  • Does Apple have a Data Execution Prevention (DEP) compatible version of iTunes for Vista?

I have followed instructions found on the Apple Support boards for the past 3 days regarding  the fact that DEP will not allow the iTunes updates to operate on Windows Vista.  I wish I had a dollar for every time I have uninstalled adn reinstalled iTunes, only to get the same results.  It instally correctly, but will not open.  It gets shut down by DEP every time.  YOU CAN'T TURN OFF DEP FOR iTUNES IN VISTA!!!  I don't care what the instructions from Apple and Microsoft say, it can't be done.
So, does anybody know if Apple has a version of the iTunes that is compatible with DEP?  Or, are that hopefully at least working on one?  My iPhone and iPod are useless.

Have you downloaded and installed Windows Vista Service Pack 1 yet?
This may assist you with that you are running into. If you have already done this let me know. Could still potentially be something going on with the Apple Software.
If this is the case the link below describes how to fully clean out Apple Software. Possible file that belongs to Apple may of become corrupted and thus causing iTunes not to launch Properly.
But before you check the article out. Have you right clicked on the iTunes Application and chose Run as Administrator?
You can also right click on the iTunes App, Select Properties, and select Compatibility Mode - And make sure that is not turned on and set for something else. As this could potentially be running in a different mode.

  • ITunes for Vista

Is there any iTunes out there that is able to run properly on Vista? I can't install any of the updates for iTunes or my iPod. There doesnt seem to be anything on the site that supports or even talks about supporting windows vista
Its great having Longhorn and all, but if i cant use my iPod then f**k.

    Mind the language, please.
If Apple releases a version for vista, I'm sure it will be all over their website. Since vista isn't released yet, it doesn't seem to be a good business decision by Apple to put any programmers hot on the vista trail.

  • Latest version of iTunes for Windows crashing

I've updated to latest version of iTunes for Windows today, and have up to date Windows 7. iTunes is closing down after about a minute, Windows just says iTunes has a problem. Never had a problem before. Is this a known error?

See iTunes for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8: Fix unexpected quits or launch issues.
For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, need to revert to an older version or want to try the iTunes for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) release as a workaround for installation or performance issues, or compatibility with QuickTime or third party software.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there are also links to backup and recovery advice should it be needed.

  • ITunes on Vista - crashing when I try to play purchased music

Crashes when I try to play purchased music that I've copied from another machine.
It has been authorized for two accounts, obviously ones that own the music, and playing songs brought from either account simply cause iTunes to crash, and it comes up with "iTunes has stopped working..."
Brand new vista install, and brand new iTunes install.
    Any ideas?

I had the same problem. Trouble is Vista is a new operating system that went to market filled with problems, the main one being nothing was ready to be compatable with it. Apple support recommened upgrading iTunes to the latest version sine Vista will not recognise older versions. I upgrade every time one is offered. It stopped my Dell from crashing everytime I tried to use the iPod. Try it, it may work.

  • ITunes for Vista: Please Read!

Hello there! Recently I got my very first iPod, and I've spent the past week or so trying to get iTunes to run on my system. Here is it's specs:
    Windows Vista Home Premium
    Service Pack 1
    Model: a6060a
    Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU
    Memory (RAM): 3.00 GB
    System Type: 32-bit Operating System.
If any other information is required, please ask.
So after discovering iTunes, I downloaded it straight from the Apple site. It also came with Quicktime. I double-clicked on the .exe file to install it, and all appeared successful. I restarted my computer to find that iTunes would not open. A message appeared saying: "iTunes has stopped working." It then attempts to find a 'solution'. "A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available."
At the bottom of the message is a 'Close Program' button. I pressed this, and from the taskbar another message popped up saying: "iTunes was closed. To help protect your computer, Data Execution Prevention has closed iTunes. Click to learn more."
I uninstalled iTunes, restarted my computer, then reinstalled it from the same .exe that I downloaded from Apple. Same outcome. I tried once again, but this time deleting any leftover files or folders from the start menu. I went to Program Files and System32 to see if any items related to iTunes or Quicktime were there. I also deleted the temp files. Same outcome, again.
I opened the Run feature by holding down the Windows button and R on the keyboard. I typed in msconfig and System Configuration opened. I went to the Services and Startup tabs, and disabled all programs there except:
    Apple Mobile Device
    Bonjour Service
    iPod Service
    Quicktime
    iTunes
All of these programs belong to Apple. After restarting my computer, I found that iTunes still wouldn't open. I know that there is also a program called iTunesHelper or something like that. It wasn't in the list at the time I tried this.
I then left iTunes on my computer, but deleted all traces of Quicktime. I also uninstalled a program called the Ace Mega Codecs Pack. Apparently it has been known to upset Quicktime and iTunes a lot. I downloaded the latest standalone version of Quicktime, installed it and then rebooted. Quicktime now runs perfectly after uninstalling the Codec pack, but iTunes still refuses to open. I do not know whether I have any other Codec packs on my system. I don't think so.
I tried disabling my Norton Antivirus/Protection Center entirely. I don't know how to use it, to be honest, but there didn't seem to be a list of blocked programs there. Although Norton was off, iTunes still would not open.
As a last attempt, I tried turning off System Restore. I can't remember where I read this, but for someone it worked. After finding that iTunes still would not open, I gave up.
So now I've tried just about everything I can think of and find on the internet. It's hopeless, and I know that many, many other people have this issue. When I connect my iPod to the computer, it attempts to open iTunes. However the same error appears. Please could somebody help me? I'm stuck.
    Thank you so very much!

  • It seems iTunes for Vista 64 bit isn't itself a 64 bit application

When I am on my 64 bit Vista box and I go to http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/ site and it identified my system as "Vista (64-bit)" and I proceed with the download, and run the installer it provided it installed into c:\program files (x86)\ which is where it installs 32 bit programs. I also verified the file name to be the 64 bit one as identified in this article http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301301.
If it is installing into x86 folder it is not a 64 bit application. It may be a special 32 bit application that works correctly on the 64 bit version of Vista but it is not 64 bit according to Vista. Most of what I have seen seems to be misleading and not be clear on this, it seems to be implying that it is a 64 bit version of iTunes when it is not. This may have been unintentional on Apple's part.

Yeah I am not disputing that it is doing what it is supposed to. I am just disputing that it is misleading. I think it should be very clear and state that this is a 32 bit version of iTunes specific for installing on 64 bit versions of Vista.

  • Previewing video in iTunes for windows Crashes iTunes

When I try to preview a video with iTunes on my Vista machine, I get the error message "iTunes has stopped working". Any idea how to fix this?

Well found out a fix. After checking the report logs found that there was a problem with QuickTimeH264.qtx.
Carrying out a search took me here:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=8990251
Direct link to the fix of deleting the SC Info folder is here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1389?viewlocale=en_US
After deleting the folder, then restarting iTunes, you'll get a set up progress bar which runs through. After that it will launch pulling up your library. You'll then have to re-enter your password to re-access your DRMd content.

  • Install itunes for vista

Finally talked to tech support for 2 hrs this am...they had me uninstall itunes and quicktime...now we can't install itunes at all. Whether we run or save it goes thru the motion but does not install. When we save to desktop it goes the 99%, icon shows for just a second (itunes setup) then disappears!!!! Anyone have this happen? I'm so frustrated...don't know what to do...

What your going to want to do is download windows installer cleanup utility from microsoft http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301
Then go into all programs and click on the clean up utility
Find and remove iTunes, quicktime, apple mobile device support, apple software update
Then create a new user account and run msconfig just follow these steps http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2292
what that is going to do is make sure nothing is blocking the iTunes download like a fire wall.
Go to http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/ and download quicktime, make sure you save it to the desktop. see if it downloads, if it does then you want to go to http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/ and download itunes, save this to the desktop as well.
once it downloads to the desktop right click on it and select properties, check the file size, if it is over 70mb then you have the full file
run it and it should work:)

  • Downloading iTunes for Vista problem....

Hi all. I recently did a Factory Restore on my Gateway PC (about 8 months old). After everything was returned to the original settings, I tried to go ahead and download iTunes from Apple's website. However, everytime I hit save, the download begins and either stops the downloading process right away (at 1%) or it will stop later on (around 9%). I have tried to download iTunes from a different website, I tried to download just Quicktime (which isn't working either)and I've tried installing both together and all have been unsuccessful. Every other program has downloaded fine. Any suggestions on what to do? I really miss iTunes and I need it for my iPhone. HELP!!!

What browser have you been using for the downloads, p? Does it make any difference if you use Firefox instead of IE (or vice versa)?

  • ITunes sync keeps crashing Vista and Win7 - driving me nuts! Please help

I cannot get iTunes to complete a sync of either my iPhone 3GS or my wife's 3G after updating both to firmware v4.0.1. The back ups appear to complete, then the sync goes through app updating OK and seems to crash when loading music in playlists, or when troubleshooting, I deselected syncing music altogether, it crashed during syncing photo albums from folders. When it crashes, the laptop (Vista) just completely shuts off. I clean uninstalled/reinstalled iTunes and had the same problem. I disabled the firewall and anti-virus programs as well with no luck.
Then, I swapped out the hard drive for a new one with a clean installation of Win7, freshly installed iTunes and copied and updated my music library and tried to sync and got the exact same crashing problem with the laptop abruptly shutting off. So after around 8 hours on a Saturday futzing around with this, I have accomplished nothing and am really frustrated.  Can anyone suggest something to get iTunes working properly?
    Thanks...

Will not complete a sync without crashing and saying cannot read to the device or something to that effect.
    That sounds familiar.
Just doublechecking ... have you worked through the suggestions from the following document in the course of your troubleshooting to date?
[What to do when Windows displays a blue screen error message or restarts when syncing the iPhone or iPod touch|http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1502]
(The stuff I was worried about in my initial reply has since been documented in its own troubleshooting document. Some of the symptoms of that are covered in: [iTunes for Windows: System restarts, blue screen, or quits unexpectedly when accessing iTunes Store|http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3441] )

  • Fix for iTunes 11.4 crashing on Synch

I upgraded my iPad Air to iOS 8 and iTunes to 11.4.x.  During the synching of apps, iTunes crashed.  After some research, I found that the issue is related to the iOS 8 with iTunes 11.4.x PLUS:
I back up to a computer not the cloud and the all the files and folders on the computer are redistributed to a network server.
To resolve the synch dysfunction, I uninstalled from my computer iTunes 11.4, Apple Application Support, Software Update, Mobile Device and Bonjour.  I then reboot the computer and installed an older version of iTunes 11.03.0.54 (not so easy to find).  Reboot again.  Connected iPad to computer and iTunes opened and synched without issue.
Previously, I had uninstalled iTunes and the associated applications from my computer and then reinstalled 11.4.x without success.  The bug has to do with the combination of IOS 8, iTunes 11.4.x and the storage of iTunes files on a drive other than a local drive.

    Hello ofsoykan,
Thanks for the question. If I understand correctly, iTunes in Windows crashes unexpectedly. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help you resolve or isolate the issue.

Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.
If you've already tried a complete uninstall and reinstall try opening iTunes in safe mode (hold down CTRL+SHIFT as you start iTunes) then going to Edit > Preferences > Store and turning off Show iTunes in the Cloud purchases. You may find iTunes will now start normally.
