ITunes Folder Option

Is there a way to have iTunes import your CDs so the folder is only one deep? Example:
Anberlin-New Surrender>Songs <---songs are under that folder not Anberlin>New Surrender>Songs
My car has the Shaker system from Ford and only recognizes 1 folder with the tracks in it for each album, I can have 100 albums for example but each of those folders must have songs in it and not another folder or else the CD player cannot find the files.
Any help would be appreciated, I thought maybe there could be a %Artist%Album string but honestly don't know much else. I searched here on the forum but couldn't find an answer. Thank you for your time and efforts!

Is there a way to have iTunes import your CDs so the folder is only one deep?
No, but what does this have to do with your system on your car?
If you burn an MP3 CD, sort the playlist by Album and songs will be put into Album folders only one level deep.

  • I have multiple libraries on an external drive. Somehow all the iTunes library files i.e. iTunes Library.itl, xml, itdb, Media folder, etc disappeared! Only the music files remain. Now when I start iTunes w/option it can't find any of the old libraries!

Help! I 'm using an old G4 powerbook, Mac OSX 10.5.8, iTunes ver 10. I have multiple iTunes libraries on an external drive. Everything was fine for a while, then all of the iTunes library files, i.e. iTunes Library.itl, xml, itdb, artwork folder, Media folder, etc mysteriously disappeared! Only the music files remain (thank god) So now when I start iTunes w/option key to choose a library, I can't choose any of them because iTunes won't recognize them. Because all the library stuff is missing. So can I re-create the library files? (I don't care if I lose my ratings)
Or should I create a new empty library on the external drive, then manually move all the music files to the Media folder in the new library?
I tried some stupid ideas like creating a new library just to start iTunes, then going into prefs and advanced, then under iTunes Media folder location, selecting the location of the old library on the external, to see if iTunes would then find all the music which is still there, but no workee.
I'm out of ideas, and I searched the archives.
    Help! anyone?
    Scott

I don't know if this is me adding files to iTunes when the external wasn't connected
    it is.
is it OK to just keep deleting that library on the Air?
    i wouldn't - at least not until i
    mount the external
point iTunes media folder location back to the external via preferences > advanced
consolidate my library via file > library > organize library
The ntfs hasn't seem to be causing any problems, but I've always wanted to know.
in order for your Mac to write to NTFS drives, it needs some help by installing e.g. the NTFS 3G driver. apparently that or something similar is installed on your Mac already. preferably, it would be formatted for Mac but then windows machines would need to have e.g. MacDrive installed to recognize the drive.

    A Espinoza,
The iTunes Media folder is set in Preferences > Advanced, and is the key to most iTunes folder organizational activities.  So I doubt that the automatic deletion will work for files that are somewhere else within the folder structure.
However, I have not experimented with that issue in quite a while, so you are welcome to give it a try in iTunes 11.

  • How do i get itunes 11 import folder option to work?

i recently installed itunes 11. i have my music files located in a a separate directory. when i try to "import folder", i select an album folder and nothing happens. am i doing something wrong or is there a fix for this? thanks in advance:)

A little more detail may help...
I assume you've enabled the iTunes menu bar and you're using the command File > Add Folder to Library... then selecting a folder that contains media. Further that this media is not already included in the library?
Did you apply the permissions fix to both your iTunes library folder and the media folder on the external drive that you are trying to import?
Can you add anything to iTunes? E.g. copy a file to the desktop and then drag & drop that on to iTunes. Or use the Automatically Add to iTunes folder.
What settings do you have under Edit > Preferences > Advanced for the media folder, and the Keep... & Copy... options?

  • ITunes crashes whenever "Add folder" option is used.REALLY IRRITATING.Help?

Whenever I go to the "Add Folder" option in iTunes, it crashes out and has to be ended. Also, some songs don't even show up in iTunes and it's really obnoxious. My entire collection is mp3 format, and winamp (which I actually use as a player) sees them all just fine. iTunes is missing about 10 songs though out of my total. And as I try to fix it and add a folder, it crashes out.
Also, when adding all my music at once (say if I was reloading my entire Library to my iPod for whatever reason) it only recognizes about... 3/4 of the songs in My Music folder (I have subfolders and things).
I didn't have the crashing issue with iTunes 6.
Also again, sometimes my iPod doesn't realize it's not being charged anymore, and it the battery symbol stays on the screen, draining my battery when I'm not using it. Super. Incredbily. Annoying.
Any suggestions would help loads >.<
    Thank you.

after I got offline yesterday, I tried drag-drop again, it worked.

  • Will enabling the 'Keep iTunes Folder Organized' option alter my folders?

If I select "Keep iTunes Folder Organized" in iTunes, will it alter the way my folders are curretnly organied on that drive? I already have my music organized by artist and album in folders on my harddrive. Though, some of the track names are messed up in iTunes. If i select this option, what happens? will it fix the track names issue, or must i fix those manually? would it copy or reogranize my folders that are already there?

It shouldn't alter your folders unless they are in the place that iTunes wants to put its folders - It will rearrange the music into new folders so that iTunes can find them. They will be located in your Music folder > iTunes > iTunes Music > then usually folders by Artist.
For the ones that are not named correctly - when you edit the ID3 tracks in iTunes they will be moved to the correct place.
I think you should be able to verify this by using the iTunes > File > Add to Library... option on a small sample of your music that is currently arranged manually.

  • I am no longer able to sync multiple photo albums/folders on my iphone. I use to be able to sync many folders and now itunes only gives the option of 1 folder. How do I get back to the multiple folder option?

first time to the discussion forum. Like I stated in the title, I use to be able to have all my photo albums sync to my iphone. I did something and now it only allows me to "sync photos from..." and it only allows me to chose from 1 of my folders and not pick multiple folders from my photo library. does anyone know how to get back to the multiple folder option? I'm sure its simple since I changed this so easily when trying to add a single folder to my library.

Firefox now always stores the old session, and you can access it by going to the History menu and selecting "Restore Previous Session"
If you want Firefox to display the message to save the session, it can be turned back on by changing some preferences.
    # Type '''about:config''' into the location bar and press enter
    # Accept the warning message that appears, you will be taken to a list of preferences
    # Locate the preference '''browser.tabs.warnOnClose''', if its value is set to '''false''', double-click on it to change its value to '''true'''
    # Repeat this for these 3 preferences '''browser.warnOnQuit''', '''browser.warnOnRestart''' and '''browser.showQuitWarning'''
If you always open the last set of tabs, an alternative approach is this:
    # Click the orange Firefox button, then select options to open the options window
    # Go to the General panel
    # Change the setting "When Firefox starts" to "Show my windows and tabs from last time"

  • Itunes folder refresh option

Hi everyone, I have recently tried to organize my families music to one folder on our families media server. Sounds good in principal but when I did it and recreated my itunes library I realized I had a lot of duplicates (which I am slowly getting a handle on) and some things that hadn't made it into the new folder area. As I have moved files in I was hoping that as I had added that folder to my library that my library would automatically update with these new songs. No such luck. Is there a setting that I can turn on that monitors a folder for updates once it has been added to itunes? - to update deleted or added files?

    *Adding new items/removing orphans*
Try iTunes Folder Watch or iTunes Library Updater. Folder Watch is much faster on the adding files front, can be set to run in the background and includes a useful exclusion feature, however it’s really slow at removing orphans. iTLU is better for this although doing it manually after looking at a list of proposed removals generated by Folder Watch is probably faster still. iTLU can also be set to update iTunes when you've used 3rd party tools to change tag info.

  • ITunes folder will not delete. When I moved my iTunes folder from my old computer to new, I placed the iTunes folder temporarily in my Dropbox folder so I could cut and paste it into the new computer's music folder. Now I can't delete that folder.

iTunes will not update my podcasts. When I click refresh, I get the circling arrows but after an hour it hasn't updated the available podcasts on those I'm subscribed to. I don't know if this is related to the issue I'm having with iTunes store and Besecure, guessing it may be. All the workarounds I've seen on these communities for fixing the Bsecure and iTunes issue are far too complicated for me, a computer simpleton. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Yes, provided all the media is inside the iTunes Media folder, which is in turn inside the main iTunes folder (which is the standard arrangement) you should be able to move the iTunes folder from <User's Music> to any other path and shift-start-Tunes (option-start-iTunes on a Mac) to reconnect to it.
If the media folder has split out to another drive in the past, or media is stored outside of the iTunes Media folder, then things get a bit more complicated. I can go into details should it be necessary.

  • I have an issue with Add to iTunes folder incorporating mp3s in iTunes Media folder, but not into my iTunes library.

I am using iTunes 10.5 on Windows 7 (64bit).  This has only started happening since the 10.5 update.  When I add mp3s to "Add to iTunes" folder, the mp3s will be added to a folder within the iTunes Media\Music\ directory, but the song will not show up in my iTunes library.  If I open the mp3 from its location in the directory, it will open in iTunes and be included in the Library go forward.   This issue is not consistent, it has happened the first time I tried to add an mp3, and not the second that I tried to add the exact same file.  Oh also, I have always had the option selected to allow iTunes to keep the media folder organized.
For the time being I have to keep a list of everything I am adding and verify whether it shows up in the library.  If it doesn't I have to run a search to see what exact directory path iTunes put it in, go there and open the file - frustrating and time consuming.  Even more frustrating to me however is that I really don;t know if I have recovered all the added mp3s from before I recognized the problem.
Any ideas?  I was wondering if there maybe was a way to have iTunes refresh its library from the folder?

Back up all data immediately as your boot drive may be failing.
If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator. I've tested them only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, they may not work as described.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    syslog -k Sender kernel -k Message CReq 'Channel t|GPU D|I/O|n Cause: -' | tail | open -ef
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C).
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V).
The command may take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear.
A TextEdit window will open with the output of the command. Normally the command will produce no output, and the window will be empty. If the TextEdit window (not the Terminal window) has anything in it, post it — the text, please, not a screenshot. The title of the TextEdit window doesn't matter, and you don't need to post that.

  • How do I create a new iTunes folder?

After moving backwards and forwards between Mac and PC, different format hard drvies and versions of iTunes (I recently "downgraded" back to iTunes 10.7) my music folder is in complete chaos. There are duplicate files, folders all over the place and deleting music from iTunes doesn't remove their folders. I'm wanting to have a huge clear out and basically rebuild my library and the folder itself from scratch, but I'm having trouble doing so.
Currently my iTunes folder is on a FAT32 partition on an external hard drive and what I would like to do is create a new, "empty" iTunes folder on the NTFS partition, then pick and choose which mp3s to copy across, leaving behind all the stuff I don't want to be deleted once I'm done. I tried doing this by making a new library, but all the actual mp3s are still being kept in the same place. Basically I want iTunes to ignore the folder that already exists long enough for me to copy the stuff I want to a new one. The best way I can describe it is that if you were to install iTunes on a new PC, it would create a folder without any actual music in it, then you could drag and drop mp3s from your old folder into iTunes itself, filling the folder up.
I hope this makes sense to somebody who can help me out, thanks!

assuming iTunes is authorized for your iTunes store account(s):
connect your iDevices (one after the other) and right-click or control-click them in the iTunes Source list, then choose transfer purchases from the shortcut menu that appears.
above will cover your purchases. for everything else, check out this post by Zevoneer.
also, there are PhoneView and iRip.
when done, go iTunes > preferences > advanced and point iTunes media folder location to the new external. on the same tab, ensure the copy files ... when adding option is checkmarked.
next, go file > library > organize library > consolidate files.
Back up your iTunes library by copying to an external hard drive

  • How can I copy mp3 files which are already located by itunes to the actual itunes folder?

    Dear all,
I would like to transfer my whole itunes library to a new computer. I know that this can be done by copying the whole itunes folder on the old computer (if you want to keep all the data of the itunes files). However, I have a little problem. Since I had a long period in which I did not download music from itunes or I got music from others, most files are not in the itunes library folder. I kept them in many different folders all over my hard disk, because it is a quite big collection from the past decade orso. In that time, I just dragged the files to itunes, so itunes can now locate them. They are not in the actual itunes library folder though. Is there a possible way to let itunes locate the files (it already has the locations) and put/copy them in the itunes library folder?
    Thanks in advance!!

With these options selected in Edit > Preferences > Advanced:
select File > Library > Organize Library...  When you get this prompt:
check the Consolidate files box and - if not greyed out - the Reorganize files ... box, and click OK.  iTunes will then copy any media files that are not stored in the iTunes Media folder structure into it, so that you can then copy the complete iTunes folder to your new computer.

Yes, you copy each one's iTunes folder to the /Home/Music/ folder in each of their separate user accounts. You will first need to create a separate user account for each of them using the Users & Groups preferences.
