ITunes Filing System

I have noticed that iTunes on the backend database files albums and songs in a VERY strange fashion. It seems to put a ton of my songs into a folder called COMPLIATIONS or something like that. I have manually gone in and removed these albums from COMPLIATIONS and put them back into a sorting by Artist Name or Albumn title and then relinked them through the iTunes user interface. This has been a painful process. I have also noticed that single song purchases on iTunes are often filed under the album name even if you did not buy the full album. I have again interviened manually to reclassify such cases as a folder under the artists name called MISC. Two questions.....
1.) Have I screwed myself by renaming all of these folders in anyway?
2.) Is there a way to force iTunes to have me tell it where I want the songs filed not only in terms of general location but also by name of the folder within that drive?
Just curious- why does iTunes file so poorly on the backend?
Thank you

You could also blame the Gracenote CDDB database, whichi is where iTunes gets its CD info. If CDDB has it listed as a Compilation, that's how iTunes lists it.
I am with you on being a Compilations hater!
So, I get rid of the Compilations checkbox when I'm importing CDs. That is the easiest way.
If you have iTunes managing your music, you are making it very difficult. Instead of all that moving around and relinking, just select all the tracks for that album, right click and get Info. Make sure Album Artist is filled in, the uncheck the "Part of a Compilation" .
That will make itunes put it in the Artist folder for you, without losing the link to the files.

  • Ipod/Itunes Filing System

    Hi,
Just got a new 30g i-pod and when I'm loading in albums where there's lots of featured artist I'm getting a long list of artists as oppossed to just the main one. For Example: when I put in Outkast's "Idlewild" album instead of just Outkast being list I'm getting them plus the 12 or so other people featured on the album in the artist list on my ipod. As well as being messy, this means, when I go to just Outkast I only get the 9 songs soley attributed to them as oppossed to the 24 songs on the album. Anybody know a way around this oe is this just the nature of the beast?
    Thanks.

i don't know any pro ways around it. you know what I do? I go into the song info "cards" (select a song, control + mouse click, then choose "get info" from the shortcut menu, then "info" in the tabs) and change the artist name to how you want it sorted. once you complete one song, it'll take you to the next song in the list. when i load an LP, i check out the song info cards to be sure it's filing it like i want it. if it's not-- change it. Some of my "dylan and the band" songs were like that-- some were dylan some were the band some were dylan and the band on the artist even though all the songs were on "basement tapes" LP. so I just went in and made them all dylan. Now they all show up when i select dylan or the LP.
There's two categories-- Artist & Album artist, so you have some play with how you want to name things-- itunes uses Artist as a the big default, but if you ever wanted to find some specific players then the album artist field might be nice to add info too--like the add'l artists on the outkast joint who aren't the main guys.
hope this helps. a little time consuming but not bad really.

Click here and follow the instructions. You may need to completely remove and reinstall iTunes and all related components, or run the process multiple times; this won't normally affect its library, but that should be backed up anyway.

  • How to get PDF file that has been transformed into docx into my filing system so I can work on it???

How can I get the PDF file that was transformed into a docx file into my filing system to be able to work on it and translate it as the customer requested?

    THanks for your reply.
Well what happens is I bought the program. It gives you a button to click,
you log in and then a box opens up asking you to select the file, I go into
my filing system (in Windows explorer) select the file, and the program
converts it into docx, my choice.  I can read it there and when I try to
copy and paste it into my file where the PDF version is saved, it behaves
like an "image", and I can't save it.... or it saves likes something you
save on the internet, so you have to go into internet every time you want
to see it.    I have also pressed any amount of buttons to see if it will
give me the option to save it any other way, and have found nothing.  What
I would need is a file in docx.format that I can edit.  People send me
things in PDF and sometimes I can just copy it off the PDF file and save it
in WOrd, then I can translate it for them. But sometimes the PDF file
doesnt allow me to copy the text.  If it is in image form, I cannot work on
it.  It means printing it, so I can copy type it into Word... and for that
I certainly wouldnt need to buy a program.  Its just double the work and
ends up that the job takes twice as long.!
Sorry  if I am a bit dumb with informatics.  But I simply could not find
any way whatever to  copy the PDF file that was transformed into Word, in a
format that would enable me to edit it.
    Kindest regards,
    Margery

  • Keep getting iTunes.exe system error: program can't start because iAdCore.dll is missing

When I try to open iTunes on my desktop computer (Windows 7), I keep getting an iTunes.exe - System Error.  The message states iTunes was not installed correctly - Error 7 (Windows error 126).  Each time I uninstall and reinstall iTunes, it works again.  But then the next time I use my computer I get the error message all over again and have to uninstall/reinstall to get iTunes running again. Does anybody know why this would keep happening?

It doesn't matter and doing a manual install will not fix the problem either.  I'm looking for a solution but no luck yet.  I think Apple has given us a bad update.

  • ITunes.exe - System error / corrupt file

I purchased an iPod nano about a month ago. Since then about every week my entire iPod content is erased while i transfer music to iTunes. All of a sudden it disconnects and says "iTunes.exe - System error / Corrupt file". Each time this happens I need to restore my iPod, which does not help either. I have the latest iTunes version and I downloaded the iPod updater, however none of them make a difference in the situation. I would really like to know whether this can be solved or I need to return the device to the store.

  • "iTunes Accounts" System Service just used 1.1 GB of cellular data in 14 hours!

Ttitle sums it up. 14 hours ago I activated my new iPhone 6 on T-Mobile, porting my number from AT&T. In this time, even though my phone has been on WiFi for over half of it, the "iTunes Accounts" System Service (Settings>Cellular>System Services) has used 1.1 GB of data. As far as I can tell, after searching extensively, this appears to be a record. Something is broken here, no?
On my 5S (or 5, or 4S, or 4, or 3GS, etc... you get the idea) I averaged less than 1 GB of total cellular data usage per month.
Anyone have any clue what's going on here?

Following up... My carrier confirmed that this usage occurred within a 3 hour window, so it's even worse.
I spoke with a Senior Advisor at Apple. You could literally hear the guy shuffling papers and mashing his keyboard. He had no clue what the iTunes Accounts system service actually is. He guessed at about 5 different things that are iTunes related (like Match - which I haven't used since switching phones), but none of his guesses could explain why 1.1 GB of data would be used in 3 hours. 1.1 GB would be like playing music off of Match for around 19 hours straight (assuming 128 Kb/s).
I had to have been the victim of some sort of server side error on Apple's part. Something that probably only takes a few MBs to resolve, like my Match database (names of artists, albums, etc), probably got pushed a few hundred times. I can't think of any other explanation.
Still open to ideas and hoping this isn't a every day occurrence.

  • After iTunes update, iTunes.exe System Error - msvcr80.dll missing  & icudt49.dll missing.

After iTunes update, iTunes.exe System Error - msvcr80.dll missing. Followed the support suggestion & uninstalled then re-installed iTunes 5 times & still no good so followed Apples advice & uninstalled again then went into programme files & manually deleted the files re-installed again & now getting iTunes.exe System Error - icudt49.dll missing. I give up, anyone out there help ?

I've just (finally) managed to fix this problem today. I checked the Apple Support forums, and it seems a lot of people are having the same problem.
I rang the Apple Support line, and the very helpful man (thanks Alan!) talked me through it stage by stage. If you go to the following page on the internet:http://support.apple.com/kb/TS5376   it takes you through the process. WARNING - it takes a little time! The main purpose of this is to remove any trace of the old version of iTunes from your computer...
Basically, the first thing you have to do is go to your Program Files and double click on your iTunes folder. There'll be a number of files with the suffix .dll - you need to move all the .dll files from that folder to your desktop - you can simply click and drag them on the desktop..
Next, uninstall iTunes - go to Control Panel / Add/Rempve Programs and when the list comes up remove iTunes. This will take a few minutes... Then reboot your computer.
Next, go back to Control Panel / Add Remove and Remove - IN THIS ORDER -
    Apple Software Update
    Apple Mobile Device Support
    Bonjour
    Apple Application Support
    Reboot again!
Next, check in your Program Files that the iTunes folder is completely gone - if it has, great: if it hasn't, right-click on the folder and press Shift and Delete - it will say "Are you sure you want to completely remove the folder "iTunes"? Click on "Yes".
    Reboot!
Then go to the iTunes download page and voila! It should download iTunes without any problems... well it did for me.... Good luck!

  • Maintaining previous filing system format within Aperture 3

I am a new Mac user after 20 years with PC's. I bought a 2.3ghz MacBook Pro 15" with 8gb of ram and a 512 solid state drive to try to better manage a photo collection of about 100gb, including a huge set of ancestors photos from 1800 and on. I have been using a simple filing system by creating separate folders for various trips by date and place, such as 2011-03-15 USA, AZ, Phoenix. Each folder may contain photos from several dates over several weeks. I do not want to break out the photos into separate folders by each day. I want to be able to permanently modify, tag, and delete photos from the master file. I also want to be able to export the modified photos using this "date" structure.
What is the safest and most efficient way to do this while being able to take advantage of all that AP3 has to offer?

What TD, Allen, and Matthew said.
There are (at least) two import dialog boxes in Aperture:
. "File→Import" (also on the Toolbar), and
    . +"File→Import Folders as Projects".+
You want the latter. It will allow you to retain you current filing system (and take advantage of it).
    1. "Folders and Projects" will make an Aperture Folder for every Finder folder in your tree, except the terminal folders (which should be the ones w. images in them) from which it will create Projects. (If you are not familiar with Aperture's parts, [this comment|http://discussions.apple.com/messageview.jspa?messageID=13124533&stqc=t rue] will help, as will consulting the first seven chapters of the [User Manual|http://documentation.apple.com/en/aperture/usermanual>).
    2. "In their current location" will leave your files where there are. Aperture will create a reference (a pointer) to each file. Your images in Aperture will all have Referenced Masters.
    3. "Master File Name" will assign the current file name to the images imported into your Library. You might want to take advantage of Aperture's naming prowess and start with a file naming convention (search this forum) -- but this is secondary to your current goal. If you are satisfied with the current file names, use them for your Aperture images. If you have thought about renaming them, this might be a good time to do so.
    4. My mistake (but this is whacked in Aperture). If you set this to either one of the settings that start with "Both ... ", Aperture should import all image files, regardless of format.
    By all means:
    - Back up all your current images
    - Practice on small subsets of images. Import a few folders, a few hundred images, and see what happens. Tweak your settings as needed. Delete the entire Library, and try again (since you are leaving your files where they are, deleting the Library deletes only the references (the pointers inside the Library) to those files -- it does not delete the files themselves).
    - Practice until you are sure you have it right, then do a trial run on all of your files. +You can always delete this Library as well.+
And ask more questions. Good Luck.

Well, I have used the free NTFS drivers for MacOS and they worked OK. They were a bit slow, but they got the job done. I have also used MedaFour's MacDrive8 on my Windows 7 (x86) systems with levels of success.
I have recently converted to using the Paragon drivers at the recommendation of a user here with much more experience than myself. The MacOS driver for NTFS has worked flawlessly for me, although I did notice one small incident when I re-partitioned and re-formatted a drive, where for some reason it would only allow me to enter a single character for the volume label. Once the format completed, I had no problems renaming the volume, so I'm not sure what's up there. I will have to try to reproduce this to see if it is a problem with the driver, or just a one-time weird error on my system. On the Windows side, I like how the Paragon driver integrates more seamlessly into Windows and just works. MacDrive8 was OK, but it had a few small issues for me, and the Paragon tool doesn't seem to have these same limitations. In any case, be warned that installing any HFS+ Driver on Windows will probably cause our optical disk drive letter to change. There are ways to deal with this, but it can catch you off guard if you aren't expecting it...
