hi Tracie!
gaah. okay, we're going to use the following technique as a diagnostic tool:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302538
when you're in MSCONFIG, do you find strange randow-looking item names (typical 4 or 6 letters long) that don't turn up any hits when you try to google on them? if you do, it's the sign of a malware infection. keep us posted.

  • Just reinstalled newest iTunes and still the program fails to open.  Am using Windows 7 starter.  It seems that the failure to open iTunes happened just after I updated to the latest flash player.  Don't know if that has anything to do with it.

iTunes will not open.  I am using Windows 7, and have had no trouble with iTunes until yesterday.  The only think I did yesterday was install an upgrade to the latest Flash player.  From then on, even after deleting and reinstalling iTunes, it still does NOTHING after the screen authorizing iTunes to make changes to the hard drive.  I have tried going to the applications and ending process.  I've also tried going to Control panel - and tried to repair the program.
If I don't get some help here... iTunes is toast to me.
    Thanks,
    GaryFromSeffner

From then on, even after deleting and reinstalling iTunes, it still does NOTHING after the screen authorizing iTunes to make changes to the hard drive.
... Could you please post a screen shot of that screen for us, Gary? (You can use the wee camera icon at the top of your Reply window to insert an image file into a post.)

  • ITunes 7.0.2 installs but now iTunes won't open

I hadn't upgraded to 7.0.2 after hearing all the problems it had, but now I have a new nano and I need to upgrade. I tried and iTunes wouldn't open at all. I uninstalled and then reinstalled and still no luck. I've browsed around on here to look for advice but no one seems to have had their questions answered.
    Help?

Quicktime opens with no problem but when I try and open saved videos I only get audio and a green static-y screen.
    interesting.
iTunes uses QuickTime for video and audio playback. if there's a problem with QuickTime, a common symptom is that itunes won't launch (although folks tend to get an error message under those circumstances).
so, let's see if the itunes launch failure is an unusual side effect of the cause of those QuickTime symptoms.
so even though you can't open your itunes, try running through the techniques from the following document:
Troubleshooting iTunes for Windows video playback perfomance issues
if you can get QuickTime to play videos properly after applying one or more of those techniques, try launching itunes again. does she launch properly under those circumstances?

  • ITune will not open!

iTunes would not open, so I followed the information on this board and uninstalled iTunes, Quicktime, Apple Software updates, Apple mobile Device Support, Bonjour, Apple Applications support and all folders, then reinstalled iTunes. It's seems to be properly installed but when I try to open it, nothing happens. Any help would be appreciated.

Some questions in the interest of narrowing in on possible culprits with an error-message-free iTunes launch failure.
    (1) Does your QuickTime Player launch, or do you get an error message of some kind when you try to launch that?
    (2) If your QuickTime seems to be launching fine, try (by way of experiment) disabling the BonJour Service.
In your Start Menu, right-click Computer and select "Manage".
    Expand "Services & Applications".
Open "Services". (Maximise the window to better see what's going on.)
Right-click the BonJour Service and select "Properties". In the "General" tab, set Start-up type to "Disabled".
Restart the PC, and try launching iTunes again. Does it launch this time?
If iTunes launches with the BonJour Service disabled, by any chance do you have a recent version of IOBit's Advanced SystemCare utility currently installed on the PC? If so, try uninstalling and reinstalling Advanced SystemCare. Can you launch iTunes without having to disable the BonJour Service now?

  • ITunes will not open/user agreement flashes

Hi ... my name is Jen. My husband bought me the iPod Video 30GB for Christmas. Last night at 9pm I put the cd that came with the iPod into my computer to install iPod/iTunes/QuickTime. After I installed it, iTunes would not open. So, I found this website ... found a similar topic ... I uninstalled iTunes, etc ... I downloaded and ran 4 programs that were suggested in the other topic ... Ad-Aware, Spybot, ewido and AVG Free ... I ran all 4 of them (which took 5 hours total) ... they all found lots of crap to get rid of ... which I did. Anyway, I installed iPod/iTunes again this morning ... and the same thing is happening ... I double click iTunes ... the user agreement flashed very briefly and then ... nothing! I am so frustrated!
I have also tried to right click iTunes and clicked Run As ... and selected "The following user" ... but everytime I try that ... this message comes up:
    Unable to log on:
    Logon failure:
unknown user name or bad password ...
Any help would be so, so (insert 100 more so's) appreciated.
    Thank you, Jen

Apple customer service *****. I've called them 2 times, because I have the same problem as everyone else here. I waited 25 minutes before I even got to talk to someone, and they couldn't even fix my problem. I told the guy I had re-installed iTunes like 50 times, but he made me do it again anyway. The best part is after he totally proved he was an idiot, he convinced me he was going to send me an e-mail that would walk me through how to fix it. This happened twice and neither of the technicians sent me an e-mail. I even told one guy twice what my e-mail is. For everyone out there that has the same problem as I do, I feel your frustration. Apple has got to respond to this issue because no one seems to know how to fix it. If anyone has any information please e-mail me at [email protected], or post it here. Also, if you were curious I have Service Pack 2 for windows and all of my firewalls are up-to-date.

Thanks Limnos, but unfortunately the same error still remains.
The disk was OK.  Permissions had errors along the lines of groups should be 0, is 80.  I repaired that.  Tried again to open, then reinstalled (new download again), but again the same problem.
I checked permissions again and some of the 0-80 errors came again, but no clear reason from there I think
Was also a SUID warning on ARDAgent but I see online that doesn't appear to be something abnormal.
I tried reloading Lion but the installation came back with software appears to have been tampered with (I think the dmg file is gone as I couldn't find it).  I then went to email to report a problem so I could download again but of course that whole process doesn't work because itunes wont open.
    So Stuck

  • TS1398 my ipad is connected to my wi-fi but the app store and itunes store never  open, the internet nev    er works and it is always  loading. i dont understand as it is a brand new ipad.

my ipad is connected to my wifi but the app store and itunes store never open, the internet never works and it is always loading but never working. I dont understand why as my computer works for my wifi and my brand new ipad should too.

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

  • What is going on - my itunes will not open?

All of a sudden, my Itunes will not open? Have uninstalled, reinstalled, etc. no difference...

SO you get no error message when you try to launch iTunes, Just a brief flash of the hour glass then nothing?
After trying to launch iTune, go to the task manager and look to see if you can see iTunes.exe running on the processes tab.
If so, here is a troubleshooting method for this particular type of launch failure. This is a diagnostic process aimed at finding the cause of the problem. You will need to post pack with information about what happened when you tried the various steps. Once the cause of the problem is identified, we can look for a solution.
    ===
Troubleshooting silent launch failure in Windows XP
Before checking if iTunes works, restart your PC or close the iTunes.exe process with task manager if it is running.
A couple of simple things to try:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1776?viewlocale=en_US
Stop the bonjour service, this FAQ has instructions:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2250?viewlocale=en_US
But usually it is due to a problem with cryptographic services.
Check to see if you have your smart card service and that it is not set to disabled. For some reason iTunes needs it.
    Start>>Run>>Services.msc
you should find the smart card service in the list. Report back with your findings.
Malware can interfere with cryptographic services and also prevent a resolution so it is important to check that your system is clean before proceeding: Run a virus and spyware scan with up to date definitions.
Then work through *Method 4* in the following link:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/822798
You should be able to copy and paste the individual lines to save on typing.
Make a careful note of any error messages you get, they are important for diagnosis. Report back any error messages especially the names of any dlls mentioned.
If there are no errors try starting iTunes.

  • ITunes is not openning

I have looked through the forum here for answers and to see what info you need to know to help. I still couldn't get it to work, so here's everything I know:
---When I try to open iTunes by: clicking my desktop shortcut, trying to run it from the Start taskbar menu, and by finding something online that would cause iTunes to open up and load the store, it doesn't open. Those are the only ways I know to open it.
---I have Windows 7 and I updated iTunes fairly recently so I believe I have the most current one.
---Bonjour or the similarly named service that you have told others to disable has been disabled.
---When I try to open iTunes, my cursor changes to the "loading" cursor as it should but only for a very brief time.
---When I try to open iTunes, Windows Task Manager doesn't even acknowledge iTunes trying to open, though iTunes doesn't try to open for very long, so it might be possible WTM doesn't refresh that fast.
    Please help!

If restarting your PC does not clear the problem, there are a few other things to check.
You do not have the type of launch failure that could be caused Bonjour because iTunes.exe does not appear on the processes tab (could you confirm this rather than just the application tab)
The ones where iTunes doesn't open at all with no error message can be tricky. You should check your system for malware.
Malwarebytes is a good free scanner and there is also a helpful support forum if anything is found:
    http://www.malwarebytes.org/
Sometimes silent launch failure can be caused by permission problems in Program files and sub folders. It might be worth looking to see if the permissions look reasonable. Don't attempt to change anything, just look.
Here is a link to a thread where this comes up:
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=10613572#10613572
Look at the green star post.
Do you have any other issues on your PC?
Does Quicktime launch and work OK? iTunes can't work without it.

I am running version 10.7.0.21 - since upgrade itunes will not open.  I have visited the support site and done many things to get this working - taken hours of my time I do not have, including setting up a new user and same result.
My PC is running Windows 7.  I need my itunes as I have 4 ipods and 3 iphones - I need to back up a phone as I have just upgraded,
One error I seem to have caught is as follows:
    Problem Event Name     BEX

  • ITunes won't open, and doesn't give any error message

Whenever I try to open iTunes (7.0.2, if that matters), my system tray shows a little yellow triangle with an exclamation point, and iTunes fails to open. The icon shows no message when I hover over it, and if I click on it, it vanishes. I deleted iTunes, reinstalled it, restarted my computer, and all that jazz, but the problem remains absolutely unchanged. I tried creating another user account and opening iTunes on that account, and it works, but obviously, abandoning my current account is not an ideal solution. I don't have the first clue what's going on, or why, or what the yellow triangle icon is. I need help!
      Windows XP

Are you having the same problem with Quick Time? I was having the same problem with both Itunes and Quick Time, and I removed and reinstalled, and it was still happening, until I notices that I had an older version of Quick Time still in the program files. After I removed the older version of Quick Time, and then reinstalled Itunes, the problem disappeared.

  • ITunes won't open and a Windows error message pops up

I downloaded iTunes 10.2.2.12 awhile ago.  It worked fine the first time.  Ever since then, whenever I plug in my ipod, my laptop recognizes and says it's syncing but iTunes won't open.  I double click on iTunes and I get an error message from Windows saying that an error has occurred and it needs to close iTunes but it never even opens up.  (The message doesn't give any error codes.)  I've tried completely uninstalling iTunes and all its components and then reinstalling it but I get the same error message.  I have Windows XP 2002 Home Edition SP 3.  Please help.  Thanks.

    Many thanks.
Yes, it is an "iTunes has encountered a problem" error.  The ModName: dnssd. dll        The ModVer: 2.0.5.0     Offset: 0000246c
With that one, by way of experiment, let's try disabling your Bonjour Service.
In your Start menu, right-click My Computer and select "Manage".
    Expand "Services & Applications".
Open "Services". (Perhaps maximise the screen to better see what's going on.)
Right-click the Bonjour Service and select "Properties".
In the General tab, set the Startup type to "Disabled":
    ... and click OK.
Restart the PC and try launching iTunes again. Does it launch properly this time?

my itunes will not open at all. it occasionally will open but when i plug my iphone into it the program freezes and crashes. please help as soon as possible

i think i might have a solution... i have windows vista and after i installed to latest itunes update everytime i tried to open it it would freeze. I tried everything, including uninstalling itunes and all of its components and reinstalled it numerous times. So i went to the itunes folder in my folders, not on itunes, and i deleted my itunes library and playlists. After that it worked just fine, all of my music was deleted but luckily i had my files saved elsewhere.
I hope this helped! I know its frustrating and APPLE/ITUNES NEED TO FIX THE PROBLEM!!!!
