ITunes Feature Requests....

I tried finding a place to request these features, but all I could find was a place to request SONGS for iTunes. So I'll post them here and hope that they are read by someone who can implement them.
· iPod is only automatically updated when it’s first connected to the computer. If it remains connected, I’d like to see it updated every X amount of minutes. This way you can leave it connected overnight, and know it is synced with iTunes in the morning.
· HTTP Authentication for podcasts that require passwords pops up every time iTunes is reopened. There should be a way to store that password so that the dialog box asking for a password is NEVER seen. What good is a podcast if I have to enter a username and password and then hit ok? I might as well have gone to a website and downloaded the MP3 manually.
· iTunes allows you to globally adjust settings for all podcasts for the number of episodes of each to keep. The problem is, there are some podcasts I’d like to keep more episodes of than others. iTunes needs individual settings, PER PODCAST, that allow you to keep 5 episodes of X podcast, 3 of Y, and all episodes of Z podcast.
· iTunes stops updating podcasts if you haven’t listened to them for a while. Why? If I don’t want a podcast updated, I’ll tell you thank you. This “feature” needs to go, or at least needs to be optional.
· When you try to close iTunes you should be warned that podcasts will not be updated if you close iTunes and asked if you’d rather have iTunes minimized to the system tray.

  • ITunes Feature Request: Shared Library Enhancements

I didn't see a section of the forum specific to feature requests so I'll just post here and see what kind of feedback pops up.
I use iTunes to manage the music library for my home network, then share the library to each system on the network. The only gripe I have is that I can not make my local systems load the artwork from music in the shared library. I am also a bit dissapointed that the "jukebox" view doesn't work for shared libraries, and that you can't make a playlist containing songs on a shared library.
I'm assuming these features were left out to conserve network bandwidth, which makes sense, however I think it should be an optional feature that that can be enabled for people with the hardware to support it. If you're running a gigabit home network then there is certainly enough bandwidth to spare to support this.
I'm a windows user and will always be, however I'm very impressed with iTunes and how efficiently it operates and handles tagging and other features. I just think that the shared library capabilities should be expanded. It'd even be nice if you could grant permission to a specific computer name or IP range giving systems permission to edit the library. Remote Desktop/VNC solutions work well for this, but it'd be nice to have an internal feature to support it.

  • ITunes Feature Request

I can't seem to find whether there is a official Apple web form to submit feedback/feature requests for iTunes. Does anyone know the URL for this?
Also, here is my feature request...
In order to access shared iTunes libraries over the LAN, the sharer must have iTunes open for me to access their content. I have a strong desire for Apple to enable this type of sharing to occur without the sharer needing to open iTunes. For instance, if I'm sitting on my couch with my laptop and I want to play music streamed from my shared iTunes library on my desktop in my home office, I would like to do this regardless of whether the desktop has iTunes open or not. This is also a huge issue with streaming content to the Apple TV. The Apple TV can only access shared libraries if the sharer has iTunes open and running.
Does anyone know of third party software that accomplishes continuous sharing/broadcasting of your iTunes library over the LAN? I've never heard of such a thing and would like to suggest it to Apple. In the Windows world, I'm envisioning something running in the taskbar. I don't really know about the Mac OS X world, but I do know that directories are shared in Finder between Macs regardless of whether or not something is "open". It should be just as simple to ALWAYS be able to access shared iTunes libraries.
Lastly, just out of curiosity, I'd be interested to hear if anyone feels like there would be significant technical hurdles that would make this very hard to achieve.
    Thanks,
    Aaron

  • FEATURE REQUEST: Sticky editing of feed info

I love iTunes 6 on Windows as pod-catching software. It's great. But a minor feature request.... (since I don't see anywhere else on Apple.Com for iTunes feature requests, I'm posting it here).
Most podcast authors seem to do a lousy job of creating intuitive feed metadata information (Artist, Description). And since podcasts seem to be sorted by default on my iPod by Music > Podcasts > [ARTIST FIELD], I always edit the Artist Field in iTunes before I sync with my iPod. I do this by selecting all items in a feed group, right clicking, choosing Get Info, and editing the Artist field to something short which makes sense to me.
However, this edit isn't sticky. When new items in a feed are downloaded to iTunes, they have the original Artist field. So I have to edit this a lot.
What I'd like is to be able to edit the Info of the feed once in iTunes. Then, every time a new item is downloaded to that feed in iTunes, I'd like iTunes to go ahead and edit that item's info to match my sticky feed setting. This way, I only need to edit the info once when I add a new feed, and each item subsequently downloaded will inherit those settings.
Make sense? A "power user" feauture, I'm sure. But it'd be nice....
Dell Dimension Windows XP iTunes 6, 20GB iPod
    Dell Dimension   Windows XP

Can't be done currently. Interesting idea, though.
However, I've found that podcast creators tend to be pretty responsive to criticisms along these lines. I've had this same problem with some podcasts, and after I mentioned it to them, they started tagging their podcasts appropriately. Some of them even started adding "album art" after I explained how it would show up on newer iPod's when playing the track, if the iPod user uses iTunes.
I'd email the podcast author and let them know what's up. This is generally a better long term solution anyway, as it helps everybody.

  • Feature Request:  iTunes to merge the "Song Name" & "Artist" fields

This is a feature request that i would like to see in a future release of iTunes. The option to merge the "Song Name" & "Artist" fields together. This would be a very valuable option when surfing your iTunes Library thru your iPod, Front Row, or Apple TV.
    Let me explain:
Not everyone knows at the top of their head who sings a particular song. This is especially true when someone other than the owner of the iTunes Library is browsing through it.
Let's say that I want to browse my ENTIRE music collection all at once. The easiest way to do this, is by browsing thru the "Songs" list because it creates 1 massive list displaying ALL the songs in the library, without having to jump into different fields. The current problem with this, is, it only lists the name of the song. There are 2 problems with this philosophy. #1 - You must know who sings the songs to have any chance of making this a useful option because the artist is not displayed. #2 - It puts them in alphabetical based on the song name. Once again, not a very useful way to make this option really functional because you will have the Artists all over the map! Keeping the Artist's songs together makes it a much more feasable option.
The solution, I feel, would be to have iTunes create an "Option" that would allow users like me to make iTunes merge the "Artist" & "Name" fields together. Make it an option so that users who do not see the benefit to this, would not have to use it. By doing this, I could now surf my ENTIRE collection via the "Songs" field in a very logical approach.
For an example, let's take a song: Artist - "Def Leppard" & Song Name - "Pour Some Sugar On Me". By clicking this option, when browsing thru the "Songs" field, it would now display as: Def Leppard - Pour Some Sugar On Me. This allows me to browse my ENTIRE library while at the same time, keeping "like" songs together, and making it very easy to distinguish whether or not it is a song I want to select. By knowing that Def Leppard is a Rock Artist, it helps to distinguish the song.
I work for a custom AV integration shop that has put hundreds of music servers into homes. We have been teaching our clients the benefits of this for some time now, with great feedback. The only problem presently, is it requires the users to have to re-edit every single file by putting the Artist's Name & the Song Title into the "Name" field of iTunes. Very time consuming! As well, because you also have the "Artists" name entered in the "Artist" field, you get Front Row displaying the "Artist" name twice, once in the song name, and once in the artist's field.
    Any feedback would be welcomed.
    Regards,
    Trevor

You might be able to get where you want using Chaotic Software's MediaRage. It can automate and batch tag editing, including building a Title tag that combines Artist and Title and, to possibly address you other problem, blanking the Artist tag.
MediaRage is not expensive and it is very powerful, you can even define regexs for how to parse tags.

  • Feature request for iTunes: Rating from iPod to Library.

I'm not able to send feature requests via the 'Provide iTunes feedback'. So I'm posting here. I use my iPod more often to listen to music than my computer. I don't have time to sit at my machine and rate files. But My commute is an hour so I've got a LOT of time on the train & bus to rate my songs as I listen to them. However when I plug in my iPod to update it, etc. the ratings on my iPod stay there and my songs in my library stay unrated.
I'd like for there to be an option for this. To be able to transfer song ratings from my iPod to my iTunes library.
    Many thanks for the music.

Please teach me how to use this feature because it doesn't work for me. Even after restoring my iPod. Please note, I'm using an iPod Nano and I manually control my library & iPod. There is no syncing of playlists nor libraries.

  • Feature Request: iTunes support CD drive letters A&B

Not sure how to submit this feature request to Apple for iTunes for Windows enhancement so I figured I would start at the forum.
I know in the "dark ages" drive letters A&B where pretty much reserved for floppy drives. Not sure how many computers are actually still in use running Windows XP and up that still have one of those drives.
Therefore, for some time now these two drive letters have gone unused. C: in general was the first HD letter, and CD-Roms (or now DVD/Blu-Ray) drives started somewhere with D: and above depending on your computer configuration.
I changed my setup a while ago and named my two DVD drives A & B since Windows supports it just fine, as do a lot of other programs, with the exception of iTunes :-(. For some reason, iTunes will not support reading CDs from drives A or B, even if Windows autorun feature is enabled asking if it should import the CD into iTunes. Apple, what's up with that? Why actual restrict reading music from CD drives assigned letters A & B? Is this an old piece of code still lingering around in iTunes?
So, simple feature request for an upcoming iTunes release, please enable reading/important CD music from drives labeled A&B so that we can start using these letters again as well.
Anybody else want to support this simple request that should be fairly easy for Apple to implement?

We're a user-to-user community, so there's no guarantee that an Apple person will see your request. But you can make enhancement requests directly to the Apple folks if you like. Here's a link to the iTunes product feedback form:

  • Feature Request - Import ITunes m4p into Track

Would like a feature that allowed moving an entire ITunes song into a GB track.
    933 MHz PowerPC G4   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

That's not likely to be a feature you'll ever see B-(>

  • Feature request: Better handling of accents

    Hi everyone,
Since the "Provide iTunes feedback" menu item in iTunes itself only allows you to request music from the iTMS, I'm going to post my feature request for iTunes here, and hope that Apple picks up on it.
For most of the English-speaking world, accented characters (e.g.: é, à, â, ö, etc...) are never used, but for someone like me who speaks French or someone who has international music, it's an important part of using your computer.
So, here are two suggestions on how iTunes could handle accented characters more gracefully:
    1. Don't be so aggressive in the auto-complete behaviour! iTunes will routinely disregard capitalisation and accents in order to "fuzzy-match" the auto-complete.
For instance, suppose I have an artist in my library named "Stephanie McKay", and I want to add another artist named "Stéphane Pompougnac". Here is how the auto-complete would look at six different stages (iTunes' suggestions are in square brakets):
    1. St[ephanie McKay]
    2. Ste[phanie McKay] iTunes replaces the é I just typed with a normal, unaccented e
    3. Stephan[ie McKay]
    4. Stephane iTunes doesn't have any suggestions to make at this point
    5. Stephane Pompougnac I've typed in the complete name, and now I have to return to put the accent on the first e
    6. Stéphane Pompougnac
In this case, the 'é' should've stuck as of step 2 and iTunes should've not had any suggestions to make since nothing else in my library starts with 'Sté'.
    2. As far as searches go, the same is partially true, but with one caveat. If I'm searching for "Stéph", I should only get one result back, "Stéphane Pompougnac".
On the other hand, if I'm searching for "Steph", I think there's a possibility that I was too lazy to type the accent or I didn't know if/where there was an accent, and so I should get both results back: "Stéphane Pompougnac" and "Stephanie McKay".
The same is true of other accented characters (é, à, ö, ô, and even ç). I don't know how languages other than French and Spanish deal with characters that look alike (e.g. ø and o) or that represent the same thing, but if there is a relationship, I suppose the same behaviour should apply there.
    Cheers,
    - tonyboy

    Hi Brad,
Thanks a lot for pointing this out. We have verified this. We are looking into this issue and would try to incorporate the fix in future releases.

  • "Could not complete the iTunes store request..."

I'm having the same TYPE of issues everyone else seems to be having, but with this message:
"Could not complete the iTunes store request. The store may be busy. Check your internet connection or try again later"
    and it ONLY occurs at:
    1) iTunes HOME page
    2) Browsing Music Videos
all other iTunes pages work. What is going on? I thought Apple beat Microsoft when it came to usability, but this really stinks! I've run diagnostics and iTunes has NO problem seeing that I have a working internet connection!
Anyone else have this exact problem and have suggestions?

I am getting this excact same error message, except for me no page will load except for the Account Settings page. I've tried nearly everything short of reformatting, I have the latest version of iTunes, I used the Repair Disk Permissions tool, verified my KeyChain, checked my firewalls.
However, I have found a detour around this problem. If you use the Browse feature (the little eye icon next to the Eject botton) when the iTunes tab is open, you can find artists, however, the Popularity ratings don't seem to work

  • How do you make an itunes feature suggestion to Apple?

I'm trying to find a place to make an itunes feature suuggestion to Apple, but all I seem to be able to find is a "request music" link...
If this is the only place, then here is my suggestion...
I am a video editor and I use itunes to play my music, but also to audition sound effects and production music tracks. But when I do a shuffle play of my entire library, I don't really want to hear these sfx and songs (or the audiobooks I've taken from an audiobook CDs).
Therefore, I think it would be useful if there was some kind of "flag" that said "this is not a song" or "don't include in shuffle".
Alternatively, what would be great for me, is if itunes could have multiple libraries, then I could have a normal music library, a sfx and production music library and an audiobook library.
Anyway, I guess I can dream.
    Chris.

The iTunes feedback is confusing indeed. I use the general Feedback page to report bugs and to do suggestions.
They assure that the messages will be read, but you won't get a reply.
As this is a user-to-user forum, it is highly unlikely your suggestions will be read by Apple employees (except moderators).
You can exclude songs from shuffling by checking 'Skip when Shuffling' in the 'Options' tab of the Info window (Get Info of a song; shortcut: command-I)
Unfortunately, you can only do this song by song.
Using this script, you can enable/disable 'Skip when Shuffling' of all selected songs.
You could put the songs/sfx in a playlist, select them all (command-A) and run the script.
To run multiple libraries, you can choose between these two applications:
    iTunes Library Manager and Libra.
Although not real instant switchable libraries, both apps. can create multiple 'iTunes Library' files, which enables you to have separate libraries for all kinds of files.
    Hope this helps.

  • NMT - Thoughts, Feature Requests & a Question - No...

After using Nokia Multimedia Transfer for over a day now with my N97 I am very happy with the software, it's a very good piece of software that looks at home on a Mac. I initially had problems with my mp3 collection not having embedded album artwork (this is the fault of iTunes not NMT) but have solved this by converting my mp3 collection to AAC (iTunes plus) and now have embedded album art.
The image transfer works but it just dumps all of the transferred images into an iPhoto structure that is not visible by the phone and as a result all of the images appear in the download folder of the image browser. This is not very practical when you have a lot of photos and it would be nice if NMT could duplicate the organisation of images in iPhoto (ie events, albums and folders). After all, you spend a lot of time organising your images in iPhoto and don't want to have manually repeat the process on your phone.
In another post I found a link to NMT feature requests that had been posted by a Nokia employee but I'm unable to find this link again. Does anybody have the link? If so could you post it to this topic?
The features I would like in NMT are:
The ability to duplicate the organisational structure in iPhoto (ie events, albums and folders)
Transfer of keywords/tags from iPhoto to the phone
Nokia, Great work on Nokia Multimedia Transfer!
Keep it coming for us Mac users (including an iSync plugin for the N97)
    Nokia N97 (RM-507) v 22
    iPhone 4 (Coming Soon) - Lemon N97 - SE - Nokia 8210 - Nokia 7710 - Nokia 5100

I am very agree with the most you talk.
But since the last update, the synchronization with iPhoto loose all the improvements done before with my N95.
    1) The Delete after transfer do not work.
    2) Photos deleted from the selected album in iPhoto, are not in the phone.
    3) The phone never again is identified as a camera. And imports the files as a folder.
    Any suggestion?

  • Feature requests

I'd like to submit some feature requests and complaints I've had with both the desktop and mobile apps.
    1. Larger "add to queue" buttons for mobile- I always end up accidentally playing the track when I try to add it to the queue. This is extremely annoying because it stops the current song, and there is no way to easily go back to it.
    2. Ability to jump to alphabetized artist in "your music" by typing the letters of their name like on iTunes, or some filter/search method. I have lots of artists and songs in that section, and it's incredibly annoying to have to spend so much time scrolling just to get to "z"
    3. Always go back to specific location in scroll when hit "back" button.
    4. Easy ability to remove item from playlist from "current song" screen as it's playing on mobile (and just in general, I couldn't figure out how to remove a song from playlist on mobile)
    5. Ability to make each artist in your music as a small, narrow list element for ease of jumping around (both desktop and mobile)
    6. Side alphabetical thing that you can tap to jump to a letter as in iPod music
    7. Easy explicit versions of tracks. Sometimes a track will even say it's explicit but will be edited to have cuss words removed. This is ridiculous

    Updated: 2015-07-27Hello there!
Thanks for the feedback, as mentioned, unfortunately we can only handle 1 feature request per topic, otherwise it's impossible to manage the received kudos / give the idea a proper status.
If you want to start a general feedback topic, that's great! But please use the respective help forum then. ;)
When you're re-posting those ideas in separate topics, please make sure to use the search function, since a lot of ideas might already be out there in the ideas forum. Thanks again!

  • Where to put feature requests?

    Hi!
Just wanna ask if somebody knows where I can send my feature requests für iTunes. It is simply anoying when told that a file can't be found in the location where the library was told a file is saved. When I wanna see where it iTunes is looking for the file, I only see: "nicht verfügbar" (in English: "not available").
Or is there an other way to see the last known location of the file?

  • We could not complete your iTunes Store request. The iTunes Store is temporarily unavailable. Please try again later.

Please can someone help. I keep on getting this when I try and buy a song or upgrade my iPhone aps. I have got the latest iTunes on my 15" MacBook Pro with OS X 10.8.5 (12F37). Last week I changed my password on //appleid.apple.com I could the access my account in iTunes. I have tried to log on to my account / view my account in itunes / buy a song and tried upgrading my apps, but I can't do anything now. it is frustrating. Please, please, please can someone help. :-)

Unsure if this will help anyone but I had the same problem with the message always coming up when I tried to login: "We could not complete your iTunes Store request. The iTunes Store is temporarily unavailable. Please try again later."
What I couldn't understand was that I could log into iTunes online, but not through the iTunes app, becoming very frustrated I went to drastic measures to get everything working again - although I found this post after I had success.
To add to the issue, my iPhone (4S - iOS7) was visible on iTunes (latest version), but some of my apps had failed to sync (showing grey on my iPhone and being unable to delete them), causing further issues and adding to my frustrations....which attributed to the drastic measures posted below.
(You may want to try following the above posts before following my method)

    "Dear Luke,
Thank you for writing to iTunes Store Customer Support, my name is Indra and I'll be assisting to you with your concern.
I understand that you are unable to login to your iTunes store account and getting message that the iTunes Store is temporarily unavailable. I can imagine you must be eager to access your account and I will do my best to resolve this issue.
Luke, as an advisor for the iTunes Store, I handle issues related to billing, downloading, customer accounts, and the items available on the iTunes Store. Although your question falls outside of my area of specialty, I will be happy to assist you with resolving your issue.
I have verified that the iTunes Store is functioning and accepting connections. The issue could have been temporary, related to your internet connection, your local network, or your computer itself. If you’re still unable to connect, this article outlines some potential solutions:

Firewall, virus-protection, and web-acceleration software can prevent you from connecting to the iTunes Store. You might not be able to connect even if the software appears to be configured to allow full access to the iTunes Store. You can use the MSCONFIG utility to determine if software on your computer is preventing access to the iTunes Store. For detailed instructions, please refer to the following article:

If the articles above don't help you connect to the iTunes Store, I suggest testing to see if this issue occurs while you are signed in to a new user account on your computer. To learn how to create a new user account in your version of Windows, please read the article below for your operating system:

Once you are signed in to this new user account, open iTunes and try to connect to the iTunes Store. If you can connect without error, then you’ve identified that the issue is with the previous user account that you were using. You may want to consider adopting this new account as your user account and transferring your files from the old account to your new one.

But if the above doesn't work for you then you can follow my method...in the end, I perfomed the following actions which did work:
1).  Uninstalled iTunes from my computer (via Control Panel > Programs & Features)
2).  Located the iTunes folder containing media, Previous Libraries etc (normally located under your Music folder) and simply moved it to my desktop. (can't afford to delete)
    3). Downloaded iTunes.
4). Plugged my iPhone into my laptop and moved all contents across to my desktop (photo's).
5). Restored my iPhone erasing ALL data (extreme but desperate measures were required) - you may want to back it up, but I personally didn't have anything that I couldn't afford to loose on it.
6). Set-up my iPhone (set language etc...) including iCloud, but did not plug it into my laptop.
7). Chose the following iPhone settings>
              > iCloud - Contacts turned off
              > Mail, Contacts, Calendars - iCloud Contacts turned off (same end result)
              > iTunes & App Store - made sure I was logged in via Apple ID.
    7). Closed Outlook.
8). Re-installed iTunes, saving it on the C:> default location.
9). Followed the normal iTunes install prompts, setting it up as new. (making sure I had NO apps or music - clean slate)
10). Plugged my iPhone into my laptop, waiting for it to appear as it normally does.
11). Checked for iOS updates and iTunes updates (all good)
12). Checked Sync Contacts with Outlook (opening Outlook at the same time) - Calendars I left to the iCloud
13). APPLY....once sync finally completed (this time SUCCESSFUL) I was able to click iTunes Store and LOG IN.....finally!
I probably didn't have to perform all 13 steps, but that's exactly what I did to get everything working again!
There is probably someone out there who will be able to explain why I couldn't login to iTunes, why many of my apps didn't load onto my iPhone correctly, why everything failed to sync and probably able to shorten the above 13 steps to a quick fix.... but for now, everything is finally working and my 48hrs of frustration has come to an stress free end!
