Itunes fails to install due to quicktime

i've tried downloading the 7.0 version of itunes several times and i keep getting a prompt stating i can't remove the old version of quicktime. i've tried downloading itunes separately and i get a error stating "can't locate the install folder for itunes". i've also tried removing quicktime manually through my control panel and i am denied. can someone please help me because i am completely stumped!!
custom   Windows XP

It is available at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301
Once you download and install it, you want to click Start > Programs > Windows Install Clean Up
This will launch a utility similar to Add/Remove Programs. Find QuickTime in the list, click on it, and click remove.
You can then try to install iTunes from here:

  • ITunes won't install due to quicktime

I don't know if anyone else has this problem, however i cannot install itunes on my computer anymore. Everytime i try it tells me that my version of quicktime is too new! i have quicktime version 7.2, trying to install itunes 8.1 and if i uninstall everything, the iTunes install freak out too!
I am totally confused! Any suggestions would be very much appreciated.
    thanks

    badalki,
I take it your not using Apple Update, Correct? If so What you could try doing is uninstall Quicktime and then try and install both from the stand alone installer found: http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
    Hope that helps.

Have you checked the requirements of the app. I can imagine, it is not 3GS compatible anymore.
This will happen to more and more app you have. Just don't update them.

  • New iTunes fails to Install

The new iTunes fails to install saying "The Installer has insufficient priveleges to modify C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\defaults\pref\itms.js". It then just exits when I hit "ok".
I'm running Vista and i turned off UAC to see if that would help, but no luck.
    Anyone seen this?

I also have similar problem. iTunes will not install on new HP desktop which uses Win 7 Professional and IE 9! Instal stops with note download was incomplete. Tried several times without Firewall and clearing IE history Still no luck! Is it a Win 7 or IE 9 problem?????

  • ITunes Fails to Install Apps

I bought a new app and downloaded it to iTunes.  It appears on the screen  but iTunes fails to install it to my iPod.  When I click "Install" it changes to "Will Install" but doesn't.  I can drag the icon from the Apps list to the  simulated iPod screen in iTunes but still it doesn't install it.  I have downloaded updates for a couple of apps and it does the same thing -- it never installs these updates either.
For what it's worth I have apps that do file transfers from iTunes to the iPod and these work - they do transfers and deletions. Also, every time I connect iTunes backs up the iPod.
    What's wrong?

I haven't done that for a while because the system never seems to accept my password when sent from the device anymore.  My password is 16 random uppercase and lowercase and digits and being mildly dyslexic it's anxiety producing and time consuming to enter it over and over just to have it not work again and again.
But, I'm sure it's the correct password because I can log onto the app store, buy and download apps.  I just did that before logging on here and making my original post.

iTunes fails to install with error Ox800736FD. Any ideas?
Trying to install on a Acer Aspire-- no CD/DVD

These ones are typically caused by underlying problems on the PC that also often cause Windows Updates to fail to install. If we can fix the Windows Update trouble, we can usually get the iTunes trouble cleaned up en passant.
Go into your Windows update and try to check for new updates. If updates install, stock up on the ones you're behind on, restarting the PC if requested to do so. After the restart, try installing iTunes again. Does it go through this time for you?
If windows updates fail to install, go into your Update History and doubleclick the failures. What alphanumeric codes appear for you? Are they also 800736FD, or some other number? (If they're another number, what number are you getting?)

Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall go to the next item)
    Bonjour
    Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.

  • ITunes fails to install automatically on Win 7 64-bit computer

iTune always fails to install automatically, and advises me to select to only download the updates, and then to install them manually. Well, there are five files that download: 1) AppleMobileDeviceSupport64.msi, 2)iTunes64.msi, 3)QuickTime.msi, 4) QuickTimeInstallerAdmin.exe, and 5)SetupAdmin.exe.
There are no further instructions as to which to install or in what sequence. So, I selected the iTunes64.msi, and after several "...verify that you have access to that directory" dialogue boxes, it installed -- (I do have version 10 now). But my iTunes doesn't say whether it is the 64-bit or 32-bit version that has been installed. How can I determine if I have installed the 64- or 32- bit version? And what do I do with the other files that were downloaded? Help, please!
I would truly 'perciate any advise!

  • Itunes failing to install

Hey. For the last week or so I have been trying to download the new itunes (9.0.3) and I have gotten as far as the setup wizard. Everything downloads fine in the beginning but when it asks you to install iTunes it fails to install. As soon as I click install the "preparing to install" dialogue box comes up then it would say "Invalid F: drive". I have tried different ways of downloading it (on website, itunes, apple software installer, etc.) the same thing happens and now the itunes program will not open at all. Instead a dialogue box comes up saying "The iTunes application could not be opened. A required component is not installed. Please repair or reinstall QuickTime (-42404)"

How do I change the drive letters?
Ackkk. My brain's fried as well ... it's actually pretty much the same set of instructions as for Vista, except that you start off by right-clicking *My Computer* and selecting "Manage". (I did up a Vista version of the instructions because people on Vista joined threads to say that they couldn't find "My Computer" on their PCs.
Also my Add/remove function disappeared 6 months ago.
Double-Ack ... okay, we can have a go at that (tomorrow) too.
Just checking on a rare weird problem (I've seen a confirmed case of it reported precisely once as I recall). Are you getting the symptoms described in the following Microsoft document?

  • ITunes won't install because of Quicktime?

When I tried to install iTunes, it went through the installation, but at the very end, it quit and i got a message saying,
The installation of Quicktime did not complete successfully. iTunes requires Quicktime.
The problem is, though, that I had just installed Quicktime less than an hour ago. Is there any other reason that iTunes will not install? Thanks.

I'm going through the SAME ****. I install Itunes and quicktime seems to go ok until the end of the installation and then all **** breaks loose. Some error comes up saying that I can't install it. THEN It says the installation finished successfully. So I click finish and what happends now is that it specifies that I need to update my quicktime to open itunes... I dont care about Quicktime, i want itunes to work, anyone have a link to an older STANDALONE version of itunes? Where you don't need quicktime?

  • ITunes Failing to install 11.0.5

I have been trying to update the new version of iTunes to my iMac - Snow Leopard version 10.6.8. using the software update, and it failed to install any update full stop!
There is no error message presented when I click 'Show Error'
I used Disk Utility to verify the disk and then to fix any errors. I tried again with no luck.
I have gone through tutorials to completely remove the old version of iTunes to install the new one. Again, no luck.
I have gone through tutorials to completely remove the old version of iTunes to install the new one. Again, no luck.
I tried to install an older version of iTunes again, the also didn't work
I tried installing the install from another hard drive/flash drive
So, I'm at a bit of a loose end in terms of sorting this **** problem out! SOS!

I used Disk Utility to verify the disk and then to fix any errors. I tried again with no luck.
Disk Utility will report errors if there any to be repaired, or it will say:  The HD appears to be ok
Try one more time just in case.
Launch Disk Utility located in HD > Applications > Utillities
Select the startup disk on the left then select the First Aid tab.
Click:  Verify Disk  (not Verify Disk Permissions)
If DU reports errors, start up from your Mac install disc to make repairs.
Instructions here >  Mac OS X 10.6: Reinstalling Mac OS X
And make sure there's enough free space on the disk. Control click the MacintoshHD icon on your desktop then click Get Info. You'll see Capacity & Available
Make sure there's at least 15% free disk space.
You can also view that information from the bottom of the Disk Utility window.

after the failed patch "installed" it left my sound not working... so far everything else appears to work. any thoughts on fixing this are appreciated. i ran diskutil and 'fixed perms' and 'verified disk' ... patch still fails.

Try reinstalling the patch. If you get all the way through the installation, then see if your sound works. If not, then I suggest you do a repair install of Sno by installing Sno over Sno as in an upgrade install. Such an install, while usually very safe, still is an install so be appropriated backed up if you proceed.
