this problem dates back to 2007 or so but it is now more prevalent than ever.
    Thanks.

Try removing the Genius database.  In the "Finder" go to the /username/Music/iTunes/ folder and delete the "iTunes Library Genius.itdb" file. This may allow the program to launch again. This file will be recreated upon first use of the "Genius" feature.

  • Firefox fails to startup, with no error message whatsoever, after installing the Fireftp add-on.

Firefox fails to startup on OS X 10.6.4, after I install the FireFTP plugin. There's no crash message or anything, just a bouncing icon on the dock and then nothing happens. Creating a new profile solves the issue until i install FireFTP, which again produces the same effect.

    Hi Anselmo_MSW!
It looks as though you have followed the correct steps and no, you do not need to lift up both levers at the same time.
The error code 5100 indicates that an internal error has occurred which may be resolved by resetting the printer.  Please follow these steps for isolating and resetting the printer:
    1.  Open the printer's front cover, and then open and close the print head lock lever (do not remove the print head).
    2.  Make sure all ink tanks are seated properly.
    3.  Make sure all packing materials have been removed.
    4.  Make sure no paper is jammed in the printer.
    5.  Disconnect the printer cable from the printer.
    6.  Close the front cover and turn the printer off.
    7.  Unplug the printer from the power source, and then plug it back in after five minutes.
    8.  Power on the printer.
If the error returns, the printer will require service options.  I realize you have just purchased this and wanted to let you know that this is not the normal operation of our printers.  What I would recommend is contacting a Canon Representative using the following link to learn of your service options.  Contact Us.

iTunes fails to load.  Message is "Service Apple Mobile Device failed to start. Verify you have sufficient privileges to start system services." Never had this problem before trying to install this upgrade. How do I fix this?

Dave, same problem here.  And I did go in as admin to Administrative Tools, Services, Apple Mobile Devices and tried restarting the service.  It seems there is a bug with the newest update, period.  All of the normal "easy" steps don't work.  Before I remove all of Apple's programs, including Bonjour....I'm running a full system scan.
But the answer will be to remove all of the Apple stuff, then reboot, then use whatever utility you have to remove all temp files...then go download and install it again.  This has worked for several people (I read the thread before posting).  Win 7 64bit.  It just seems that Apple did not thoroughly test this new version.   Period.
If Apple reads this...I have many computers...and whenever Apple wants to update something...it just about stops everything else that is going on.  Total memory hog, even with 16G RAM and dual quad core processors.  It has to learn to play nice with others.
After the scan and I'm sure an hour or two of work...I'll re-post.
Of course if you do image back-ups, as I do, you can simply restore your drive to its previous state and run the previous version of iTunes, declining the update, until Apple gets it right.  Depending on the size of your drive, this could take hours.  It is a matter of choice, of course.

  • ITunes failing to reconize existing MP3 files.

Ok this has happened to me more than once, but now it has gotten really sevre and to the point I'm just not willing to fix it the way I have in the past.
Before my iTunes library approx 1600songs; 128 albums, was working fine. Every single song, from every single album was in iTunes properly, and all the tags were correct as I've spent a while meticulously sorting them out. I take great pride in the cleanliness and organization of my library.
However now my iTunes wants to be a jerk to me and refuse to play certain albums, and sometimes 1 or 2 songs from an album while the rest will work. Where the album art used to be proudly displayed, there is now ugly text that just tells me "Album art unmodifiable" and will not play the song when double clicked, or the play button is pressed.
I figured it might just be some wierd problem, so I deleted the albums in question from the library and tried to re-add them by dragging and dropping them into the iTunes window; to no avail, as iTunes fails to reconize that I have added it at all.
I decided to re-install iTunes, and delete the iTunes library folder in My Music and try again. It still will not reconize these albums, and I have no idea why.
Before it's done this with maybe say one album at a time, which I can live with as I would just gain another copy of the album, either by downloading or ripping from CD to mp3. An answer telling me to rip directly to iTunes won't do, because some of the CD's I own are currently not in my posession, and exist solely on my harddrive at the moment. What I'm looking to do is re-add the existing files back into iTunes without re-ripping, or re-downloading, as the ones I have already on my computer have completely correct tags, aswell as album artwork.
So right now iTunes seems to hate me and it's decided to do this with upwards of 10 albums out of nowhere. All my songs have had thier ID3 tags updated to the newest version via iTunes so the artwork and tags edited in iTunes would be displayed on my player (archos, at the time I don't own an iPod but this may change as killed my archos during an "operation" to fix the battery)
So I've been reading stickies and other posts but none seem to directly provide an answer to my seemingly unique case of iTunes difficulty.
Any help at all would be greatly appreciated as this has happened many times: too many to be considered funny.
I've read on the forum that burning to an audio CD and the using that to import into iTunes may work, HOWEVER so many full albums are doing this that it is not practical to burn so many CD's just to put them back onto my PC.
Is that an alternate solution where one does not have to use about 10-20 CDs?

Yeah, what stubchain said. If they play in WMP, then you've run into the bug where iTUnes can't read the MP3 tags.
iTunes has problems with v2.4 ID3 tags.
    http://www.id3.org/iTunes
iTunes also has a problem with v2.2 tags and artwork/beats per minutes tags on the same song.
Try setting them to v1 in another program and then see if iTunes can read them.
Then once iTnues can read tehm, I would convert them to v2.3 tags, which seem to be the most stable & have the best features.

    Hi lilnikeair!
Since iTunes uses QuickTime to play audio/video content in iTunes, that error message most likely indicates that there's a problem with your Quicktime installation.
Check out this knowledge base article for information about the issue:
