ITunes - first, library locked, now it won't respond

I got a brand new computer on Friday, and one of the first things I did was download iTunes. For the first few days, I kept receiving an error message saying, "my itunes library was locked." Now, when I click on the iTunes icon, nothing happens. An hourglass appears briefly, then disappears. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes with no luck. It has never opened successfully on my brand new, out of the box machine (HP EliteBook, Win XP Pro).
Thanks in advance for your help.

So I tried copying the files from the external hard drive to a USB drive. I could import the video files from the USB drive!
So then I tried importing the same files on to my PC's internal hard drive again. I could import the video files from the internal hard drive!
So then I tried to import the very same files that failed to load on the very same PC previously. I could now import them!
I still can't import from the external hard drive directly, though.
I really don't think I like the process of importing things into iTunes very much... any suggestions on what's causing any of this behaviour would be very interesting.

iTunes 11 previously imported a video file, which I loaded on to my iPod Nano, but I removed the file from the iTunes library and now it won't (re-)import the same video.
I'm using 2 PCs, each with video files (.MP4) on their respective hard drives, and also one external drive with other video files on that I move between the two devices.
iTunes on one PC will (sometimes!) let me add video content from the external hard drive, which is clearly iTunes-compatible, because I can then copy it over to my iPod Nano. On the other PC, I couldn't load that same video from the external hard drive. But if I copied that same video on to the PC's internal hard drive first, then iTunes would let me import it. That was yesterday - now iTunes is refusing to load any files from the internal or external hard drive(s).
    Any thoughts or suggestions, please?

  • My Itunes logon keeps popping up and won't respond to my password

My Itunes logon keeps popping up and won't respond to my password, everytime I try and log in or cancel

So you already wiped the old backup and started again??
If that is the case it did a fresh full backup ok?
How much free space is on the TC now?
Do you happen to have multiple network links? Meaning do you have TC bridged to the U-verse router.. with both ethernet and wireless working at the same time. I discovered this one all by my loansome.. having multiple paths does not seem to worry most things on the computer.. but it totally kills TM.
I had the same sort of thing happening in testing a TC I am fixing. So I have multiple ethernet and wireless. The incremental backups became extremely slow.. by turning off wireless and one ethernet so there is only one route to the TC.. it flys again.

  • Just downloaded Lion and now iMovie won't respond when I try to open it. Even tried deleting the program (since it was an older version) and bought it new from the app store, but still won't respond.

Thanks for this mha007 - I can now open FF with a new profile. Can I copy my settings from the old profile or will this bring over the same problem, maybe a corrupt file. If it would bring the same problem, is there any way I can check which file is corrupt, apart from taking them over one by one?

  • ITunes kept freezing and now it won't start at all

It all started when I downloaded an iTune U class that contained a lot of videos and chose to download all old episodes. It turned out there so many that it would take 25 hours. I tried to abort the downloads, but apparently that messed something up.
First iTunes started up normally, tried to download "83 items" and then started to freeze up after a minute. I had to shut it down via the Task Manager.
Then it got worse, and now it won't start at all. After I click on the icon to open iTunes (I have Windows 8) the screen turns white, the blue wheel spins and nothing happens. When I hold the cursor over the iTunes icon in the task bar I can see two preview tiles (one for Download and one for iTunes itself), but both are blank (all white) and nothing happens - the blue wheel will spin forever. What do I do?
I do have the latest version of iTunes. If I uninstall and reinstall iTunes, will that solve the problem? And will the content of my library still be there?  Thanks!

    Hello, J Appleseed.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
You can try an uninstall and reinstall of iTunes to see if that resolves the issue.  Your iTunes library will not be deleted by doing this.  However, this issue could be a result of multiple issues so an uninstall/reinstall may not resolve this.  Below, I have included the best articles that will help you isolate and possibly correct this issue.  Process each step and test the results after each step processed.

  • Updated iTunes to 9.2, now application won't launch - Error #13005

Help! I just updated my itunes to 9.2 and now it won't launch. An error window comes up and tells me it's due to an unknown error # 13005? I tried re-installing it to fix it but it still won't. Please help. I'm on the white 13' Macbook, running OS X 10.6.4. I have my itunes library in my external HD. Dying to get this fixed any help would be appreciated.

    try these user tips:
try removing the Genius database. In the "Finder" go to the /username/Music/iTunes/ folder and delete the "iTunes Library Genius.itdb" file. This may allow the program to launch again. This file will be recreated upon first use of the "Genius" feature.
and, if you have flip4mac installed
I found that the TSLicense plugin was causing the problem.
    From the log:
    PlugIn Path: /Library/Frameworks/TSLicense.framework/Versions/A/TSLicense
    PlugIn Identifier: net.telestream.license
This pIugin is installed with the Flip4Mac Windows Media Components. I solved the problem by uninstalling the WM Components via the uninstaller at /Applications/Flip4Mac/Flip4Mac WMV Uninstaller.pkg, after which iTunes opens successfully.

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync/delete all music and resync
To delete all music go to Settings>General>Usage>Storage>Music>Tap edit in upper right and then tap the minus sign by All Music
    - Restore from backup. See:

  • I updated to itunes 10.6 but now it won't open as it says it stops working because of the Data Execution Prevention

I recently updated toitunes 10.6 but now it won't open as it says it stops working because of the Data Execution Prevention and i've followed the windows help and everything but still can't get it to work. i usually never have a problem when i update.

I had the same issue after my recent update of iTunes.  I didn't update Quicktime 'cuz I don't use it much (or at all).  On another thread discussing the same issue, I saw that the Quicktime installation can affect iTunes.  So I downloaded the latest Quicktime, installed, redooted - issue fixed (for now).

  • I accidentally added a folder to iTunes music library and now all of my songs are in there twice. How do I delete the folder/music i just imported?

I added a folder accidentally to my iTunes library and now all of the songs are in there twice. I tried to stop the import but it transferred too quickly. How do I delete all those songs without having to click on each one to delete?

Apple's official advice on duplicates is here... HT2905: How to find and remove duplicate items in your iTunes library. It is a manual process and the article fails to explain some of the potential pitfalls such as lost ratings and playlist membership.
Use Shift > View > Show Exact Duplicate Items to display duplicates as this is normally a more useful selection. You need to manually select all but one of each group to remove. Sorting the list by Date Added may make it easier to select the appropriate tracks, however this works best when performed immediately after the dupes have been created.  If you have multiple entries in iTunes connected to the same file on the hard drive then don't send to the recycle bin.
Use my DeDuper script if you're not sure, don't want to do it by hand, or want to preserve ratings, play counts and playlist membership. See this thread for background, this post for detailed instructions, and please take note of the warning
to backup your library before deduping.
(If you don't see the menu bar press ALT to show it temporarily or CTRL+B to keep it displayed.)
The most recent version of the script can tidy dead links as long as there is at least one live duplicate to merge stats and playlist membership to and should cope sensibly when the same file has been added via multiple paths.

  • Rebuilding library and now iphoto won't open

We recently upgraded to Lion and now iphoto won't work. I'm trying to rebuild my library but I can't even get iphoto to open now. Has anyone else had issues using iphoto after upgrading to Lion?

Try this:  launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and try to create a new, test library.  If you can't then give this a try:  make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup copy) of the library and try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home()/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
         User/Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto.  You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
NOTE 2:  In Lion and Mountain Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.

  • Had to download Library Manager - now why won't it launch?

I am experiencing the same problem as several threads regarding the exclamation point:
    ie., https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4162994?start=0
I am not getting the "!" on all photos - just some.
I went ahead and tried all the suggested fixes to no avail and now have downloaded Library manager. I got a message upon download to drag it to applications folder and now it won't launch.
    User error, or no?

The re-drag solved my primary launch question (thank you!), but I have a long error report of photos that didn't make the trip since they can't be found in the Originals folder.  ie:
Missing photo: no file found at /Users/[nameofmycomputer]/Pictures/iPhoto Library/Originals/2012/2012-02-10-03-10/P3030064.JPG
How do I keep things from leaving the Originals ever again?  (I am not 100% freaking out since I have photos backed up and all images (or so I think) saved to a folder...but still....)  I'd like to avoid this hassle in the future.
I really appreciate the help, Terence.

  • Messed with System/Library files now computer won't start

Ok, I wanted to go about fixing a Photoshop issue I had with 10.4.6. So I replace the following files with the files from 10.4.5...
    /System/Library/Filesystems/AppleShare
    /System/Library/Frameworks/AppleShareClientCore.framework
    /System/Library/Frameworks/AppleshareClient.framework
My network drive went all haywire and I tried to replace the files with the original 10.4.6 files. After that did not solve the problem, I downloaded and used Pacifist to retreive the files from Mac OS X 10.4.6 for PPC downloaded from Apple. After replacing the /System/Library/ from this file, my computer went completely haywire and would not shutdown, start any aps or do anything. Now it won't work at all.
Am I completely screwed? I don't want to have to wipe everything (I have Quark on there that I no longer have a disk for) but I think I may have to.
Please if you have any suggestions for this stupid idiot, who should not have messed with their computer, they would be so welcomed!
    Thanks!

  • Can anyone explain to me why sometimes my ipad2 locks up and won't respond to any input from the keyboard.

My iPad 2 locks up sometimes and won't respond to any input from the keyboard. Have to reboot in order to fix the problem.

    You have 3 choices:
    1. Do a reset (Hold Sleep/Wake and Home buttons about 10 secs or more till Apple logo appears, ignore the Slide to Power Off that appears)
Note: You will not lose any data.
    2. Restore from backup using iTunes
    3. Restore as new without the backup
