***********Itunes= Fatal error!!!*************
i recently bought a Aspire 5515 (WOOPS!) which apparently are total garbage and im unable to install most things like virus scans, but that is beside the point. Itunes is the most frustrating for me because i just bought an iphone. What occurs is when i try to install itunes i get an error which says " There is an error with this windows installer package. A program required for this install could not be run. Contact your support personal or package vendor". It happened after i upgraded from itunes 7 or 8, which ever one, and went to a higher more advanced itunes, which is 9.0. After this message it rolls back and then it continues to attempt to install quick time ( which does not either...). After pointlessly installing Itunes i open and it gets a fatal error when it attempts to configure itunes or do something with it on its first opening.
Please help me with this because praying just doesn't seem to work and i really would hate for my laptop to go through a wall...

With that one, I'd start with polydorus's suggestions from the following post:

Yesterday my iTunes (7.3.1) was working with no problems then the iTunes + Quicktime upgrade came up telling me to download the newer version but I didnt want to download it yet untill after i restarted my computer so I exited out of both the upgrade screen and iTunes then restarted the computer and when I tried to open up iTunes (after restarting), a little window came up saying:
+*Preparing to install...*+
Then after a minute or two it said: *+Please wait while Windows configures iTunes+*
Then another window pops up saying:
*+Error writing to file: C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunesMiniPlayer.Resources\fi.lproj\iTunesMiniPlayerLocalized.dll. +*
*+Verify that you have access to that directory.+*
and I have no idea what that means so i closed it then a pop up shows saying: *+Fatal Error During Installation.+*
so i deleted iTunes, Quicktime, iPod and everything i could (that my computer would let me) that had to do with Apple and restarted my computer then tried to download iTunes again but now when its reisntalling it says
*+Error writing to file:+* +*C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\bin\disnoted.exe.*+
+*Verify that you have access to that directory.*+
Then after this i went to the folder
+*C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\bin\disnoted.exe.*+
and made sure that Read Only wasn't checked but everytime i go to uncheck it and click Apply and OK it doesnt stay it just goes right back to being checked...because when u click OK the window goes away so i immediately opened it back up to see if changed but it was filled again

ITunes Fatal Error Installation
Hello, recently a notification for iTunes updated popped up & i run it. However, halfway through the update hang & when i tried to open itunes they told me to reinstall.
I tried to reinstall but a box came out saying there is something wrong with the windows installer package & i have to contact the vendor. iTunes then proceeded to install as per normal & it even says that iTunes was installed successfully.
However, when i double click on the shortcut icon, a dialog box stating that windows is configuring itunes came out. that took a few minutes and then it states that "Fatal Error during Installation".
Can somebody help me? I used ccleaner to clean out any temp files & completely uninstall itunes & quicktime before installing it again, i also ran windows update & tried restory point but it all fail.
thank you.Same issue for me - been trying to solve it for over a month and put many hours of experimentation and research in. So far this is what I think I've found out.
When windows installs iTunes it fails to install/reinstall the Apple Software Update component of the software. When it's being installed it stops and puts up an error about a faulty Windows Installer - and then afterwards you can check if this is true by going into installed programs and when I look its not there.
Then when I click on the iTunes logo to configure and open up the software it says "fatal error during installation." This is because a component of the installation is missing.
I hope someone knows what to do.
If anyone knows how to install this so that the whole -

Microsoft Windows XP
Professional Version 2002
Service Pack 2Try first going through this article to remove iTunes and Quicktime completely (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93698).
After you remove everything, don't re-install yet. Download the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301). After insalling that, remove any references of iTunes, Apple, or Quicktime in the list.
Try re-installing now. -
Itunes fatal error when upgrading to 7.7
this happened after the itunes installed but before the qt install. i figured it was something to do with apple software update since it is now screwed up and will not run from the program menu nor can i uninstall it from add remove programs. i rebooted and tried to reinstall itunes, got exactly the same error but itunes is up and running. apple software update is now hosed and i can't seem to find a palce on the apple website where i can download a version of it by itself.
i figured it was something to do with apple software update since it is now screwed up and will not run from the program menu nor can i uninstall it from add remove programs.
Download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility:
Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility
Now run the utility (“Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up”), select any *Apple Software Update* entries in the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, and then click “Remove”.
Quit out of CleanUp, and then restart the PC.
Now uninstall and reinstall iTunes. (This should reinstall Apple Software Update.)
Does that install go through properly? If so, is your ASU back and running properly? -
Fatal error message when installing itunes
I am using windows vista and itunes has been working fine for a year and a half now, but last month I downloaded and installed the latest update and every time I tried to open it the message 'fatal error occured during installation' appeared. I was able to uninstall, then re-install itunes yet the same thing occurs. Any ideas?
Just follow the steps here to fix that:

Itunes (&Quicktime) "Fatal Error" -HELP
Having serious problems out of nowhere using I-Tunes. Dont use it everyday and not sure of when started. Seems that Quicktime folder in program files will not allow ADMIN to delete. Tried to set permissions to all program files, but this file would not allow it. This file stays after deleting Quicktime from control panel and with Window Install clean up. Same error seen after older version installs as I was able to go C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Apple Computer\Installer Cache\QuickTime7x\QuickTime msi, double click on QuickTime msi and click repar or install Quicktime install cache and install these older versions - but get same error. Fatal Error after install goes through and I click on the ICON to use.
Dont have any errors during the actual install or when uninstalling, just doesnt seem to go through after it finishes up.
I believge the first error (and still comes up) is a Application Error from eventvwr.msc logs states:
Detection of product '{5D601655-6D54-4384-B52C-17EC5385FBBD}', feature 'iTunes', component '{E8A1D3E2-F5D3-4B24-AB93-52F7E602A235}' failed. The resource 'C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunes.exe' does not exist.
Also did the following at http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1926
Completely remove iTunes and QuickTime
Empty your Temp directory and restart
Clean up iTunes installer files on the computer
Download QuickTime Standalone Installer
Disable other conflicting software
Make sure your folder names don't contain strange characters
Still cant use ITUNES!!!Absolutely nothing happens when I try to uninstall QuickTime. It goes through the uninstall process, but then it just stops. No error messages or anything.
I've been using the Windows "Uninstall a Program" feature because I haven't been able to start QuickTime. -
I need to un install itunes on my PC. I have windows XP. when I go into my control panel and select to un install it goes through the proper steps then gives me a fatal error message and therefore cannot remove it. Any suggestions?
An error occurred while attempting to create the directory c:\Program Data\Apple\Installer Cache"
That sounds like a permissions problem. Vista uses that Trusted Installer account to install software. I don't know why it wouldn't have the correct permissions, though.
Make sure you have FULL control over all the C: drive, and try turning off UAC during the install:

i have had itunes downloaded on my computer before but the computer had to be repaired becuase it had viruses and now i cant reinstall itunes. whenever i try to install it again something pops up that says a fatal error has occured or something like that. does anyone know how this can be fixed?
the older version of bonjour could not be removed
Let's see if we can make some progress with that one first.
(1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
(2) Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (If you're on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 system and you get a Code 800A0046 error message when doubleclicking the msicuu2.exe file, try instead right-clicking on the msicuu2.exe file and selecting "Run as administrator".)
(3) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.
(4) In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any Bonjour entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
(5) Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time? -
Itunes 7.6 installation Fatal Error during installation
I successfully installed Itunes into my account - as the administrator. However, my other computer users users can't install the new version. The get a window that pops up: Problem with shortcut, fatal error during installation. I have tried removing and re-installing, I even followed all the steps in the trouble article #93976. I also deleted the user, created a new on, made that user an adminstrator and still can't install. HELP!
I found on another post that concerns this same topic that someone has responded with the following solution:
I ran into the same problem, but I think I have the solution. First, the problem isn't with iTunes, its an access problem with Windows XP. I tried to run the iTunes program from the Program Files, and I received an "Access Denied" error.
If you try to open the Program Files in My Computer\Local Disk(C:) and receive an "Access Denied" Error, that is why you are receiving a "shortcut problem/Fatal Error during installation".
Here is how I corrected it:
1) Shut down the computer and restart it in "safe mode". I had to look up how to do this, but I pressed F8 when it was restarting and I highlighted the "safe mode" and started the machine. The icons will be large, but ignore it.
2) Open a user that has administrative access -- I used the one user that has access to itunes.
3) Go to My Computer\Local Disk (C:) and right click on the "Program Files" folder. Select "properties" at the bottom.
4) Go to the Security Tab
5) At the top you should see one or two users that have access to the Programs File. One will be the user that itunes works on. Click Add, then click Advanced, then click Find Now.
6) At the bottom should appear a list of users. Select a user on which itunes doesn't work. Click Ok, then click OK again.
7) Give that user full access to the Program File by putting a check mark in the Full Access box.
8) Repeat for the remaining users.
9) Restart computer in normal mode.
10) Go into a user that had problems and click the itunes icon, and it should run.
It worked for me, I hope it works for you.
I have not tried it yet, but when I have the time to sit and actually do it, and if it works, I will definitely let you guys know! -

cant uninstall quick time gives fatal error, stems from same error when I try to open Itunes.Checking on a possible cause of similar symptoms. Have you ever install an ACE or K-Lite Mega Codec pack, a copy of QT Alternative or QT Lite, or a copy of Storm Codec on that PC?
(Checking on this because those programs, and some others, can install "QuickTime" componentry on the PC that can break a copy of the QuickTime on the PC, and as a consequence break iTunes. The "fatal error" when attempting to uninstall QuickTime is often a symptom of that, too.) -

Hi LeAnn,
There have been several posts tonight with this issue. I would suggest waiting until tomorrow and then try again. There may be an issue with the server you are connecting to.
