ITunes for Win XP, RAID 5 Array

Hi,
I have iTunes on WinXP, and it is causing issues with my raid array. I have an Adaptec 2820 SATA Raid card running the Radi 5 array. My music and "My Documents\My Music"
folders are on this this array.
EVERY time i open itunes, it works for a few minutes and then locks up my computer. then the raid array starts complaining and everything is frozen. On reboot the raid card claims a disk has been dropped form the array. I then go into the raid management software and it finds the disk and puts it back. It then takes 4 hours to rebuild tha array, which is kindof annoying.
This consistently happens. And i have verified it is just this controller as i installed an older 3Ware card and did not have the issue.
HAs anyone seen this or have any suggestions?
Thanks
Mike
  Windows XP Pro

I am having a similiar problem. I just purchased a new computer with a raid array. I don't have any problems with the smaller ipods, but when the itunes library tries to update for my daugthers 30gb ipod, it freezes up part way thru and crashes one of the drives. I can rebuild but have yet to get the itunes library refreshed.
Desparate for help!!!!

  • Windows Vista + nVidia i680 MB + RAID5 + iTunes 7.3.2 = RAID array trouble

Dunno if any of you can help out with this but I'm at witt's end over this issue.
I have a Windows Vista box running an Abit In9-32MAX motherboard (nVidia i680 chipset), four drives in a RAID 5 array and using iTunes 7.3.2
Drivers for the motherboard are the most recent ones from the nVidia site. BIOS for motherboard is also current.
Practically ANY time I import any audio or video file over 50 MB into iTunes the entire RAID array will degrade. I'm also having issues transcoding video into Quicktime using Videora which seems to be related to this issue. The video simply refuses to play.
For what it's worth the video/audio content is legit. I own the DVD's that I'm transcoding so I can watch them when I travel.
Any thoughts, ideas, suggestions, etc appreciated. I'd love to go a whole week without iTunes/Quicktime forcing me to rebuild the RAID array.

Well, whatever Itunes/quicktime does, it's definitely causing some sort of RAID compatibility. I've had this problem since I got my new rig a month ago. Nvidia 680i SLI board with a RAID 1, and I have it working fine (I've done 3 system restores now) and then I install itunes, and kablooie, there goes the RAID. I can also tell you that even if you disable the mediashield program (NVRAID.exe), it will still happen (this was my last experiment in trying to make it work) and the raid will show up degraded in the BIOS.
Basically, Apple and Nvidia need to exchange a freaking phone call and try and figure out what is causing it to go bad. from reading around, it's not just apple (though they are the biggest culprit). I've seen people mention bittorrent and some other program whose name escapes me at the moment cause this as well (digital imaging program I think).

  • Looking for Thunderbolt 2 RAID Array options that can match the new Mac Pro's quietness -- or at least come close!

Maybe it is too early to talk about anything beyond the Pegasus2 Series (http://www.promise.com/promotion_page/promotion_page.aspx?region=en-global&rsn=1 00) when it comes to Tunderbolt 2 storage options. Looking for something on the order of 8 to 12 usable TB of redundant storage or possibly a JBOD option of 4 bays. This is coming close but I do not think it is Thunderbolt 2 (http://www.g-technology.com/products/g-raid-thunderbolt).
Either way -- looking for users experience not only on usable Thunderbolt 2 solutions but more importantly noisiness. I want to upgrade my existing Mac Pro to one of the new ones and I have found the old one to be nearly unnoticable in a quiet desktop environment. Would love to find the same peace and quiet when migrating to the new form factor that is going to need external storage to match what I have been used to inside the old Mac Pro.

Not your quiet storage, but then I would put it in a cool closet or small room off to the side :-)
http://www.macgurus.com/store/Item/ARC8050 ( I was assuming but maybe not, that it would support RAID6 which is always preferable for larger arrays. Seems to have most features you want for 8 drives). MacGurus "Burly" are never quiet but they are rugged and well tested.
Migrating storage will be a concern. I don't like the noise from my older SATA OWC dual-drive metal enclosure though suppose to be 'acceptable' unless they have improved the fans they are out for me.
    OWC for Thunderbolt products.
Helios enclosure (the new dual-slot Helios PCIe chassis)
… moving various hard drives into Thunderbolt cases
    USB3 hard drive enclosure.
For those without eSATA enclosures, a simple eSATA to USB3 adapter might do the trick.
USB3 is plenty fast to house two hard drives.

  • Download not working for iTune for Win 7

    Dear Friends,
I am quite new to the world of Iphone. I am trying to download a few applications in my Win 7 PC through iTune which is not working as I expect.
    Here the sequence of events:
I start iTune and it prompts me to download and Update / Download Only for iPhone. After I select Download only It starts download of iOS 5.0.1 software (which I don't want to download); so after I canceled it prompts me to download iBook - the application I want to download - But after showing the progress bar (Accessing iTune store ) it says that iPhone sync is complete but it never downloads anything.
I wish to know is it possible to download iBook - or any other application through my PC-iTune and then synchronize it with my iPhone?
    Best Regards
    Sabya

Can anyone pls. help me ? I tried all options from disbling firewall to uninstalling Bonjour.. But nothing works. Had I known that Apple makes such worst software I would never have bought iPhone !!!! Apple really *****!!!!!!!

  • ITunes for Win does not run

I installed iTunes 6 for Windows, running XP Pro on a 5 month old Dell laptop. Things were great until iTunes stopped running. No I don't have NIS, I uninstalled and reinstalled many times with the stand-alone Quick Time, etc. Did manual uninstall of iTunes, etc. When I click on the iTunes icon, the disk light goes on for a few seconds, the license screen for iTunes appears for 1 second and then disappears. If I click on the Quic Time icon, the QT screen appears for 1 second and then disappears. Can anyone help?

HI, I just followed this chain of events that you suggest Rob do, because that also fixed my iTunes problem, but what is this aobut adware/trojans?
    hi Jeffrey!
many people who are getting "the flash" are reporting that they find weird four- and six-letter-name start-up items when they go into MSCONFIG that do not return any hits when people google on the names. that should not be happening.
haven't had an explicit confirmation of this on one of the XP boxes yet, but we've had a report of someone getting this on a Win 2000 box who fixed it by eliminating a version of the Qoologic adware/trojan on their machine (Dave refers to it as "winsync" in these posts, but that's actually the name of one of the files that Qoologic imitates on a PC):
    David Johnson35, "Another installation problem?" #32, 06:25pm Nov 6, 2005 CDT
    David Johnson35, "Another installation problem?" #34, 09:03am Nov 7, 2005 CDT
... so a variety of Qoologic is my prime suspect for the cause of the flash. but i'm not 100% certain of that, since other adware/worms/trojans/whatnot also have this nasty habit of dropping randomly-generated-name files into a PC's startup items. here's a resource with a few of them:
    http://www.softwaretipsandtricks.com/windowsxp/articles/594/1/Random-startup-ent ry-and-filename-viruses
(as i get more and more information about what's causing this, i try to publish it.)
    love, b

  • ITunes for Win XP always gets an error report box when i try to open it

Recently my iTunes has stgopped opening. Everytime I try to run it I get a send error report box ("iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close."). When trying to run quicktime, i get a buffer overrun error. I've tried everything. I've uninstalled the programs (quicktime wouldnt uninstall at first, so i had to delete the quicktime folder and then uninstall and it worked), used CCleaner. I have all the microsoft updates. This never happened before. I've seen this question posted on a few other forums, but could never find an answer.
I have iTunes 7.3.1.3, but I tried to install an old version (7.0.3) and still encountered the same problem. I also tried removing my iTunes library from My Documents, but that did not work either.

  • Annoying rebuffering after installing iTunes for Win v 7.0.1.8

    Hello,
I upgraded today to a new version of iTunes (7.0.1.8) and since then I cannot hear radio as it attempts to do rebuffereing every 15 seconds (and does not succeed!).
    Any idea?
    Many thanks in advance,

    UPDATE/EDIT FROM PREVIOUS POST:
Ok. The new 7.0.18 does repair the volume slider audio issue. HOWEVER, Simply installing the new update (at least for me) did **NOT** fix the problem. After posting my previous post, I tried to remove Quicktime and iTunes completely and try reinstalling.
It turns out that when I uninstalled Quicktime from Add/Remove Programs, it didn't remove all the Quicktime files and it was not reinstalling Quicktime afterwards!!
I only noticed when I downloaded the standalone version of Quicktime and tried running it and it said a "newer version" was on my computer, though it did not show up on my Add/Remove Programs file listing.
So I looked in the usual places and found that I had a Quicktime folder remaining in the Program Files folder and one in the C:\Windows\system32 folder. I also had to manually remove the following files from the C:\Windows\system32 folder:
    Quicktime.qts, QuickTimeMusicalInstruments.qtx, the Quicktime.Resources folder, QuicktimeVR.qtx and the QuickTimeVR.Resources folder.
The main problem is that iTunes didn't let me know there was an issue with the QuickTime installation. It just wouldn't run iTunes. There should have been a notification.
Anyway, after all this, I reinstalled iTunes fresh and checked the volume slider and LO' And Behold! The volume slider issue was repaired.
However, there is a LOT of skipping occurring that never happened before. Not sure what's up with that. CPU usage stays low and then I get a few skips per minute...UNACCEPTABLE!!! That didn't happen before and that issue will still need to be fixed. Until then, back to WinAmp. Thx a LOT Apple...you *#^@ing hosers!

  • How to synch 2 devices in itunes for win?

    Hello,
I have an ipod touch 2G 16GB that I currently synch with itunes.  I recently purchased an iphone 4s 16GB and I'd like to have some apps and files get synched over to the new iphone, but not all of them.
Is there a way to configure this in itunes?  I'm concerned if I just connect the iphone that all files and apps will be copied over.
    Thanks,
    SP

    Plug device into the computer.
Tell iTunes what to sync to it... same as is done with the existing iPod Touch.

  • Cant install itunes for Win 7...Bonjour error

Everytime time I try and install itunes 64-bit Error comes up Service Bonjour Service could not be stopped. Verify that you have sufficient priviledges to stop system services.
    Please help

If you have Quicktime installed, and iTunes thinks you don't I can think of one possibility.
Type cmd into your Windows search box and click on cmd under programs.
A back window will open. Type the following following then hit return.
    path
You will get a lot of text, mine looks like this:
    PATH=C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Windows Live;C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Windows Live;C:\Windows\system32;C:\Windows;C:\Windows\System32\Wbem;C:\Windows\System3 2\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0\;c:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Roxio Shared\10.0\DLLShared\;c:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Roxio Shared\DLLShared\;C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Live\Shared;C:\Program Files (x86)\QuickTime\QTSystem\
    These are a list of folders separated by ;
    The last one is quicktime.
You need to scan through the folders and check that each one actually exists. If a folder in the list doesn't exist, iTunes will never find Quicktime on the end.
If there is a problem I can tell you how to edit the path to fix the problem.
