Itunes fails to reopen when minimized

I installed onto Windows XP the latest version 8 - now when i minimize itunes to my tool bar as a mini control it doesnt work, so it still plays the music, but i can't maximize itunes from the bar, nor can i use any of the controls. In a nut shell the new upgrade makes the mini controller defunct.
Anyone know why this might be happening?
Also - i don't like the new itunes, the genius bar is a gimmick and the album art work is confusing, basically despite songs being in the same album, it creates multiple pieces of the same artwork for different songs! It's crazy.

Try a repair install of iTunes:
XP Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs > iTunes > Change > Repair.

With the 11.1.3 (8) upgrade, iTunes fails to launch when my iPhone 5 is connected to my MacPro. iPhoto launches automatically, as expected. When I manually launch iTunes, it will recognize the phone, but I must manually sync it and back it up. When I select the iPhone, open SUMMARY and view Options (at the bottom of the page), Options, the box that says "Automatically sync when this iPhone is connected" is grayed-out and cannot be checked or selected. I've re-downloaded and re-installed iTunes, to no avail. Any tips on how to restore this basic functionality?

ITunes fails to recognize when there is CD in CD drive

I was recently forced to upgrade to iTunes 7.0 in order to purchase music, and now it no longer recognizes when I put a CD in my disc drive, and thus I can no longer import music. However, when using another CD importing program, the drive performed perfectly. The only conclusion I was able to draw was that it was a problem with iTunes and not the drive. Has anyone had a similar problem, and how, if at all, were you able to solve it?

Same here. I hope someone comes up with an answer soon. Every question I've found in these forums so far that's applicable to my problems has not been answered.
Stopgap solution: I've been using File > Import, selecting the track by number (from a CD, it shows only Track 01, Track 02, etc.), at which point it will usually import, and then I right-click on the track and select Get Info to name the track, artist & album. Tedious. (I can NOT highlight all the tracks on an album at once with shift+click; it refuses to work.)
Even weirder: When I try to import Track 09 on 2 albums I've done this with so far, I get an error message: "Track 09.cda could not be imported because it does not appear to be a valid export file." Does iTunes have a problem with "Track 09" in general? There are other questions here about Track 09 resulting in the same problem.
Just got an unexpected iPod (that's why I'm using iTunes 7) or I wouldn't be using iTunes at all... I only accidentally worked out the problem of not being able to connect, and it still will not fetch any song/album info from Gracenote. This is really quite maddening.

Download Itunes from Apple.com, not from within Itunes.
Redo the install, following the below procedure. However, when you re-install Itunes, right click and run the install as administrator. For Win 7, you have to hold down the cntrl and shift keys when you right click and then "run as administrator" will be an option.
Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (Vista, Win 7 & later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
iTunes
Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall move on to the next item)
Bonjour
Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.
Please note:
Some users may need to follow all the steps in whichever of the following support documents applies to their system. These include some additional manual file and folder deletions not mentioned above.

If the above doesn’t do the trick entirely, then use the instructions in the following as it applies to the version of Windows you are using:
HT1925: Removing and Reinstalling iTunes for Windows XP
HT1923: Removing and reinstalling iTunes for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
You may be required to boot into safe mode to complete the folder deletion process.

Close your iTunes,
Go to command Prompt -
(Win 7/Vista) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES, right mouse click "Command Prompt", choose "Run as Administrator".
(Win XP SP2 & above) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES/Command Prompt
In the "Command Prompt" screen, type in
netsh winsock reset
Hit "ENTER" key
Restart your computer.
If you do get a prompt after restart windows to remap LSP, just click NO.
Now launch your iTunes, Sync and see if it is working now.
If you are still having these type of problems after trying the winsock reset, refer to this article to identify which software in your system is inserting LSP:

Yes, provided all the media is inside the iTunes Media folder, which is in turn inside the main iTunes folder (which is the standard arrangement) you should be able to move the iTunes folder from <User's Music> to any other path and shift-start-Tunes (option-start-iTunes on a Mac) to reconnect to it.
If the media folder has split out to another drive in the past, or media is stored outside of the iTunes Media folder, then things get a bit more complicated. I can go into details should it be necessary.

I think I remember hearing that if you quit iTunes with your device still connected, then open iTunes up again, it should work.

Problem solved. Copied latest file of iTunes Library.itl from Previous iTunes Libraries and replaced it with the original in Music - iTunes-folder.

Any one or a combo may help.
Give your devices a reset. Hold down the sleep and home keys for about 20 seconds. When you see the silver apple, let go and let it reboot. Then try again.
Try a different USB port
Try a different cable
Is your iTUnes up to date? If not, update it.
If that doesn't work, (if you're on a PC) go into the control panel, add/remove programs and uninstall iTunes, Apple mobile device service, apple application support. THen redownload and reinstall iTunes and give it another try.
