ITunes for Leopard & Intel

I post this question periodically just to see what kind of answers I get :
Am still using a 2004 G5 to run my music library. Am hoping to get an Intel Desktop sometime in 2008.
my question: for those of you running iTunes on a Leopard-Intel machine, is anyone out there working with a really large library?
I have friends who have used iTunes on intel processors going to 250 GB, but am curious if anyone is running iT with what I would consider a big library, meaning upwards of 500 GB - maybe even a TB?
If so, what's your experience like? Is it running fast and efficient? Do things take a long time. Am certain it has to be a lot faster than trying to run a mega-library on my older system. Am curious to hear what you think.
Happy New Year - here's to a new Intel-Leopard Mac Desktop in 08!

Currently USB though I've used Firewire in the past. I don't really think that bus speed is highly critical in this instance. I haven't noticed any lag when trying to do anything. The one thing I dislike about using a USB is that everything else in the world wants a USB port and I only have two. The Firewire port just sits there unused while I try to figure out how to plug in my hard drive, my iPod, my USB cellular modem and my GPS device. I prefer hard drives with extra ports but this one doesn't have any.

    I don't understand your question.
You can update itunes to the most recent available version for leopard without updating to Lion.

  • HT1338 i have a mac os x 10.5.8 what do i have to do to get itunes for iphone 5

what steps must i take to get the new itunes for my iphone 5?
I have an imac os x version 10.5.8.

Upgrade your system to at least OSX 10.6.8 so you can download the newest iTunes 10.7.  You have to buy 10.6.8 from Apple by phone:
Kappy 08/2012 post on upgrading to Snow Leopard, then Lion or Mountain Lion -  https://discussions.apple.com/message/19401628 - including how to get Snow Leopard and Lion since Apple removed them from the online store.
The above is assuming you are using an Intel Mac and can even upgrade to 10.6.8  You don't provide any information about your computer.  Get more information about your computer. Go to the Apple in the upper left corner of any window, then  "About This Mac".  Write down what it says about "version"and report that here.  Now continue to "More Info..."  Copy and paste the information here, but omit the serial number and Hardware UUID (if present).

    I think you meant 10.6.8, not 10.8.6
It requires an upgrade, instead of a free update.
    Snow Leopard/10.6.x Requirements...
    General requirements
       * Mac computer with an Intel processor
        * 1GB of memory (I say 4GB at least, more if you can afford it)
        * 5GB of available disk space (I say 30GB at least)
        * DVD drive for installation
        * Some features require a compatible Internet service provider; fees may apply.

    Last iTunes for tiger OS

You appear to be using a Macbook.  An option is to upgrade operating system to 10.6.8 or higher which will allow you to use a much newer iTunes.  If you have a new i-device such as an iPod you have no choice if you want to sync.
Get more information about your computer. Go to the Apple in the upper left corner of any window, then  "About This Mac".  Write down what it says about "version"and report that here.  Now continue to "More Info..."  Copy and paste the information here, but omit the serial number and Hardware UUID (if present).
If you have a PPC Mac you cannot sync your idevice without a newer computer.
If it says you have an Intel Mac you can upgrade to Snow Leopard, but check system requirements first:
    Snow Leopard 10.6 Technical Requirements - http://support.apple.com/kb/SP575
You can buy Snow Leopard at:
Snow Leopard disc source - http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
After installing run the updater to 10.6.8, then upgrade iTunes.

  • I now have itunes for windows 8 on my laptop and I cannot transfer a new song from my library to a playlist on my iPad mini using IOS 8.1.3

I upgraded to iTunes for windows on my Windows 8.1 64 bit laptop.  I have not done any iTunes manipulations for many months.  I just purchased a new song.  I now have IOS 8.1.3 on my iPad Mini and I tried to move the new song from my library from my purchased file to a playlist.  I can no longer click and drag the song from anything to the playlist.  In addition, when I sync my iPad to my laptop none of my music from the iPad shows up in iTunes on the computer.  Why does Apple continuously mess around with the simple actions of the program.  It is very disheartening to be treated like this as a long time customer.  This has happened so many times that I am getting the feeling that they seem to enjoy screwing up the users ability to use the program

Get more information about your computer. Go to the Apple in the upper left corner of any window, then  "About This Mac".  Write down what it says about "version"and report that here.  Now continue to "More Info..."  Copy and paste the information here, but omit the serial number and Hardware UUID (if present).
    Check system requirements:
    Snow Leopard 10.6 Technical Requirements - http://support.apple.com/kb/SP575
The main issue might be having too little RAM.  Most computers run newer systems more smoothly with more RAM than Apple says is a "minimum" for running that system version
After installing 10.6.3 run the updater to 10.6.8, then upgrade iTunes.

The new system should install on top of the old one.  That said, things have been known to go wrong and it makes sense to do a backup before installing the new system.  In fact you seem to care about your files and things so you need to always have a backup because one day you will wake up and you hard drive will be dead and everrything on it gone.  Buy an external hard drive and start using Time Machine or something to back up. The other risk is when you install the new iTunes.  It doesn't happen frequently given the millions of users but there are daily posts here from people who for some reason the installation wiped out their whole library.  If you have a backup then there's nothing to worry about.
This is well within what many people can do at home.  It's a matter of inserting an optical disc and clicking you way through menus.

This should get your itunes store connection working.
    Close your iTunes,
    Go to command Prompt -
(Win 7/Vista) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES, right mouse click "Command Prompt", choose "Run as Administrator".
    (Win XP SP2 & above) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES/Command Prompt
In the "Command Prompt" screen, type in
    netsh winsock reset
    Hit "ENTER" key
    Restart your computer.
If you do get a prompt after restart windows to remap LSP, just click NO.
Now launch your iTunes and see if it is working now.
If you are still having these type of problems after trying the winsock reset, refer to this article to identify which software in your system is inserting LSP:

I am attempting to fix an issue with a friend's iTunes for Windows. Although previously this computer using this media was able to burn audio CDs through iTunes, recently, an error has appeared before any burn. When loading the proper amount of time to fit on a CD, iTunes claims:

  • ITunes for Windows 7.0.1.8 bug report

Do Apple employees actually read these forums? Is there some other (e.g. better) way for me to submit substantive iTunes bug reports to them?
I've noticed a bug in iTunes for Windows, spanning both versions 6 and 7. I'm currently using 7.0.1.8 and the bug still manifests there. My iPod is a 60GB photo model, firmware version 1.2.1 (which is the latest available). This bug is reproducible on multiple PCs (by ripping the same CDs to two different iTunes installations on two different PCs), so it is definitely not a misconfiguration
issue or a fouled up OS install or faulty PC hardware.
If a song's artist field contains an ampersand character, then when the song is uploaded to the iPod, that artist entry does not appear at all in the "Artists" menu on the iPod itself. I have this problem with songs by "Korn & The Dust Brothers" and by "Larry Graham & Graham Central Station". Due to this bug, it's not possible to locate these songs by artist using the iPod's UI, even though the songs are indeed present on the iPod and can be accessed by album title.
This bug is extremely obnoxious and needs to be fixed ASAP. Thanks.

Chalk this one up to "bad feature design".
Apparently the songs I was having trouble with just happened to be flagged (in "Get Info") as belonging to a compilation, and my iPod was set to "Compilations: On".
I've never used the Compilations feature and I didn't understand how it worked. Apparently, any song that belongs to a compilation won't show up under the "Artists" view but will instead show up only under the "Compilations" view on the iPod (if "Compilations: On" is set in the iPod's UI).
The Compilations feature isn't designed or explained very clearly anywhere, so I'm sure I'm not the only person who has been confused by its behavior. Especially since I never manually turned the feature on or manually set any songs I ripped as belonging to any compilations. I hope Apple will do something in future iTunes releases to alleviate that confusion.

  • How do I get latest Itunes for Mac OS 10.4.11?

How do I get the latest version of itunes for an imac with an os 10.4.11?

You can get if from the link Klaus1 provided but note that iTunes 9.2.1 is several releases behind the current version and no longer provides access to the iTunes Store.  For that you will need to upgrade your operating system to Leopard at least (if your computer will run it).  Even then it is not clear if you can get access to the newest cloud features:
http://www.apple.com/icloud/what-is.html - Fine print at bottom: "iCloud requires iOS 5 on iPhone 3GS or later, iPod touch (3rd and 4th generation), iPad, or iPad 2; a Mac computer with OS X Lion"

    HI,
Try deleting the iTunes app. Follow the instructions here.
Removing iTunes for Mac OS X
Perhaps the Migration Assistant copied over files that caused this.
At the bottom of that page is a link to download a new copy of iTunes. Then repair permissions. (Yes, again).

  • How to install itune for windows 7

I have a problem install itune for windows 7. Please help.....
After installing itume 10.2.2 64-bit, It prompt me "Apple Application Support" is require to download itune.
    Info:
    Model: Sony vaio
    Windows 7 Home Premium
    Rating: 3.2
    Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i3 CPU [email protected]
    Memory: 2.00GB
    System: 64-bit Operating System

It prompt me "Apple Application Support" is require to download itune.
Let's try a standalone Apple Application Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of the issue.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR:
    http://www.rarlab.com/
Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").
Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleApplicationSupport.msi to do a standalone AAS install.
Does it install properly for you? If so, does iTunes launch properly now?
If instead you get an error message during the install, let us know what it says. (Precise text, please.)

I currently am using an airport express for my home network and want to use it on my home stereo(upstairs) so we can play music from itunes. So I need to buy another airport for downstairs. Will I get any benefit from the extreme or should I just get another express?

idadof3, Welcome to the discussion area!
I think iFelix provided a very good answer in your other thread "Is it worthwhile to buy the airport extreme for non intel".
