Itunes for windows won't read or burn to my cd player

I am having a weird problem. I had an HP Lightscribe cd burner installed on my system and when i put a cd into the computer, itunes will read it and show me the name of the cd and all the tracks, but when trying to play, import, or burn to this drive, itunes will go down the list of tracks one after another for about a half second each and wont do anything. I have an external cd burner as well with a lite-on cd burner, and when i plug this in everything works as it should with no problems.
for the past 2 years, i have pulled out my external cd burner everytime i wanted to add new music or burn a cd from itunes, but i no longer have the external drive, and so i purchased a new lite-on cd burner thinking the issue was compatibility with the lightscribe drive. unfortunately now that the new drive is installed, i still have the exact same problem and it is frustrating me to no end. i have submitted help emails to apple, but to no response. i have reprogrammed my computer and reinstalled itunes numerous times. I have the most current version of all drivers and the latest version of itunes. my windows is completely up to date. the drive itself will import fine through media player, and burnes fine through nero. the only information i can get from the cd diagnostics is below, but it contradicts itself by saying i am logged in as administrator, and then later says to burn or import from this drive u must be logged in as administrator and gives error 1450.

Can anyone please help me out with this issue?? it is driving me crazy!! My life would be so much easier if i could burn and rip from itunes instead of having to use media player or nero.

I am experiencing the same issue with a new external DVD burner, a Sony DRX-840U. When I load a CD into this external drive it appears in iTunes but when you go to import or play the CD iTunes indicates playing or importing for each individual track for just a moment. The end result is that nothing is ever imported or played. I am experiencing this on two different systems. One a notebook running Win2K and the other a desktop running XPpro. If I use the internal DVD drives on either of these systems everything work just fine. Yet I am able to use this new external DVD drive with every other application. For example Window Media Player has no problem playing or importing the same CD that iTunes fails on. The last person indicated that if one set the DVD drive in question to be the drive of choice under preferences>advanced>burning that all was ok. I my case this Sony external drive is the drive listed as the drive of choice for burning yet the issue still exists.
As this appears to be an issue that others are also experiencing help from Apple Tech Support would be greatly appreciated.

  • Itunes for windows won't open

clicking on the itunes icon does nothing, nor trying from the program list. I removed itunes & reinstalled it (downloading from apple), tried the repair option, tried downloading to a different drive, but nothing. I'm wondering if this is a problem with the latest windows update, as yahoo messenger doesn't work since then either.
    any suggestions?

The first thing I'd suggest is to get a good
antispyware checker and give it a go at your system.
Some recent spyware has been reported by other users
to shut down iTunes or prevents it from launching.
From user reports, Ewido seems to be the best at
catching it. You can download a free version of Ewido
    here.
I tried ewido and it found a lot of adware, but I'm afraid itunes and yahoo messenger still won't work. thanks for the suggestion, though.

  • My iTunes for windows won't open no matter how many times I re-install it. Please help how to fix this!

And there was once when i tried to re-install again. There was this window said all my purchased apps will be erased and I have to repurchase them in the future. What is going on here?

Linc Davis has indicated how to Force Quit out of any application that is frozen.
For your Mail issue, try the following:
    - Go to Software Update to apply the new update for Mail. Not sure, but there may be bug fixes in the  new version.
    - Go to Disk Utility (In Applications, Utilities) and run a Permissions Repair. Then do a restart of your computer.

  • Unable to Burn CDs in iTunes for Windows: (Will not fit, but it should.)

I am attempting to fix an issue with a friend's iTunes for Windows. Although previously this computer using this media was able to burn audio CDs through iTunes, recently, an error has appeared before any burn. When loading the proper amount of time to fit on a CD, iTunes claims:
"The songs in this playlist will not fit on one Audio CD"
"Do you want to create multiple Audio CDs with this playlist split across them?"
"This will require more than one CD to complete."

Additionally, I copied the iTunes playlist to a new drive that was recently installed with Windows, and the same problem occurs when rebooting under that system.
Also, please note that this issue occured prior to updating to iTunes 7.
Any assistance anyone could offer would be greatly appreciated by both myself and my friend.

  • ITunes for Windows, QuickTime, and Apple Application Support

*The relationship between iTunes for Windows and QuickTime for Windows*
Conceptually, you don't go too far wrong thinking of iTunes for Windows as a gigantic QuickTime for Windows plug-in. QuickTime for Windows provides the audio and video playback capabilities for iTunes for Windows, the codecs iTunes for Windows uses for importing and burning CDs, and so forth.
So, under normal circumstances, if you uninstall your QuickTime for Windows your iTunes for Windows will no longer launch. The exception is if you install a different application such as QuickTime Alternaltive, which also provides QuickTime playback capabilities. However, most such applications (QuickTime Alternative being a good example) are themselves built from actual QuickTime program files. So there's really no getting away from the requirement to have QuickTime for Windows componentry installed on your computer in order to get your iTunes for Windows to launch and run.
In addition to needing some QuickTime for Windows installed on the computer for iTunes for Windows, a given iTunes for Windows version will require *at mininum a particular version* of QuickTime for Windows to be installed on the computer in order for that iTunes for Windows version to run. For example, iTunes for Windows 5.0.0.35 requires at least a release version of QuickTime for Windows 7.0.2 to run correctly, iTunes for Windows 6.0.0.18 requires at least a QuickTime for Windows 7.0.3, and so on. The same applies for solutions involving other programs like QuickTime Alternative. An iTunes for Windows 6.0.0.18 would require an installed version of QuickTime Alternative to made from (at least) QuickTime for Windows 7.0.3 componentry in order for iTunes to run.
The most straightforward way to go about getting your iTunes for Windows launching again after you've uninstalled your QuickTime for Windows is simply to reinstall QuickTime for Windows. You can get the latest version of QuickTime for Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7 from the following download page at the Apple website. (Use the download link that doesn't mention iTunes.)
    [Latest QuickTime for Windows version|http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download>
*The relationship between iTunes and Apple Application Support*
iTunes for Windows uses a number of the same program files as other Apple software for Windows (most notably, QuickTime for Windows and Safari for Windows). Starting with iTunes for Windows version 9.0.0, QuickTime for Windows version 7.6.4, and Safari for Windows 4.0.4, program files common to more than one of the programs have been stored in a single location: "Apple Application Support".
So, if you uninstall your Apple Application Support (using the Add or Remove programs control panel in Windows XP, or using Programs and Features in Windows Vista or Windows 7), your iTunes for Windows 9.0.0 (or higher version) will no longer launch ... because several essential program files for iTunes for Windows 9.0.0 (or higher version) will have been uninstalled.
At the time of writing this user tip, Apple Application Support is not available as a "standalone" download from Apple. It is only available as part of the installer bundles for the most recent versions of iTunes for Windows, Safari for Windows and QuickTime for Windows. So if you have uninstalled your Apple Application Support and your iTunes for Windows 9.0.0 (or higher version) is no longer launching, the most straightforward way of getting your iTunes for Windows launching again is to uninstall your existing version of iTunes for Windows and reinstall the latest version of iTunes for Windows. (The iTunes reinstall should also reinstall your Apple Application Support.)
    [Latest iTunes for Windows version|http://www.apple.com/itunes/download>
If, however, you've uninstalled both your Apple Application Support and your QuickTime for Windows, the most straightforward way of getting them both reinstalled is to download the latest QuickTime for Windows installer from the Apple website. (Use the download link that doesn't mention iTunes.)

Let's try a standalone Apple Application Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of the issue.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR:
    http://www.rarlab.com/
Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").
Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleApplicationSupport.msi to do a standalone AAS install.
Does it install properly for you?
If instead you get an error message during the install, let us know what it says. (Precise text, please.)

  • ITunes for Windows 7.0.1.8 bug report

Do Apple employees actually read these forums? Is there some other (e.g. better) way for me to submit substantive iTunes bug reports to them?
I've noticed a bug in iTunes for Windows, spanning both versions 6 and 7. I'm currently using 7.0.1.8 and the bug still manifests there. My iPod is a 60GB photo model, firmware version 1.2.1 (which is the latest available). This bug is reproducible on multiple PCs (by ripping the same CDs to two different iTunes installations on two different PCs), so it is definitely not a misconfiguration
issue or a fouled up OS install or faulty PC hardware.
If a song's artist field contains an ampersand character, then when the song is uploaded to the iPod, that artist entry does not appear at all in the "Artists" menu on the iPod itself. I have this problem with songs by "Korn & The Dust Brothers" and by "Larry Graham & Graham Central Station". Due to this bug, it's not possible to locate these songs by artist using the iPod's UI, even though the songs are indeed present on the iPod and can be accessed by album title.
This bug is extremely obnoxious and needs to be fixed ASAP. Thanks.

Chalk this one up to "bad feature design".
Apparently the songs I was having trouble with just happened to be flagged (in "Get Info") as belonging to a compilation, and my iPod was set to "Compilations: On".
I've never used the Compilations feature and I didn't understand how it worked. Apparently, any song that belongs to a compilation won't show up under the "Artists" view but will instead show up only under the "Compilations" view on the iPod (if "Compilations: On" is set in the iPod's UI).
The Compilations feature isn't designed or explained very clearly anywhere, so I'm sure I'm not the only person who has been confused by its behavior. Especially since I never manually turned the feature on or manually set any songs I ripped as belonging to any compilations. I hope Apple will do something in future iTunes releases to alleviate that confusion.

  • Text in iPod section of iTunes for windows not totally showing up???

When my iPod/iPhone is connected and I browse different sections of iPod/iPhone are in iTunes for Windows, there are several lines of text instructions. Some of which don't display the entire sentence. This seems very odd since there is plenty of blank screen real estate available.
    For example:
In the Summary Section (with iPod/iPhone connected), I see 2 lines of text under Version and 4 lines of text under Summary. None of the sentences can be seen complete.
In the Music section, under Sync, I see 1st line reading "Include music videos" but on the next line I only see "Include voice m..." and the following line I see "Automatically fill free space with songs". So why did the shorter sentence not display complete?
    Very odd.
    Dell laptop w/ Windows 7 HP 64.

Mine is a brand new machine. Burning software was installed before iTunes was installed. I am looking at this article which points to a possible problem with the GEAR drivers: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2308
It also points to the afs.sys and afs2k.sys drivers as a potential problem. I've verified that I don't have these drivers on my machine.
When I go to the GEAR site, it tells you to manually uninstall the GEAR drivers and install the latest ones. First, manual uninstall which involves editing the registry. Really? While I'm quite the expert at registry editing, NO CONSUMER should ever be told to edit the registry to delete anything. Second, if in fact the GEAR drivers are the problem, shouldn't iTunes install the right ones? This is a prime example of poor software engineering at its core.

  • Itunes browser window won't show on mac

Since yesterday the jukebox browser window in itunes for mac won't open or show. I had version 8.01 installed. The mini browser window does show. I've tried deleting and reinstalling itunes but it still won't show. I've also tried altering preferences. this is in the administrator account, and I can still get itunes to work OK in other accounts. It seems that itunes is working otherwise, but as a result I can't access the itunes store or choose music. I'm concerned that I can't synch my ipod and iphone properly as I can't see what might be happening.

I'm an Apple Authorized Service Provider and just had a customer with the same issue (which is how I found this post). After much troubleshooting including deleting preferences and creating test user accounts, the problem was as simple as can be. The iTunes window was open the whole time, but was dragged all the way to the lower right hand corner of the display and out of sight. Select Window->Minimize and you should see the Browser window move from whereever it's hiding into the dock. Then click on the window in the dock and you'll see it move back to it's hiding spot. Just drag it to the center of the screen and you're done!
